I was a child of the 50's and it happened like this movie says. Those days every one that he was the devil the churches preached against him, the cops and media hated him. Men were so jealous they would hang outside where he was singing and try to beat him up. He hung out with black artist and whites do not like that. It was a crazy time but teenagers did think he was a god. I was one of them. I am almost 78 and he means as much to me today as he did when I first saw him. Thanks for you kind words.

Elvis performed at the Municipal Auditorium, Sioux City, Iowa.
The Newspaper Blasted Elvis After ’56 Show in Sioux City “Elvis is a fad.” “He won’t last.” “He can’t sing.” “His act is immoral.” “He’s harming our kids.”
June 24, 2022 -- Biopic teaching a new generation -- OUR GENERATION the TRUTH behind who Elvis Presley was, and how important and effective he was to bring his generation of white and black together. Today, its a direly needed MESSAGE to hear that could not POSSIBLY COME at a MORE CRITICAL TIME.

The great legends of color in his era: BB King - Jackie Wilson - James Brown were there to witness Elvis‘ creativity. He was a one-of-a-kind super talent that grew up in the black community during the great depression and segregation in the deep South. Born in 1935 in a shack his father built (no electricity or plumbing). His twin brother died at birth. The Presleys were so poor that they buried his stillborn twin brother in a shoe box. So Elvis experienced the depths of poverty from the day he was literally born. He grew up playing with black friends on the streets and in black and white southern Baptist churches, in the poorest mixed and black neighborhoods in Tupelo. His support for the civil rights movement is not known by the greater population in America. The new Elvis 2022 movie is going to examine this part. This is why almost all black musicians from that era absolutely loved Elvis because he was able to take that Memphis sound all around the country and then the world. Little Richard credited Elvis Presley multiple times for opening up the door for black music and creating a path that he could travel and so he could make his mark. Clearly a terribly racist time Elvis put poverty and racial socialization on his platform. But he did it all through Music and his behind the scenes actions alone. He never got political I think that’s what actually made him so powerful and able to succeed.
BB KING: 'Let me tell you the definitive truth about Elvis Presley and racism', The King of the Blues, B.B. King said in 2010. 'With Elvis, there was not a single drop of racism in that man. And when I say that, believe me I should know'. -- BB KING
JAMES BROWN: “I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a hard worker, dedicated, and God loved him … I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There’ll never be another like that soul brother”. --- JAMES BROWN (During Elvis' private family wake, James was the LAST ONE TO LEAVE. 3 and a half hours later -- it took several of his security guards to help him out of the room. James was devastated -- they sang Gospel together to all hours of the night at each others' homes. James Brown was considered family by the Presley they were so close.)
JACKIE WILSON: "A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man's music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied from Elvis." --- JACKIE WILSON (Elvis quietly paid for Jackie's medical expenses until the day he passed away in 1977. Before Jackie's stage accident he would carry a small signed photo of Elvis in his pants pocket. Every day, bar none.)
RANDY JACKSON (of the Jackson 5): "Elvis used Rock and Roll music to bridge the gap between whites and minorities. He was a wonderful person."
LITTLE RICHARD "He sung my Tootie Fruti & by him singing it, made it bigger & made ME bigger" And then he said: “I thank God for Elvis Presley. I thank the Lord for sending Elvis to open the door so I could walk down the road...”- Little Richard

    Great commentary and reaction.
That was a good comment you made about Elvis coming out of the Army and still able to sort of reinvent himself and keep making music.
San Cooke actually talked about that how much respect he had for Elvis being able to have his career stalled and taken away from him at his height in 1958 then he saw Elvis come back in the early 60s after the Army and his voice even better than before and Elvis out there killin' it.
Sam's brother (Charles Cooke) said Sam always spoke mad respect for Elvis. To me that always told me a lot coming from *Sam Cooke* I mean that's really saying something.
I was a little nervous when I first heard few years ago they were working on a feature film regarding Elvis because there's already been some attempts in the past made by others attempting to cover Elvis life on TV or film, but generally they always fell short of covering the true accurate history.
But I was so glad to see Baz was in charge and steering this ship. Someone (Baz Luhrmann) finally saw the importance and value of showing Elvis's close personal connection with the black community going back to his childhood, and throughout his life.
And also made a point for film to show how culturally crazy the times were and what a force of nature Elvis was.
(That is something that has been lost in much of the hustle & shuffle over the decades).
BB King, Isaac Hayes, Solomon Burke, and other legends from the Soul /Blues community all said "Elvis had Guts back then to be doing what he was doing".
The more I see from these trailers and hear from Baz's interviews, I think I can relax and feel pretty good about what he did with this and can't wait for it to drop.
    🙏

Elvis was drafted into the Army. The Army offered him to just go from base to base to entertain. He refused and said he wanted to serve just like any other man, and he did. The Army introduced Elvis to drugs. He’d have to go out in tanks for six months. He was afraid he’d fall asleep and freeze as Germany was so snowy and cold. Elvis lived outside in that weather with fellow Army men. That’s where drugs came in....uppers to keep him awake on his watch.

Elvis was already established by the time little Richard and chuck Berry had their first hits in 1955, Elvis’s wasn’t directly influenced by who we think of today as the big major black rock and rollers like chuck and little Richard , Elvis got his inspiration from the church and blues and the R&B the lesser known names like Arthur Crudup, Smiley Lewis, Lonnie Johnson even black folk wouldn’t even know who they were but Elvis did and by him singing them songs he made them royalties and out there..every song Elvis ever recorded the songwriters are next to his name, Elvis’s first love was gospel and as he got older his music broadened and he could put his voice to anything he desired and not many can do that, chuck Berry and little Richard are typecast as rock and rollers and that was their career, Elvis on the other hand put his talents to Other music and genres and acting, he broke down the door that opened the floodgates for black music, pre Elvis you had the likes of Nat king Cole having his skin lightened just to be on tv, after Elvis you had the rock and revolution in full swing and you could see Chuck and Little Richard in glorious technicolour in films

Good reaction! I think one of the biggest take-aways from the movie for younger folks (I'm in my 70s!) will be an eye-opening look at what America was like in that era of the 1950s-60s. The social and cultural landscape was.... well, to put it simply.... it was a different world. A way different world. That fact, alone, is one of the big reasons why Elvis was considered a "threat to society". Sounds like a bizarre, over-dramatic thing to say but that's how he was perceived by the adult generation, the "establishment", of that time period. Black Americans had been doing this music and the dancing before Elvis came along but the country was so incredibly segregated, racially, that the vast majority of White Americans had NEVER heard Black music and had never seen the artists performing that kind of music. What they did hear, once in a blue moon, was a tiny handful of Black artists performing "nice" music that was deemed "acceptable". And then along comes Elvis and all Hell broke out in Leave-it-to-Beaverland. And the kids couldn't get enough of it!!! I was there at the beginning. Trust me, it was FREAKIN' AWESOME! LOL!

The significance of the finger is a reference to the earlier reference to the cop threatening him...ie Elvis was giving the finger to the suthorities who didn't like his moves or him bringing black influences into popular country music ..people forget that he was first niclnamed the Hillbilly Cat brcause of the country misic influence...there's some great real footage of Elvis filmed by the Florida police shot because they considered him such a threat to the nation bringing together and integrating black and white musical influences and putting them fearlrssly on the same level..a big no no back in the 50s...a major contributor and influence on knocking down racial barriers..I salute him for that and think this movie is going to go stratospheric this year as it conveys this and Elvis's spirit and vision and it's relevance to today. You should react to the Manneskins music video clip from the movie covering Elvis's 'If I Can Dream ' which blends into Elvis's version at 0.50 and you will get the point I'm making and the continuity of Elvis's gospel inspired vision..enjoy your deep dive into this man beyond the popular negative and largely false characterisation of this man..
.it's a deep, inspiring and rewarding journey...the Texas incident you positively reference was only one of several similar incidents including ones in Vegas I 74 where in the middle of the night he went up a ladder in a venue to pain the faces and hands out of some white statues of angels in black to p@ss off the racist management and walked out of a hotel in Jackson Mississippi in 1975who wouldn't let his singers in with his entourage.Enjoyed yr reaction

See ya at the movies 🍿! Early on during segregation they called him a n_ _ _ _ _. Broke his record on the D J shows. You’ll see how much of a rough time he had. He was very courageous to remain fighting the system along with his inner struggles. They have many black artists being portrayed in this movie & they get credit by Elvis for their songs. A great review. You should check out the director of the movie, Baz Luhrmann talking to one of Elvis's black childhood friends, Sam Bell. Elvis as a young child living in a black community was inspired early on by the music in the black churches he went to, also by the old bluesmen playing guitar, that he sat and listened to on porches near where he lived. ua-cam.com/video/LrFCyNMvZWk/v-deo.html. I believe Austin will capture the essence of Elvis brilliantly!👍✌

Elvis borrowed from Big Mama Thornton (Hound Dog), Big Joe Turner (Shake Rattle and Roll) and many other Black acts. Disk Jockey Alan Freed named it Rock and Roll in 1951but really it was called race music or rhythm and blues after 1945. Bill Haley covered Rocket 88 (Ike Turner) and that fusion pre-dated Elvis.
Leiber and Stoller wrote Hound Dog, and most of the Coasters hits...they were of European heritage...but were living the lives (culturally) of Black men in 1950.

Why are some people in the black community nowadays don't get it. Sir EP did not steal black music. Every race in this world, black, white, yellow brown are all gifted musically. in the times when Sir should had stuck to be white person he didn't. because he was better than that. he loved all people and could see the unfairness of the world. he broke down barriers so black man can walk down the street, can sing I front of white racist mass and those black singers get paid for their songs. he always acknowledge owners of the songs. in those days writers would give the songs to him to sing. his manager was the hussler. Give the man credit instead of thinking like the white man back then. He paved the way for everyone that came after. the black musicians that were knew the true Sir EP and spoke with respect of what he. He put an injection on black music which no one else done before. The sad thing about later generation, they hear untruthful things like a Chinese whisper and instead of researching they just believed in what they are hearing ..

He paid Black artists to record their music, and indeed, made it ok for white America to embrace Black music. Shouldn’t that be applauded by the Black community? I really don’t understand it. Elvis literally grew up in and with the Black community. Can anyone accuse a child of stealing culture and music when that’s what they experienced? Ya know, there’s a lot of racism in this country, and it’s not a one-way street, and I think that’s what Elvis is experiencing from certain segments in the Black community.
