I met Durrell and his wife at an event at Pursell Farms in 2022. What incredible Ambassadors they are for our beloved sport. It is truly a way of life and they exude it with such class.
I really love everything Meat Eater is putting out. This show is a great combination of the hunt and the feast. The only thing I wish would improve is the sound/mixing quality of this show. There were times watching this episode that I could barely hear Danielle over the background music and guest comments. The last scene is a perfect example. I really wanted to hear her take on the experience (narration) but couldn't over the music and table chatter. Kevin's mic was overdriven while Danielle's voice could barely be heard. Overall, everything produced and released under the Meat Eater brand is phenomenal. Please keep up the great work and the great entertainment. We thank you for your awesome contribution for us to watch.
Just left a comment about this. The previous episode had echoes in the audio in certain places as well. Really hope they address these issues and fix them. Really want this series to work, but if I have to constantly turn the audio up and down and replay sections, I'll just stop watching. The content is really good, but the audio is just really bad. Not something you see on any of the other videos they put out.
@Mod Zilla The biggest part is when she's doing narration. That's easily fixable in the editing stage. Someone just wasn't paying attention to details of the audio. They have other issues as well in other videos with audio, so it's likely the editor isn't fully checking their work.
I was thinking the same thing. I think what I like about him is he doesn't have that overconfident air, he seems like the dude next door who just so happens to be a badass hunter.
The MeatEater team is really hitting their stride. I loved this episode, Das Boat is killer, getting Ryan to come on was a boon as well. Keep up the great work, Steve and the whole team. Not sure it's worth living in NYC though. It Does put you close to some very nice fishing and hunting; just a very different style.
My Son (he isa Tip of The Mitten 12 yrold) & I dont miss any of these off of the UA-cam ... Great Group of Outdoorsmen and Outdorrswomen,.. The Cooking is Top Shelf every time ,,,, Cant Wait for the next serious Stuff From Das Boat or Crabsand Shrimp out of Alaska Seas... Great Quail Hunt ! Love to see The Pointing Dog s on the Job
@@lines1nwax honestly best guess.. when he has it over his shoulder it the barrels look very small.. and then when he unloads it in some shot... the shell looks like a 410 to me. But I've been around more 410 than 28
Kevin’s speech about they had aged a bit more cracked me up. Love what you are doing with all the content Meat Eater! Haven’t bought hear from y’all to support these!
anyone who doesn't know the taste of quail.... I gotta say.. it is one of the best taste in my memory. soy sauce + honey + ginger merinande grilled with lump charcoal = mellow in your mouth
Right on the money, glad you keep the home spun wisdom in the episodes like the original meateater. It’s the reverence for the wild, outdoors, and those we share our life with, that keep me coming back
An under appreciated aspect of this series is how it subtly highlights hunting, and the outdoors, is for everyone. No matter a person’s gender, race, upbringings, location they can find a way to enjoy nature and the harvest it offers. Also, emphasis on the subtle- it’s nice just being like a matter of fact and not pushed in ones face.
I agree. I've noticed that on the last two episodes. The music is WAY too loud while the voices are hardly audible. I watch these episodes because I want to learn more about hunting and cooking, not to listen to music.
Just a guy from the mountains named Alan Benton?! I feel Benton's Country Hams deserves a true shout out as it truly is my favorite bacon in the world and I always pickup a haul every time I am back home in East TN. Their smoked bacon is unreal.
As a kid on the east coast of Canada back in the 70's we raised quail and pheasant. Specifically the Pharos D1 quail and Chinese ring neck pheasant, I was the only kid in my hood that was raised on pickled quail's eggs and pheasant under glass. My dad would make a fricassee of quail, pheasant and wild grouse that makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
Wonderful experience. I too have been blessed with the opportunity to hunt wild quail in the central mid-west. Sadly, I also did a Georgia hunt a number of years ago on a plantation and they were liberated birds. The challenge simply wasn't there for me. I too love to cook although I do not even approximate the level of the feast offered here-in. I'm so happy you did those quail justice and didn't over-cook them! Durrell, I too hunt with a sweet little 28 SxS! Most folk do not understand how challenging wild quail can be and under-load for the task. I only shoot 28 gauge, 3/4 ounce, 6 shot at wild quail. Too often folk use 7 1/2s (nickel-plated doesn't help) and spend too much time looking for cripples. The birds they do stone are not table fare by my definition - rush their shots - too many pellets in the birds! Thank you for sharing such a tasteful hunt - no pun intended - and with such wonderful people whose passion for our beloved sport is readily perceivable. This past year, I drove 2 solid days to get to my spots in the central mid-west. The crop rotation did not suit quail hunting. As such, I felt guilty targeting the same coveys more than once so....I drove home after 2 days with a total count of 7 quail. This year AZ has been the worst EVER recorded. We hunted 4 outings for a grand total of 3 quail. I simply can't bring myself to shooting birds when I see them in stress like this. My pointer and setter had fun just the same, as did I. Today, I feel even better leaving "seed". I have been training dogs for just over 40 years - some FTChs too. Now, wild bird hunting is my passion and this video had me amped up! Thanks again y'all.
Can I just say...I'll watch as much Kevin Gillespie and Danielle content you can dish out. From a person who has learned more and more about the rich cultural heritage of the black hunting community, I think utilizing Durrell Smith more is also a great addition from someone who has hunting as a perception as a white-dominated activity. In reality, the roots are further from that truth than I ever imagined and the black hunting culture needs to be brought to the forefront and celebrated and educated for future members of both communities
They really hit the nail on the head when it comes to hunting in Georgia. And they're right when they mentioned it being a celebration to run into a covey of wild quail. Ran into some on public land over the summer and it made the trip for my friend and I.
Excellent series from the people, the camera, the hunting information, the cooking and especially the hunting and fishing conservation message practiced. Keep it coming. Appreciate you
Danielle @ Meateater. You may want to edit your voice-over work on this video. In the cooking section, and afterwards, your voice level is low and hard to hear. This continues through the duration of the video. A little volume would probably help out. Love your work with the Meateater team - cheers!
I wish I knew more about quail. They are around me but I have only ran in to them on accident while hunting ducks. They are beautiful and you guys make me want to cook some up!
Great video again. But is it just me or is the music much too loud for Danielle's softer voice? There were times the music was much too distracting and I could hardly hear what she was getting across.
As a 65 year old hunter, I remember when Quail were abundant. Every field was fenced, Hedge rows were common. Big ag. took the habitat away. The loss continues each year. Shame on these people!

Totally agreed on the audio.
Meat eater is wholesome as fuck
Yeah they mix music too loud on all their UA-cam exclusive content. Not sur me if they realize it.

FINALLY A QUAIL VIDEO , MORE UPLAND GAME PLEASE !!!!!
God this is so good. Scratches all the favorite parts of my brain. Hunting, camaraderie, and good food.
Can we just add Durrell to the MeatEater team already?
I was thinking the same thing. I think what I like about him is he doesn't have that overconfident air, he seems like the dude next door who just so happens to be a badass hunter.
I've been actively campaigning for that very thing for the last two years.
@@johnmarkallen9621 what else has he been in? This is the first show I’ve seen him in.
Did you notice he is shooting a .410?
He would be a great addition....Call him....
Sourced is my new fav UA-cam show. The harvesting and cooking of food is content gold.
Danielle is an absolute new favorite cooking show personality. The ethos and care she brings is absolutely refreshing and entertaining.

They were based in Bozeman recently, did that change?
Pretty sure the majority of the MeatEater crew is in Bozeman
I listen to the podcast and they all live in Bozeman for the most part
Danielle lives down in Texas. Mark Kenyon is in Michigan

This was great! I like this series a lot, also, get Durrell his own upland show!
I love eating while watching these videos👍🏿
Love this. Hunting valley quail in California is a whole different game.
Loved the episode, please continue to make more of these. but i think the background music was balanced a little too loud at times.
Agreed
dude has a side by side 410.. fucking dope.
Not only carrying it but knocking down wild quail with it.
I was drooling over that unicorn also
This might be an ignorant question, but how can you tell it's a 410 and not 28-gauge?

Danielle also, she's a beautiful soul
Thank you for sharing my friend for sharing your thoughts and adventures and everyone else
Nice to see Gun Dog Notebook on the channel.
This is a feel good show. Well done. I really appreciate this series and I find Danielle to be very genuine.
These episodes man. So stinking good!
Such a beautiful video - I love the respect and love for the animals and the fact they provide a source of sustenance for us.

Loved everything about this video.
I’ve hunted quail and hunting with a .410 shogun is impressive. Good show.
Loving this series! Don't hunt but love the idea of food it represents!
And the ideas I get for the kitchen! Delicious! 😋😋😋

Loving the series. Glad to see the additional content coming out of Meateater 👍🏼
MEATEATER ECOSPHERE 💪🏼 love all the content, keep it comin’
Makes me hungry watching these episodes 🤤. Looks amazing
Great Video. This was one of my favs. The outro music blasted the final dialog a bit but that could have been my sound or headset.
Great content. The music could be less loud though, it's hard to understand
You can also phase out vocal ranges from the music so they don't clash.
Concordo plenamente.
Excellent episode
Such a great show. Annie Banks Raser, fellow UVM grad, crushing it.
I have always love the meateater show.. Thank you for always entertaining us..

I hunt Bob white quail here in Virginia with a sxs 20 gauge. Fun to hunt and delicious as well. My kids love them 🍽 🍗
Love seeing black hunters.
I’ve been seeing more and more. I don’t necessarily care about the color but more that a new demographic of people are being exposed to this life.
I especially love seeing disabled black hunters. Such an inspiration.

Really loving this show! Fantastic job, every episode if fascinating
Best “every-man” show consistently showcasing the least “every-man-friendly” gear. I’d love to be on the show if only for the $1k in clothes.
Awe your feelings must really be hurt 😢
21:03 is that banana pudding with the browned meringue? That’s home to me
Great show I enjoyed it very much
Only problem is the music makes it hard to hear what the presenters are talking about but keep up the great work
Loving that .410 double barrel Durell is carrying....
This is an absolutely amazing show.
Loved this because we raise quail. Had a hard time hearing Danielle because the background music was louder than she was. Beautiful video though.
