I can remember seeing Woody Harrelson walk through that door in the Cheers Bar way back when - All those years ago ! - And who would have known that young slip of a kid would become - Over the years One of Americas greatest actors ! - He's so versitile & so good at every thing he turns his hand to ! If I see a movie poster & it has Woody in the the credits - I will go out of my way to watch that movie ! I saw this movie last night in fact I stayed and watched it again it was so good - So gritty -So real ! - It's on my DVD list now ! This is a great interview - backpatting - name dropping - But a greatinsight into these guys ! Thankyou for sharing !
Congratulations to the cast and the five actors who were nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor: Sam Shepard, Willem Dafoe, Christian Bale, Woody Harrelson and Casey Affleck. Bale won the award for this category, while Forest Whitaker and Casey Affleck won Oscar's as a leading actor. The director Scott Cooper did an amazing creation based on the screenplay which was born out of a spec script by Brad Ingelsby called "The Low Dweller". It came to Scott Cooper's attention with Ridley Scott and Leonardo DiCaprio attached as producers. Cooper rewrote the script, investing it with his own experiences, notably growing up in Appalachia and losing a sibling at an early age.So glad they changed the ending too. In preview screenings the ending was different as during the final scene more police cars arrive and when Bale shot Harrelson, Bale was shot also by police officers while Whitaker was trying to stop them from shooting him without success. It was sad to think of an Army vet that did three tours in Iraq only to end up being murdered by ruthless and violent criminals of a crime ring in the Northeast criminals on the here in America. Viggo Mortensen was first approached about the role of Harlan DeGroat which eventually went to Woody Harrelson. Woody Harrelson's psychopathic character shows just how much of an amazing actor he's become since is days in Cheers. Nothing better than a movie that hits home and makes you realize just how much there is a struggle in towns like Braddock, Pennsylvania and so many small towns around America. Russell Baze: Come work at the mill. I told you Roach would give you a job. Rodney Baze Jr.: No, man, I'd rather be fucking dead. Fuck the mill. Russell Baze: Fuck the mill.
