Distilled water can usually be found at the grocery store. It is usually labeled as distilled. Deionized water would also be an option if you can find it.
Yeah, every town used to have at least one radiator shop that could clean them, repair them, recore them, etc. I can remember getting radiators upgraded from two-row to three-row.
Yeah I took a minute to check Wmart and my local store has it. Big this time of the year for people to put in their humidifiers not to mention irons as some of us still use them.
Back before gasket sealer was common, folks put a light coating of grease on paper gaskets. I've never had any problems doing it. Emphasis on the light, sealer is a place where less is more! Thanks for the video, always enjoy them...
Try this: a thermostat for an engine keeps the coolant from flowing to the radiator until it reaches a preset operating temperature, at which point it opens and the coolant can flow through the radiator and back to the engine via the water pump
Fred, you're not buying water, you are buying convivence, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Not having to run to another store ('cause it's not like the auto parts store sells distilled water) is often worth a few bucks; at least to me. 😉
Hey Fred, most thermostats these days use an expanding wax ' motor' kind of like a mini wax filled hydraulic cylinder, the wax can be formulated to react to heat and expand at different temperatures
Hey Fred, I did exactly the same thing, tried to solder my 2A radiator and made it worse-thank you for that😅. It’s hard to find an old fashioned radiator shop with a crusty old guy anymore. The one shop I found wanted way more than the cost of a new one so I went with a new brass reproduction.
Good work Fred! I got in a habit of taking any parts I decide to shelve and spraying them down with WD or the like and putting them in a plastic bag for storage..the one time I had to go back and use a shelved part it actually spun smoother than when I had taken it off.
Ugh, I'm with you on not being motivated at times. The summer heatwaves really cut into that as well. I was behind you on resurrecting my A1. Your video's got me motivated though. I was able to get it running pretty well. Used Vern's old article and timed it to 12 BTC and it runs smooth. Took it to a few C&C and a little offroading in the nearby hills. Broke my clutch linkage and had to make a new one of those. Next up are brakes though. I want to upgrade to 11" drums. I'm still torn on converting the T90a to a C and doing 3.15:1 gears. T98 maybe or 5:1 Petrovich gears?
supermarkets and drug stores carry distilled water. Rain water is a big variable. technically it need de-ionized distilled water is the bees knees for use in coolant system system.
Hey Fred. I love the Flat Fender build. I appreciate that you promote sponsors that are relevant to the content rather than scammy health food, frozen dinners and VPN apps.
I would have used the example of the thermostat is like the thermostat for you ac in your house. When the house gets too warm, it opens up and allows the coolant (which is like the refrigerant in the ac lines) to pass and cool off the engine (just like the ac pulls warm air from the house through the evaporator to pull heat from it). That coolant then heads to the radiator (which does the exact thing as an ac condenser) to reject the heat to the outside.
I've successfully sodered a few radiators and gas tanks, but if the radiator is all clogged with corrosion and scale, it will not cool well. Hopefully, your radiator shop is honest with you, and you don't spend 200 bucks getting the old one reconditioned and still end up buying a new one anyway.
Are radiator repair shops still in business in your area? I don't know of any where I live used to be a couple of them unfortunately they went out of business.
My radiator shop closed up. The owner said new radiators are so inexpensive they just go that route. Also, environmental regs were making the chemical use difficult. Too bad.
Lol if I didn’t know what a thermostat was I would be extremely confused after watching this 😂. But good try I’m sure it may have made sense to someone.
This channel deserves more views !

Dang, finally another flatfender video! Been following this series and couldn't wait for another episode!
Old school radiator shops are getting harder to find in the era of cheap aluminum radiators. Cheers.

"I was going to go to town to get a runner washer, but then I saw a rubber mat on my floor." LMAO- that is such perfect Fred.
Great build
Any major grocery store will sell distilled water. Usually less than a $1 a gallon.
Yeah I took a minute to check Wmart and my local store has it. Big this time of the year for people to put in their humidifiers not to mention irons as some of us still use them.
The water that drips out of your window air conditioner is distilled water.
Smart and final on the way to Pismo
Not usually, it's gone up to nearly $1.50 now days since well ya know.
depending on where you are .. boiling tap-water removes enough stuff to be as good as distilled
Using the right flux and a clean wire brush helps the new solder stick very well.

Flatfender Jeeps are fun to work on. I learned a lot about cars working on my long since sold 1943 GPW.

I love your shop Fred! Some of the best stuff has been done there too! Love the flat fender as well, can’t wait to see you ripping it around the farm!

That's what happens in projects. Hopefully next video has the Jeep running outside, ready to go.

Rainy day here so I can’t work on my rigs. Pumped to see some flat fender content to cruise through my wet morning.
Good luck on your build!
Nice shoutout to Sal!
That's a cool Jeep. You're right. It would be cool just to be able to drive it around. It doesn't have to be a serious off roader.
Distilled water is usually
Sold at most grocery stores It
Is also used
In irons
It’s about time 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👏👏👏
grocery stores usually have distilled water and usually it's the cheapest on the shelf.

Hello Fred! 💖
You can get distilled water from your de humidifier
Yay more flat fender!

"Don't get it right. Get it running" DF
I've had a couple radiators from a 41 chevy and 51 buick rebuilt. It's never worth it. They hold water but they never keep the engine cool enough.

Sorry, was just recharging my RayCONs.
i dont eat health food or frozen dinners. and I dont know what a vpn app is?
@@4xFredWilliamsanother reason why this channel is the best!! Preciate ya Fred!! Keep on keeping on my man!!
I love this little Jeep, when are you going to get back to the FC you said you’d have going by the end of 2023😂
Dollar General for distilled water.
😎

Grocery stores have distilled water next to drinking water.
Most grocery stores actually sell distilled water.

Tap water is fine. The old green stuff especially doesn't care. The distilled water obsession probably came from all the issues GM had with Dex-Cool.
Any grocery store will have distilled water in the baby section for $1-2 buck per gallon
Buy distilled water from the grocery store or Walmart etc. Distilled water doesn't have minerals in it that will calcify your cooling system.
Buy a gallon of 100% coolant, and 99 cents will gey you a gallon of distilled water. Make your own 50/50 mix of coolant, and get 2 gallons of it.

love the flatfender, but when are you going to build a 4x4 van?
Parts are manufactured so poorly anymore that I no longer replace parts that are not broken (like the water pump). Been screwed too many times.
Hey Fred. What pocket knife do you carry? I’m a bit of a knife aficionado.
Lol if I didn’t know what a thermostat was I would be extremely confused after watching this 😂. But good try I’m sure it may have made sense to someone.
What was wrong with Ashley’s Jeep the other day? I saw her post on IG.
Any grocery store or pharmacy would have distilled water
Clean, flux, and don’t have water in it, will never get it hot enough or stick
1st!
79th 😂
