Rear Wiper Assembly replacement, not really much to it. Remove rear hatch cover panel, unbolt motor bracket, remove outside lock nut, wiggle until free.

On this other guy`s video repairing the bezel nipple on his red pre 97 Jeep Cherokee, he said that the bezel comes off from the inside but I see yours comes off from the outside. I said that if it came off from the inside I wouldn`t fool with replacing it. I tried using a red WD40 tube straw in place of the broken nipple but the washer fluid isn`t getting to the wiper. I don`t know if the straw is too skinny or the fluid hasn`t made it from the washer reservoir. You can hear the washer pump running.

How did you get the rear hatch panel off without breaking the plastic where the pins are at and where is the one screw that you mentioned?
    Thanks,
    Robert

2 things, where did you find that wiper motor? and also
I fixed my wiper hose by melting in a small peice of a metal insert from a pen.

AKghandi Got the motor from Rockauto.com but local auto parts stores should be able to get one for your as well. My epoxy fix didn't last long so i just grabbed a new one from the junkyard.

My XJ didn't come with a rear wiper from the factory, just a blank cap in it's place. I been wanting to pick one up from a junk yard and put it on but not sure how bad the wiring would be. Would it be as simple as running a power/ground with an on/off switch or wiring up relay's etc to make it work?

+TheAmericanUhate Hmm, didn't know you could get an xj without a rear wiper. I would assume that the wiring is all there and all you have to do is buy a motor and a switch but I would pop off the tailgate panel and check first.

NickInTimeFilms It's got the rubber hose for the windshield cleaner but I didn't see any wiring/plugs for it.

+TheAmericanUhate Hmm, well if you checked all around in the wiring loom and don't seen any connectors, You'll have to wire it yourself. Good news is it doesn't look that complicated. The wiring diagram in my haynes manual shows the pin outs for the motor. You'll have to figure out if the motor is case grounded or if that black wire on the pigtail is the ground. One wire should be hot at all times, and the other wire should be a positive trigger to start the motor. My diagram shows one trigger for wipe mode, and another trigger for wash mode but they basically do the same thing so I'm not sure how the 3 pin is laid out unless it is case grounded which wouldn't make since for a fiberglass hatch. i1059.photobucket.com/albums/t437/NickInTimeFilms/Jeep%20Stuff/xj%20rear%20wiper_zps0eqtnkeu.jpg

NickInTimeFilms I'm going to take a look at one when I go to the junk yard next time and see how much of the wiring harness for the wiper/washer out of one. It doesn't sound too bad from what you showed and that diagram helps tons too. My Jeep is a weird one, came with no rear wiper, manual everything, but a full skid plate package under it. It's a 1990, 2 door. Thanks, I appreciate it!

How well did that epoxy hold up over time? One of the washer hookups on the front of my jeep broke & I wasn't sure how I was going to fix it but this seems like a good idea.

It seemed like it worked well but the plastic was too smooth and it fell off again after a day. I tried a second time and ruffed it up with sandpaper and used a lot more, but then the toothpick got stuck to it and i ripped it out again. If you are careful and use a decent amount you may be lucky. Superglue may be another alternative.

Thanks, I may also use a hot nail to melt the pieces together as a tack weld type of deal & then glue it.

NickInTimeFilms Hey, another question. I'm working on the front wipers now. My wipers only worked in the off position at slow speed. I tested the connection just before the front motor and everything seemed to work just fine. So I thought it was a safe assumption that the motor was bad. I got a new one, plugged it in buttoned it up and flipped it on & nothing (even in the off position). I pulled the cowl off and tested the connection again & nothing anywhere. Fuses & relays are fine. Fuse panel has power. Intermittent regulator box thing has no power. I found that the previous owner spliced the two park cables to a direct hot line, no clue why but maybe that explains why it only worked in the off position at slow. It was probably just parking over and over. So I respliced the lines as they should be but no change.
      So here are my thoughts:
      1. The steering whell is not stock so maybe the switch isn't connected/properly & not delivering power as it should be. I don't think this is the problem or I wouldn't have had power up front to begin with.
      2. The cables behind the fuse panel came loose while I was splicing the lines (I had to tug them a bit to get enough cable). This might explain why I have no power on either side of the fuse panel.
      3. Bad source or ground. I would assume it is not ground because it's grounded through the body. So maybe the source? I haven't been able to track down where that's supposed to come in from.
Any thoughts advice? I can't find any forums or videos about this problem, it's all just how to diagnose and switch the motor.

Andrew Roby It sounds like you just got you're self in deep. Jeep electrical is one of my least favorite things to try and figure out with the lack of good info and terrible wiring.
From what it sounds like, your motor should be ok. If it moves with little hesitation then it is probably a controller or switch issue. I haven't had to mess with my front wipers at all luckily. What I do know is the wiper controller under the lower dash panel will cause all kinds of strange issues if it doesn't get plugged in properly.
      1. An aftermarket steering wheel won't affect much if the steering column is still stock. If you still have the stock wiper stalk and wiring then that's good, but there is a chance it got messed with to fit the new wheel. If you can verify down the line that that switch has proper continuity or resistance to the wiper controller then that rules out the switch.
      2. When you say no power on either side of the fuse box, are you saying that nothing in the jeep works now? Not sure what year you have but maybe check to see if you dislodged your main connector that connects to the fuse block. That is always known to have connection issues.
      3. A bad ground could cause issues for sure. The cherokees have a particular dash ground to check on. It's hard to see because it's behind the lower dash panel. If you crawl on the floor and look straight up from underneath, towards the door you will see a small screw and a wire or two. Thats the big important ground. If you check my "wiring up the eaton e-lockers" video around 10:30, you will see the work i did to that spot.
From what I'm reading, you'll need to get your fusebox back to working order and then trace out everything going to you're wiper controller. If there is some hack wiring job going to it, that's probably you're issue. When I got my Jeep there was a hack job for the electric cooling fan. After putting it back to stock i found that it didn't work which was no surprise. I had a shot relay, now it came on with A/C. My radiator was full of stop leak so the temp switch never got hot enough to turn on the relay. New rad and switch fixed all that nonsense. My suggestion is to find a good wiring diagram for your year jeep and check to see if all the wires check out. I feel like a messed up wiring, a relay/fuse, or even wiper controller is your culprit. Let me know what you find out.

More like I got myself in Jeep lol.
I'm sure the motor is OK, it's brand new... unless I fried it right after I put it in :/
I tried moving the blades and they didn't want to budge at all.
At one point after I put in the new motor I think I moved the intermittent control box thing & I heard a noise that sounded like the wipers kicking on but as soon as I looked up it sopped so I can't be sure. I fiddled with it for a half hour and couldn't get it to happen again.
The steering wheel is a few years older I think but it has a black wire running out of the wand down into the steering column. I'm not sure if that is for the wipers or the cruise control (they are on the same wand) but it leads to a connector that splits off to four wires (two hot). I tried tracing the wires further but they go behind the fuse panel.
Well the intermittent wiper relay (the black box with the Velcro) is "new" (guaranteed to work anyway) so I'm pretty sure that isn't it. That should only affect the intermittent speeds though. Either way I have no power on either side/connection.
I tested all of the relays I could find & they are all working.
What I meant by "no power on either side of the fuse box" is I have power at the fuse but not at the intermittent box (the next step before the steering wheel) and no power at the motor (the next step forward of the fuse box). All of my other electrics are working (minus a few preexisting conditions).
Could it be that blue circuit breaker? I think that controls the front wipers and the washer (that also doesn't work). Do you know how to test that? I pulled it out and tested the prongs and two of them have power & when I plugged it in it buzzed before it clicked in all the way.
