I'm surprised they discontinued the Caprice in the USA so early, they kept selling the Chevrolet Caprice in the Arabian Peninsula, and we even had some models that weren't available in North America. This model I recall seeing all around Saudi Arabia as a regular civilian car, along with the earlier Caprice models which were, and still are, quite prevalent.
Flash_BeeZy Really? Didn't know the Caprice was selling poorly, the car was popular in the early and late 90's, my father even owned an '86 Caprice for some time. Shame to see such a great and prestigious name fade away.
Flash_BeeZy My, my; darn politicians in Australia are just shooting themselves on the foot. No good can come from the automotive industry moving out of Australia; especially considering how car production creates a lot of jobs and wealth.
+flash_beezy, it has nothing to do with legislation and everything to do with unprofitable manufacturing. it's cheaper and easier just to boat everything out here. they are taking a bath against cheap imports.
I can't believe how many people make this mistake! The Cheverolet Caprice isn't the Pontiac G8. Yes, they do share the platform and the whole drivetrain. However, these are different vehicles in the same way I am NOT my brother because we have the SAME parents. The Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle and the middle eastern Chevrolet Caprice are the Holden Caprice. The pontiac G8, the Chevrolet SS, the middle eastern Chevrolet Lumina, and Vauxhall VXR8 are the Holden Commodore.
The Caprice is the long wheelbase one. They were sold as Statesman ("basic" luxury), Caprice (sew fauncey) , and HSV Grange (Superfauncy performance model) The G8/Chevvy SS is the standard wheelbase Commodore. We had em as wagons and pickups too.
As an Aussie who is an avid Holden lover I have to say the Chevy Caprice PPV is a very different car to what we get in Aus. Firstly if you want to see the Aussie version google VE Holden Caprice. The Caprice PPV was based on the VE Commodore Series 2 the Series 1 Commodore was exported to the US as the G8. That interior in the PPV is taken straight out of the base model Commodore which is called the Omega, the engine is from a higher spec performance model most commonly the SS but here we call the engine AFM which stands for Active Fuel Management (Built in Port Melbourne in Victoria in the same place they build the V6 engines and then installed into the body during assembly in Elizabeth, South Australia). That front bumper is also straight off an Omega however all the parts on the body that usually have chrome have been blacked out. The factory Caprice has much more chrome on the body and bumpers with the addition of fog lights. The Caprice in Aus is a luxury vehicle over here you get the option for V8 or V6 and full leather interior including upgraded Bose sound system and full touch screen integration (available on all models however GPS and Maps are optional on Omega and Berlina) Privacy windows anda whole long list of extras for comfort. Basically the Caprice PPV in America has the interior of the Poverty/fleet spec Commodore and the Body of the luxury up spec car. I hope this helped anyone who was curious.

Australian's enjoy a lot of benefits in the workforce because of Unions.... when we stop having Unions the Australian quality of life will be going backwards even quicker than it is now.
Here in Australia, there was the Holden statesman, which was the entry-level luxury barge, then there was the Holden Caprice as the luxury version with the LS1 , the the icing on the cake was the HSV Grange, which was a luxury-sport vehicle. The owner could just go on ebay and purchase the proper centre console from a parts breaker yard here in Aus, that would be much cheaper..
uh a bit of something to keep in mind while editing next time, but when you were talking about the history of the caprice and you added the "I don't have any free- use footage" since it was sliding and not just immediately there it made me lose track of what you were saying.
Blaine Bugaski GM do a lot weird testing and development in Aus. I keep seeing weird cars around with "THIS VEHICLE IS A LEFT HAND DRIVE" and " CAUTION TEST VEHICLE". They're using some of the factories near where I live to get wheel alignments and fabrication. I chased this thing for 15 mins the other day trying to get a picture but he panicked and ran, just floored it from me. Looked like Buick badges. Could've been Chinese Buick.
Yep. This a long wheelbase sedan, V8 version of what was the standard taxi/fleet/cop car. We could get LS3s, L77, and a couple of locally built V6s. Pickup bodies, short wheelbase sedans and also a station wagon. Production finished in October 2017, and that was the end of our car industry.
The Caprice is still the fastest police vehicle on the market. Chargers ain't even faster, then again the Chargers fall apart before hitting their top speed. Now how would you like a Tahoe PPV or SSV?
DMV Miata and Jeep That is correct. Usually they are even more stripped down than the base model to be almost completely utilitarian or allow more dash/center console space for a computer.
SolaceRapier Using an SUV as a PPV is completely stupid to me. If you are in pursuit with someone, how would you feel lumbering down a street weaving through traffic with a Chevy Tahoe or Ford Explorer. they're not even good for paddy wagons... Too big for a PPV but too small for a paddy wagon.
They CAN be. You can get a Ford Police Interceptor Sedan (Otherwise known as a Taurus) with the base 2.0 Ecoboost I4. But it can be optioned to have the same 3.7 V6 from the Mustang or an upgraded version of the 3.5 Ecoboost V6 from the SHO (which allegedly now makes 385hp over the SHO's 365). Basically it's a base Taurus that can have a higher power SHO engine. No wonder it's the fastest police vehicle!
It's really a Holden Caprice/Statesman that's been completely stripped out. In Australia, the Caprice is the top of the line model which now has the same interior as the VF Commodore or Chevrolet SS. Leather seats, swade dash, Bose audio, heads up display etc... The big difference between this and a Pontiac G8 (VE) and Chevrolet SS (VF) is that it is Long Wheel Base, the rear doors are far bigger. The Caprice also has its own chassis code being WM from 2006 to 2013 and the updated models being WN. Statesmen were discontinued for the WN update and instead they sold a Caprice and Caprice V. The interior of these PPV's are also unique they have a VE series 2 dash with Holden IQ but the same as the base model rather than what is used in the standard Statesmen/Caprice where the trim flows into the speedometer and the plastic trim around the audio system is separated from the air vents.
I come back to this video a lot more than I should but after owning 2 of these and one being bone stock and the other being a setup drag car. I wanna say they’re an awesome platform. I’ve had nothing but fun with these cars. They provide a lot of unique stuff with the ability to purchase true holden parts and get the feel of being JDM almost. They’re super easy to make fast and take a beating. The parts aren’t as hard to get as some may believe. All drive train is carried from a standard LS so it can be found anywhere oarts for a 5.3 can be. Same with the transmission. The rear ends are shared bewteen a Chevy ss and a camaro as well as G8 so you can find them pretty easily. Here and there parts are what I’ve found to be weird. I broke a stud off of the front hub and had to wait a few days for a new stud to come back in. Other than that you can pick these cars up for 6-10k depending what you want. Would recommend it to anyone who wants a fun car that fits all of your friends
I love the Action news inspired ending song, brought back warm memories. Oh Wilm PD has a fleet of these but in beige, so finding a de-com one would make having one a super sleeper car
Haven't seen too many of these, especially civilianized. The one time I really got to see one was on the highway, where I watched it launch off the side of the road like a rocket and then I never saw it again. It's ridiculously fast.
The upgraded model to the Chevy🇺🇸2006/17 Caprice🚨PPV (Holden🇦🇺Caprice/Statesman WM) was the Holden🇦🇺2006/17 HSV WM Grange E-Series (1, 2 & 3) &/or Gen-F (1 & 2)!!!
I used to work at a place that built patrol cars (radios, lights, sirens, etc...) And we had to go pick up 8 of these at a dealership 2 hours away and bring them to our shop. man they are absolute rockets, and for a police vehicle, they handle unbelievably well. I wouldn't want to be stuck in one putting around city streets at 35 because they ride pretty rough, but if I was a trooper out on the highway all day, I'd take one in a heartbeat.
Was behind one of these retired bad boys on my commute this morning. For some reason I mistook it as a Malibu but then realized I was pretty sure newer Malibus never got V8s. Now I know it was a Caprice. Thanks!
The LWB Commodore (which this is) has always been offered in two trim packages... The Statesman and The Caprice. This is probably why the PPV was also called a Caprice.
Not sure about the auction, I actually got it from a dealership who got it from a guy who got it from an auction and I paid $15k out the door. So less than that.
ViralHero when we sold our 11's and 12's they brought between 7500-14000 at auction. I paid $8500 for my 12 with lifter tick. $1700 in speed parts later from Rick Crawford and it's a super sleeper now.
My 2005 Mercury Montego (Ford Five Hundred) had an immense amount of interior room compared against my 2001 Crown Victoria. Yet it was about 6" shorter overall. New interiors are much better designed these days.
This car has so much room in it, its unbelievable!!! If you move the front passenger seat all the way forward, you can literally walk in a small circle in the back lol.

I'd honestly rather have one of these over a Charger or Crown Vic or Taurus interceptor. They look meaner and more imposing to me, plus the speed. Back in the 90s the cop car market was dominated by the old B-Body Caprices. Departments loved them so much that a lot of times they'd keep them and fix them up instead of selling them. I think one of GM's biggest mistakes was axing the B-body line. Not just the Caprice, but the Buick Roadmaster and Cadillac Fleetwood were all such great cars.
Our department stopped buying the Caprices this year. Tthey switched over to the Ford Taurus. BIG MISTAKE. The Caprice is really a gem. It's Usain Bolt with cop clothes on. Everything from the seats, to the steering feel, to the suspension is all G8. It even has a performance mode where you can change the transmission behavior and disable traction control. The damn car even downshifts at the entry of a corner so you can be in a lower gear upon exit. When I first got in the Ford Taurus I was so disappointed. So disappointed. For one, the seats are broad and flat. There is literally NO support. The windows are high, the dash is high and buttons too far away, the steering is light and lifeless, and the car is way too slow. I mean, the 3.5L EB is nice, but paired with the dynamics of the Taurus makes you not even want to push the thing. The Caprice however is the complete package. Who says that us police don't want side bolsters? Who said that we don't want a car that's a little firm? The Caprice is firm, and focused. The Caprice is for the officer that goes to the gym. The Taurus, for the guy that has 30 years on and a beer belly so big that he can't find his gun on his belt.
Cecil L: I'm surprised that you're surprised that the Caprice transmission downshifts when entering a corner. It's been a feature on Australian pursuit cars for decades. A friend of mine bought an ex-pursuit Commodore at a police auction in 1984. It did the same thing.

Flash_BeeZy Really? Didn't know the Caprice was selling poorly, the car was popular in the early and late 90's, my father even owned an '86 Caprice for some time. Shame to see such a great and prestigious name fade away.
Sherif El Sharkawy Its has nothing to do with sales, All auto manufacturing is pulling out of Aus thanks to legislation in that country.
Biz-kane. how hard is that to pronounce?
RCR is a dyslexic english major.
When fitted with a big block, they were called a 'BisQuick'
BiS not biz..
"Biz" is also incorrect.
People in Biscayne, FLA must have been overjoyed with this. Keep doing what you do so well Mr Regular
God bless you guys. the fade out music was great. I love the ppv, and I'm so happy you made this video
DId the factory close off in Adelaide?
Count Dracula all HOLDEN local production ceased in 2017. Elizabeth plant in South Australia and Fishermen’s Bend plant in Melbourne now all closed. 😥

I bet you didn't. And over there it's also very unionised in the manufacturing industry.
So stop believing what Turdball and the LNP a saying in Canberra... Australian's enjoy a lot of benefits in the workforce because of Unions.... when we stop having Unions the Australian quality of life will be going backwards even quicker than it is now.

With the same form of no bullshit
When I heard "Zeos", I was like no way. Then I heard the immediate follow up that confirmed it.

They also sold a ton of essentially the same thing in Australia
Benjamin Naismith Chinese Buick?

The chassis was definitely designed and predominantly built in Australia, however, the 6.0 V8 LS is still American made. Not an Australian engine.

The Caprice is still the fastest police vehicle on the market. Chargers ain't even faster, then again the Chargers fall apart before hitting their top speed. Now how would you like a Tahoe PPV or SSV?
No. Wrong. The Taurus is, given it has an EcoBoost.
+Nathaniel Kubaile the Taurus SHOs haul ass but I think most cop cars are base model Taurii
AutoZone for this car sounds like Canadian Tire for all cars.
This is zeos car, damn i didn't know he is that much into cars too
I is what I do.
I clicked on this thinking, “hmm, that looks like Zeos’ car”, and well then.

Oh my god the intro is amazing haha
Best car video I’ve watched in a long time. Makes me think of old Warren Miller videos.
G8, SS, Caprice, and HSV GTS, are amazing cars! 😍
Ashton Burrell, that’s because Americans didn’t lay a finger in them, they were Australian built With pride. We stuck a chev badge on m for yanks.
The Caprice PPV is the Holden Statesman, the Commodore (G8, SS) with longer wheelbase
Captain Kaos And that’s why they all died.
15sec in - already liked.
Looked to see if some for sale, pleasantly surprised that like the first 30 were under about 15 ,12 grand
Was behind one of these retired bad boys on my commute this morning. For some reason I mistook it as a Malibu but then realized I was pretty sure newer Malibus never got V8s. Now I know it was a Caprice. Thanks!
Here in the Middle East you were able to buy the standard non-PPV Caprice LS since 2006, but we also have nicer trims such as the LTZ, SS and Royale
Really like the clean look of this police car version.
these are relatively cheap in Australia. my stepmother has 2 of them.
swb commodores, not lwb statesman/caprice.
@@cruiser6260 what's the difference?

The LWB Commodore (which this is) has always been offered in two trim packages... The Statesman and The Caprice. This is probably why the PPV was also called a Caprice.
I've got a 1985 Toyota Celica GT-S and I want nothing more than for Mr.Regular to review it.
How much do these go for at auction?
3.50
Not sure about the auction, I actually got it from a dealership who got it from a guy who got it from an auction and I paid $15k out the door. So less than that.
ViralHero when we sold our 11's and 12's they brought between 7500-14000 at auction. I paid $8500 for my 12 with lifter tick. $1700 in speed parts later from Rick Crawford and it's a super sleeper now.
Z Reviews wow! I just bought a G8 with 7k miles and with my trade in it was $13k. I love it
7k miles???? wtf
Chevy... as American as Vegemite pie.
I believe you when you say it's faster than the Crown Vic Police Specials, but it's probably not as roomy.
Actually it is the largest interior of any available police sedan. The back seats are huge.
My 2005 Mercury Montego (Ford Five Hundred) had an immense amount of interior room compared against my 2001 Crown Victoria. Yet it was about 6" shorter overall. New interiors are much better designed these days.
Yep I love mine. Just picked it up in March with 12,000 miles on it. I had 50 idle hours on it.
The Caprices suspension back in the day was garbage

3:51 "How high does this rev?!"
