A great artist. Useless to start comparing one against another. Music was made to move and enjoy. Just thank the music the gods for them. Them. Thank you.
Dr John's closed heart --or how they worked out the chemistry --was no help on the recordings & notice finally here in second version Van gets to channel it correctly. they focused more on the organ for the vibe instead of piano. When he says go ahead Mac that must be dr john on organ.
Kansas City in the heartland. I almost feel it this time. not a fail like on the album. the bassplayer knows. got tears to my eyes. Notice Van keeps saying "thankyou" over and over. Probably 'cause they reached the right attunement.
One could argue that The Band and Martin Scorsese did, since they're both in the final ensemble version of I Shall Be Released at the Last Waltz concert ;-)

The Neil Young video was also run on the Midnight Special t.v. show in the states in either '76 or '77. I was young and stationed in Georgia in the Army and remember watching after Toni Tennille introduced it.
Neil's got the Feel; He plays in a way that takes you back to an otherworldly primeval state. Can't you see the ancient ruins with the UFOs? I think Neil is just more sensitive than the technical greats. He's got a heart full of soul.
Neil can make one note sound like a thousand. And Van gives his all in a way the audience can love for once. Neil is number 2 on all-time list and Van is no. 8. I dunno.
One of my all time favorite videos of Neil playing Like a Hurricane. Have to watch it over and over. You'd never know he's always had weakness on his left side including his hand from having polio as a kid.

Jukebox was one of the very first rock music broadcast on french TV , by Freddy Hausser. Thanks to his passion and knowledge, the french audience would discover great bands we'd never heard about without. After presenting Van Morrison, who was hardly known in France but among harcore rock fans, he had a little surprise worth watching , he said. That's a video of Neil Young and Crazy Horse 1976 tour. 1976 was the very first time Neil Young would perform in France, for one night only, in Paris. He wouldn't come back until 1982.
That's just Neil being Neil. What a great voice; better than singers with good voices. A guitar unlike that the gods bestowed up. Not that I ever believed in God for one second.
Not even close to a coherent comment. 2 very different ‘shows’ . You’re just in one of your Neil listening moods. Both were sublime, neither ‘better’ than the other - not even something that could be quantified or judged.

Quelle magnifique vidéo !!
Merci!!!
And Dr. John.

The great Anthony Jackson on bass and Dr John piano ❤
Great set. I remember when this album came out. It really had been a period of transition, almost five years since Hard Nose. Great stuff.
If they could have found a way to bring those two musicians into one song
One could argue that The Band and Martin Scorsese did, since they're both in the final ensemble version of I Shall Be Released at the Last Waltz concert ;-)

Van wears The Last Waltz outfit , at least jeans and jacket .
That’s what i was thinking too!
No wonder Van was so grumpy having to wear those tight horrible clothes? Genius though

Awesome.
If I could only hear one artist the rest of my life, it would be
Mr. Van Morrison. ❤️
That's what I do and a bit of Dylan

Definitely Van Morrison.
One listen and I know it's golden 😎. Sounds influenced by Bowie's Young Americans perhaps, or at least the black soul sound in general.
I think this is an underrated period of Van's career. He seemed to have a renewed energy after his 3 year break.
Katie Kissoon on our right, and possibly Venetta Fields of The Blackberries (Exile On Main St) on our left. Katie would be a force on Van's Wavelength Tour, one year hence.
The same Katie Kissoon who went pitchy at the Van, Rockpalast '98 concert, every time she checked down to see the song lyrics, ya mean? Amazing.
This is a real find! Thank you so much for putting this up.
Wow! Where has this NY live version been my whole life. That was incredible. Such a treat for fans.
Van Morrison with Neil Young reminds me about a story by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
These songs sound massively better than they do on Period of Transition played live.
I agree with you, this is freaking tight band and Dr. John on Piano, that is first flight.
hmm, I don't know. That album sounds solid to me as is! lol
I see that

Midnight Special was such a great show. A treasure.
Also shown on the BBC Old Grey Whistle Test plus when it was also on the Audio DVD version of American Stars and Bars.
One of the best versions of Hurricane!!!!!
There are a million better guitarists than Neil Young but he just does something that is weirdly magical and touching when he is in the zone

Thanks for this. Van's material was from his "Period of Transition" album. Dr. john on the album and here.
Very special historic video. Both were so great and special! Like a hurricane is one of my favorite Neil songs. Thank you for sharing.
What is the magic in the “like a hurricane” solo? I may never understand it, but I know the magic is powerful and real.
I like my guitar solos rough, raw, and real. Thanks Neil!!!
What a GEM! Thanks for uploading!
One of my all time favorite videos of Neil playing Like a Hurricane. Have to watch it over and over. You'd never know he's always had weakness on his left side including his hand from having polio as a kid.
I've always loved this song but felt the original recording was let down by wooden drumming. This is so much better
One could reason that that's key to his unique raw perfect imperfection. Good to see these days that a virus can also do good.
Wow maybe that makes him greater than great? Maybe the fan helps a bit.
Neil Young begins at 23:00
I kept waiting for him to join Van Morrison :p
My favorite singer ❤
Van is the new Charles Laughton...
Smithsonian-level performance by Neil. Take a good look and see what Seattle in the 90’s was trying to be. This was the original and the GOAT!
This is fantastic! Thanks for posting. What a performance of “Heavy Connection”. I can’t stop playing it
That presenter definitely knows where to score some smack.
Soul,soul and more soul
When rockstar is Young..sorry..

way closer to the way it shouldve been done. I wish for all artists that they achieve that satisfaction.

Neil is still the same but with 80
Did Van just wear this outfit all year? 🤣🤣🤣
Is this the same one he wore on The Last Waltz?

Like the fan action.......can you imagine if he was bald....... 😂
Bad sound, but Morrison and Young put on emotional perforations.
Van- I understand. A cold wind in august

Awesome! Thanks!
You ate so young on this one Van. You know , thank you , cherish , shine , hey ,
Message received! Feeling it!
But not together ...that would be rare.
I'm ready for my close-up
Van was good. But Neil blew him away. Great vid.

Van is Great!
Because volume was too low in Van's segment. I get it.
Proto-grunge!
No se que hace Neil con van pero entiendo que Neil Young tiene mucho más nivel...
Vaya tontería acabas de soltar. Y soy mega fan de N. Young.
No te contesto porque no merece la pena, feliz Navidad
