G’day Kerry, I’m an Aussie Vietnam Vet, woodworking is my hobby and therapy. I have recently started woodturning, so far making pens and wooden boxes for the pens. Also a Queenslander. I have just found your UA-cam channel, subscribed and hoping to learn. Got some good tips about setting up my turning section.

Very nice. Nice big shop. Got to have puppers around the shop. Mines a 115 pound lab. He helps me with some of my disabilities.

Nice to see a “real” workshop used to be productive. I don’t understand why the sorry pro sharpener, I love mine. So fast to touch up and keep tools sharp. I keep mine one step away too. Heal quickly, looking forward to more videos
I can’t exactly remember saying sorry but I love my sharpeners. I’m just charging it up so I can freehand sharpen everything. So if I have to do a demo anywhere I can do freehand sharpening and not rely on gigs. Cheers mate have a lovely day
So sorry about your injury. Always gives me pause to hear an experienced turner get injured. I think a safety video is in your future. "My MIL's broom handle" made me smile. I have been thinking about adding a rolling cart (trolley). Still thinking about the requirements. To heavy with too many accessories can reduce the useability.

Thanks for the tour. I just started woodturning this year and I'm picking a lot of tips from these types of videos. I'm come from metal engineering and machining so there is a lot to learn about woodturning. I have setup my sharpening grinder close to the lathe so that is one thing that is efficient.
I hope the hand gets better quickly so you can get back onto the lathe.

Uh oh ... you made me look at my lathe-cave setup! Sadly, there's little I can do in a 3x2 metre garden shed! I think I may have redefined the word 'Clutter'🤣
I was actually surprised myself mate. I didn’t even clean up before this video. I think you nailed the first point though, is to have a dedicated spot for your lathe which is really important; and on a solid floor. Cheers mate I hope you’re well and looking forward to the Christmas break.
Well, the shed is about as solid as a garden shed gets. I just turned a dirty great vase about 40cm by 20cm, it stood up to the test... so far. Yeah, looking forward to a few weeks of lathe time (I do of course mean family time!!) 😅 Great to see you back in the workshop, even if it's a guided tour... and a really helpful tutorial on what works best for you. When I upgrade to a Palace like yours, I won't know what to do with all that room! See you on the next vid! 👍

I got my Vicmark 240, maybe 5 years ago. I like it for bowls better than my Robust American Beauty. Love the 3 speed ranges, and how the slowest speed is about 10 rpm. I need that for power sanding my once turned warped bowls. Never could adjust to turning bowls on a long bed lathe. Had sliding headstocks forever...
100% agree that swivel headstock makes a huge difference to comfort and the overall turning experience. Do you have the outboard tool rest for it? I've been waiting to get one for a while now. Interested to hear how it goes. Cheers mate.

I do have the outboard tool rest. It is great if I would ever turn a table top maybe. For standard bowl turning, it isn't very user friendly. Much easier to use the banjo on the lathe. Moving the outboard rest is rather awkward.

Hi Kerry, sorry to gear about your hand mate,hope all goes well with the recovery process as I know it can be frustrating not being able to get back to turning. Its good to see a realistic workshop, good one. Also I have just purchased a Sherwood lathe on cast iron stand(legs) and i too like to put things on castors,any suggestions on what to get as not sure if i drill into the cast iron will it ruin the integrity and strength of the iron.

Bandsaw accidents are best…compared to the other wood working tools where you loose fingers and body parts!
