This game is a blast! if you struggle in MMX, you should change your dash button to R1. Completely changes the speed of the game. Speedrunners do this, and I do too. It's 10x better that the A button. Thanks for the video.
One thousand percent this. I think I picked up R-dash from "Tiny Toons: Buster Busts Loose" and it became a permanent part of my control setup afterwards. It makes movement feel SO much better.
This game is clearly much more inspired by megaman Zero series. Grappling hook is just like zero's grappling hook, the customization armor menu reminds me of chip customization in Zero 3 and extra moves that enhance combat is just Zero EX moves. Gravity Circuit looks amazing. Also a game being short is not a downside. Its a design decision and for a game like this this is much better since you can replay it easily then.
@@panthekirb7561 MMZ is already plenty good, tbh. I think the only things I remember not liking are that the little pistol is a bit goofy (but, I don't know, that's Zero, who cares about the pistol, lol) and that the Cyber Elves were all consumables you're incentivised not to actually use. Plus the Ranking system thing, but that was already a thing in like post 4 X
Protip for Mega Man X: Map the dash button to R. I spent my childhood hitting A with the side of my index finger so I could stay on shoot and jump. I hope I never have to go back to that.
This. After playing the MMZ games, having dash on a shoulder button made it much easier to hit simultaneously. It wasn't impossible, but you did have to hold your thumb across Y, B, and A (Nintendo placement) to hit all 3. It was necessary with the default controls because you really need to use all 3 at once. Taking your finger off of jump and shoot to dash is going to be a bad time. Having dash on a shoulder is much more comfortable. I love the MMX games and will still defend them, but the other critiques are valid. I've had Gravity Rush sitting in my backlog for too long. I had better give it a try.
I just place my thumb on all three buttons and mashing them with the same thumb... Never knew you could do that for the decades I have played it. Now I am not sure I want to change because of the muscle memory...
This is my favorite indie game of all time. Just an absolute blast all-around. Some free DLC has been added to the game since launch as well, so there's more content now, like collectible palette swaps that have unique abilities tied to them and an option to play with remixed harder stage layouts.
To me, the main takeaway I had that made this one of my games of the year for 2023 (alongside Sea of Stars) is the fact that it can match the speed and flow of the Mega Man Zero games. Kai's kit actually reminds me a LOT more of Zero's moves from X4 and the Zero titles compared to X, and that's always been my favorite style of play in Mega Man. I can reliably get the same "don't stop for nothing" mad dashes through stages in Gravity Circuit that I can in MMZ, quickly taking anything that gets in my way out in close quarters and feeling like I'm styling on what the game's throwing at me like I'm playing a Devil May Cry game sometimes.
While I hope this becomes the new standard for action platformers, I do think Gravity Circuit has a few problems, particularly with it being too easy to break its difficulty. The devs seem to at least somewhat agree as they continue to add in new modifiers or challenges with the intention of making the game more difficult. Gravity circuit excels in the customization but that unfortunately has costs. Overall loved the game, wouldn't call it a masterpiece on my end but certainly a terrific game that I hope more people play. Great game and great video. Glad others beside myself are shining a light on this game!
Honestly, I felt that Gravity Circuit was modeled more after the Megaman Zero games(which built off of the skeleton established in X), especially in regards to the Speed based Circuit's stage harkening back to a stage in Megaman Zero 2 and how the game is also very melee, combo-focused with the utilization of your character's in-game kit(like the grapple hook that also doubles as a weapon) to make for more varied level design. The only thing missing is the balls to walls difficulty lol. You thought Megaman X was bad? Ooh boy. Megaman Zero will rip you a new one(although 1 is honestly hard for all the wrong reasons IMO), especially since Megaman X1 is considered to be one of the easiest megaman games.
There was a semi recent update to this game that added even more modifiers for playthroughs that you unlock after beating the game. The most notable of these I feel are Master Levels, which revamps the level designs to become even more deadly, and Rude Enemies, which changes up almost every enemy and boss attack pattern to become more difficult and keep you on your toes. So if you were like me and felt the game was a little too short and wanted more from it, this makes for a really good way to replay the game and truly put your Gravity Circuit skills to the test.
Megaman X isn't hard at all, though. Gravity Circuit is cool, but saying it's better than MMX is a stretch. Also... You know you can remap the buttons when playing MMX, right?
Honestly if I had to rank Mega man x games, and Gravity Circuit was included, I'd put it at the very top. One of the best platformers of this type, absolutely loved it.
Oh yeah, effing LOVED this game. Banger soundtrack, really really good, and awesome gameplay. It makes Mighty No.9 "cry like an anime fan during prom night", alright! Jokes aside, yeah, it's amazing, everyone sould at least try it.
Thank you Snoman for finally reviewing one of the best 2D Platformer video games to come out in 2023 along with Super Mario Bros Wonder, Pizza Tower, New Super Mario World 1 The Twelve Magic Orbs Powered Up, Mario's Ruined Seclusion, Power Guy World, Super Mario Starlight, Mario In Mushroom Rix Land 4 Trip To Nano Island & BZZZT!!!!!!!!!!!
0:16 How did you get this voice recording of me when playing Mega Man?! 😂 Jokes aside, this looks amazing! Hard to believe I've never heard of it before. Definitely adding it to my to-play list.
Noooo!!! I had this in my cart all Summer Sale and instead pulled on the new season for Guilty Gear. I literally thought to myself, "I wish Snoman had a video on this". Excited to see your take on this!
People have already said this game is more Megaman Zero inspired than Megaman X, so I won't add to that pile. I'll just say thank you for showing me a game like this exists, because I'm all about chasing the Megaman Zeto itch Capcom won't provide.
This one has been on my wishlist for a while now. I need to get it when it goes on sale. I loved Cyber Shadow though. Need to look into Panzer Paladin. Thanks for another great video!
I agree about the default dash config on MMX. I changed my dash button to R about 5 minutes after i got the dash the very first time and never looked back!
They absolutely knocked it out of the park with Gravity Circuit! Easily one of my favorite games of last year. Try to tell anyone I can to play it. hah
Say no more then, Snoman, just added it to my wishlist :). Btw, some piece of funny trivia regarding this game: the composer is Dominic Ninmark, which happens to be the composer of Mega Man X corrupted OST as well (still being developed but it couldn't look any better, considering it's a fan-made game).
So what I'm hearing is that this game did what Shovel Knight did for people who Like Classic Castlevania(in theory) but have trouble with the actual games? Sweet!
The lead developer of Gravity Circuit has actually recommended Bat Boy to anyone looking for a similar experience to his game quite a few times on the Gravity Circuit Discord
@@PikaPhantomVGThats wholesome. Maybe I should check the game out sooner rather than later but I have such a large steam backlog that I finally want to put an effort into clearing.
If you like this then you should give gunvolt a try. Those games feel even better to play. Just start with the striker bundle since 1 and 2 are still by far the best ones
Sure but if you’re the average joe, you expect the controls to be already mapped for an ideal experience instead of having to hear it on the internet then doing it manually. It’s not that big of a deal he criticized it.
LOL I can't believe you just played MMX while having the dash button on the A button (or circle in PS1). Well, you do you. I just map it in R1 ever since.
To be fair with mmx, the first game is a little on the harder side and more cryptic, especially since you sorta have to start with chill penguin to get rhe leg upgrades and allot of new players get discouraged when they try any other route first lol. But X2 and onward, the games get a little easier to pick a random boss and try to beat it with the regular buster. (Okay ill admit X3 is a little bullshit too with enemy placement and high damage lol)
Despite the aesthetics being more Megaman X, a lot of the mechanics here to me look a bit closer to Megaman Zero actually. From the way you talk here it sounds like you may not have played them in which case, let this be a strong recommendation for you to do so. They're bangers, even if the first one is a bit rough around the edges But yeah, this looks tremendously fun, can't wait to give it a go
This was my second favorite indie game of last year. If you want another game similar i recommend my favorite indie game last year: Vengeful Guardian Moonrider.
I really was not that keen about the game when I played the demo. I admitedly might not have been in the correct mindspace or something but it felt off in a few regards. However, so many of my favourite UA-camrs are praising it that I will definitely play it. I've been yearning for a good new action platformer and despite that I am not the greatest fan of the Mega Man model, I would still take a great game like that over nothing.
I just finished it. It was really, really good. I started New Game + immediately. I am glad your review swayed me. I am not sure how I missed it despite playing the demo. I felt it feels clunky and overly reliant on you to space out everything too precisely or whatever. I might not have been in the mood. Also, I believe my controller was playing tricks on me due to bad d-pad rubbers back then. Anyway, I feel this is the best Mega Man game I ever played (Shovel Knight not included, I don't consider it a Mega Man game entirely but if I did, I would have liked it more). I am glad you made this video.
Hope you can get into the Mega Man X games one day, in my opinion the SNES trilogy is some of the finest speedy run and gun type of games, X4 is great too, Gravity Circuit was on my raday but after this video i'll definitely pick it up.
Honestly, I've become a bit exhausted with all the Mega Man-esque indie games over the past few years (20XX/30XX, Fallen Knight, Metagal, Metaloid: Origin, Super Alloy Ranger, Venture Kid, Berserk Boy) that I just haven't had it in me to pick another one up. Most of them have been fun, but I pick them up once and never have a desire to play them again. I've heard some incredibly good things about this one though, so maybe I have it in me to pick up one more! Great review. To be fair with Mega Man, though, the X series is probably the EASIEST in the franchise. I suck at Mega Man and they're just about the only series of games I can actually beat.
My problem with that game was the final boss. Once it goes to its final fase(which is similar to the second phase) it becomes downright unbeatable. I had to replay the whole game on lower difficulty because of the stupid final boss. I let a negative review about this game just because of this inconvenience. Who the fuck thought that it was good idea to give the boss a phase with a very small barely visible window where the player can deal damage?
Okay, you sold me. I just bought it. (On sale! w00t!) My very weird MMX technique for dashing was to reach my right pointer finger around to the front of the game pad and press the A button that way. Just became habit after a while. 😅 I just do it without thinking now.
You should do a review of Beeny. It’s an amazing little 99 cent platformer with the graphics of the original DKC(and comparable music). One of my favorite platformers ever, but over in about 30 minutes.
Got to be honest, I am kind of sick of hearing deliberate control schemes as being clunky. Like almost every review I saw of Ghosts N Goblins Resurrection would mention the clunky controls, even though its deliberate. People think you're character doing 30 backflips and having a ton of options just means its better, which I can't stand anymore.
I played Mega Man on the game boy as a kid. It was hella hard. I think your video made me realize I don’t like the Mega Man games. I’ve got Gravity Circuit on my backlog, but I’m more excited to play Cyber Shadow.
I bought this game right after watching your vid a few days ago. I gotta say it is a blast to play. Kai is so freakin fast and agile, man. And the OST has gone into my top 10 favorites of all time. I did have a couple of glitches tho... one was with the boss fight against Bit. He got stuck at the bottom left of the screen. I had to suicide to restart the battle lol. And at some point the game lost my controller, and would only take arrow key inputs from the keyboard. Had to restart the game to correct that. Overall I think this game is amazing and I've been telling all my gamer buddies about it. Thanks for producing this vid with the truest title ever! XD
If the whole point of the game is to make you feel like you're good at megaman X than it makes sense for it to take as long as megaman x if you're good at it.
Bro, I love your channel and generally agree with you but I gotta say 2:45 Is such a weird take. Like, yeah, you lack information when you boot up the game for the first time that you acquire by exploring, trying and failing at it. It almost sounds like you’re implying every videogame should come with a list of all secrets and where to find them and what the best strategies to beat the game are. Throughout the video it sounds like you’re trying to imply that this game is an improved and better Mega Man X which I wholeheartedy disagree with. Besides the fact that you’re comparing the fluidity of a 500MB game vs a game that came out on an SNES cartridge (which should have been around a couple Megabytes), this game is clearly meant to be a fast-paced steamroll through armies of enemies kind of game, which MMX just wasn’t. Hell, it couldn’t have been this kind of game if it wanted to because of hardware limitations. MMX is not meant to be a power fantasy, it’s challenging and requires the player to be constantly focused and aware of their surroundings. Even lore-wise it’s pretty expected for those I wil never forgive you for calling Robot Masters (/s of course, but they are technically Maverick Reploids, or just Mavericks) to kick your ass. Ar the beginning of the story X is not really anyone special, he’s a very early prototype that basically joins the equivalent of a police force. He just has a mega buster, which is basically just a service weapon to defend himself, it wouldn’t really make sense for him to have an arsenal of weapons and a plethora of power combat abilities. He technically wasn’t even made for combat in the first place, he was basically just Pinocchio. Gravity Circuit is definitely a great game, a high octane fast platformer with smooth controls and flashy visuals. But it’s not a better Mega Man X, because it’s not even what X was meant to be in the first place.
Ive been wanting to play megaman again(it was very difficult when i was a little kid haha) And knowing this one, looks FANTASTIC. Ill play 100%. Also i love all the megaman robot art and stuff so 11/10 Great Video
Looks like a fun game, and I will likely be picking this one up. I like that this one looks 8-bit, I think it would be cool if they followed the Alwa’s awakening/legacy series and made a sequel in more of a 16-bit. I appreciated how they did that with that series and genuinely making it feel like the series went “next gen” with the sequel. By the way, I agree that Panzer Paladin is an awesome game!
1:38 How are you positioning your fingers on a SNES controller? XD Some people have already mentioned the similarities with Mega Man Zero but the saving robots thing started in the Playstation Mega Man X.
I decided to go back and play MMX last month and I feel the exact same way. So much of my love for the series really is in nostalgia, as the real thing feels far more frustrating than I remember.
I've always been bad at Mega Man and Mega Man X games. Decided to give X another go earlier this year and I eventually did beat it but man, had no excitement to play x2 and on. I think you sold this game to me. Though most comments are saying this plays like MM Zero and I absolutely adored that series when I was younger. Now I'm double sold on this game.
Gravity Circuit is amazing, but I really dislike the comparisons you're making. At every point you make you pretty much go "...Unlike MMX where this thing was worse and/or awful". No need to put it down like that, specially considering that was one of the 1st times we got fast-paced 2D action platformers. Anyways, Gravity Circuit deserves more praise and attention, it's a phenomenal game. Cyber Shadow too, I've been replaying it lately and it's even better on a second playthough. We have an amazing lineup of 2D indie games that carry on the torch of old classics.
i downloaded this game today and i noticed that when i close the game and start up again, i begin all over even though my saved file does show up. even when i extra select ''Reload last checkpoint'' i still i start all over. do you maybe know why this is?
I always admired this game but always looked away from it because of the Mega Man gameplay style, but damn, this video made me more interested in it. Just wishlisted and will buy when it goes on sale 😃
Oh my god, the beginning of the video describes me perfectly. I slogged through MegaMan Zero 1 and did beat it, but I was so worn out that I just couldn't bring myself to complete Zero 2, especially with how heavily penalized you are for having the gall to actually use your cyber elf upgrades, as well as getting hit more than a couple of times (no boss reward unless you get A rank or higher!).
+1 to setting dash to R. It just makes sense.
I personally set it to L, so it fits with the Zero and ZX games. In those games, your sub-weapon is R.
I always appreciated how even x1 let you button config
@@PowerPandaMods I swap it there too, but if you are more familiar with those it makes sense.

My very weird MMX technique for dashing was to reach my right pointer finger around to the front of the game pad and press the A button that way. Just became habit after a while. 😅 I just do it without thinking now.
In X, I always hit the dash tith the side of my finger that was shooting.
Isn't it just a constraint of the time? Genuinely asking here. You thin they deliberately made megaman's movement slow and more difficult to control?
XD
I’ll probably give this a shot, but really it just looks like a dumbed down version of Mega Man for people that aren’t that good with a challenge.
If the whole point of the game is to make you feel like you're good at megaman X than it makes sense for it to take as long as megaman x if you're good at it.
Bro, I love your channel and generally agree with you but I gotta say
2:45 Is such a weird take.
I played it last month, this is a great Mega man X indie, 10/10 for me.
I like Mega Man but the games were always way too hard for me, this game seems like a perfect choice for me!
Ive been wanting to play megaman again(it was very difficult when i was a little kid haha) And knowing this one, looks FANTASTIC. Ill play 100%.
Also i love all the megaman robot art and stuff so 11/10
Great Video
awesome recomendation
Finally someone is talking about this masterpiece
YEEEESSSSS. Man this channel made me fall in love with indie games.
Something something the hell they raised me (megaman x2). I was just a boy!!!! Getting to the post-8 bosses phase was monumental
Great video! 3-4 hours? Sounds normal for Mega Man games.
Such a great game! So glad to see folks out here showing it off.
“I’m gonna keep pretending I’m good at Mega Man and never look back!” Lmaooo same bro! Love the game!
Just wanted to tell you that I really appreciate your content :)
1:38 How are you positioning your fingers on a SNES controller? XD
Some people have already mentioned the similarities with Mega Man Zero but the saving robots thing started in the Playstation Mega Man X.
I beat this for the first time just last night, and was blown away. On of the best games I have ever played.
That thumbnail graphic lmao, looked at it too quickly and thought it said "You need weed to play Gravity Circuit" and I was like... negative cap'n
I decided to go back and play MMX last month and I feel the exact same way. So much of my love for the series really is in nostalgia, as the real thing feels far more frustrating than I remember.
All the games you mentioned are already on my wishlist. I'm just waiting to find em on sale.
It's MMZ5.
Another bit that makes it far more approachable than the classic Mega Men I've played - infinite lives!
Implying this random indie game with worse art and music is better than MMX just because it's easier 😂😂
I can't wait to actually play it, I'll have to get it soon. The art is super cool, but I'm so ready for a really polished 2.5D X-type game.
you can dash with any button in MMX, L is the best option for me
The hidden items in the MMX games are too hidden for me.... and on that note this review is DISQUALIFIED 😂.
a melee with some kind of ropes to the ceilings? Looks like changing the sprites to batman will do.
I always admired this game but always looked away from it because of the Mega Man gameplay style, but damn, this video made me more interested in it. Just wishlisted and will buy when it goes on sale 😃
Great review!!!
This game looks so good. Definitely gonna get it on Switch.
i set the game to auto run so i didn't need to hold a button to run.
In Mega Man X, the games always allow you to remap buttons. I always had dash on L2. Makes the game WAY BETTER!!!
Based on this video it seems like it's X1 with the QOL changes of X4
Oh my god, the beginning of the video describes me perfectly. I slogged through MegaMan Zero 1 and did beat it, but I was so worn out that I just couldn't bring myself to complete Zero 2, especially with how heavily penalized you are for having the gall to actually use your cyber elf upgrades, as well as getting hit more than a couple of times (no boss reward unless you get A rank or higher!).
Couldn't Agree more. This game is a masterpiece. From the gameplay to the music (S tier). Game is just insane
As a mm fan , all your comments and the comments section hurt my soul. But this game its absolutely unbelievable cool, go get it
i played this to 99% but i just couldn't beat the final boss for two days and just gave up, the rest of the game is pretty good tho
It's soooooooooo difficult
They recently patched the final boss to make it slightly easier. Maybe trying it again will work?
I gifted this game to my best friend. This makes me wanna take it for a spin.
