0:50 I am doing a ABDACOM Defensive Campaign and curiously, on the first battle, Hobart with absolutely 0 ammo in it had its forward magazine detonate, luckily it survived. It was against a Kongo so I shouldnt be surprised.
I tend to like naming my formations after the less famous elements - Tungsten, Iridium. Molybdenum, Vanadium, Cobalt, etc. I don't tend to do it for any symbolic reason though it is interesting to learn how these things affected the war. For the German Jet program was a lack of certain trace elements to make high-temperature alloys was actually a much bigger issue than political interference. Similarly, they had a limited supply of Tungsten, thus forcing them to chose between making high-speed tools for armor production, and producing armor piercing ammunition.
Interesting choice! I tend to name mine after different birds. Large birds of prey for heavy cruiser and battleship TFs (Barn Owl, Falcon, Goshawk, Kestrel, Red-tail, Nighthawk, etc), Sea-birds for carrier groups (Plover, Seagull, Pelican, Puffin, Albatross, etc), and songbirds (Robin, Starling, Warbler, Oriole, etc.) for light cruiser/destroyer forces.
@@danhaas9730 From a player point of view, that is a great idea. It would work well in an episodic LP like this for those watching. From realistic operational security - you don't want someone listening in to have a guess at your intentions. For me its like we all ready have the "golden rule" or "iron fist" but you don't get idioms about ytterbium.
I have just seen this - and I think that you could add another heavy cruiser and Destroyer to your escorts of the Transport/Fuel and Supply unit with Whipple and Paul Jones as back up. With the additional points of 10 you could add a couple more Clemson Class Destroyers. I recall that you took out a light cruiser in your first episode. And that was 5 points. In this instance, you might just get 12 points.
Hmm! You've lost another Destroyer - You will have to replace the Exeter and the other destroyer. You've taken 9 points I think.. So you may have to settle for One more destroyer but you will have other command points from Exeter.
@@ltournay And bear in mind that once a month passes - the points bonus will add - at least another 30 to 50 points so it does allow for greater forces to be added to the defending forces. Along with any points that are accrued through sinking enemy ships and damaged vessels. In the first instance of battle in part 5 - Wolfpack managed to get most of a Japanese battlegroup sunk and this allowed him to put together a Supply Convoy. With the combination of the Exeter and the Destroyer, plus monthly bonus of points, and admittedly only 9 points from the recent skirmish from sinking three vessels out of four - Where that leading cruiser did a bunk in the last battle. The combination of points could exceed 60 points in this instance. With the combination of these factors in place. That would allow Wolfpack to put a second battlegroup together. Combining a Submarine force. With that and enhance his logistics unit with a couple more transport and supply ships. So there's some reason to suspect that Wolfpack finally might consider Submarines. So don't put a downer on this! It's a matter of what's possible to do.
Oh and a suggestion. The next battlegroup - Wolfpack, you put together. Should comprise. Task Force Anvil. Which could comprise. A Heavy Cruiser, with two Tribal Class Destroyers, and four Clemson Class Destroyers. And Task Force Hammer comprising MTB's, PT Boats - four of each - and Four Submarines, One US, Two T Class Submarines of the RN and RAN - and one Dutch Submarine. And a couple more supply ships. At least. Any additional points remaining should go into escorts. Anti Submarine Escorts like Frigates and Corvettes, for instance. Of course Wolfpack. You will consider these other items. I would certainly go with the force disposition of that. Strictly on strategic grounds..
Name of TF idea: Albert Rooks [For context, he was a captain who died in Indonesia 1942, who maned the vessel USS Houston consisted within your task force] You could also call it Rooks’ Fleet. Another Idea, In memory of the Sunda Strait, you could call it TF Sunda, or the Galloping Ghosts as the navy men referred them too, typically the Houston.
Wolfpack 345, your tactics and narrations are the best! I don't even waste my time with anyone else's gaming videos. Please keep up the good work and have a Merry Christmas.
Task Force Granma. Nobody messes with Granma. 😉 Wolfie - don't be afraid to use star shells even in the day. They help with accuracy. Also, that scout plane was helping the IJN group's accuracy. If you're finding your shots all going over or under, try using a full or loose spread. Narrow gets serious results, but only when you actually hit. I tend to use Spot a lot until I get the solution up.
I always tend to name my task forces according to the largest vessel, for example "TF Atago" "TF New Orleans" I name my supply convoys according to the lead escorting destroyer, "TF Akizuki" "TF Fletcher".
Neat idea for the supply convoys, though if you have any one supply ship (or oiler, in particular) that is bigger than the other supply ships, then personally, I'd name it after them 🙂
I reckon war on the Sea should add realism to the game by turning the land war into a hex based counter war game. So example a counter representing a division is on the map and can march across the island to take ports or airfields. Spawn points are at your ports or airfields and the material to create them come from the supplies at the base. The Navy has to set up a supply run of fuel, manpower and engineering points to create infantry division. Your aircraft also has targets to bomb which in turn requires airpower to protect.

Task force:Buckshot, like the shotgun rounds with many pellets inside it which rips the enemy to shreds.Another name is task force stinger, hits hard and will kill would be nice for a faster TF but with some firepower.
I feel the task force name should reflect Australian, British, Dutch, and American officials squabbling over the name for several hours before agreeing on something they all equally hate.
I've been watching others playing this mod there is a unclaimed base near your Hq Australia that is needs to be taken look at the rules it mentioned taking the base to provide air support in the area
Little late to the punch here but I've got some ideas for task forces: Task Force 'Eagle' (I think you have Langley as the sole CV in this campaign so any fleet with her is designated 'Eagle') Task Force 'Good Hope', 'Fortune', 'Serenity', and anything else that is a positive and hopeful word (Used for convoys that resupply and reinforce as they are the ones the Marines are "hoping" to see) Task Force 'Tempest' (Used for faster, interception fleets that can catch a submarine or lightly armed convoy off guard) Task Force 'Tranquil' (Used for sub fleets or for DD convoy fleets like what's being done with the Clemson's because of their stealth) Task Force 'Bruiser' (Used for the main battle fleet or whichever fleet has the most firepower in terms of naval artillery)
Task Force Twilight (At the end of the campaign, put together the most absurd fleet of like 100 ships and send it into the last remaining enemy naval base or something)
Not as much of a heavy hitter but I think it’d be cool to name the Task Forces after some of the cities/regions in the Dutch East Indies, I.e Task Force Batavia (the former name of modern-day Jakarta), Bandung, Cirebon and Medan etc
You could do some task force names hankering to irl operation names like "Shangri La", "Watchtower", "Sandcrab", "Forager", "Iceberg", etc etc. quick note Shangri La was the Doolittle raid!
Ironically enough , Hobart sunk like its Sister ship Sydney did in real life, just a month before her other sister ship Perth was sunk in the Sunda straight. Hobart was the only Perth class to survive the war
I'm hoping someone is doing some mods for the audio of the game, the gunsounds and explosions could use some work to be honest, since the visuals are so great of that game. Love your War On The Seas series, Wolfpack. Keep 'em coming, cheers!
I'd be taking those enemy spotter planes more seriously, Wolfpack. Okay, they can't do much damage to your fleets, but they are able to spot for the enemy ships and zero their barrage more accurately onto your ships. Shoot it down, man! Another point you should be aware of is the base you have abandoned on Borneo has a Level 3 airfield on it. You should therefore send a task force to bombard it as soon as possible and reduce it down a level or two, or the Japs will be using it to send in air attacks on you.
How's about... 'Task Force V' for that main one with your flagships? 'V', of course, standing for 'Victory'... and 'Vengeance'. For your transport task forces, definitely name them the 'Tin Can Express' or something if it's just old 4-stackers (or other older destroyers). You could even number them sequentially if you end up having multiple task forces like that (abbreviated as, say 'TCE-1, TCE-2, etc., for example). Any fast force could be called 'Task Force Agile' (and thus 'Task Force A/TF-A 😉) or maybe 'Task Force Dash', or again, Task Force D/TF-D for short. Their are... other jokes and puns you could use that last one for, too, but... I think I'll let you guys fill in the dots there, in the interests of keeping things PG 🤭 In general, I think it would be fitting to use British naming conventions and proclivities where possible, since historically-speaking ABDACOM was ultimately under British control overall. Since it is still an international force, I would shy away from names referencing UK history or place names, though. I feel like Biblical names would be a good fit for this reason, though, since the predominant shared religion between these various allies is Christianity, which I think would have resonated particularly with the older, more traditional senior leadership at the time (Christian fellowship, fighting the good fight and all that, wot wot 🧐)
Curious, you sorta making the same mistake the actual allies made during the Java sea. Your sacrificing borne and celebes isles to sure up javelin and try to reinforce Sumatra and Singapore. But Borneo and celebes isles is where the japanese heavy cruiser forces came from that crushed the joint task force in the Java sea. Your supply lines are insanely long. Sure up Java and use it as shield to hold the sea and make skip bounds back to Singapore.

She was the ships that saved Malta in operation Pedestal- almost sinking, but just making it with the help of destroyers...
Task foece sigismound GLORY TO HIS HOLINESS THE GOD EMPORER OF MANKIND
Task Force Granma. Nobody messes with Granma. 😉
Wolfie - don't be afraid to use star shells even in the day. They help with accuracy. Also, that scout plane was helping the IJN group's accuracy. If you're finding your shots all going over or under, try using a full or loose spread. Narrow gets serious results, but only when you actually hit. I tend to use Spot a lot until I get the solution up.
I always tend to name my task forces according to the largest vessel, for example "TF Atago" "TF New Orleans"
I name my supply convoys according to the lead escorting destroyer, "TF Akizuki" "TF Fletcher".
Neat idea for the supply convoys, though if you have any one supply ship (or oiler, in particular) that is bigger than the other supply ships, then personally, I'd name it after them 🙂
You almost always let..just one Escape so they can go back tell the tale of the horrendous defeat and help spread fear throughout..lol
HMAS Hobart in this suffered the same fate as the legendary HMAS Perth I got lots of respect for Perth and her captan and crew will be rembered R.I.P
*Task Force Admirable* - A versatile -carrier- seaplane tender force, led by the mighty, *the one and only, **_Enterprise¹_*
¹ the Royal Navy CL edition
Task Force Trident, Task Force Atlantis, Task Force Hammerhead, Task Force Lionfish, Task Force Eagle (for an Aircraft Carrier Force)
Another fine show, thanks Admrial Wolfpack.
Thanks!
@@Wolfpack345 Wolfpack I'm completely rubbish at these sorts of games, where you have to control large fleets, synchronise and co-ordinate your ships all at the same time. So, I find it very enjoyable to watch you do this so brilliantly.
If you want ahistorical but still punchy TF names then TF Neptune, TF Poseidon, TF Trident, TF Nautilus are quite traditional nautical names. TF Spearfish, TF Harpoon, TF Hammerhead, TF Swordfish, TF Tigershark etc are also possibilities, because numerical taskforce names are a bit boring.
22:31 DISHNOROBRU!
Task for Isaac for the lovely dog!
inspired by the ships java and express the java express taskforce would be pretty cool
Oooh, good idea! Might also be ripe for coffee puns and such, too, lol 😝
You just got me into this campaign, so far I have sunk like 6 heavy cruisers (mostly from airpower and a fire in surface fights) along with drum roll please….
SHOKAKU!
Task Force Honey Badger, the only appropriate name for the first TF to join the fight against the overwhelming IJN forces
You can make the repair parties focus on fires by clicking on the repair parties that arent fighting fires
This one isn’t in your playlist, finished the USN Tokyo express series… been trying to find more but no one does this as well as yourself. Glad I scrolled and found this, my sanity is saved. Thanks for the content.!
Nvm found the playlist, makes this loads easier to bing
Task force:Buckshot, like the shotgun rounds with many pellets inside it which rips the enemy to shreds.Another name is task force stinger, hits hard and will kill would be nice for a faster TF but with some firepower.
I think Angelic names would be cool for a task force i.e. “Task Force Virtue” or “Task Force Seraph”
I feel the task force name should reflect Australian, British, Dutch, and American officials squabbling over the name for several hours before agreeing on something they all equally hate.
I LOve those little Cutscenes
I've been watching others playing this mod there is a unclaimed base near your Hq Australia that is needs to be taken look at the rules it mentioned taking the base to provide air support in the area
Hey wolfpack i recently found you through your silent hunter campaign. Like your videos, definitely subbed!
I might buy this due to your review thanks been looking for a good fleet game for awhile
Task Force Bubblegum Run
Why?
Little late to the punch here but I've got some ideas for task forces:
Task Force 'Eagle' (I think you have Langley as the sole CV in this campaign so any fleet with her is designated 'Eagle')
Task Force 'Good Hope', 'Fortune', 'Serenity', and anything else that is a positive and hopeful word (Used for convoys that resupply and reinforce as they are the ones the Marines are "hoping" to see)
Task Force 'Tempest' (Used for faster, interception fleets that can catch a submarine or lightly armed convoy off guard)
Task Force 'Tranquil' (Used for sub fleets or for DD convoy fleets like what's being done with the Clemson's because of their stealth)
Task Force 'Bruiser' (Used for the main battle fleet or whichever fleet has the most firepower in terms of naval artillery)
Task Force Twilight (At the end of the campaign, put together the most absurd fleet of like 100 ships and send it into the last remaining enemy naval base or something)
You might like Ultimate Admirals:Dreadnoughts…You can build your own ships and then have large naval battles like this.
Not as much of a heavy hitter but I think it’d be cool to name the Task Forces after some of the cities/regions in the Dutch East Indies, I.e Task Force Batavia (the former name of modern-day Jakarta), Bandung, Cirebon and Medan etc
Good idea, particularly if he creates a task force specifically to guard or patrol a certain port or region...
Task Force Tsunami, Task Force Hurricane, Task Force Cyclone, Task Force Tempest, Task Force Cloudburst and so on
*Task Force Juggernaut* 💪
*Task Force Oberon* 🌑
*Task Force English Breakfast* 🫖
Task Force Devil Dogs, Task Force Inferno, Task Force Abyss, Task Force Krieg, Task Force Vanguard, Task Force Iron Sky, Task Force Bloodlines.
I would identify every enemy ships in the very first moment in the battle, it increases the solution of enemy ships and helps gun accuracy.
love the
Task Force Thunder and Task Force Lightning. One brawling TF and one Intercept Scout TF
Stuck in bed with covid. This video is so good to see
Wishing you a speedy recovery! 😷
Task Force Meatloaf, Task Force French Fry, Task Force Cast Away
I hope they do an update some day that allows planes to bring supplies with out making over powered.
Very enjoyable, thank you.
in damage controle you should always put out the fires
Task Force Hobarth or Exodar to honor the fallen/heavily damaged.
Task force Hobart is an idea idk
Great idea.
I love this series, just takes so long between uploads
I plan to start doing 2 videos a week for this series
If you get an Aircraft Carrier, TF Wyvern
Hail the algo, loved it
Task Force Skrewball: Force of annoying destroyers
Another good one Wolf.
I think I'll let you guys fill in the dots there, in the interests of keeping things PG 🤭
In general, I think it would be fitting to use British naming conventions and proclivities where possible, since historically-speaking ABDACOM was ultimately under British control overall.
Task Force Doom just sounds about right
Task Force Tinker Bell
Curious, you sorta making the same mistake the actual allies made during the Java sea.
Your sacrificing borne and celebes isles to sure up javelin and try to reinforce Sumatra and Singapore.
But Borneo and celebes isles is where the japanese heavy cruiser forces came from that crushed the joint task force in the Java sea.
Your supply lines are insanely long. Sure up Java and use it as shield to hold the sea and make skip bounds back to Singapore.
Use binoculars to get enemy ships to pop up on the map in crappy weather
great episode! MORE!!!!
I think you should name one of the task forces either old iron sides, gunslingers, or bounty hunters.
Task Force Huston? She was the flag ship after all. XD
Could you use the level 3 ports scattered across indonesia to rearm your ships?
This is is too easy, i'm always rooting against wolf
