Dude how did I not think of this what a great idea and video lol thank you. I’ve been looking all over the internet for something simple and useful like this
I was meant to see this video tonight...wow! Amazon cart full of humidity domes and I've got sterilite totes scattered around my basement 🤦♂️ Thank you for connecting the not-so-obvious dots! Im not watching these in any order but I appreciate the consistency and quality of all your videos. You are truly in your element🤙
I love this video. I really wish you would have shown the finished project with your plants inside and your light set up. I’m assuming using an led grow light with this will be okay.
I didnt think to use this for my orchids! thanks! I think too for plants that are big like that Just buy one of those really really large totes and keep them in there!
The easiest way to cut theses if you do not have an electric saw use a hairdryer on the part you want to cut and it will make the plastic really soft so you can slice through it like a peice of bread with the Stanley knife.
I am going to see about using some net pots on the original lid with a humidity dome top. Now if I can sort out some sort of airstone and nutrients this could help me get a start on spring.
I would just like to say that a Dremel or similar tool is so worth the money for any do it yourselfer. Save time and would make the job more professional. Aside from that this is a great [project idea. I might incorporate this humidity dome on my upcoming diy aeroponics cloner project.
If on a smaller scale, you can buy a $5-$10 roast chicken and use the container/dome. Wipe and clean it out while still warm to make it easy. Eat the chicken, obviously.
What do you think about the dome being translucent and not transparent? Or am I’m I just being too fussy. It being frosted glass like, how far of a stage did you keep your seedlings in that dome. Did it affected the foliage growth........thanks!
i set led lights right on top and all my plants turned nice and red ( carnivorous plants ) so i know they are getting more than enough light. I dont think youll see a big issue
Or a jig saw or drywall saw. Sawzall is a bit aggressive but if you have all the tools you might as well use them...now I have to buy a plastic hot knife ;-)
heres an idea use a water atomizer in the bottom so you only need to fill it an inch of liquid above it and it fills the bottom with water mist - really cool actually you can scoop it lol
next time you get plastic burrs, just take the razor at a 30-45deg angle, pointed away from you and draw towards yourself. You can shave a bevel that can be swiped off with some high-grit sand paper later. It will also allow you to "whittle" away imperfections in your initial cut, if you're not pre-marking with transfer paper.
Do you ever have a problem with mold on top of the soil? I made something similar to this for my Pink Princess but now there is always mold on top of the soil.
I agree and also do you have been oil on hand? That will kill larvae and most fungus associated with plants. Hydrogen peroxide is great too but will kill the good bacteria as well.
Thanks so much for this GREAT IDEA! I pride myself on creative thinking, but never thought about doing a dome like this.....VERY nice! The clone machines and domes on the market now are ABSURDLY EXPENSIVE....as all the companies want to gouge your cannabis dollar out of you!! SHAME ON THEM! I will be building this soon...and all those clone machine gougers can kiss my backside forever!!
Ive found some bins will just sit on top of each other pretty well but they wont make a good seal like this method. But if you ahve trouble cutting just find two bins that can sorta rest on each others handles that are "inside" the container if that makes sense
Put a blow dryer in the storage box to warm it up a few minutes. Keep it on and cut the storage box and it'll be a lot easier. It'll save time and energy my guy.

No problem! Good luck on your build
That’s what I was about to say! This is an awesome idea!

Yup i just set a panel on top, i keep carnivorous plants in it
Tried this and it works great for phalaenopsis and oncidium orchids as well.. thanks for this idea!

..Just made this tonight it was $7 and some change..my “clone box” is 14in tall.. the prices for the ones that’s already built are insane..THANK YOU..
nice!
6 mile: 14" high for clones? I was going to go 7-in. do you think that's too short?
you should get yourself a Dremel kit with some nice various cutting and grinding bits.
sad thing is i have one, i dont know why i didnt think to use that lol
Awesome idea and video!
@@KurtHamalai thanks

Yeah I need to get one!

Great! All the stuff arrived from the giveaway. Thanks a lot! Already started on a project. Looking forward to share with you. Great video.
Awesome Idea!! What about air after germination....is just removing the top a few times a day sufficient?
Its so large you wouldn't have to do it every day
Tks for sharing this tutorial with us
Thanks for watching!
amazing video, beautiful human
Great video!

A drilled hole and a Copeing Saw may work too. Alternatively Sheet Metal snips may also work
sheet metal snips sound like a good idea

Should I add air holes on the top?

Nice, thanks for the tips!
I thought maybe a butane torch would work as long as you work promptly.
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
Nice build ...
Nice dom. What kind of humility machine are you using for your carnivorous plants ?
None, once i set a light on top, the heat makes the water evaporate really well and the dome is coated with water droplets
@@TechplantChannel Wonderful, thank you for the information.
Does this work with bonsai plants by any chance? I have a ginseng ficus at home and it's looking a little rough and I need a humidity system in place.
i dont see why it wouldnt, its going to be VERY high though like 95%
Do you ever have a problem with mold on top of the soil? I made something similar to this for my Pink Princess but now there is always mold on top of the soil.
no but i have just sphagnum moss which is kinda sterile in a way and doesnt really mold or rot. Regular dirt i would air out more
I agree and also do you have been oil on hand? That will kill larvae and most fungus associated with plants. Hydrogen peroxide is great too but will kill the good bacteria as well.
Could sodder the lid instead of attempting to cut it and dulling the blade a bunch

what did you use for vent?
What a fucking awesome idea!!
Ima make one for clones!!
Yup works good for larger plants and its a lot more sturdy than some other seed starting trays you can buy
Put a blow dryer in the storage box to warm it up a few minutes. Keep it on and cut the storage box and it'll be a lot easier. It'll save time and energy my guy.
your black tote link is broken. does the tote have a part # on it?
.36 seconds in sterilite 1484 black- 10 Gallon Modular Stacker Tote
Tutorial #2 How to self suture a deep laceration
what a better way to learn then on yourself lol
Venus fly trap home yeah!
Im keeping my sundews in there currently!
Nice
Do you still have this?
Yeah it works amazing for my carnivorous plants. I add water like once every 6months and then just ignore it lol
Could of just used the lid as catch tray under dome and save the bin itself for something else... Zero cutting too lol
Yeah this is very valid for more use cases. I made mine for carnivorous plants so they need to sit in a few inches of water.
I WOULD DEFINITELY BUY ONE OF UR HOMEMADE HUMIDIFIER DOMES THAN ORDERING OFF AMAZON 👌💯® NETA LOL GUD SHIT FOO
Id need a way better way of making it plus, shipping would cost so much but i appreciate the kind words
Iv done similar, clone into a small plant pot then used a clear cup as the dome... hoping it will work 😂
it should! they are essentially the same thing. Good luck with your clones!
Umm should have used a jig saw power tool 🤷🏽♂️
yeah probably
should have used a poke saw. 3 bucks and call it a day
Im not really sure what that is, but ill look it up, thanks for the suggestion!
Tim Barnes you're correct. probably one of the most handy tools for diy projects involving plastic. besides making a hot wire.
guy you dont cut flat like that lol. stab it first then work the saw action ...or heat up an old knife and melt cut
Carbon blade
