Tracking of Kin was predominantly done at guitarist Zach Householder’s home studio with producer Mark Lewis producing his fifth straight Whitechapel album, making for a very comfortable working environment. “Creating records with him has an effortless flow to it, and we can track things pretty quickly and efficiently these days,” says Wade. “Mark has a great ear for giving us unique and complementary guitar and drum tones for the songs we are trying to record.” The tracks were then sent off to David Castillo at Ghostward Studios in Sweden for mixing, with Ted Jensen mastering it in Nashville, TN. Now, having another album they can be as proud of as its predecessor, it stands them in good stead as they look toward the future. “I see more growth and a limitless potential,” says Wade. “I think we found a great formula on ‘The Valley’, and we used that to create another monumental record for our career that I can’t wait for people to hear. We hope to continue to grow our fanbase with this new album, and always seek to move in a positive direction. I’m excited as the pandemic lessens for the touring world to come back to life and to be able to perform these massive songs we have created in the manner they were meant to be heard - live and loud.”
Whitechapel line-up:
Phil Bozeman - vocals
Ben Savage - guitar
Alex Wade - guitar
Gabe Crisp - bass
Zach Householder - guitar
Alex Rüdinger - drums
LYRICS:
It’s just the way it is
How did I find myself to be so pitiful and vulnerable
And I lay my head upon an empty heartbeat
I’m alone and I’m miserable
It’s just the way that it is and it’s hopeless now
I’ll never leave the prison inside my head
No one will ever understand the way it feels
To shut out the emotion that drives me back to you
Is that your voice that I hear
Is that the touch that I had once feared
Is that the way that you look now
Is this what we are
Cynical ole me, beckoning for company
An illusion that I dream of in a nightmare
What do I care if you’re here and there’s nothing left
Inside of your hollow shell
I’m still alone, I’m still miserable
Is there hope somewhere in this case of flesh we call our home
I don’t feel it
Mother, father please go back to sleep
I can’t bare to see you barely alive
We’re all alone, we’re all miserable
Forget my voice
Forget my eyes
My heart is content now to betray my insides

Bands like Whitechapel scare the Grammys 🤷♂️ in a real world, rap music would be non existent and would never compete with Metal
I couldnt agree more. Whitechapel deserves more wide recognition and some fucking awards for their last album and this album is gonna be a masterpiece
That’s heavy.
@@margashelby1083 wow nice song i love it
@@margashelby1083 omg nice black metal song!!!!
I love that Whitechapel dosen't make every song of theirs deathcore. More bands should ignore genres and just make music.
Exactly!
Plenty of bands do this.
Finally man, I need to hear someone day that
Whitechapel stopped being death core like right after the second album
@@Weloveyoupyrex After the 2nd album? A New Era of Corruption, self titled, Our Endless War...those album's aren't deathcore? Lol. Even Mark of the Blade and The Valley are both deathcore album's, they just incorporate alot more melody into their music now.
I know some metal fans get pissed when bands make these songs. But Phil has a gift that would be a shame to hide. I am so glad they can hit hard with there songs then put out one like this. Love this band and Phil is one of the best.
@Noise Injection That would be the purpose for the word "some". I didn't say all or even many.
I actually love these guys because a lot of their music has so much emotion and darkness in it and some of it hits hard. Songs like this still make you want to headbang just not as hard lol
These kinds of songs on the last album were actually my gateway into Whitechapel. I could never really get into them before (which is odd given my love for metal), but when I first experienced the journey that When a Demon Defiles a Witch took me on, I realized I'd been missing out on a killer band.
@@TylertheGeek28 Yeah, my brain is already f'd up from headbanging.
I’m more confused than angry.
Being a fan since the somatic defilement album, I’m shocked that this is the Phil Bozeman that I saw at warped tour in 2010. This is fucking impressive, I don’t know why they didn’t put cleans in a song any sooner. God damn, sing it to em phil!
This is a true masterpiece. It is incredible to see how far they've come as a band. Phil is a vocal monster, everyone who ever doubted him - watch and listen to this again. 12/10.
Love your vidoes man!
I really don't like these softer songs... I wouldn't call it progress. More mutation to the main stream acceptance. Alienating the fans that got them where they are today.
@@adamtravis9933 maybe they got bored of doing literally the exact same chuggy chuggy chug music with super guttural the entire way through ? They testing new shit they haven’t done already
@@adamtravis9933 just cus theres singing doesnt mean its mainstream. You people are a joke
Their newer albums are focusing on the bands lives, from the moment of birth to now and all their experiences, at least that is what I think, I know a few songs were based on Phil's childhood and depression
Phil is really expanding his vocals even after years of him showcasing his cleans and that really says how good he is, on the level of Maynard or Corey Taylor
He reminds me quite a bit of Corey in his vocal range and of Maynard in his vocal sound. And that's high praise from me, considering that those two are men I believe to be the best voices in metal today.
He can definitely sing. But there's a handful of vocalists that have put him to shame
@@Tmoney445 Considering if you go listen to his vocals on Somatic Defilement you would never ever think this would be what they sound like now.
@@Tmoney445 there is almost always someone better, that doesn't mean he isn't really good.
Corey Taylor is not a good vocalist..
I lost my father recently on September 16th, 2021. He was sick for more than 6 years. When this song came out, it hit me a lot. I am also a metal vocalist from India, and Whitechapel and Phil Bozeman had been one of my biggest inspirations ever. I just want to thank you guys for composing such a masterpiece, and Phil this is for you, you as a person saved me from hell, so thank you for everything that you have done, you're the best vocalist and one of the best human beings to have ever been born. May you and everyone in Whitechapel have long and successful lives and may you achieve greatness even greater than the empire that Whitechapel already is. Thanks for everything.🤘
This is a beautiful comment. Sorry for your loss friends, i look forward to listening to ur music
It's just the way that it is
Beautiful

@@angelabordack okay thank you
Can't believe this is the same dude that does such insane guttural vocals and on the flip side such amazing emotional vocals on this track!! Can't wait for this album!!
Exactly
If Phil was a Batman villain, he’d be two-face.
He can sing so beautifully yet he can scare the living exile outta someone with his ultra-low gutturals
Agree O_o
That why he is one of my favorite singer!!
The two that do this so well are def Phil and Courtney of Spiritbox....Total beauty and guttural insanity...
@@mikenormandy9250I'd add Mikael of Opeth 😊
Phil's vocals are just perfect. Clean, growls and screams. What a legend.
The most underrated singer in metal in my opinion
This song is amazingly emotional
I lost my dad back in May after we were really starting to get close again and songs like this make me think about what I’ve been going through since then mentally. I miss him every single day I wake up and go to sleep. Thank you Phil and Whitechapel for writing such a masterpiece!
Definitely relate. Everytime I hear Bring Me Home, I have to fight tears just thinking about my dad.
Lost my dad around 2 months ago. I feel you man. Sorry for your loss.
Phil sounds great...but can I just point out that monstrously gorgeous guitar solo? Fkn beautiful!
I did not expect this kind of sound, Incredible guys, Get over to Ireland on this Album tour cycle
Same here. Still loving these guys. Never let me down..
Man if they came to Ireland I'd have a ticket bought instantly. Such a great band.
Really they been doing this for the last 2 albums now
This is why Whitechapel is the only "deathcore band" that I still follow, they're able to break the rules of the genre and make it something new of it and with Phils vocal range with the new addition of cleans it just works so well! I can't wait to hear the rest of this album!
Check out lorna shore
then you should also look into bands like Make Them Suffer or Shadow of Intent (Phil himself likes them as well)
I think you’ll be a fan of Fit For An Autopsy in that case
Brand Of Sacrifice are great too
Infant Annihilator and Angelmaker
You can tell this song is going to be so beautiful, I am very excited for this track. Whitechapel is really outdoing themselves with KIN so far and it is amazing how well they've evolved into what they've evolved into. They've become my favorite band over the last year or two.
Same. I never really gave them a chance till a few months ago. Now, they're one of my favorites. They're one of the few bands that get better and better with every new album
Same 🤟💥
I just want more music like the whole kin album. Always loved all of Whitechapel but this album is the best music I've heard in years. Genuinely.
Yeah I'm also of the opinion that this music is by very far the best they did
Phil's voice is beautiful... The lyrics, the melody...this song eased my pain. The band did a beautiful work. These guys won't ever stop making masterpieces.🖤 We love you, Whitechapel.
Phils voice is beautiful too in concert!!!
This is so beautiful, vocally and musically. Phil’s voice puts me in a trance. Wow.
Whitechapels most admirable quality, in my opinion, is their versatility; being able to convey a solemn, powerful, emotional sorrow through multiple different styles of sound. A Bloodsoaked Symphony being representative of Phil's extreme torment and rage for the world around him caused by his past, and the constant doom his mind is plagued by. While this song, though being based on the same trauma, has a much more emotional and sorrowful aura to it.
I respect a band who is able to convey a meaning in many ways.
This sounds like an early 2000s FLAW song with a guitar solo. That's awesome.
I came here to say this and I also think it's insanely good.
I thought the exact same thing! I love Flaw
Since you took your life, mine has not been whoooollleee
Those first 2 FLAW albums were so good
Dude. I had the exact same thought!
Being from Tennessee myself, it makes me proud to see a band from Tennessee doing well and putting out phenomenal music like this.
Same
Damn, I love it when metal bands make a “soft” song. It makes me so emotional and happy at the same time. I wish that more people and bands had the same gift of being able to make this type of music!
I grew up as a die hard whitechapel fan. Seeing them make this song makes me smile because they have talent in making different sounds and showing the emotions. They have grown a lot. Whitechapel will always be one of the best
Coming back to this after having Kin on repeat. How tf does this not have a million views yet. Best song of 2021 by far.
Unpopular opinion: This is my favorite song on this album.
Favourite Whitechapel song. Just love it when these hard-core vocalists change it up and do clean singing.
This sounds like it’s gonna be the Hickory Creek of this album and I am so here for it. This album is honestly shaping up to be so good.
Edit: The one song they’ve ever had without any kind of screaming is somehow one of my favorites they’ve ever released. Phil is the absolute GOAT, idc what anyone else says.
Hope this will get acoustic version as well
i love hickory creek and phil's clean vocals, but i don't feel this song actually works
I also got Hickory Creek vibes
I will never get more chills than the first time i heard this solo. Even if i'd walk a hundred miles naked in snow.
Phil's clean vocal is a gift from heaven above damn
Songs can be 'heavy' without being heavy. Beautiful ballad.
Couldn't have said it better myself. 👏
Yes lyrics hit more in this
This shows once again that Whitechapel have the biggest balls amongst their peers. Outstanding song men. Keep it up.
Man i can't explain how phil bozeman is great oh my!
This is a beautiful song. Phil and the boys should be very proud of the evolutionary trajectory they've embarked on with the last few records.
I love how Whitechapel has evolved over the years. They started out as a typical deathcore band, which was pretty cool already, and now their music is so much more intense and well written.
You guys are awesome. 🤘🏼
So much more intense?! Lmao!!!!
They could refer to intense emotionally-wise, it doesn’t have to be 150mph head banging to be just as if not more powerful.
I will always love Whitechapel, thanks for guiding me through dark times, your music NEVER disappoints.
Goosebumps from the first line until the end. This is so beautiful.
It’s funny that the band who’s brought tears to my eyes the most is one of the heaviest I listen to.
“Time won’t heal a thing”-diggs road
This song is a masterpiece...
I am so excited for this album!
Whitechapel
Please make more songs like this. ❤❤❤
I keep saying this Whitechapel has this very very strong Tool feel to this album and it’s amazing and it’s came at a moment in my life that has been hard to get through.
His voice, hit me straight in the heart, and calmed every single inch of anxiety I was carrying today. I have always loved Whitechapel but this just absolutely blew me away. Bravo 🤘😍🤘
It was hard to adjust to my favorite deathcore giants going down this path but im so happy they did. This is such beautiful music and they still hit with a hundred hammers. Im happy to see this growth. Not every band has this kind of talent.
Damn this song sounds good already
I almost cried, that's so much being told, he is in so much pain, he has to sing and scream like this more often. I hope he's doing okay, Phil, don't end it all, we love you, don't let the pain of your lost parents drag you away from Earth, you got me into growl in March 2017 (I do my best) with songs like "Mark Of The Blade" and those times, I'm doing it also for fun with few other genres (Amon Amarth with Crack The Sky & Cry Of The Black Birds) ❤. Stay alive Phil 🥺😞.
Just read an interview with Bozeman talking about his life and childhood. After reading that and listening to this, I gotta give love and respect to this man. We've all been through hell, I'm glad he was able to find the courage to drop not just one concept album about his trauma but two. That's brave and I imagine it was quite therapeutic for him. Beautiful song! Can't wait to hear the album.
I’ve never cried to a song on the first listen, but this represents exactly how I’ve been feeling since my little brothers passing. It’s going to be 2 years next January and every day gets harder because he was my best friend, and it’s hard to explain to some people how hard it is to just keep moving forward. And this song, this song made me cry
Sorry for your loss, man. 😕 Stay strong.
Stay strong bro 💪
Seriously you aren't alone. We are all living and suffering with you. Take it day by day and always remember that your brother would want you to be happy.
The fire that whitechapel brings has melted my mind again with Phil's singing just like Hickory Creek
I love Whitechapel no matter what they do, but songs like this are my favorite ones.
KIN is shaping up to be a masterpiece
Can't wait for KIN to release. Since "Bring me Home", I was waiting for more of Phil's clean vocals. This song is a dream that came true. Greetings from Brazil, keep up the great work!
What do you mean? There was plenty of clean vocals on The Valley (their 2019 album)
@@tylermitchell.420 only 3 tracks for the valley while kin has cleans on almost every song.
I’ve been with Whitechapel since TSD and maybe it’s because this band and myself have been “growing up” and getting older together but now that Phil is regularly using his clean singing voice and has become very personal in the writing of his lyrics this might be my favorite chapter of Whitechapel ever. There’s just something about it bro. Fricken fire.
Exactly how I feel. People hate the fact that bands evolve over a span of 15 years. The maturity of Whitechapel and especially Phil’s songwriting and vocals is incredible.
My fucking thoughts exactly
Valley, in my opinion, was their best album to date with Kin having a good chance of usurping that title.
I've been a fan since This is Exile. They've grown so incredibly well as a band.
@@mikedriscoll6278 Then they get mad when they stay the same as well. Can't please everyone.
Amen Brother
How is this not a massive hit? This is what rock music is all about!! PAIN
Those vocal melodies are simply unmatched in the scene right now.
Love this song! Phil's voice is so beautiful and powerful omg.
Listened to the album. Easily one of the best metal albums this year.
This is not metal hahaha sorry
@@shawncc89 You’re objectively wrong :)
How do you like something 1 million times! Absolutely incredible!!!
Both of my parents passed when I was a teenager. My mother when I was 17 my father 19. My father was much older and got Alzheimer’s when I was 11. So he went to a home and didn’t know who I was. My mother was a raging alcoholic. And I found her body when I got home from school. So this piece of music is 100 percent how I feel everyday. My soul eternally tortured by what could have been and what should be. Thank you Phil
Definitely seeing you guys when you come to Santa Ana. You're music is helping me get through an MS diagnosis and I thank you for the gift
This is fucking BEAUTIFUL!! On a side note tho, I really hope Phil is okay mentally after losing both his parents. Music can be a great outlet but still could be struggling.
We love the this whitechapel album
Phil, you are AMAZING and all Whitechapel too!
Im going to have to buy this as a Vinyl or a CD because this album is going to be pure gold !
Dude back in the day this band helped me express my anger and confusion about some stuff. Now all these years later as I'm more at peace with myself and how I feel, more open...I'm glad that they seem to feel the same way and not afraid to express themselves as such. A truly amazing band and Phil's singing voice is amazing. I hope they keep doing their thing. Much love!
Whitechapel is one of the only bands that I wouldn't be upset if they released a full album of songs like this
Songs like these and albums like the Valley really show a band maturing and coming into their own as artists. It's been beautiful to watch this band grow over the years, and I am so excited for this record to drop, could easily be a strong AOTY contender.
I'm back from the future, not only was this my album of the year for 2021, it is now possibly my favorite album of all time.
This might be my favorite Whitechapel song ever. Love their heavy stuff of course but Phil’s singing voice hits me so emotionally. This is incredible.
A lot of people here are talking about Phil's voice, which is incredible, but holy shit, that solo is phenomenal. That little part at 3:24 is easily some of the best stuff I've heard all year. Amazing.
Agreed! I think the solo speaks as much as the lyrics, kinda like telling a story through melodies. Phenomenomal work from the whole group. The band is a key element for serving the atmosphere for the song, they bring Phil's voice and lyrics alive
Yep I was scrolling thru and thinking the exact same thing as the solo played and I read this comment
Fantastic vocal
One of the best bands out there
those angelic cleans and the disturbed-esque chorus. sick track, very emotional
I never thought Whitechapel, of all bands, would be making some of the most emotionally moving songs I've ever heard. Yet here we are, and every time I listen through their Albums, and Bring Me Home, Hickory Creek come up, it's such an extraordinary sensation in between the brutality and devastation of their other songs and what an extraordinary accomplishment to write such incredibly moving songs, stick them in a deathcore album, and have them feel right at home. Epic
I would like to think that Phil’s mom and dad would truly appreciate him finding his other singing voice and not being afraid to show it and sing it for everyone going through hard times. Love this band always have. I’m proud of my tatoo and your parents would be so proud of you Phil.
I've said it before and I'll say it again . I absolutely love the way these guys have evolved and matured musically from album to album . I love my heavy tunes but the way these guys grow with every album completely blows me away . My mind is blown a little more with every album they put out ...
Phil Bozeman & Whitechapel just can't do any wrong
It never ceases to amaze me how our hardest moments bring out the true beauty that lies within. The songs dedicated to Phil's Mother and Father are always a masterpiece in its own. Mad respect.
I lost both my parents
Mom at 2012
Dad at 2017
And now it’s just me and my sister and we miss them a lot…..
I send you a big hug man!
This is simply a masterpiece both musically and lyrically.😮
He has such brutal gutturals and such beautiful clean vocals. Truly one of my most loved vocalists.
Phil is second to NONE
This song and his voice just touches your heart.
HUGE Stone Sour vibes! And that guitar solo might be the best I've heard all year... awesome stuff.
I'll be crying in the pit to this one.
“My heart is content now, to betray my insides!” Chills, every single time. I don’t think I’ve ever had a song make me cry as much as this one has. They continue to outdo themselves.
I can honestly say I love the direction you guys have taken this band. Grew up listening to you guys and even got to play a few show with you all. You guys have grown and progressed your sound so much. Keep it up fellas!
it's an incredible song revives forgotten emotions .... thanks Whitechapel ... i love you
Can I just say. That solo section is just stunning 🤘
Beautiful. I have to say, from the bottom of my heart, your music not only bangs but it heals.
Dude over the past two weeks I can’t get enough of “the valley” and wow..
Parts of it reminded me of like some early Seether, and a bit of early 2000s Nu-Metal's slower songs. Really liked this.
U mean Staind
More of a Ten Years vibe
FLAW!... BUT ALLGOOD
is it just me or does the outro sound like a disturbed song ? Like I was confused and had to check if it had a weird feature.. Phil just sounds like Dave ???
Dude, this is one of the best they're can give to us.
So fucking grateful with life for share the same time with you Withechapel 💙
Holy Shit. What a song. Love the fact that Whitechapel exploring more of Phil's clean singing instead of hiding it away in the name of genre.
Phil's clean vocals are amazing !
This song is so beautiful. 🖤
Man. That's impressive. He really have a great clean vocals. I wonder what the album will be, because it's really impressive and unexpected.
Looks like Whitechapel is gonna outdo The Valley, so excited cause I love that album. Great to see Phil expanding his range, it sounds incredible!
This is not deathcore anymore. This is just good music
Every Soft Music of Whitechapel is heartwarming
*stands up and starts clapping
Phil, thank you for your time and showing us a way to feel that most of us have never felt before. You are genius and a true testament to your craft. I appreciate everything you write, my dude.
It's just a masterpiece!
Something about this feels super early-mid 2000s and I absolutely love it
Beautifull song 😍😍😭
