- A very simple mission with Hellreign82, where we get scrambled to intercept some inbound B-52's.
Technically there were supposed to be two Phantoms attacking but for some reason one of them got lost.... Don't ask, we don't know either. We would run this mission like 4 times and get different results every time from the AI, it's insane.
Take into account I haven't flown the Mig-21 in over a year so I remembered nothing aside from where the trigger was. Hellreign kind of carried my ass here. Either way we had fun with it, it obviously could have been better and more dramatic but I think leaving it as is was just more fitting.

The landing could be better. The Russian standard for landing the 21 is a rapid removal of lift vectors by rolling the plane on the tarmac and screaming during the whole process.

That was a tidy flight, not bad for someone who hasn't flown the MiG 21 for a year!! You might find this interesting, check out the lightning association website for some interesting stories on how the English Electric Lightning was flown on QRA scrambles by the RAF intercepting aircraft in the Norway-UK-Greenland gap. They'd be doing intecepts 450 miles from base with air to air refuelling from sea level to 50,000ft in all weather and times of day, in complete radio silence for the most part in a jet that is more or less a twin engined MiG 21!!
I'll second you on that, that plane desperately needs a full fidelity flight sim for it, would be great to see the feranti ai23 radar modeled on it, it'll be perfect for the cold war servers to sit QRA with. F6 would be the best to model in dcs

There's always plenty of tankers around!! According to lightning pilots they had a sixth sense for finding tankers so that solves that problem!

The Landing howling sound at 12:11 minute is amazing.
What altitude were the B-52s flying at? Seemed pretty low to me; as I understand it B-52s would usually be found above 50,000 ft or, less commonly, flying nap of the Earth to go in below the radar (though the USAF turned away from the low-altitude approach after examining their losses in Vietnam).
When I saw him overshoot the tire marks, it was over. Kinda hoping he would do around at that point. Good video, makes me want to jump into the 21!

Good landing, I had a chance to fly on a mig-21 simulator with cockpit and the damn thing was almost impossible to land and the controls were so heavy felt like a gym workout, that said, nice plane to fly. Hardest plane to control at low speed.

Would be nice if the B-52s had their rear turrets working. In an old flight sim I loved, Janes F-15 if you turned on your own country (there was only the F-15) and attacked a B-52 it would absolutely hammer you if didn't approach from the right angle. If you attacked head on the cannon would still land a few shots on you as you flew past.

So what Hotas are you running now? I know you had gotten some of the virpil or vkb stuff.
I'm running my Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS for most things, but I like my VIRPIL setup for things like the 21 and 18, while I use the t16000 FCS for things like ARMA and Shit Thunder, etc. It's a mixed bag of combinations.
@ralfidude, by this lousy weather, wouldn't it have made sense to set up the "cloud mode" for the radar? Or was it already on?
The reduced cloud effect button was on, nothing I can do about ground clutter though
I find it interesting that the three B52s didn't use any countermeasures against the MiGs, such as chaff, flares, ECM, guns, or evasive maneuvers. Must be like shooting fish in a barrel.
That's because it's an amateur game. Very little to almost no realistic play.
How can you learn/fly this beast with the russian cockpit labels ?
I had the english mod cockpit a long while ago, and it made me remember where certain things were, but mostly Hellreign jogged my memory for all the essential things I had to re-remember. Some things I forgot, like locking the nose wheel before take off and silly little things like that.

Those 52's were tanking up to 3-4 missiles in our testing, it wasn't missile collision.

How do you use your mouse w/ your joystick and throttle? Do you sit it beside one or the other?
It is Telekinesis. He mentioned it during one of his streams. He actually puts his mouse as far away from his HOTAS as possible.
Wuffball to avoid using a mouse you could use an eye tracker also

Is the 21 a true multi-roll or is it designed as a fighter first?
The multi-role is more of a gimmick than anything, but it can do air to ground. It's really an intercept fighter. Short range, take off from field and get guided on towards what needs killing and come right back home. But they expanded on this bird quite a bit because it was so popular among several nations due to how cheap it was. The most recent variant has a radar equivalent to that of an F-16. That's nothing to sneer at.

Probably intentional, bombers can take multiple missiles to take down and the mig-21 has double launch capability

It's both. Officially only for exterior lights, but certain flight squadrons have adopted it to mean speed as well.

Well, F-15E is a different story. It's in development, not by ED but RAZBAM, so theoretically it can also come in 2k19. But let's be realistic, it probably ain't gonna happen right.
I love the 70s aircraft. People think they are ugly but many aces were made in those aircraft. They were the backbone of the Cold War. I would love to fly an A6 and all it's variants. Imagine flying a supersonic bomber/tanker/elint/SEAD aircraft. The A6 did all of those roles.
