I was a junior at ND in fall 2001 and at this concert. This was easily the most emotional, intense concert moment I've ever had. Less than a month after 9/11? NY cops and firefighters on stage? Wow. Absolutely incredible. I'm getting chills right now seeing this again and writing this. I kinda liked U2 before this show, but this was the greatest concert I've ever been to, hands down. It would be hard to top this given that time of my life, and with what was going on in the world at the time.
Lucky for me, I was listening to the rehearsal outside the Joyce the night before and got to shake Bono's hand and get his autograph. It was a religious experience for me to see my favorite band in one of my favorite places in the world. I actually got to see this show twice that year. Awesome.
Every album is different. U2 is unique in the fact they try to try different sounds and seems as they are discovering new things about themselves through the lyrics they wrote, no line on the horizon was a great album as well as songs of innocence. You just have to play it over and over, absorb it, dissect it. There are many different meanings go their songs. Yes this concert, elevation after 911 brought me to my knees, the emotion was raw. The sincerity and love from the band to everyone as well the firefighters etc., was very moving. I did love this album, Every time I hear Kite I think of my father who died in 1995, losing a parent is always devestating, losing them when you yourself are just 21 It is earth shattering. So their was a lot about this album that I connected with, because the theme was loss and Death. Obviously I was relating to that.
wow!it's just couldn't be better!i have to admit that they were playing with version peace on earth ,bono prefers that version a lot!thankyou for the video!Kick ass band!
This was the 1st show U2 put on in US right after 9/11. I had such amazing seats for this show! With this, it was their first attempt at a tribute to these heroes. How can you not get political when you know that some of these very guys walking on the stage probably got sick from the debris and yet Reps blocked their aid just because it was something Obama was fighting for. No wonder this country is gridlocked.Great posts check out others from same concert! A cathartic show for a grieving nation.
