      RoleAce about drifting?

    • @ThrottleHouse
      @ThrottleHouse 5 років тому +108

      @@RoleAce Essentially what happened there is that Chris provoked the car into a slide in one direction; the track began to curve the other way, and he lifted intentionally to allow the car to pendulum back the other direction. He caught it and transitioned the drift perfectly. Thats very very hard to do smoothly, especially in a car thats not set up for drifting, and especially in a mid-engined car where the weight is over the rear. (the tendencey for them is to just keep rotating.) You can see how fast he moved his hands. That coupled with well timed throttle application allowed the car to transition from a slide in one direction to a slide in the other, without just becoming a spin.

    I believe its got the old school turbo lag because it's derived from a 90s Nissan racing engine. I don't mind because it's an absolutely bullet proof engine and a turbo feeling is fine in a turbo car.

    I honestly think Chris was on to something when he said it wasn't as fast as a GT2RS. I would argue it's not as fast as a GT3RS either on a circuit. And that's what the car is marketed as. "A track toy". This car retails at somewhere around 260 thousand, same with the GT2/3RS, and the Porsche will get around the circuit faster, and it's a far more refined ecosystem. Porsche's aren't going to break down every other lap because of some weird McLaren problem that nobody knows how to fix besides McLaren.

    No-one's intimidated by (or even that impressed) with 600bhp supercars anymore. The F40 put the fear of God into journalists with 478bhp back in the day. Only a select few were thought to have the skill to drive it. Car makers have made supercars accessible to the unskilled which is great for sales of course. Amazing feat of mainly electronic engineering but has something been lost?

    • @Talynen

      watch chris' video on the f40. the boost builds while holding steady throttle mid corner and the car is so light (1100kg) that without modern traction control you had to be constantly managing the car.
      The 600LT with all driver aids switched off is about the closest thing on the market to an f40 you can buy today hence why he talks about having to be real careful mid corner.

    • @iLLGT2
      @iLLGT2 5 років тому +1

      FlyHy I’d say the amg gtr also closest thing, even amg gts edition 1 tuned was a monster and would wrap someone into a pole real fast, modern rendition of my ruf gt2 imo and gt2 was very much like an f40! There are some great modern cars that give you all of that wild thrill, not as cool raw and mechanical as the older stuff of course but in terms of keeping your sensory constantly working and being on edge the amg gtr and 600 lt seems to fit the bill, however I haven’t driven the mclaren yet!

    • @shiznuts

      Which is why he seems to prefer this 600LT over the 720S/Senna as he's not 'chasing laptimes' but just wants to have fun and feel connected to the car.

    • @DrPittenstein

Well and clearly spoken relaxed and amazing driver. I think in the top gear series he wasn't himself due to the stupid scripts they develop for the show. End of the day, we need more of him. He is the only one who provides the opinion i need for cars instead of the kids car shows like Shmee (drives like a 70yo woman and has absolutely nothing negative to say about anything because everything is a promotion. It's beyond me why Mclaren doesn't build their engines without noticeable lag. Heck even my M4 comes close to a n/a throttle feel and response. There are enough technologies out there to minimize the lag to an extent where you barely notice. I wonder what their reason is.

    Yet another fantastic car from McLaren. These guys are really shaking up the Super car status quo. Brilliant Sport series car with the extra special LT magic dust. Ok its no LIMITED SUPER series 675LT car but for a sport series car its epic. With McLaren probably building 2,000 of the 600LT more people will get to enjoy them versus the original and LIMITED 675LT so it will be interesting to see how this effects residuals. Personally I would buy a nearly new 675LT spider as with only 500 made worldwide its guaranteed to be the more collectable car

    If you can have one car Chris out of these 3 models. What would your choice be. A 2019 991.2 GT3 RS, 2019 PORSCHE TURBO S OR THE McLaren 600LT? For street and Track.

    Hi Mate, I have had a terrible experience with bmw customer service regarding an m140i exhaust rattle, which is incredibly common. Apparently bmw have replaced the standard exhaust with a valveless MPE for other people but then refuse to do it for me. The bmw sounds like a bloody tractor! If you truly are an unbiased motoring journalist then you must cover this!

    McLaren wth the looks of a Lamborghini would be the mutts nuts! The ONLY thing that disappoints is the looks, although I do understand the aero is important with McLaren, watching a 720 destroy cars with 400bhp more convinced me they have made use of the data from F1 to huge advantage. Brilliant British car maker we should be proud of.

    Nice car, but: it looks funny like a Citroen (subjective, yes I know) and I've driven crappy 4-bangers with a better exhaust note. That sound has no soul, which is sad, considering the awesome noise a P1 makes.

    Headrest was annoying. Top Gear should be Harris, Catchpole, and Goy - no audience no stupid games no challenges. Just beautifully made films like this one and we'd be happy with the BBC showing it everyday.

    Why is it that all McLarens basically look the same and use the same turbo V8? Or Koenigsegg for that matter? I’d love to see these companies make something new...

    McLaren should take the analog greatness of the 570 even further by giving it a proper manual gearbox and pair it with an NA version of their v8. Call it a 470MT.

    I felt compelled to add that they might as well call it the Chris Harris show with a better budget, but I see that everyone else has been doing that for me! Personally, I don't have any problems with the show or other presenters. I felt the Clarkson, May, Hammond dynamic was getting a bit stale anyway. But CH in my opinion is better than all of them. Much more relate-able and enthusiastic. Kutgw

    You contradict yourself on this video on what you said on the 720s video. Make up your mind. With the 570 and the 720s I see no point or reason for the existence of the 600LT.

    The narration is informative and nice, but I wish they also make videos where they feature just the car. Some nice panning to see all the details, and replay of how the car move and sound through the tracks. Maybe throw some text on screen for the specs.

    you know what's funny? that anyone who talks about a Ferrari doesn't need to compare it to other cars, where every time you guys talk about an english car you need to compare to a 458 488 or similar to get an idea to the viewers!

    If you don't need a track car, would you go for a 570GT instead? Used ones are quite cheap now compared to their new price.
