We always look to the past and say things are better when we can do the same exact things today. It's a social bias when people say my days where better. It's nostalgia. But rather than looking to the past we should look to today and make memories
Peoples working lives have changed for e.g. people had lunch hours and even shops were shut after 5 or 6 in the even that might now be viewed by some as luxurious. They would have had more time between the ads then than now and also a captive audience because there wasn't as wide a choice of TV. Also these days gardeners are encouraged to use peat free compost.
Yes back to the time of aids, racism, having your bum pinched and being expected to laugh it off and just the general homophobic attitude everywhere. Oh and the early 80s when Childline wasn't a thing yet so children like me got continually molested. Happy days

My parents were given the Swan kettle and toaster (possibly the coffee maker as well, although I never saw that) for wedding presents in August 1982. They've been divorced over a year now lol. It weren't the Swans fault though
Was so good to see Roseland landor. Loved her so much in cats eyes. She was my favourite that and her blue cabriolet. So sad that she wasn’t in the second series. 🇬🇧 18/10/20.
I live in where that Ford is driving down the mountain at the 23.28 minute mark. It’s Mam Ratagan between Glenelg and Shiel Bridge. I know that’s not a big deal, but it’s gorgeous and the ruler of the UAE has his estate here. Big Arab bugger brings up his hoardes of wives and armed security folk once a year.
Great selection of adverts. The car advert story with the couple was not very realistic though - 53:50. The husband had gone quite a long way down the path of setting up a business by getting two friends to join him and had arranged the backing, but was only telling his wife at that point! She should have known as soon as he thought about the idea of starting up his own business and discussed it with him all the way through the process. She might even have been against it as it will affect here financially too. One of his better decisions would have been to inform her sooner!
Woodpecker? Who drinks that now? But well known in the 1980s. Then shite like Carling is still going! Interesting to see what brands thrived and what failed.
Folks, I'm going crazy trying to find an advert from the 80s - can anyone help? It was for a cleaning product (maybe Pledge, or something similar). It featured a woman cleaning rooms in a house, singing a version of This Ole House/This Old House (was a hit for Shakin' Stevens). They'd changed the lyrics to include lines like "this old house could use some sparkle, this old house could use some shine..". At the end of the ad was a reveal - she was cleaning inside the houses of parliament. I can't find it anywhere, but I'm sure it's not a figment of my imagination...?
Blimey there's a different with these adverts to the ones show in Nottingham in the 80s, we never had much about computers, video cameras or wine...it was all tea and margarine
I remember the Cornetto ad and the ads for bran flakes and fruit and fibre and Start all Kellogg's cereal and all advertised alongside All Bran as healthier cereals. Also remember the Castrol ad. Maybe the use of moss peat shouldn't have been seen as good thing given that peat bogs store carbon therefore digging it up releases it and therefore contributes to climate change thank goodness gardeners have been encouraged to use peat free compost
Happy, simple, gentle and a content time😂❤ I love watching those adverts brings back wonderful memories
Yes , they were carefree , happy days that I took for granted and miss so much
Amazing how you can put a face to many of the voiceovers. Perfect lock-down binge watching. I miss the 70s and 80s because the world's gone mad.
The world is full of anger and evil now
Editing out all the ads recorded on vhs as a kid only to sit and watch this for an hour.
Yay!!! Long time no see!
I love anything retro, back when life was good and the future was bright.
Thanks for the upload.
Funny because at the time was all thought we were gonna die any day!
We always look to the past and say things are better when we can do the same exact things today. It's a social bias when people say my days where better. It's nostalgia. But rather than looking to the past we should look to today and make memories
It's interesting seeing how much technology has changed. Adverts definitely were more imaginative back then.
What are you doing to me!? Adverts for Start and Ricicles, 2 of the best cereals ever that you can’t get anymore! 😢
How lovely it would be to give up living in this crap time and go back to the brilliant 80,s
No woke, politically correct box ticking in our adverts back then. Culturally, it was so much better
Wel guess what I am living in the eighties right now
Well what are waiting for then want to join me in going back to the 80s
Yes back to the time of aids, racism, having your bum pinched and being expected to laugh it off and just the general homophobic attitude everywhere. Oh and the early 80s when Childline wasn't a thing yet so children like me got continually molested. Happy days
2ombieboy you are an actual legend, thank you good sir.

My family also had that swan kettle and toaster. Lasted well in to the 90s
We have a Sawn teasmade to this day. It still makes a lovely cuppa.

I always thought the Castrol GTX was one of the best adverts ever.
Me too. I loved how golden the oil looked
27:04 really couldn’t tell what was being advertised until the end! BMW, Diet Coke? Oh, it’s Shell 🤷🏻♂️😂
You got UNCLE WONG 😂.....LMAO
Peter Blake RIP who played Kirk St Moritz aka Eric Morris in the sitcom Dear John in the Vauxhall ad 31:03
Selena Cadell with him as well, Mrs Tishell from Doc Martin.

using adblock while i watch 1 hour of ads
My favourite ads are always the local business ones
Especially when it came up on screen in the local cinema. We thought the local curry house was world famous.
@04:18 it's Spud Gun! 😂
Flamingo Land £5 all day including parking… now it’s £49.75 per person over the age of 4
I don't remember the AA advert with Ronnie Barker and it sounds like David Jason doing the voiceover
The gas advertisement never aged well.
Spudgun from "Bottom" at 4:23
With a cup of steaming cold tea
The Paul Hogan advert would be banned today. Gay rights.
Great selection of adverts. The car advert story with the couple was not very realistic though - 53:50. There is adverts from RTE advert breaks in Ireland Shamrock of course in it.
Simple is so much easier (adverts)
Woodpecker? Who drinks that now? But well known in the 1980s. Then shite like Carling is still going! Interesting to see what brands thrived and what failed.
So so true
16:20 Vosene ad : God Bless the lovely Eiisabeth Sladen and Kenneth Macdonald.
Any 'attack a stacker' ads with acker bilk anywhere?

It's not a figment of your imagination, 😉
Put the Shake n vac & put the freshness back.
@@mistereuro dude, thanks for replying! I'm not insane! Have you seen it recently? I'll be your bestest friend forever if you can find it!
who could give this a Thumbs down ? . .. -someone from outside of European origin perhaps . . ?

56:30 John Challis -Boycie in Only Fools And Horses and Green Green Grass in the Pizza Hut ad
23:40 …. THE most dangerous advert ever filmed. …. Let’s make a model stroke a TV that’s plugged in and being washed by the sea …..
In that Tesco ad,that actor played the Governor at Borstal in Scum. Is that Jacqueline Tonge from Upstairs Downstairs.
These are local adds. Never heard of most of them
Can anyone find the advert for MIRA showers? There was a young family from Crewe, who said only a MIRA will do…
McCain Micro chips... always came out soggy and a bit inedible.
advertising the basics ,,, GRAVY LOL
9:27, That's Porn Star, RIchard Locke! he did a lot of American Gay films. 9:33, oh yeah, definitely

No bullshit, politically correct, woke, box ticking adverts. Oh man, please take me back now.
Well why not join meback to the eighties right now then
Really weird when a modern advert pops up in the middle
Anthony Head, Giles from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" flogging space Malibu @ 37:44
And the coffee Gold blend ads
When did Boycie become Italian 😂😂😂
Mickey Pearce in the one before it at Madame Tussards
2ombieboy's VHS Vault Do you have any episodes of Hollyoaks from around 2006-2007 by any chance?
At 5.30 ish on the yoghurt advert - why the F**K is he CHEWING the yoghurt? WHAT A TW@!
Take me back then please. Before pc destroyed everything and people wasn't afraid to speak their minds. Uk was so much better before it joined the EU.
STFU!
Do behave. If you want a political rant, find a Farage video or something.
We joined well before these ads came out....
@Chris Collins: I agree, although technically we were in the EEC at this point, it wasn't the federalist socialist project it is now.
The adverts back then were so normal now they are crap and complete trash
55:33, Nah that won't catch on.
@33:54
Good video ruined by the adverts
