The only other game with grunts as memorable as Halo's Marines are Titanfall's grunt, who have universal dialogue for any map, commenting on things like the pilot running past them and the strain their jump packs put on your knees, to yelling the location of an enemy Titan and them retrieving their AT weapons. As well as this, they also have animation for looting dead bodies and saluting/attacking you when you enter, getting knocked down by a robit and killing it and one grunt getting into a duel with two enemy grunts and killing the both of them, as well as several different behaviours when you corner one with your Titan. They also have dialogue relating to campaign missions when you play them, which comment on things that have happened during the level. It adds a whole lot of flavour to the game and sadly it all went largely unnoticed, but Pilot Uplink has a few playlists for your listening pleasure.
Whats also cool, but fucked up as well is that in multiplayer, when you start to wipe a squad of grunts, one of them will get on the radio and hail a mayday, panicking and all. When you kill him, the audio gets cut off in agony
YES, the grunts in both titanfalls is one of my most loved aspects of both games, and they are highly underappreciated, I once cornered a grunt with my papa scorch and he dropped to the ground and started crying and begging for mercy, I let him live as he ran away
Halo 5 was a missed opportunity to promote Chips Dubbo to main character as leader of fireteam Osiris (instead of Locke). Just think about it after half the campaign chasing Chief, instead of trying to pick a fight with him the first thing he says is: "Sir! The captain needs you on the bridge ASAP. You betta follow me!"

Halo 3, Tsavo highway. Use the troop hog and load everyone up with beam rifles, and gradually phase their weapons to fuel rod guns as you find them, then just drive around giving them good firing lines.
The Marines say the absolute funnies things especially when playing with the IWHBYD skull on. I remember playing with my friend and at one point I died and one of the Marines just said "Holy shit, the Master Chief just got Merced."
I find it hilarious that every military shooter has to be a hardass soldier simulator. Soldiers are people too, they joke, do silly shit, hype everyone up. I guess people enjoy the fantasy of being a stone colder professional killer, but the games that show that the other people are human make the best atmosphere.
@@SkyNinja759 Especially when they don't make the perfect choice every time. When they make mistakes or act up or get erratic, because that's how people truly are. A standard squad of Marines or soldiers shouldn't be shown as if they're top notch spec ops.

Am I only one that if a Marines / ODST dies in Halo, I'll revert last checkpoint? That's what I miss in Halo are moments like these especially Halo 3. Give everyone BR and let them kill the enemies and I'll protect them from death
Me too man, especially when there’s an ODST (in Halo 3) voiced by Nathan Fillion or one of the other Halo 3:ODST, I can’t live with myself if Buck, Dutch or Mickey die not long after their own campaign lol
One of my favourite Halo memories was from when I was playing "The Covenant" on Halo 3. I very early gave two of the Marines a fuel rod canon and a covenant sniper. I made it my mission to protect these two marines at all costs. Throughout the level you often have to leave them behind, and I figured surely they'd despawn while I'm gone. But they didn't. These two soldiers made it all the way from the beach to the fight with the scarabs. Following me on foot, warthogs and hornets. It was one of the most tense, yet fun runs I've ever had.
@@LateNightHalo You'd think they'd have much better microphone quality in 2552, but no, instead it sounds like the game chat of an early Xbox 360 title with everyone using Kinect mics.
I always make sure to give my AI allies the créme de la créme of weaponry whenever I can. It not only serves as an excellent tactical resource, but it makes me feel like a tactician as we trample our foes underfoot. Until one of them shoots the floor with a rocket launcher....
@Last Earthbender It seems down mostly to chance. In one of my playthroughs I just ran ahead and used the marines as a distraction. they fought theirway to me at the end of the level on their own and most of them were still alive.
The thing I love about the halo marines is that they remind me of actual marines in combat environments. Even more so when we see something big and powerful join us in combat. I loved this video it truly highlights something I think has gone relatively unnoticed in what helps makes halo great.
You know what makes it better? In most levels with marines they'll follow you as far as they can, keeping up all of their best efforts. Being able to keep those ODSTs that you started with on the Ark or Delta Halo, along with all the other Marines you pick up along the way, is satisfying. It makes it feel as if you've put together a team that can face the odds and survive.
The marines from Reach are a personal favorite of mine, you can “recruit” them to be in your squad and you can see their name and rank at the bottom of the screen which gives them more character despite being mere NPC’s I always challenge myself to go through an entire mission without any of my marines dying and I would go into a blood fuelled rage when I see when get gunned down by a cocky Jackal or Brute
"Let's see, the Colonies are toast, the Covenant found Earth, and our last best hope is a guy in green metal underoos with some serious friendly fire issues. Yeah, I'm great!"
When I was growing up playing this game anytime I had troops supporting me and under my command basically I would feel obligated to make sure I protected they’re well being even though Ik its a game but they’re still my men
I miss the ungodly accuracy of the Marines from the earlier titles. Delta Halo of Halo 2, gave all the ODST rocket launchers and sniper rifles and they were pegging things on the other side of a room before I even knew what was there. Similarly in Halo 3, load up the troop carrier Warthog with heavy weapon marines and you were just a death blossom of munitions. A marine on a Gauss Warthog turret also basically had sniper accuracy at unlimited range, killing the drivers of some vehicles without harming the vehicle itself. They have been really toned down in recent titles though.
Don't forget our trusty Elite friends either! In Halo 3, they often would complement you for your skills in combat and if there's one way to an Elite's heart, it's through impressive feats of combat. Not to mention these guys certainly weren't afraid of getting their hands dirty themselves with an energy sword when they the time comes. There's even dialogue of them conversating with fellow marines! Interesting stuff.
My favorite Marine line is Sergeant Johnson in Halo 2 when you take the Sniper Rifle from him at the beginning of the level Outskirts "I thought we were friends!" I sometimes swap weapons back and fourth with him until I hear him say that beautiful line, just for that one line.
I love marines, and I try to keep them alive for as long as possible whenever I play. Sometimes I go back to the last checkpoint to make sure they don’t die. One time, in halo 5 war zone, I got a marine from home base to hop on a mongoose with me and attack the enemy base. My favourite thing to do with marines (especially on the mission the ark) is to give them all rocket launchers or fuel rod canons and make them all ride on my scorpion. It makes me so happy to hear them cheer after blowing up a group of enemies, while allowing me to focus my attention on the main objective
On one mission, after taking out the towers (I don’t remember the mission but it was from halo 3 and I took tower out by jumping from air craft), me and other UNSC guys go to a snow place and are ambushed by 2 scarabs; one pilot on a aircraft picks me up, circles a scarab so I can get some shots off, and then lands me onto the scarab and quickly leaves as I blow the core. Seconds after the core is about to explode on the scarab, the aircraft comes to pick me up and quickly leaves as the scarab blows up. That was just one approach to the scarabs - halo 3 is my favorite game ever!
I never knew they would fly you to the scarabs, gonna have to try that on my next playthrough. I always just loaded up the hornet and shot at the back until the core was exposed.
I bet your excited for the new M27s coming your way. Remember it’s chambered in 556 NATO not crayons. Believe me it will only make your new shiny gun dirty and sticky. Now go drink yourself sober or clean that floor again but better this time. Rah or something like that
I know this isn't a *Marine* but I still wanted to share. Just the other day, I was playing Halo 2 Anniversary on the mission "Oracle" (where you meet the Flood) and ended up forging a connection with an Elite (that I named Jimmy), and protecting him up until the part where Rtas shows up before you cut the cables. Jimmy is now part of my "Head cannon" as a "Hydra Bob" sort of character to the Arbiter.
My Jimmy (who was a Marine this time around) had wanted to show me a hologram of his child who was turning 2 next week. I made damn sure he stayed alive until the next chapter so that he could see his kid again. I gotta commend Bungie for putting in the little details even with such a rushed development cycle.
For me my Jimmy were two Marines in the Mission Regret, halfway through the mission they came down from a pelican i think and after that i just protected them till the fight with the prophet, ill just think that they survived the glassing and survived the War
Whenever I can I give marines the best possible weapons and put my half a ton titanium shielded god body in front of the brave men and women who took up arms against the covenant, main reason is that they have families that love them and wives husbands and children to go home to while I, a 7 foot virgin, only have my cryo pod and my fellow 7 foot virgins. God bless these honourable souls and may they all rest easy knowing that the war has been won.
"This is just like shooting swaprats back home" Also, everytime I play Tsavo Highway, I always go for the troop carrier hog and hand every single marine on board a beam rifle or fuel rod gun. Parts of the level with a lot of vehicles tend to be cleared real quickly as a result, long as one of them don't fire too close and end up flipping your hog and killing a few of his own in the process.
I'm so glad to have finally gotten into this series. I know, I'm very VERY late. But whenever I have free time I'm researching Halo lore and expansive material too. I'm about to buy an Xbox One and a copy of MCC soon and I'm very excited! I plan to beat all the campaigns and learn the games weapons and maps as best as I can in order to get ready for the all new Halo Infinite! My first introduction to the Halo series was Halo 3. I remember my cusion bought the Xbox 360 when it was still new and was really far in the game by the time I came over. I remember playing the Campaign as The Arbiter and being so amazed at just how stunning the visuals where. I cannot wait to pick up my Xbox One and finally become officially invested into the series! Hello Halo community, you're about to have a new recruit join the ranks soon.
Halo has meant so much to me, and as over the top as it might sound, has shaped my life in some ways. If you're going into the series the best thing I can tell you is try to be a kid again, having am adult view of things always messes with the way i play games now, but halo always draws out the way things used to be to me

@@JoshOwensMusic Thank you I really appreciate that! ^o^ And yeah I've been doing research for about the past four or five months now and I've even been looking at the outside material such as the novels as well. When it comes to Halo 5 343 screwed up I'm not just the gameplay elements but a lot of the story had in consistencies at times and just felt poorly written in comparison to other games. But I'm pretty sure the team has something good in store for the all new Halo infinite. In terms of the storytelling I really do feel a strong connection with Halo Reach's story. The fact that the entire story is about holding your ground and fighting non-stop all well knowing in the back of your head that you will die. That is a very gritty yet harsh reality on what serving in the military truly is about. Soldiers fight protect and died for their home it's all within the line of duty. Harsh, cruel, yet true.
@@Wolfstanus Nope. just to hear some marines talking, swearing or even telling to the player about them in other language, it would be funny, like the portuguese marine of Halo 5. Plus, is named the United *NATIONS* Space Command, it would make sense to see multi-national marines
@@hozcar30 for coordination purposes they will probably stick to English as their main method of communication but hearing some insults in different languages could be fun and interesting.
One of my biggest fantasy's as a kid was honestly being a gritty ground soldier in a war against fantastical aliens, almost like saving Private Ryan with the antagonist being weird imaginative interesting things after growing up with movies like aliens and starship troopers. The Marines and ODST's sold that fantasy to me as a reality, I've always love these soldiers and that's part of the reason Halo 5 was a disappointment since I didn't have my beloved UNSC military forces
A long-time strategy of mine to complete Legendary levels with Marines is to equip them with the best weapons available like you indicated. They'll survive longer and, help you that much more. If possible always give the Marine in the warthog passenger seat a rocket launcher or, Spartan Laser.

"Cheif! Thank god you're here. After we lost contact with the rest of the mission, we headed for the RV point and these-these things! They ambushed us! We gotta get outta here." The Halo CE marine design has always been my favorite. And while I get that the whole 'armour plates strapped on' look is kinda silly, It makes sense given its inspiration from Starship Troopers, and the fact that I imagine steel plate's just a bit more less likely to burn when hit by plasma as opposed to kevlar and the like, and possibly even deflect it... also because I've played Halo CE PC to death and I'm too used to it now. X3 I hope someone mods in the ability to dress the marines up in that classic look when the games come out on PC, I mean hell, someone even commissioned a guy on Artstation to create a more modern render of what the marine armour might look like, and it's great; www.artstation.com/artwork/ExDKn
that is gorgeous... theses classic marine is what made me fell in love with Halo... the original CE design for UNSC personnel were gorgeous. Armored marine, colored suit for the navy, Keyes uniform... It's kind a shame CE anniversary didn't manage to bring back those design. I love the Reach uniforms, but they seem a bit too buff. It looked fine for the marine wearing their armor, but the rendition of the fatigue was just terrible. And Keyes seriously had a downgrade: he seems way younger and he constantly like he have a stick up is butt.

@@simsargamand7691 Halo 2 has the best marines imo
I was just thinking this as I was watching the video. I missed that so much in Titanfall 2
Titanfall is the only series in recent memory that comes close filling me with the same charm and cheer of the original Halo trilogy.

I couldn't love more the fact that the ODSTs don't despawn and actually fight alongside you trough the whole level

The thing I love about the halo marines is that they remind me of actual marines in combat environments. Even more so when we see something big and powerful join us in combat. I loved this video it truly highlights something I think has gone relatively unnoticed in what helps makes halo great.
The Marines are unironically one of my favorite parts of Halo.
It's like a beautiful katamari of guns.
The marines from Reach are a personal favorite of mine, you can “recruit” them to be in your squad and you can see their name and rank at the bottom of the screen which gives them more character despite being mere NPC’s
I always challenge myself to go through an entire mission without any of my marines dying and I would go into a blood fuelled rage when I see when get gunned down by a cocky Jackal or Brute
This video is adorable what the heck

"I bleed more than this on a daily basis"
-Halo 2 female Marine
I miss the ungodly accuracy of the Marines from the earlier titles. Delta Halo of Halo 2, gave all the ODST rocket launchers and sniper rifles and they were pegging things on the other side of a room before I even knew what was there. Similarly in Halo 3, load up the troop carrier Warthog with heavy weapon marines and you were just a death blossom of munitions. A marine on a Gauss Warthog turret also basically had sniper accuracy at unlimited range, killing the drivers of some vehicles without harming the vehicle itself. They have been really toned down in recent titles though.
That really made warthogs on solo feel so great to drive.
CE sniper marines are sniper jackals on crack
In Halo 2 I would often avoid giving launchers and fuel rods to my allies since they would often end up blowing themselves up.
My favorite Marine line is Sergeant Johnson in Halo 2 when you take the Sniper Rifle from him at the beginning of the level Outskirts
"I thought we were friends!"
I sometimes swap weapons back and fourth with him until I hear him say that beautiful line, just for that one line.
"Halo wouldn't be half as fun without the Marines"
*Looks at Halo 5*
Exactly
Yeah he’s not wrong
You're thinking about the level "The Covenant". Pretty iconic.

TerahStarGaming lol that’s so dope and wholesome
Beautiful words...
Masterchief: "I keep onto my virginity, so they can keep onto their family."
“HOW ARE YOU STILL ALIVE?!”
"This is just like shooting swaprats back home"
Also, everytime I play Tsavo Highway, I always go for the troop carrier hog and hand every single marine on board a beam rifle or fuel rod gun.

And yeah I've been doing research for about the past four or five months now and I've even been looking at the outside material such as the novels as well.

I know right, one of my biggest disappointments of Halo 5 was the lack of the loyal UNSC marines
"I've got a bloodthirsty cyborg! What have you got?!"
A long-time strategy of mine to complete Legendary levels with Marines is to equip them with the best weapons available like you indicated. They'll survive longer and, help you that much more. If possible always give the Marine in the warthog passenger seat a rocket launcher or, Spartan Laser.
I’ve been watching for years and idk if this is a complement or an insult but this is now my favorite video you’ve made, it’s very well written, very funny, warm, and thoughtful

The Halo CE marine design has always been my favorite. X3
I hope someone mods in the ability to dress the marines up in that classic look when the games come out on PC, I mean hell, someone even commissioned a guy on Artstation to create a more modern render of what the marine armour might look like, and it's great; www.artstation.com/artwork/ExDKn
that is gorgeous... theses classic marine is what made me fell in love with Halo... the original CE design for UNSC personnel were gorgeous.
Ugh you reminded me of the starship troopers disappointment. It’s sad how the movie turned out
