I do not get why this became a controversy. Yemaya is black! The oldest depiction of a mermaid. Normally I would say that a new Afro culturally related character would be great but should it even matter? Also, the concept of mermaid is actually African. I grew up in the Caribbean as a child and mermaid deities and legends were always a part of the African myths passed down from the slaves brought. It was actually culturally appropriated from Western Africa where salt water and river mermaids always form of the stories: either they resemble a hybrid of snake and sea tail like creatures. Even the spirit Yemaya is represented as a mermaid and she goes even farther in origin. It’s kind of like returning the mermaid back. In addition, look at the original cartoon : she is Caribbean ( my sister is a redhead and We are mixed with my cousin being a black ginger ). Who cares?! Mermaids weren’t normally from the Caucasus since there are no oceans and seas near the top of those mountains. No mermaids come from coastal places where there are darker people. Danish were influenced by their subjects as they influenced others. It’s normal for peoples to influence or another

Their new mask is “it’s erasing the Gingers”. The same white people who created the term and made fun of them for it😭

I really don’t care about who acts in what, if you can act we’re good, except Iron man as a black man I want him to be left alone😂 but I hate when they change animated to real, animate a black mermaid and let her be the voice actor, it looks stupid just like lion king, if they want to make live action make a new character or a different movie why copy a movie and make me pay for it again, I just want new characters with a good story but we keep paying for average remakes and we just accept it instead of putting a standard, it’s like the Netflix live action of one piece, why? Imagine seeing Luffy in Gear 4 Tankman live action that shit would look retarded😂 I’m not watching this anyway since I’m not the target audience but I know this is coming to anime more and more and it just looks like shit.

Hmmmmm I love you but I disagree. I don’t think people are mad that the little mermaid is black. The problem is erasing characters based off their Race. They erased the original Ariel. I think some don’t like it not because she’s black but because erasing Ariel because she’s white is Racist in itself. Now the memes are ridiculous and I don’t condone racist memes or tweets. Much love to you brother.

Think about this though! Ariel's race has nothing to do with her story. Disney decided to design her the way they did but it doesn't make or break anything. I think people genuinely are upset about Ariel being played by Halle because she's black hence all the racist jokes. If people were upset about a “race swap” (Which I believe they just use this term to cover up the fact they're racist) then they would have better ways to express so. And people mentioned characters like Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, and Moana whose race/ethnicity all have something to do with their story. And it's already been said that the author of The Little Mermaid was Danish but Ariel would have looked nothing like she did if Disney wouldn't have changed it so not much to argue about there except for most of them are just racist! Plain and simple.

@@stephaniemills_fanpage some outraged can be because they’re Racist that’s fair but the ones who are outraged because they’re trying to erase white characters in the name of inclusivity and diversity have a good case. I can see why they think that.

The reason for the HATE is that Hollywood feel the need to REPLACE every movie that originated with WHITE people …..now with BLACKS instead. People have NO problems with Black Panther movie. Perhaps get MORE historical or fables out of AFRICA and make movies out of that! How do you feel if they make a movie of MARTIN LUTHER KING with Christian Bale?????

You know how DUMB that statement is Martin Luther King is a real person 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Ariel is a FAKE mermaid 🤣🤣🤣🤣
