What is the Third Temple? This mysterious, ancient site in Jerusalem might be the catalyst for world war, writes UnHerd's Giles Fraser. This week he joined Florence Read to take a deep dive into the religious history and precarious future of the Temple Mount.

I was homeless, got into drugs, went into prisons, then i got to know Jesus, He changed my life.. Now i make 22k weekly. have a home, a wife, a lovely daughter... A child of God. HALLELUJAH!❤
How did you do it? Do explain please 😯
My family have been into series of sufferings lately
All thanks to Christina Ann Tucker
After I raised up to 325k trading with her I bought a new House and a car here in the states 🇺🇸🇺🇸 also paid for my daughter's surgery (Joey). Glory to God.shalom.
I do know Christina A. Tucker, I also have even become successful....
Absolutely! I've heard stories of people who started with little to no knowledge but made it out victoriously thanks to Christina Ann Tucker.
lol, trump saying god saved him from the bullet is a pretty normal thing to say if you are religious. I am not at all, but pretending this is a trump arrogance thing is so stupid
You believe Trump is religious??? 😂
@@notafantbh I believe Trump believes god saved him. Would you not? Given that situation?
Exactly. In fact we are the historical oddity, a society of atheists and antitheists.
@@hazchemel And look how it's working out for us. I've been an atheist for 20 years. All it's ever brought me is bitterness, nihilism, and lonliness.
Yes i was supriced he bashed trump for that while obviously being for kamala
A Brit criticizing American religion, it is the 1700s again. And we fought a war over it. Apparently, it still hasn't been enough to smack away the smugness.
Your comment made me laugh, Nylon_riot. Fraser is Fraser, he certainly doesn't represent the majority of Brits. I'm a Canadian who loves America and Britain. Please don't even think about starting another war with Britain. The last time you did that you invaded Canada. If Trump is elected that won't happen. We know from his first term that he doesn't like starting wars.
I'm not British either. I'm nearly to the end but I've heard no criticism of American religion
Oops, got there. I actually found Trump's statement humble not arrogant. But unlike Britain, Trump is rather popular in my country.
You think American colonists fought a war to achieve religious freedom? Really? So the Pilgrim Fathers didn't leave England because they couldn't tolerate the king's tolerance of the Catholics alongside the protestants?
Most Americans during that period were English, cobber.
Prophecy is being fulfilled. All of this has been foretold and we are witnessing it happen
I was enthralled until the rant about Trump, which could easily have been edited out.
Trump is literally Hitler 😶
Agreed, I cannot see how the US has any choice, other than Trump, who at least acknowledges God, as opposed to his obviously Atheist opponant.
I watch UK current affairs programmes using my VPN. Their culture is unbelievably trammelled by state promoted narratives.
It's the water they swim in.
The assertion we are rapidly approaching ecological catastrophy and Orange Man Bad is just assumed, taken as read.
She’s almost got it… the story of Abraham says they have to sacrifice the Temple, in order to keep it. Let it go, and keep God.
Would you say that Christians were more respectful of a former Muslim Mosque location if they built a Christian Cathedral on top of the site? Turning the cathedral in Byzantium into a Mosque was also a sign of respect, was it? The suicidal attitude of our Western Liberal inteligência is staggering.
Great point! The 'pastor' couldn't wait to denigrate his political opposition, I noticed.
That’s not what he was saying. The Christian pilgrims were hacking pieces off the stone projection where the Holy of Holies stood, so they could have relics for their cathedrals. The building of Al Aksa at least stopped that practice and made the site “holy” again. Just holy to a different god, but it did bring an end to the destruction of the site,
The Christian God is beyond tribe, place, symbols, and objects, beyond idolatry.
Spain IS full of churches built on (partially or in their entirety) the remains of mosques. 🤷 Part of History, not a big deal.

Just Build the temple alright. Those Muslims have so many “holy” sights. Also, they owe us a holy sight: Constantinople. Totally holy, I say.
Peace on Earth sounds rather ominous like after a catastrophe when everybody died
We each have The Temple of God. The Temple shines within, when love and forgiveness is given by each of us. That is why Forgiveness is the key to world peace. We forgive our families, our neighbours, our friends as we return our Love and Respect back to God. Be at peace to you one and all ❤❤❤
And repentance
Amen
It's kind of amusing how uneven the conversation around it is.
For one side its like: this is the history, this is the religious dogma, this is the political situation, these are the factions and these are the actors that may result in religious war that nobody wants.
Meanwhile, the other side is being treated as a force a nature. Just accept they will all go to a worldwide homicidal rage and blow everything up if you dare disrespect the site they built while desecrating the site of the first group.

Where do you get your information from regarding geopolitics? I suspect it might not be the best source 😂

Their sons play football on the site, while the Jews aren't allowed to pray there.
What absolutely ridiculous nonsense.
“God is summoned into this place”
What an absurd thing to say. Nobody summons God. He makes up his own mind , otherwise he isn’t God !

Al Aksa mosque was built 60 years after the death of Mohamed, he never went there, the actual Aksa mosque is in Taif in Saudi Arabia.
I guess he was too busy fiddling with 9 year olds.
Your confusing theology and materialist explanation, the exodus never happened yet it’s in Bible.
@@dr.virtuosoExodus never happened? Any evidences?
@@dr.virtuoso I am discussing actual theology, Al Aksa was called so because the Umayyid Caliph at the time had lost control over Mekka to a rebel leader, and since he was afraid that people will go to him since he controls the holy sites, he decided to build the mosque in Jerusalem and name it Al Aksa after the name of the mosque that supposedly Mohamed visited ascending to heavens on a mystical persian creature. Al Aksa means the furthest as opposed to the nearest in Mekka, and its place is in Al Taif in Saudi Arabia, it had nothing to do with Jerusalem.
@@kulkrafts3143 there is zero archeological evidence for the exodus
But who’s trying To achieve this by violence? He only talked about the Messianic aims of the American protestants and not that they’ve been conned by kabbalists for a very long time. Freemasonry - its entire schtick and purpose was the 3rd Temple.
Daniel Pipes, the director of the Middle East Forum, wrote a 2001 report on "The Muslim Claim to Jerusalem" which corrects the exaggerated claims that Fraser makes as to the importance of Jerusalem in the Moslem faith. The title of this episode is pure click-bait as Fraser never establishes convincingly that the move to build a third temple is likely to lead to WW3 in the conceivable future. Why isn't UnHerd more concerned about the Russo-Ukrainian War leading to WW3. I don't understand UnHerd at all.
Fraser's TDS-induced venom against Donald Trump seems remarkably unchristian, especially given that he is an Anglican prelate. I notice from the comments a lot of other readers thought the same as me.
This is, by far, the worst Unherd discussion I have seen. Giles Fraser made factual error after factual error - other comments have already mentioned these.

Lots of wrong information from Giles I'm sorry to say. The Judeo-Christian God, the God of the bible, does not require a 'sacrifice for life' that is totally unbiblical and maligns the character of God, the Abraham account has far more spiritual and deeper meaning. God takes no pleasure in sacrifices and He certainly does not advocate violence.
Jewish people do go up to the Temple Mount, also some orthodox, certain areas of the Mount are believed to be where the Holy of Holies may have been so some Jews choose not to tread on that area, but Jews do go up to the Temple Mount.
The Lord's Supper, was actually a Seder, a Passover meal, as Jesus (or Yeshua His Name in Hebrew) was crucified by the Romans at the behest of the Jewish leaders at Passover. The Lord's Supper (the seder) is done as a memorial for what Christ did and in rememberance that He will come again as prophesied in scripture. His sacrifice on the cross was one time and for all who would believe, He's not sacrificed over and over as the Eucharist teaches.
Also, many Jewish peopole, in Israel and the world over, have come, and are coming, to faith in their Jewish Messiah, Yeshua/Jesus, they are often referred to as 'Messianic believers'. I think this conversation with Giles is most unfortunate as it paints a totally lopsided and misinformed view of Israel and the Jewish people as well as the current war. Not sure how he comes up with the idea of a WWIII. Most unfortunate conversation from UNHERD. ☹

It will be interesting if they ever manage to call for God... cause they are going to be dissappointed to realise there is no God... not even one they don't believe in. Would be amusing if it were Charles Darwin that appeared.

@theoutsider6191 Is this the silly science versus religion argument again? Even though it was the Catholics' invented science? A human construct that is only good for 5 minutes until it is either proven or disproven, usually disproven. It is just a magic trick. Just like the genetic revolution not only didn't answer any questions, but demonstrated we don't know anything at all and pit Darwin back on the chopping block.
Secularism is an invention of zionists to make people dependent on the state. Which is why they beg the state to fix everything. Sound familiar? Funny how that works.

beneath said Mosque is a Freemasonic temple...
is that a religion or Satan's representative.
What Fraser leaves out is the theological underpinnings of the demise of the Jerusalem temple in AD70. The Christian explanation was that it happened as God's punishment of the Jews for the killing of their Messiah, called Jesus. Hence we understand historically that not only Rabbinical Judaism but also the religion of Christianity arose at that time. There were no believers in Jesus before AD70 but many afterwards.

The temple can be anyone that has got an open heart….but we are not an island - we are still encouraged to gather! It said to pray OUR FATHER….for a reason. if If you call yourself a Christian you may go to church, if you are a Jew you may go to the synagogue…etc……In one hand is personal and in the other hand is congregational!

Philosophically we Catholics see the Temple as model of the Cosmos - all of Creation is ordered to sacrifice - all of Creation is ordered it's Creator - Christus vincit +.
Quick question: how was building a mosque on the site of the Jewish temple "respectful"? Make that make sense.
There is nothing in Scripture about the rebuilding of a third Jewish temple on the Temple Mount!
When Revelation speaks of a temple, it is always referring to "the temple of heaven." Revelation 16: 17.
And when Paul wrote about the Antichrist entering the temple of God, he was talking about entering the Church!
If certain people who reject the final sacrifice of Jesus Christ ever do rebuild a third temple on the temple mount inside Jerusalem,it definitely will not be "the temple of God"
Both Matthew 24:15 and 2 Thess 2:4 refer to a holy place/temple in Jerusalem during the end times.
Daniel 9:27, Daniel 12:5-13
@@joshuamatondo8184 2 Thessalonians 2
Verse 4-“Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” Paul did not say, as so many believe, that Antichrist will walk into a temple and say, “I am God.” Rather, he would sit “as God ... shewing himself that he is God.” The difference is subtle, yet very important. The Antichrist will not “say it,” for this would be too obvious. Yet he will “show it” by his actions.
The Antichrist will “sit.” This does not mean he will “sit down” on some chair. In the language of the Bible, to “sit” means to sit in a position of authority. Jesus Christ now “sits” at the right hand of God (Mark 16:19). He is our supreme authority, the only Mediator between God and men (1 Timothy 2:5). According to Paul, the Antichrist will also deceptively “sit” in a position of authority. Yet this “sitting” will actually be in opposition to the supreme authority of Jesus Christ!
Antichrist will even “sit in the temple of God.” Here is the key text! Millions of sincere Christians, apply this to a rebuilt third Jewish temple in Jerusalem. But is that right? Think about it Let’s say that a group of Jewish people, who do not believe in the great sacrifice of Jesus Christ, were to rebuild a third temple on the Temple Mount. Could that temple ever really be called “the temple of God”? No! For that temple would be in itself a denial of Jesus Christ! Notice what the famous Christian commentator Adam Clarke had to say about Paul’s words: “By the temple of God the apostle could not well mean the temple of Jerusalem; because that, he knew, would be destroyed within a few years. After the death of Christ the temple of Jerusalem is never called by the apostles the temple of God."
The Greek word Paul used here for “temple” is “naos.” The truth about the temple is that every time Paul used the word “naos” in his letters, he always applied it NOT to a building in Jerusalem, but to the church! Paul wrote to “the church of God which is at Corinth,” saying, “Know ye not that ye are the temple [“naos”] of God?” 1 Corinthians 1:2; 3:16. (See also 2 Corinthians 6:16; Ephesians 2:19-22.) Thus, to Paul, “the temple of God” is the Christian Church! “Under the gospel dispensation, the temple of God is the Church of Christ.” And this is where Antichrist will sit! He will deceptively enter the Church, like Judas, who was one of the twelve! Then he will “sit” in a position of supreme, apparently infallible authority, which will ever so subtly counterfeit the supreme authority of Jesus Christ!
If you were the devil, wouldn’t you try to do the same thing? You wouldn’t spend most of your time hanging out in a bar. Your goal would be to try and deceive Christians! If you were Satan, wouldn’t you want to sneak into the Church, get behind the pulpit, and then preach a sermon? (See Acts 20:28-31; 1 Timothy 4:1; 2 Timothy 4:3, 4.) This is exactly what Paul says the Antichrist will do! He will cleverly enter the temple of God, which is the Christian Church, and then he will “sit” in a position of apparently supreme authority as he makes pronouncements on matters of Christian doctrine.

So respectful they built a mosque on top of it. Probably best to ask followers of Judaism for their thoughts on this. Is there evidence that the Muslim prophet actually went there (and died there) or is it a spurious claim

Nobody says anything about demography, the key to understand the changes in Israeli society and politics. Otherwise it all appears to be a coincidence or a mistake.
Three perfect red heffers were bred by a Jewish farmer in Texas and flown over to Israel earlier this year, according to one story I read. The sacrificial stage had also been built, and rumor had it that the heffers were sacrificed just before Passover. The story is also linked to astrology, because this year's total solar eclipse passed over the Texas town.
Hear ye, hear ye, friends and Romans, countrymen
Hear ye, hear ye, punks and skins and journeymen
Hear ye, hear ye, my sisters and my brethren
The time is coming near
Come ye, come ye, to soulless corporate circus tops
Come ye, come ye, to toilet circuit touring snobs
Come ye, come ye, to bedrooms, bars and bunker squats
The sound is ringing clear
Now who'd have thought that after all
Something as simple as rock 'n' roll would save us all
Now who'd have thought that after all, it was rock 'n' roll
Hear ye, hear ye, now anybody could take this stage
Hear ye, hear ye, and make miracles for minimum wage
Hear ye, hear ye, these folk songs for the modern age
Will hold us in their arms
Right here, right now, Elvis brings his children home
Right here, right now, you never have to feel alone
Right here, right now, teenage kicks and gramophones
We hold them in our hearts
Now who'd have thought that after all
Something as simple as rock 'n' roll would save us all
Now who'd have thought that after all, it was rock 'n' roll
And I still believe (I still believe) in the saints
Yeah, in Jerry Lee and in Johnny and all the greats
And I still believe (I still believe) in the sound
That has the power to raise a temple and tear it down
And I still believe (I still believe) in the need
For guitars and drums and desperate poetry
And I still believe (I still believe) that everyone
Can find a song for every time they've lost
And every time they've won
So just remember, folks, we're not just saving lives, we're saving souls
And we're having fun
And I still believe
Now who'd have thought that after all
Something as simple as rock 'n' roll would save us all
Now who'd have thought that after all
Something so simple, something so small
Who'd have thought that after all, it's rock 'n' roll

Well done, interesting topic. . .I’m puzzled for the nearly absence of consideration of the other side of the story. For example….There was no mention about Islam eschatology and all the blame seemed to be place on one side. Violence, fighting and politic won’t certainly be what usher in the Messiah….but , hey how do we desperately needs Him to come!
To go back further... "An ancient Semitic tradition stated that the bare rock atop the mount was held in the mouth of the serpent Tahum, and that this place was the intersection of the underworld and the upper world. It was also considered to be the site where Abraham had built an altar on which he prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac."

great programme, really enjoyed it. as a reasonably intelligent modern Christian i feel quite conflicted by this whole issue (thoughts ranging from "bunch of nut cases on both sides", to "yeah but Jesus and that"). Cant they just build the 3rd temple above the dome on the rock? like on steel stilts or something, its not even got to hold loads of weight as no ones allowed in there hardly, and it would also symbolically honor the Muslim belief that Mohammed went up to be with God. cracked it, peace in the middle east achieved. one off my bucket list

It's not American Evangelicals you need to worry about. It's the Bible you need to worry about. One should always give the most generous interpretation. My mother taught me to " give people the benefit of any doubt". Calling Trump barking mad is not very generous. I think it's a reasonable position for him to say God spared him. If so why?
….I think best scholarship has decided that the site of Solomon’s Temple was/is down the hill some way in the city of David and that the great flat plinth where the mosque is situated is Fort Anthony where the Romans garrisoned their legions….certainly the garrison needs to be located somewhere and at elevation seems sensible and nor can the temple be where the garrison is since they were contemporaneous and in AD 70 the Roman soldiery - who had to live somewhere - poured forth from that somewhere in order to destroy the temple…
I'm all for rebuilding The Temple. Why not? If it works and there is peace on Earth... Good if not. Then we know once and for all.

I strongly object to the characterisation of religious fundamentalists as "right wing".
Religion is as far left as a society can get. The authoritarianism of fundamental political systems like Fascism, Marxism, and National Socialism could only become acceptable after the principle that God's domain had fallen was widely accepted.
Political authoritarian totalitarianism is the source of authority left behind after God has been abandoned.
Faith in another world that can be achieved here on earth without the governing constraint of a God is what we call "leftist".

Rev Fraser has great knowledge, there is no doubt about that. But regrettably he is also so misleading and misrepresenting here. Ben Gvir does not want to blow up the mosques and there is no mainstream position in religious Zionism that advocates such a thing. It is misleading videos like this that can cause WW3, much more so than that what is actually happening. UnHerd is great but Rev Fraser's interpretation and understanding of Israeli politics and contemporary religion, while very impressive, is lacking an understanding of the nuances.
Fairy tales bring the destruction of mankind....how appropriate.
Jesus's could never be the messiah for Jews because he was never a saviour for them since millions of Jews were killed in his name.
It’s also the site where Mohammed ascended into heaven, so it’s a very holy place for Muslims as well. I’m just hearing a lot about Judaic beliefs, a very brief mention of how it’s holy to Muslims. The Roman’s just decided to destroy it? Why was that? Cherry picking going on here.
“There are those who wish to ‘knock it down’ so casually mentioned. This was a statement that was beyond the pale not long ago. Now it’s being mentioned as if it’s a rational decision. Chuckling about zealots who want “hurry things along.” redemption??? This is an apologia for zealotry. Quoting the Bible for political moves. The red cows were imported from America. Such a lot left out here. If the goal here was objectivity, it is a giant fail.
Christians, or at least Protestants, don't worship places, tribes, and things.
Is that the one where Mohammed flew to Jerusalem during the night on a flying donkey monster ?
It’s all getting a bit Life of Brian … time to get my Armageddon drugs stash sorted
It’s not the Wailing Wall - it is the Western Wall
Look at it this way Giles, it's Trump or Klaus Schwab and Yuval Harrari. I'll take Trump and you should too. ❤✝️🇨🇦
All Jews long for the temple? Really? 4:16
Interesting! Thank you.
Please Invite Amir Tsarfati a well known Jew who know better and also explain better all this...
Please don't
That people are so obsessed with land lost 2000 years ago are so annoying
Complex situation handled with plenty sensationalism and not a whole lot of objectivity or impartiality.
read a book
@@blueeyes402 😂
I will build it in 3 days
How about letting god exsist without traping him in a temple? It's all a bit silly is it not?...except that people will kill over it.
Then Temple has to be rebuilt
True.
Unless west steps up and steps in.
More tolerance and less Radicals … live and let live … if god exists he would be starting to build an ark and start all over again …
