My best friend youngest brother was deported back to Cambodia about 10 years ago too, he came to U.S. when he was only 2 years old. Most of Laotian and cambodian came to U.S. as a refugee due to war and most of us though that we are permanent resident and didn’t bother to take a test to become U.S. citizen. It’s sad to see so many families being torn apart, at least your uncle and his friend (cambodian hippie) are doing good and living a good life. Thank for sharing your uncle story.

007nait It was about the money. The more deportees Cambodia accepted, the more money the US would pay. Fortunately, Cambodia is reducing acceptance of deportees--not because they have a heart but because the US wasn't giving enough money. Smh.

and the crimes could have been joyriding, petty theft, and school gang fight. Many made these mistakes when they were refugee teenagers, arriving in a totally strange and hostile country and struggling everywhere they went, regardless the school they attended, the rundown apartment they lived in, or the street they walked. There were kids with traumatic memory of the killing field. Others without anyone besides because their parents got slaughtered by Pol Pot. and you have the guts to judge them? who then may judge you later?

Hmmm... I am a Vietnamese immigrant that left Vietnam when I was 8 months to a refugee camp in the Philippines (Palawan). I came here, was an immigrant and lived in the Project Housing in Buffalo, NY then moved to the East Side. I made it out, I never joined a gang or did any of that stupid shit I knew better. I went to an all Black school and eventually got into the 2nd best High School in the city (entrance exam). Graduated college and now reside in GA. I was picked on all my life for being different, being Asian in the ghetto streets but never once did I give in.

Thanks uncle Sam for sending them back without support. Imagine if they don't have family or friends. I've seen some around the river side selling drugs. Thanks again.
