  • Many fishermen are opting to fly fish for carp. Graeme likes doing it because they fight hard. In this episode Graeme smashes his PB Carp twice on the fly! Carp put up an awesome fight on the fly gear and you can really have some fun. Graeme goes through the fly fishing basics, including what flies to use, when to cast, what other baits to throw out to attract the carp and how to fight and land carp with a fly rod. We hope you guys enjoy the vid. Thanks for subbing to us, you guys ROCK!

    Just to say this is my favourite way to fish for carp, just to say I've noticed hardly ever any mouth damage to the fish caused by this type of fishing compared to 'typical' methods of fishing for them, remember always check the tippet line for damage & hook sharpness after every fish....

    • @crevice5369
      @crevice5369 4 роки тому

      as long as hooks are the right type of hook and size of hook barbless. and the angler is careful with the unhooking. the fish should always be fine. the problem is careless young anglers more than the tackle iself

    To stop the "rod tip break" when the fish is close, I suggest a longer net in the margin to relieve the acute bend in the tip. 👍🏻

    Great film , nicely exsplained , I had one of my best experiences fishing doing this , Been putting lots of biscuit in for about 1 hr , got them going well on it , fishing about 20 yards out ,see a big mouth heading straight towards me on the bank , gulping biscuits down one after the other , lucky cast and the biscuit fly landed straight in front of him about 1 ft As he continued straight towards my fly , gulp! See the fly disappear into his mouth ! Strike , all hell breaks lose , 20 minuets later , 22lber in the net , fantastic!

    I bet you wont use a spinning outfit again to fish for carp. I love to fish for carp using flyfishing outfit. My fly reel of choice is a orvis rocky mountain the regular version (magnificent drag noise) and fly rod of #4 Fly rod. I started tying deer hair flies to imitate the dog food years ago. But I wont event bother with tying deer hair these days. I cut a piece of foam from a cheap flipflop shaped near the dog food size. It stay on the surface for ever and i dont have to dry the flies constantly. I learned this from my carpping buddy. Color doesnt even matter. They are not seem to be bothered by the color except a Koy. Koy seems to be pickier than the commun carps. Graeme, what i would like to see is if you can take crusians on top water with flies. That is a more interesting challenge.

    hiya can i just say that was yet another awesome vid well done and i like to carp fish and i dont like the whole bivvy set up sit and wait i like to be mobile but i have never fly fished before and was wondering what fly rod would cope with a carp thank you again love your vids

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  7 років тому

      About a 7/8 rated flyrod. Maybe a forward taper floating line if you are starting flyfishing as it will help carry the fly out easier than say,a double tapered line. You are bound to miss a few on the strike until you get used to it,but there are plenty of fly guys out there who nail incredible sizes on a flyrod. I think the World record is a Grass Carp over 60lbs from America,and a 42 pounder from,I recall,Italy.Also heard of a fly angler who got 20 x 20's in one season with fish over 30 !! and that's in the UK..That must be an awesome sight.Trout anglers are also moving over to Carp on fly.

      I think I said in the film,the ones I was using were 30/40 years old.I have used them for trout and bonefish. If I am still catching fish with them why change ? I won't catch any more with new gear.Maybe a lighter reel would be easier on the creaking bones though.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  7 років тому +5

      Double figure tailing Bonefish on the fly,twenty feet from the skiff, or Barbel fishing wading in streamer weed running float through the gaps, Or a 500lb Blue marlin shouldering water as it crashes on a fast trolled Laminar flow lure, Or a double figure Pike that explodes on your lure just as you are about to lift it from the water, Or a float near lily pads sliding away as a Tench moves off with my worm bait....I love it all.That's why I always do all-round angling.Change with the seasons,and keep myself fresh. Could no way lock in to one species alone,it would become a bit boring.

    Don't put floatant on the tippet, not for carp and certainly not for trout. A sunken tippet is what you're after because a sunken line is harder to see for the fish than a floating line. Floating tippet looks like a huge cable on the surface. That's why fly fisherman put river mud on the tippet to remove the glance and to sink it. Other than that very entertaining as always.

    Why would they ban floating baits?

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  7 років тому +1

      Lots of fisheries ban floating baits if they have lots of waterfowl,but I wonder if its also because surface fishing can be extremely deadly....and of course you can just buy a box of dog biscuits from a supermarket to chum them up on the surface.Cheap fishing,cheap bait,a few flies,barely any tackle to lug around,(sell the wheelbarrow !!) and ultimate mobility so you can cover a lot of ground.I love it myself. And there are a lot of anglers who love the challenge of Carp on fly.
