Dude, that thing is so clean I can't even begin to express the satisfaction I got from watching it be made. I'm begging you, please make a follow-up of the dash being installed into the car.
Bro, from a fellow z31 owner, I WANT this!! I tried to do something similar with a raspberryPi but as you stated, it was not fluid at all. Ended scraping that idea years ago. If you ever decide to sell, whether it's just hardware, software or as a kit, count me in on a buy in!
I'd love to see what happened if Blitzen collaborated with SuperFastMatt. You'd get SuperFastMatt's cool mechanical engineering and fabrication skills and Blitzen's programming and electrical engineering skills all bundled up into one!
I can't believe that I just watched this! My man, you are on a whole nother planet with this! If ever a retro-fitted dash could look good in an older car, this is it. I literally cannot say much more because I need to pick my jaw up off the floor. I am a professed "Nerd/Dork/Designer/Tinkerer/etc", but to have this kind of knowledge is just unbelievable. You Sir are the top tier intelligent!
@@baiomarlaye3165 there's real dash I've been contemplating for ages but you still have to be able to translate the canbus and stuff it's always been a project I've wanted to do but time and electrical brains aren't there lol

I don't think many people appreciate just how much work obviously went into this behind the scenes. You have a great sense of style and a great work ethic to pull it off.
I have an frs. I dont want to change my dash, but this is awesome in so many ways. Custom designing your own display and everything working together is amazing.
Great job man! As someone that has build can interface electronics people underestimate how long it takes to reverse engineer these stuff and implement something that works. Love the dedication, Godspeed!
This channel really is worthy of its name, "Design Lab". Especially the "Lab" part. Well done and thank you for sharing, you're inspired me to make something similar :)
This is amazing, but I really like the features of the stock digi dash: Two trip odometers with push-pin controls, gallon countdown, etc. Nissan really knocked it out of the park for driver ergonomics and function with the original. This is eye candy and it is nice. :-)
I don’t own one of these cars, but I’m a huge sucker for 80’s retro stuff, and I love to tinker. I watched this video all the way through and loved it. Well done man!
No way! i saw you post about this build on Twitter ages ago and its only just now randomly popped up on my UA-cam! Super mega duper cool ass build man, you're one very talented individual! I wish i had one tenth on the brain power required to do mods like this!
This is so incredibly dope! I don’t have a Nissan, but from a fellow 80s car owner, I would love to see stuff like this in the e30 community. I think it would be cool to do something on the left and right bottom corner, like a wide band on one side and something cool on the right side too. Love it dude! Keep it up!
I am super interested in all of the research that you put into this. i understand the time that went into doing this. its the coolest thing i have seen on youtube in a long time.
I once had a friend that never took the files needed for EGA and VGA modes when copying games ... to save some space on the floppy since his video card would only support Hercules and CGA anyway ... I kind of hated him for that, but to see this dashboard with such colour palette brings great nostalgia vibes. Neat !!!
Man z31 stuff keeps popping up everywhere, and this is the type of stuff that really makes me miss mine. I had an 84 50th AE with a Kaminari front bumper and the original Spearco intercooler kit. It had less than 50k miles on it when I bought it in 2013.
Such a nice mod, In new cars I either prefer a fully digital dash display or the nice blend like this where the scales and needles are anaolog but the background is a nice screen. Its a nice blend and you still have a working speedo if the screen decides to crap out :)
Dude, this video production is on point and the outcome of your labor is incredible. Would love more details on the cnc process and what you use for overlays. From the viewpoint of the video is looks nearly flawless! Well done.
My CNC mill is nothing too special, just a sainsmart 3018 with a custom enclosure, needs some upgrades to improve it but it does fairly well. I got the text portion of the face screen printed at a local shop, and they did great work with it!
WOW! You are amazing, this is the single most impressive thing ive seen in years. If you ever drop a DIY build guide id be interested. Just need to change it to kph.
This is the exact esthetic I eventually want to do on my custom motorcyle. All be it more compact, of course. I may end up doing a wide screen digital display, though.
Just got reccd your channel. Well done mate. Bet there would be a huge aftermarket for this for all those 80s and 90s vehicles everyone is restoring and saving
Wow....that is SICK! Just randomly came across this video while looking up carputer dashes.....subscribed! I am building a vintage restomod and would LOVE to do something like this in it!
The custom faceplate is such a nice touch. I just went the complete opposite direction of converting canbus messages to my old analog dash. Now everyone still thinks my bronco is a rusty hunk of junk
MAD. FUCKIN. PROPS. This thing is so cool. I only wish there was an animated start up and shut down sequence... but you need to get this in the car and driving stat. Bravo dude!
I really like your first design concept at 5:20. It captures the original Nissan design and takes it further and better. Let me know when you start selling this kit. I want to install it in my 84 50th Anniversary 300zx. Great work.
I… I would throw so much money at ur face to try to get u to make me one… don’t even own a zx don’t even care. Spectacular work, and kicks square in the nostalgia so nicely
