We are based in North Wales and manage around 150 colonies of bees, plus nucleus colonies.
We produce Great Taste Award winning honey and sell nucleus colonies to members of the public.
Our 6 frame overwintered nucleus colonies sell out very fast every year so early ordering is advisable.
    www.blackmountainhoney.co.uk/...
We supply F1 Mated Buckfast and Jolanta Queens throughout the season. The UK Mated Jolanta Queens are reared using genetics used by the UK's biggest bee farmer - Murray McGregor - and are not available to general public, except through resellers like us! Check out our queens page on our website.

We are passionate about beekeeping and really enjoy helping beekeepers through our UA-cam channel.
On our channel you can find information on making splits with swarm cells, making increase with queen cells, grafting larvae, foulbrood and disease inspection, honey extraction and machinery, top tips for beginners, products reviews, instructions and guidance plus much more.
#NO NONSENSE BEEKEEPING is a UK based beekeeping channel, designed to keep beekeeping as simple and enjoyable as possible. There are no overly complicated techniques or intricate pieces of equipment.
We cover all beekeeping topics ranging from queen rearing, disease recognition/control, honey extraction, swarm management/collection, how to make splits and much more!
My personal favourite aspects of beekeeping are selecting queens for rearing, rearing queens for mating, making up nucs for overwintering and collecting swarms.
We aim to bridge the gap between commercial and hobbyist beekeepers and cater for beekeepers of all experience levels.

follower borads and Q excluders, doublettes have the shared inner box wall cheek to cheek, from there you harvest old wax and put in foundatiuons to the left , right respectively

I agree with using the older Abelo poly brood box rather than the interlocking as it can be used with other makes. I agree with not using their floors, I make my own wooden under floor entrances as there isn’t a protruding landing board. Good idea with the pressure washer, I haven’t tried that, thank you. Abelo poly supers are lighter to carry if you are a one man business. Cheers guys, useful insights. The Penistone Honey Company.

First purchased 2nd hand Smith cedar hive parts enough for two small hives, current housing a cut out from May this year who produced a small crop of mainly Lime tree honey.
First poly hive was the Bee Supplies hive that Laurence hated the roof and entrance reducer, agree the reducer is pants but I like the roof and currently home for the BMH I received at the beginning if this year.
Last year bought and used a 2nd old style Abelo deep roof 11 frame and the bees were doing well till I messed up my swarm control, so the original queen is in a modified Paynes with the feeder removed and her two daughters in two other nucs "2in1 Bs honey and a Payne with side feeder"
Finally I have a 5 frame Everynuc that Thornes sell and very adaptable as has an internal feeder you can remove so you can use Langstroth frames or national with it it. I also have the extension if I want 14x12 frames orvfeedingbfondantvabove the frames and the seperate top feeder, this is housing the small colony I rescued from an inspection pit wt Aberdeen Heliport.
I enjoy the pro and cons of having various kit but alot of the time I buy Smith frames or chop the longer lugs down on National top bars so the longer lugs are not an issue or potential breaking point.

I'm moving towards plastic excluders with integrated upper entrance. The workers definitely prefer it rather than have to deal with going through an excluder to get to the supers.

Langstroth. Have absolutely no regrets going with this hive type. Underfloor open mesh floors (I make them myself), single brood (double brood is too much faff - I have bees that aren't over prolific but the brood box is bigger than a National without the depth of a 14x12), wire QE with frame (with top bee space you need a rigid QE), supers, crown board and metal roof. All cedar (a few second hand pine boxes, floors are treated softwood). I'm keen to try an Abelo poly Langstroth as I'm not getting any younger. 🙂 I am moving towards Manley frames in the supers.

We were tempted to go double brood last year but after lots of advice and research (all different opinions!!) We decided to stay on single brood.
We decided on wooden nationals as we had access to free boxes, so a no brainer. And so easy to get hold of. Very tempted by abelo polyhives though.
May try double brood on some next year to compare.
Nucs, we have a paynes as a travel/emergency nuc, but are sticking with bshoney nucs for splits.

I'm looking forward to trying out my Abelo hive next year. Been making up frames for it today and have what looks like a really strong nuc colony (with a BMH buckfast queen) overwintering to go it come spring.

all my hives atm are the flow hive + 2 with the10 frame brood box, all the nucs are the paynes poly nuc, have been looking at expanding with the Paradise Honey Beebox Smart System but have yet to see a good in depth review on them, from what i can tell they only have 8 frame brood box.

My hives are double 10 frames langstroth paradise honey with the smart system on top. I had a choice since I bought the set, but all paradise honey brood box sizes are compatible with their smart system.

The bees ALWAYS know when you are running short of boxes and frames 😳😳 They are just bound to swarm 🤷‍♀️🇬🇧

As a new beekeeper, I wondered if a double brood box set up reduces the chance of swarming, sorry if this is a daft question...😊
