    I've bought 4 Hustler and there was no problem with low discharging. The Hustlers Brand is great. It all depends on the blades you purchase that defines how much grass clippings comes out. I cut yards worse than the one he mowed, my Hustler discharge the clippings 5 to 6 feet.

    My son and I use a 60" Hustler Hyper-Drive and a 72" 2013 Exmark Lazer Z on a 6-acre property every week. With the chute flap up, The Hustler disperses well. With it down it tends to row-clump. I would much rather drive the Hustler over the Exmark though. It's crazy smooth and comfortable. The Exmark hydros are nowhere close to the Hustler hydros. Even with spot on maintenance with both mowers, the Hustler wins. Great review of these machines. Thanks for taking the time to get this together.

    • @mainstreetmower

      Good to know Jonathan. We did have the flaps down on both of these while mowing. Maybe that's why the cut on hustler felt a little less good than the toro.

    I haven't tried the Toro but I do own a Hustler. I have had it for 6 seasons. I mow 5 acres a week with it and it has not once let me down, heck it even still has all the belts that came on the mower. All I've had to do is change the blades, oil & filter, and a battery. I did have to change the voltage regulator at the beginning of this season, but overall the Hustler is built like a Tank!!

    Been watching these lawn cutting videos for about a year now. At first was really impressed by a Hustler. I realize there is different texture of grass but thought the Hustler was pretty good.
    Then this lawn care person, Fill of Fill's Lawn Care had a Toro and that was a game changer for me. Even has a catcher bucket you can put on top.
    I started mowing grass for neighbors when I was 12. First a riding mower at one yard then my dad's gas powered reel mower.
    Years later at an airplane club in northern California I cut their 7 acres on a John Deere riding mower. The grass was just like what you cut at end of the video. Was fun but these two units are great. I really like the Toro.

    I purchased a 4000 beginning of this year and so far we enjoy the machine...cut quality, reliability, low maintenance. I will say this that the Kawi 31 HP is pretty heavy on gas and I'm not a fan of the hydro maintenance-you have to take a tiny vent screw out to bleed the air out when filling pumps. But so far our 4000 has been a very impressive machine for the money.

    That particular Toro model (74015) is actually a 5 yr/1500 hour warranty. Great comparison. As far as the sealed vs. serviceable bearings, I side with sealed bearings all day. When they're sealed you don't see warranty claims getting disputed. And with as long as sealed bearings last it will actually be cheaper to run a sealed bearing till it goes out, then replace with a new one vs the cost of grease and time spent greasing over that time period. Especially since the sealed bearings typically last north of 1,000 hrs. Especially if you have a large fleet of 10 plus mowers, all that time and hassle to keep up with greasing all those zerks every week.

    • @mainstreetmower
      @mainstreetmower  Рік тому +1

      As a service manager that deals with mechanics and mower repairs all day every day, I couldn't agree more. Sealed bearings have saved us and our customers hours of hassle.

    I started my business with Toro mowers 20 years ago, and acquired 3 very used Hustlers since 2020. The Hustlers Maintenance costs have been reasonable, and with the higher speed of the 2023 models, we have decided to continue buying Hustlers.

    I have the same Toro. My favorite part about it is how long it can run on one tank of gas. I have a landscaping company and one of my commercial contracts is through the government in a 5 acre satillite field. Its all native grass and does not grow super fast, but because the government wastes money, they want it mowed weekly, every week, all year round even in winter when the grass is not even growing. The Toro makes quick work of those 5 acres and it can do it all on one tank. It gives me something to do during the winter haha.

    Since I live in the mountains and have very hilly terrain, neither of these would work for me. For hilly terrain, a zero turn with an actual steering wheel is phenomenal. I have the Cub Cadet RZT-S which is not a commercial mower but it's for my property and I absolutely love it. I can mow any terrain with it and believe me I have some very steep hills. It does much, much better than a traditional lawn tractor. Obviously for mostly flat areas, these mowers in this video are the way to go.

    • @mainstreetmower
      @mainstreetmower  11 місяців тому

      Totally agreed. Zero turns - great on flat areas. Steep hills, probably not. The hills tested in this video are an absolute no-no to be even touched by these units.

    Went from Troro Super Z to
    Hustler X -One…
    Both of these mowers are beasts.
    Great machines.
    Actually don’t see a noticeable difference in the overall work these machines are capable of doing but I’m well satisfied.
    After twenty years of hard mowing I finally gave the old Toro away.
    My only regret is not having a local dealership in my area.
    The dealer I purchased from in Lynchburg Va. has apparently gone out of business.
    Hustler service and parts are a pain to readily get in Bedford Va.
    Hustler is not a popular brand in my neck of the woods.
    Toro is king here.
    Probably should have stayed with Toro because of that.

    PS with the JD we mowed properties that has grass taller then that as the properties were near the coast of Texas .
    The JD minced the clippings real fine and so yes even with grass that was typically taller then the deck , it only took the know how to mow without leaving clippings or clumps everywhere.
    We also just attached a bungee cord to the discharge chute so that it was all the way back and the clippings had a better chance to not clump up .
    Ask the lawn guys that are pros how to mow grass in a certain patterns so that ya have either very little clippings or clumps .

    I liked the video and the side by side comparisons of the two monster zero turns. The Toro did cut better even though you did cut the new home lawn, but that grass wasn't manicured and very hard to even stripe with either mower. Soft dirt and with the flags stating where the sprinkler system was going would be a tough cut until it's been installed after a few years.

    We still use 2000 and 2003 Toro Z masters. Well over 4K hours on them. Hard to complain. We also two new scag turf tiger 2s. We’ll see how they hold up. We made the switch because our local shop sells scag. We have to drive an hour or more to our closest Toro dealer.

    I don't know how mower companies gauge the cut height versus the setting, but my Kubota Z422 at 3.5" cuts a lot lower than my neighbors Hustler at 3.5". And that could come down to how the deck was leveled. Either way, in your tests, don't think you could go wrong with either mower. I have a Kubota so I have no skin in this game. Just my observations.

    • @mainstreetmower
      @mainstreetmower  Місяць тому

    The Toro grass shute has a curve in vs the flat shute of the Hustler, which makes a big difference in discharge. The trick I use is to raise the shute with a bunge cord so it can throw the clippings farther and on a windy day the wind helps spread the clippings. When I finish I raise the deck and go over the clippings and spread them.

    • @mainstreetmower
      @mainstreetmower  Місяць тому

      That's awesome. Toro's patented discharge chute is by far the best in the game. You can see all the R&D that has gone in creating it.

    I have used Toro and Hustler. Hustlers drive the smoothest of all mowers I have tried. I think that it has to do with the way they set up the linkages, and I also love that putting the sticks out automatically engages the parking brake. I run a 60" Hyperdrive with now 1200 hours on the original spindles and still do not have play. I do not think that I am 100 percent satisfied with the cut, but it does cut well. I have an operator controlled discharge chute OCDC, so it does not have a deflector and the clippings spread fine. With the OCDC down, mulching with out a mulch kit, there is some blowout and windrow, but it keeps the clippings out of beds. I am buying a Toro Grandstand to try out, so I am curious about the cut difference.

    • @mainstreetmower
      @mainstreetmower  2 місяці тому

      Love the insight. Thank you for sharing. I also believe that the linkages are the reason for how smooth the hustlers are. Would love to know how you feel after trying out a grandstand.
