I beleive Samsung is going to release some type of on-demand Chat-GPT competitor that connects to a sever and causes for a subscription model (look at the chat-GPT model for example) that they will charge for, not the AI on-device phone features that are able to be done directly with the chipset capabilities. I don't think Samsung is so out of the loop they will just charge for standard features that all OEMs including apple will most likely provide for free when adopted. That's like saying Siri is free for 1 year after iOS 18, but then you gotta pay to use Siri on your device. It wouldn't happen. However, if Siri comes out with some type of generative AI that competes more with Chat-GPT and requires server maintenance, I could see that being free for 1 year and then charging (such as satellite phone connectivity tech)

AI is what I'm least interested in. I'll probably spend most of my time initially turning all that off as much as I can. The first thing I've done since Bixby was introduced was disabling the settings to include the awful Bixby button when that was a thing.
The Bixby button was great for remapping. Long hold for flashlight, double press and hold for screenshot, one press for back. It's one of the reasons I have a hard time letting go of my S10+.
Just waiting for the price of the S23 Ultra to drop even further.

As much as I love my galaxy. If this happens, I’m going back the pixel line. Subscriptions just don’t sit right with me.
We people already pay for subscriptions to use AI because these things uses servers with expensive GPUs and power to generate images, text ... (Stable Diffusion, OpenAI, Midjourney, Rytr, Jasper, Frase, ... To name few) I see nothing wrong with that, the only special thing in here is that Samsung being one of the first major companies to integrate AI in the mobile industry.
Oh and you only pay for the cloud based AI features like Live Translate, Note Assist in Samsung Notes, and Chat Assist, so the AI features that gets processed in the phone (without needing the cloud or internet) are free of course, like edit suggestions and translation tools.
The people who complained about longer software support are the same people to complain when the battery doesn't last over the same period of time and have to pay a small fee to get it replaced so the end complaining even more that they upgraded to a new phone
Trade ins with my carrier are great. Going to trade in my S21 Ultra and most likely pay 400-500 for the s24 ultra. If the AI is useful for content purposes than they'll for sure have an audience for it. I've been with Samsung since the S9 and I'm happy with my upgrades every time.

I might go with my carrier but I really want the 1Tb and year after year you can only get that through Samsung -- although this year you pay for the 512 Gb and get the 1Tb. Last year they only went up to 256Gb->512Gb. As for the subscription AI that some are is complaining about , it is only the cloud-based AI that they would be subscribing to and after two years. Much of the AI is onboard, including much of the foreign language translation.

@@KrypteiaXi Just about all of the AI I will be interested in will likely be onboard and won't require a subscription. Still, I might like playing with some of the cloud-based services and I will be able to do that for free for two years. That seems generous on their part, and it will give me the chance to decide whether those additional services are worth it to me. More than enough time to decide whether they are worth a few dollars a month.
Sounds more like a remixed s23 ultra. And that pay wall noise is ridiculous. I always tend to wait a few years until they do a "real" upgrade, I suggest yall do the same, if you have the s23 ultra that is

If that is your thing, go ahead. I am not leaking my personal infos, and it's the very reason why I avoided iphone as I don't have a plan to be trapped in its suffocating system. If our phone is not strong enough to process AI, then IDK why they have to provide faster processing cores. For me, it's not justified enough to pay for humongous money.

I don't like how Samsung increased the price in the US on the Ultra after it was said there wouldn't be a price increase. The Ultra is 1299 vs 1199 and the trade in value is only $750.
There's actually 7 colors, 3 are exclusive on samsung.
giving you a little bit for free or cheap until you are hooked and then raising the price is a drug dealer tactic.
The only thing I care about is the flat display. I wish the s23 ultra was flat. Ill be sticking with s23 though until 25 or 26. Definitely sick of these curved displays though. S23 ultra is the best phone i have ever owned though. Its a beast.

One thing to remember some ai features are built into the phone no internet needed and some are cloud based meaning you need a internet connection

I have an S22U, and I think I'll keep it another year. Hopefully they go back to 10x, and bump the 3x to 50mp, with the same camera tech on all cameras in the suite. I'll probably get a samsung tablet, first.
I did three physical sims to e sim on Verizon. Took me two and a half hours. The people at Verizon said this is by far the most difficult phone to activate. That would be the Apple 15. I don't know how years and years go by and companies get away with making things worse. The definition of insanity if you ask me

Samsung is not being specific about charging for the ai but it’s believed to be for the ai features that are cloud based features but they put it in the fine print and weren’t very transparent and thank your the only one I’ve seen so far that I have seen mention it.

I love my S22U, and the battery is still good. I wouldn't be getting the S24U for AI because I've never used AI, and I have no interest in it. I would be getting it simply for the new software, battery, and slightly better camera upgrade from S22U. I already signed up for the 50 bucks but I'm really thinking about upgrading. Ugh!

Microsoft just did it with Co pilot. Launched as free with 'credits' now is 20 bucks a month. Games went from free or pay once to subscription model. I don't think they'll have an issue.

if the chip is what enables the ai, then those features shouldn't be paywalled, but i would understand models that aren't the S series to have the option to pay to have those ai features which would be processed in the cloud, that way it also builds a better incentive to upgrade to the S series

@@william_SMMA nah, they are going to leverage galaxy AI as the main feature of the phone. Pixel has had tons of AI features that you pay for, but you get those features through a Google photos sub.... If you don't own a pixel. If you own a pixel those features are included with the device at no charge. These features include magic eraser and even VPN.
Tech gets better and it's gotten to the point where AI now is extremely capable, that's awesome. So now this means we have to pay for access to those features now? Does everything have to slowly become a subscription?

The no satellite connection and the battery are what's rubbing me wrong way along with the AI subscription for the S24 Ultra. Trying to determine if I'm going to get the 24 Ultra, wait for iphone 16 to come out or get Iphone 15 pro max. Currently have a Samsung galaxy note10 plus. Honestly I don't think that they are going to make us pay. They would lose a LOT of customers. I think, if anything, that they would quicker implement a tier system. But even that is very unlikely. Especially for a phone that people have been waiting for. TBR I'll stay Samsung loyal. I use an iPhone 13 for work and I hate the thing. I keep trying with Apple and I hate it each time.

I wonder if the rumored subscription would result in the flagship phones being subsidized. So, instead of owning the phone, you would "rent" it as part of the subscription for the AI capabilites and upgrade to the newer model every 1, 2, or 3 years.
If there is a paywall coming into play I may re consider an update if you pay for a premium phone with new features you should not have to lose those feature because they are greedy ive been a samsung user for a long time this needs to be advised before buying as legal trouble will come otherwise.
That point is wrong. If Samsung states that the first year is free and then they will charge then sensible people know what they are buying and understand it and will buy or not. It is like 3 months free with Netflix when you buy a new phone. If you want Samsung AI you cannot expect a free ride as it will cost Samsung billions.

Im actually not interested in AI features so far. So I'm hoping I won't use them enough to get used to them. I'd rather see them focus on beefing up the battery and give us satellite connection and increase video stability. So many things are more important than AI to me. With that said... I had to grab the Black 512g S24 Ultra. However, I ain't paying for AI or Cloud Storage.
I've only used 30% of my storage on my S22 Ultra that I've had since release date.
I'm 100% in Samsung Ecosystem with the S3 Frontier Watch, 5 Pro Titanium Watch & the Tab S7+.

Depends on the price. Google has a similar offering with their photo features and I don't mind paying $3 for the features, access to a VPN, and extra storage. If theyre giving you the chance to try it for the remainder of 2024 you can decide if its worth it. Samsung probably views it as a valuable feature and we can't argue that.....how much they decide to charge is another question. I want the 23 Ultra so I honestly dont care lol, just my opinion CJ.
I just pulled the trigger on the S24U - trading in my S23U. Yes, I'm willing to pay for features that are valuable to me, but that's just me. The live translation alone is invaluable to me. I'm learning to speak Spanish and Korean. I travel to Central and South America regularly. I want to relocate to Colombia and/or Panama by the end of this year.
I agree on the AI payments. I understand buying a siftware like you do with a desktop. Like adobe etc etc. But thats a flat rate. I could understand that. But a reoccurring payment subscription for AI? Thats crazy asf imo. But thats in 2025 and alot can change by then.

It depends on how good the Galaxy A.I. is.
If Samsung's image generation is on or close to the level of Midjourney and Dall-E then I have no problem with it being a subscription. ESPECIALLY if it doesn't have the crazy restrictions that those models have.

I expected a subscription model I love Samsung will always have a Samsung phone but let’s be real they’re losing market share to apple. They’ve taken away everything loyal Samsung android users like about android it’s not as open as it used to be. Young ppl mainly get iPhones elderly ppl mainly get iPhones so they have to figure out how to stay in the game or end up like dare I say it blackberry or LG.

You are completely right about this. But this AI magic is coming from Google. Even the 100$ price increase on the Ultra won't be enough to pay for the deal that Samsung must have struck with Google.
I'm not happy about it but I actually always been on the position that Google should sell their software products. People have been porting the Google Camera on all sort of phones that had the Snapdragon chip and possibly the Exynos when they could.
We want the Google magic without buying the Pixel line up... I don't know how people will react, but it is business. Maybe you have used it enough to know you want it and are willing to pay for it.

A feature hidden a paywall is a total nope for me. Just yesterday I was hyped, 100% sure to sell my 14 pro max to get the S24 Ultra. This definitely will make me keep my phone current phone.

Get use to it as businesses have to make money, MS is already doing it, Samsung will, and I am sure Apple and Google will follow, though Google may only include AI in its Pro model instead. You cannot freeload all the time!

I was looking forward to trading in my S23U toward an S24U, but if it turns out there's a subscription involved -- I'm out.
I don't mind annual updates. But Samsung didn't max out yet. They need to offer more. They can give us a Z Fold 6 Ultra and put S24 Ultra Cameras in there and a 6000 mAh battery 🔋 in there and a Drawing Cartoon app collaboration with better Collaboration with Microsoft and then after that just change the looks and do small to decent updates after that. But they maxing out and the numbers aren't maxed.
That means I'll not get to use AI on my s25 ultra?
The Essential phone was a titanium phone. So if we are gonna be honest here. Android did it first.

I thought I had heard that all phones were going to get AI features. Maybe I misunderstood. But the question will still lay on how much and what's the benefits are.
