(i know I'm late but...) I want to think that low-key, it was Connor who said that, even if it was in Evan's head. Like, nobody wants to be forgotten and nobody deserves to be, so Connor is pushing Evan to keep his memory alive. Like when Connor is singing "that doesn't mean you're not..." and Evan interrupts him, I feel like he stopped signing, encouraging Evan like "yes! you got it, now go and spread my words"

the fact that they talk about how everyone talks about a kid who dies for like a week and then forgets them is so true. We had a guy OD last year and they talked about him for a week and that's the closest i've seen my whole school. a week after he passed, everyone forgot him.
I haven’t looked at this comment in 3 years and I just read all of the responses I got. I am so sorry for all the loss you all have seen in your lives. I hope you all have had time to heal and mourn these people who we’ve tragically lost. Just know that they all will never be forgotten seeing as I now know their names and stories. This song is probably one of the saddest in the play for me. It's just so sad that Connor could have been saved, he was so young and sad. He could have lived a long life but no one tried hard enough to help him and he couldn't take it. It really bothers me..
The funny thing about that is when you looked at what happened this musical could have taken a very different route. Not one of tragedy but one of a blooming friendship between to loners that have no one else to lean on after Connor. Or in other words the friendship that Evan made up.
anime fan The cut songs could be taken as canonical proof that they did attempt to get Connor help (thru therapy and meds), and the outburst before Words Fail is proof Larry didnt want him doing it which is likely a large part of the reason he does not get the required help and thus self medicates and later commits suicide.

Okay, so I've heard many great things about this musical, and I found out that the cast recording came out today. I started listening to this playlist absolutely blind to the story, but this song has already touched me in a way that I'll never forgotten. This was the first time I've ever listened to this song and I'm glad that this musical found its way into my life.

There was a kid named Wyatt who died over spring break, our school didn't even mention him once. The only people who cared were the students, and even then, not too many students really cared, even though he was always nice to everyone and was an overall great person.
It's really sad and I wish that people thought about these kids the same way they do when there's a school shooting.
One child's life doesn't mean any less because of the way they died, but no one even mentioned his name once and it's so sad
I'm sorry to hear about what happened to Wyatt. Even if the people at your school didn't seem to care, people do care about Wyatt and he will be missed. I pray he is in a better place now.
It seemed every day (in my graduating class of 2018) one student committed suicide every school year. My personal opinion, suicide is a cowardly way out but I can understand they feel hopeless, ignored--that all they would be good for is to disappear. I'm here to say this--suicide is not the answer. There will forever be people like myself who are willing to help. People are so consumed in their own lives that they don't realize how their behavior affects others. The dude who killed the 17 people in the Parkland School Shooting (which led to a school shooting fear and threat at my high school) was bullied himself. One of the survivors admitted to it. That's disgusting. You knew he was bullied but you did nothing about it? Seventeen innocent lives were taken because the survivors stood there, watching as the guy was being bullied--students who commit suicide (and don't commit school shootings) need to make the news. Need to make headlines. More people need to be aware.
Then being that kid the light nobody else is giving them. Knew them or not nobody deserved to be forgotten. So instead of complaining about how sad it is do something for him. Make people care

For me personally, this musical speaks to me on an emotional level. Maybe I'm not in any of the characters' exact situations, but sometimes I listen along and can feel everything the characters are feeling. Like sensing the pain in regret in Evan in 'Words Fail', or the angst in the Broadway recording of 'Requiem' coming from Zoe. It's almost as if I'm there.
Just wait until you see it live---I got to see Hamilton AND DEH live not back to back but my god is Hamilton a great musical as is DEH

I just realized something. In the beginning when Evan and Connor are singing, they are always either unison or singing in a perfect harmony with each other, no suspensions or clashes. Maybe this is because Connor in this scene isn't actually Connor, but Evan's imaginary Connor. This means that while they sing this duet, they have the same ideas and intentions, they are in agreement. So, there are no clashing notes, only complementary harmonies. However, when Evan is singing with Jared, Alana, etc., there are quite a few suspended chords and cluster chords at certain points. This makes a lot of sense when you think about all of the differing thoughts and intentions of the characters. Evan sees this as a way to help Connor and the memory of him, but Evan almost feels like he has to do this, since he is supposedly Connors "best friend." Jared knows the truth as well, and is pretty much going along with Evan. It is clear that Jared doesn't take it as seriously, though. Alana doesn't know the truth of their false friendship; she just cares enough about people feeling seen, and so she decided to help. At this point, everyone has differing perspectives on the same topic, and some of their ideas clash. That is where the suspensions come into play. Idk maybe it's just me, but I feel like it was at least somewhat intentional.

Like this part is so important to me because I always feel like I have to be something special and that I always have to impress everyone. It reminds me I don't have to live up to everyone's expectations. Its just really important to me
I feel you, I spent my whole life trying to impress others and please them so I felt a bit better. I try not to do this anymore and live for myself. We don't need to be impressive to matter.
The most special of impacts takes place in the most insignificant of times.
Absolutely heartbreaking that they cut this from the movie, to me it has the most important message of the musical, even more than you will be found. Because sometimes you won't be found but you still matter.

I for one have suffered a loss of my mother. It was a hard time. Sometimes I feel like, I should just go to her. Though every time I think of doing that, I think of my friends and family. I imagine them when I'm gone. What if they do the same for me? I know that it's hard, I could've lost my little brother too. It hurts, I'll never get over it. Just know we have people and animals to help us. We were put with evil humans (the bullies) and the others (some by standers, some up standers) it was for a reason, so why leave, and just throw away things? Take some time to realize what you're about to do. Talk to someone. Ask someone for help. Trust me, don't leave this world help it.

A girl at my school died last year, my entire school made several displays all throughout the school. After about two months of my entire school be close, the school just stopped talking about it, and all the things we made in the school for her were taken down. And nobody really cared about it, until people started to just started to decline in school work and behavior. Everyone kept going to the guidance counselor and then everyone realized what was wrong. Everyone was all depressed that she was gone so they canceled a day of school to let everyone moirn.

Hi, I don't know whether anyone will read this, but this song helped me through a really tough time. My boyfriend ditched me and my grades were dropping lower than hell and I was kind of looking for a purpose. This song made me realize what I really want to do with my life. I am now planning to go to acting school, move to Winnipeg and make a stage adaptation of my favourite musical there. I want to get it more known again. I've already revived the fandom on Tumblr. So now I'm trying irl.

I still suffer with depression and panic from past trauma but things are getting a lot better lately. It’s like being unable to see anything but dark shades of grey your whole life a place where everything feels wrong or like somethings missing. Then suddenly you realize that the world you’ve been missing out on is a world full of color, one that you have to work your way into slowly trying not to slip away from the path or give up completely no matter how far away the light and color and laughter seems.
I want to let you all know that death is not an option because you are strong and no matter how hard it gets or how much it hurts it will all be in vain if you give up or turn back. So, keep moving forward and stay focused on the light even when it’s dim just know that it is there waiting for you to walk out the other end. Waiting to greet you and carry you into that land of color. You cannot let go of a life you never got to live and if you have to see yourself as selfish in any way just ask yourself who are you really? What defines you as a person? And I guarantee that you haven’t come up with not even one real positive right? It’s because you’re blaming yourself for the pain you feel when in reality you have no reason to feel that guilt, if you need help all you need to do is reach out and grab on to something or someone out there. No matter what always hold on and hold on and hold and never ever let go because you are worth it. Who you can be and who you want to be all of your dreams your ambitions and hopes no matter how childish it is they are all worth it, you are worth it and don’t ever forget that.
I just wanted to let you know that you aren’t alone in your guilt and shame, it isn’t normal or healthy and if you’re feeling this pain we’re all here to help. You aren’t waisting our time and you aren’t bothering us no in fact we’d all be less of a whole if you left us. You’re important you’re a piece of the puzzle that makes up a life and a family and you are loved no matter what.

Last week, one of my closest friends was murdered in his own home. I've been having a hard time dealing with it, but I suddenly realized, this song reminds me so much of him. I'll never forget him, that way he'll never disappear. I know I'll see him again some day.

this song hit me hard for a few reasons. during my school experience this year along with last year, I cut a lot of my connections of because I thought I didn't deserve friends. I thought I should just fade away. I realize now that I am here for a reason, and while I don't need to figure out why, I still matter, and deserve happiness. those connections eventually got tired of me and decided behind my back I wasn't worth talking to. I again assumed that was me and my fault. I now have an amazing best friend who has made me realize that no one deserves to be forgotten, including me. love everything you do Avery
