It always makes me sad when a well-intentioned Christian thinks, "I'm going to call these poor misguided atheists and read the Bible to them." Then when faced with the most basic questions about their faith, they sit in stunned silence.
If a xtian ever comes at me with "the bible is true", I am stealing this....I also like Harry Potter references too.... "parts of HP occurred in London, so....."
@@NoSpam1891 Although I tend to agree with you, many would argue that they are Historical and calling them "Novels" is as irresponsible as saying there "Is No God." It requires evidence.
@@Jay-ate-a-bug Actually that's backwards. To prove they are history and not fiction requires evidence. And the books, in the main, are lacking that, but are loaded with sex and violence. Same with god. First define it, then prove it. Unicorns, Bigfoot and Loch Ness monsters are theoretically possible. Gods are not.
Ok, I've been reading the Bible for almost 50 years. It's led me to faith in God , Jesus is my savior and lord and I'm on my way to Heaven. GLORY TO GOD!

Grown adults *actually* believe two penguins walked all the way from Antarctica to the Middle East to hop onto an ark built by a 500 year old man, this is stunning in my unsolicited opinion. I have stated this many times: a woman who follows a religion is like a chicken who enjoys KFC. As a female human I do not take the bible seriously, and I truly cannot understand how anyone does. “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.” (Genesis 3:6) ~A woman wanted to taste knowledge and that damned an entire species, really? Oppress and control, the main uses of religion then and now, and this is only two examples of why I find the book ridiculous, abhorrent, and is not to be taken seriously.
You have to look at religion as some kind of cult that takes the young dumb and vulnerable and brain washes them into worshipping God! All the time shielding them from the truth! It's becoming harder with the internet that will be the death of religion
Ian M true, one of the most evil characters for sure. Any omnipotent/omnipresent being who would create such heinous evils only to watch is a sadistic thug. If one is ever proven to exist, put them on trial, post haste.
M Stone, I so agree with you. As a woman, I can't fathom why any other woman would embrace any religion since almost all known religions portray women as having less value.
jillibeens57 absolutely, and not only woman but men should be angry for being duped for so long! Christianity has largely succeeded in keeping people ignorant, oppressed, happy to be poor, and (in current times) less violent than other religions, but still misleads and spreads misogyny and bigotry as per the instruction manual. Cherry picking doesn’t erase the bad parts.

The Abraham and Isaac story is sick. It terrified me as a child that my very religious mother might try to harm me or kill me if God told her to. It's a horrible cruel harmful story
Not to mention that an all knowing being wouldnt have to test anyone to know what they would do. How that fact goes over the head of adult christians justs shows they have set their brain aside.
For anyone who starts studying the Bible it is one of the first shocking moments where your logical brain is trying to reconcile how the story is remotely good. If you fall for the doctrinal explanations and turn off your rational mind, you’re in danger. Essentially, you’re being programmed to accept any atrocity in the name of this religion or god. Your submit yourself to further brainwashing.

Why does a Christian expect a book written by unknown authors in a variety of languages, that was translated, rewritten, edited countless times is evidence for anything?
Well, to be fair, the bible actually provides pretty significant cultural evidence. Just look at the Old Testament--from it we can learn what the ancient Israelites wore, what they ate, what they believed, how they structured they're societies, how they thought about law and justice (not to say any of it is humanistic), what they thought of themselves and their history, their cosmogeny, their mythology, etc. I look forward to the day when the bible is just another cultural artifact, because (even as an atheist) I think it's as important and interesting as Homer or Gilgamesh.

I have no idea why Christians insist that I live according to the bible when they've obviously not read it. I mean, why base your entire life philosophy on a book you've never read?
That would be like me basing my entire life around Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga. I'd even base my morality around the warewolf/vampire stuff happening...and there was a baby I think...didn't the warewolf marry the baby or something?!? I don't know, who cares, don't question my Twilight and anybody who calls the books "poorly written" or "sexist pandering" are just in denial and haven't truly opened up their heart to Stella...or whatever the fuck her name is
Because they all follow a script and whenever an atheist asks them an unexpected question their whole script follows apart and Apologetics.exe stops working.

His remark: "It's so embarrassing because it's like you hate that one person simply exists" ...... WHO and WHAT are you talking about? Tell me who "that one person" is.
You can be! That’s the great thing about learning as an adult, the ability to change and become the people we want to be! As long as we don’t put our egos into the conversation, we can stay calm and collected, and respond with clarity, instead of anger. Ain’t that grand!?
I just keep calm. I'm already a very calm person so it comes naturally to me. When I talk to theists, my goal is not to change their religion. Skepticism is something that comes naturally, although some discussion about logic, mathematics, science can help. Some people need their religion. It is their natural inclination. That is what they feel comfortable with. Some people do not have that need. So, I try to find out a little bit who they are, why they believe the evidence for their religion is good, I try to inject some science and logic into the conversation. I have probably spoken to over 300 theists through youtube and elsewhere. Nobody has changed their minds.

@@donedeal725 Well I honestly think theres two reasons. Matt genuinely wants to help. He is a recovering religious as he has mentioned several times. Excellent question... I'm asking this same question every time some one quotes something from that book... Never got direct answer to it... Maybe because they have no valid argument here and what they can do at most is to quote a book... Who knows... Theists definitely don't...
Why do all the supposed gods have incompetent theists speak on their behalf. Why can't any of these gods speak for themselves and provide verifiable/falsifiable evidence to all humans?
Nice point. You know god only wrote one book and it is so heavily laced with imagery that is opaque in terms of its ability to be understood. If god is omni potent why wasn't he clear from the outset.

@Enjoy and Travel The World! Yeah I think you may be right, at least in part. But logic, like science, is a tool. You don't use a hammer to chop down a tree. And a tool shouldn't define how you think. But there are a lot of people in the world who think a lot of different things. If a person believes that God created the universe, then it's not a stretch for them to believe that he could enable animals to speak, or men to be able to live in giant fish. There is logic there, believe it or not. But I don't think the events are the point. It's the relationship between God and people, and people with other people, that is the point. The Bible paints a vivid picture of the longsuffering patience of God for a foolish people.
@Enjoy and Travel The World! I really like your avatar. Anyway... you seem quite contemptuous of people who believe things that don't fit into your world view. They are still real people, and worthy of some respect. I find this superior attitude among science/logic people to be annoying and misplaced. It's the same with Christians who think this way. We're all just people. 'Stopped 2000 years ago'? Maybe. How do you know? Actually the snake and the donkey business is supposed to be 4000 and more years ago, but who's counting? There seems to be a great deal of evidence for evolution, although it seems that evidence that goes against it is discarded as anomalous. But I have a question. If natural selection is the mechanism for evolution, and the natural selection process involves the loss of genetic information in a population (which it does), then how can a general loss of genetic information result in more complex organisms? It doesn't make sense. Incidentally, I've read the Bible through several times and haven't come across any fairies. Not even one! Quoting something I said elsewhere, 'the Bible is full of stories of people, mostly messing up, and what happens as a result. Cause and effect in human relationships (not much to do with science at all).Whether you think the Bible is true or not, it is certainly full of truth as it describes the human condition and, if you can accept it, God's grace and patience (but also frustration!) in dealing with what amounts to a race of recalcitrant children.' Sin is not being bad or doing bad things. Sin is being out of relationship with God. So it's not really a thing, it's an absence of a thing. God wants to have that relationship restored and be reconciled, but if we don't want that then he's not going to force it. So punishment? Well, there have certainly been some horrible people in the world, so yes. But for everyone the same? No, I don't think so. And what's wrong with bronze age people? Do you think you're better than them? Sigh. I'm tired after all that.. ... it's all about relationships... religion's got nothing to do with it...
This bloke is impressed that some verses in the Gospels can be interpreted to imply that Jesus prophesied that the Gospels would be written. But the Gospel writers obviously new that Gospels would be written, after all they were writing them at the time, so I see nothing remarkable in their putting references to their work into the mouth of Jesus.
Religious books are the equivalent of the Marvel and DC comic books of today, each espousing their favorite super ( God) hero and endowing him with better ' superpowers' than others .
Religious books aren't the equivalent to DC and Marvel at all because we know who wrote those great fantastic comics and we won't burn if we don't believe them to be true or question them either! Not like the 'Big Book of Multi -Choice'.
Society in my opinion has, had and will always aspire to have a savior/hero that which is human looking like us but with supernatural abilities. You see these characters in all cultures in their mythologies/religions thus Jesus Christ is not an exception i dont care that 2 billion people in the world worship him as supernatural/divine being because that notion has always been around since Egyptian times, hence Christians Jesus is no different to Horus of Egyptians, Moses of Jews,Mithra of Persians, Thammuz of Assyrians/Syria, Chrishna of Hindu/Indians, Zeus/Attis/Dionysus of Greeks. its all the same mindset across these cultures..that there has to be a savior/hero in their lives. So Religious books such as the Bible are a great evidence of human creativity...thats for sure. The authors have great imagination and writing abilities which none prove God is involved in their culture or nation. Using old books as evidence of God is baseless faith that has no foundation of common sense in everyday reality
@@ma2i485 Yes you're right. Religion ( imagination) is just a security blanket for masses. Good old Dionysus turned water into wine 700/1500 years before the 'Big Book of Multi -Choice.' I'd invite him to any of my parties for sure! David. UK.

I'm embarrassed for most of the people who I've heard call this show. Thankfully, because of this show and others like it, people are waking up to the deception of religion.
This guy has never questioned some of the most basic of assumptions about his religion. His logic is of the 5 year old himself when he heard the poor logic stories and likely have been around the same poor logic people his while life. Honestly, I think this conversation opened his eyes to a whole new world and was changed because of it.
This guy is so unstudied on the Bible he does not even know the synoptics and John are written anonymously... The names Mark, Matthew, Luke and John were added *mid/late second century*... hahahaha..!!! 😆
I'll never understand why people who believe these holy books cannot see the obvious, that they were written a couple of thousand years ago by people who knew nothing of the world and the way it works.
Religion was and still is part of the society's culture and traditions, passed from generation to generation. That's how societies work. Nobody gives a shit about some ancient books with thousands of pages written in a weird language. People just believe what they were taught by society in their childhood. When you see "In God we trust" printed on money, when you are asked to swear on the Bible in the court of law, when you see churches all over the place, and so on, it's hard not to believe that what you were told in your childhood by people you trust is not true.
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
A french singer had thoses lyrics about religion that I liked. " moi aussi je veux devenir catholique ! Moi aussi je veux détenir la vérité ! Car quand on est convaincu qu'on a raison, On n'a plus besoin de se casser le cul à réfléchir" Approximatly translated too. "I want to be a catholic too ! I want to hold the truth too ! Because when we're conviced we are right. We don't need to have a hard time thinking anymore" The sentences were more vulgar/ familiar in the french version but I don't know english slang too well.
Graverobbers. A local celeb like Jesus, his bits might fetch a good price to the faithful as reliquaries. Also, did they go to the right tomb? GPS and guidemaps weren't really a thing then. Did the Romans dump the body in a mass grave like they typically did to the executed? Did other faithful steal the body to prop up his prophecy of his return? So many mundane explanations... nope, HE IS RISEN!
@Phillip Hickman Jesus' claim that he would rise doesn't rule out a mass grave at all. It just means the empty tomb story is false, as it would be. Were there actually a historical Jesus the Romans would have dumped him in a mass grave with the other people that were crucified that day.
Amazing! It doesn't matter to the callers to this show if things make sense or not. And this is the case for caller after caller after caller....Absolutely amazing.

Why did Jesus heal one person at a time, when he could have healed the whole nation with not much effort, he is the Son of god. Oh I see Jesus can only handle one person at a time.
Well I guess if he just healed everyone at once, no one would know what happened. Then people would be thinking all sorts of things. Jesus wanted them to know who healed them.
@@timharrison1158 So Jesus wanted credit for healing rather than the chance to heal thousands who don't know who healed them. Why does God create people with deformities? religion (Christianity) is just a relationship with God along with loving others (see james 1:27)
*Now, onto the evidence!!*
Here's one example: Scientists have discovered that the earth "skipped" a day.
The Bible explains how that happened. In the book of Joshua, Joshua asked the sun to stop so he and the Israelites could defeat their enemies. Then in 2 Kings, King Hezekiah learned he was dying, and pleaded to God to not let him die. God sent a prophet to king hezekiah who said hezekiah would live. Hezekiah wanted a sign, and that would be for the sun to defy the law of inertia and go back 10 degrees. NASA confirmed all this and did the math (look it up for more info).
We also found Noah’s Ark hanging out in turkey, along with anchor stones marked with crosses signifying that it’s a revered place, along with altars and many other related findings. Look it up, it’s good stuff (HolyLandSite).
more evidence for the Bible concerning cosmology and divine revelation in job 26:7, proverbs 8:27, Isaiah 40:22 (read on)
The idea that the earth was round can be dated back to 600 BC in Greece. It was more widely accepted around the 3rd century (300 BC-201 BC) The idea that the Earth floated in space was concocted circa 500 BC. Note: time was “labeled” differently back then. for example, year 3000, year 420, year 69, year 0, year 1, year 2… and so on.
Job 26:7: “. . .He [God] hangs the earth on nothing” The book of Job was supposedly written at 2100 BC.
Proverbs 8:27: “. . .when He drew a circle on the face of the deep. . .” Proverbs was possibly written between 970 and 686 BC
Isaiah 40:22: “it is He who sits above the circles of the earth. . .” Isaiah was written between 739 and 680 BC.
This one doesn’t pertain to cosmology, but it refers to divine revelation nonetheless. So you know how the Euphrates River is drying up? Well, guess what? People in the Bible are saying: “Been there, done that.” Read on to learn more.
Isaiah 11:15 “The Lord will dry up the gulf of the Egyptian sea; with a scorching wind he will sweep his hand over the Euphrates River. He will break it up into seven streams so that anyone can cross over in sandals.”

*There are also non-Christian sources who have confirmed the existence and divinity of Jesus, some of which were hostile towards Christianity, such as:*
Thallus (52 AD), who said Jesus lived, was crucified, and confirmed the darkness and earthquake that followed Christ’s crucifixion;
Tacitus (56-120 AD), who called the followers of Christ “Christians,” confirmed that Jesus was crucified under Pontus Pilate’s command;
Talmud (400-700 AD), confirmed that the disciples were martyred for their faith, and confirmed Jesus was executed the day before the Passover, and said Jesus had “magical” powers;
Pliny the Younger (61-113 AD), who said that the Christians thought Jesus was/is God in the Flesh (God the Son);
Phlegon (80-140 AD), who said Jesus had the ability to predict the future, and confirmed that Jesus was crucified during Caesar’s reign, confirmed Jesus rose from the dead, and confirmed He showed His wounds to confirm He was crucified;
Celcus (175 AD), who said Jesus was born of a virgin, said His father is a carpenter, and confirmed Jesus had miraculous powers;
(See cold-case Christianity for more details)
Here’s the physical evidence of Jesus and His Resurrection:
1) No persecution would have started if He hadn’t come back (even the disciples thought Jesus would never make the ultimate comeback)
2) The Roman soldiers would have paid with their lives if they failed at their jobs
3) there was a 2-4 ton rock that 11-12 guys would have to move (The disciples deserted Him, remember? They didn’t have any help. Everyone said, “Crucify Him!” major L to those opposed to Jesus)
4) there was a Roman seal which was a metal pin that sealed the tomb stone (they would have to break that off; there were well-trained Roman guards there as well).
5) Stealing the Jesus’s body isn’t something the disciples would do (besides Judas. Although he hung himself after feeling remorse for betraying Jesus).
6) the disciples wouldn’t die for what they knew would be a lie. (The lie being Jesus never made the ultimate comeback. They were called to not be liars. I mean, they hung out with the Son of God/God in the flesh. Come on, now).
faith, science, and reason, people (as we all know them today, and as it was before all those things were tarnished)

My first time coming across this channel and I really admire how respectful these two were throughout that entire call.
I wish I was like that ☠️
Go watch some other clips where Matt literally burns some callers and hungs up. They are hilarious ✌🏻
Right. I was laughing at the caller's lack of logic.

Matt: Thats not remotely true, heres why
Caller: yeah, that makes sense

The caller doesnt care whats true at all.
Not that christians are the best thinkers.

@@blakkrainbow2797 The interpretation I am addressing is what is written and what believers then deem it to say, most times completely at odds with what is written.
Liberal in Oklahoma it's not what they deem it to say, its what it does say. if I read to myself John 3:16 it's not going to tell me how to make ice cream, unless rewrite it to say, how to make ice cream. John 3:16 doesn't deem what I want it to deem.
@@blakkrainbow2797 Explain then the many different branches of Christianity and how their interpretation of the bible differs so much.
Is Jesus the son or co equal , are there three in one, is Mary worthy of prayer, .......
Liberal in Oklahoma there are many,many different branches of all religions not just Christianity. the Christian religion as it's been called, is because of the different viewpoints those people have. Jesus is the begotten son of God. and the Trinity is the Father,son and the holy spirit, the three personalities in one. and I don't worship Mary. she didn't for me on the cross, Jesus did. did I answer your questions, probably not.

I believe everything in the bible because I want to, and it saves me from having to think about logic.
That's just foolish Todd. But I think you're being facetious...
And you don’t have to own up to your evil doings either!!!!!!🤪

This bloke is impressed that some verses in the Gospels can be interpreted to imply that Jesus prophesied that the Gospels would be written. Religious books are the equivalent of the Marvel and DC comic books of today, each espousing their favorite super ( God) hero and endowing him with better ' superpowers' than others .
Liberal in Oklahoma can you see me from where you are.
