- In this video we take our 1977 Kawasaki KD100 dirt bike on its first ride! It is a 2 stroke 100cc motorcycle built small enough for kids. We got it running in a previous video, but didn't know if the transmission, clutch and brakes were in working order. It's time to find out!
3:58 Dude dropped that clutch like a hot rock.
St least he didn’t flip it like half the goons out there
Yea, but handled it like it didn't matter...💪👍
I was the same way as a kid. Once I got a bigger bike I learned real quick that wont work! haha
Nice summer day, my dad finally retired, and new Jennie's garage. What a great day
Congrats to your dad! I hope enjoys many years of retirement!
Jacob, I've known you for more years than I care to think about(haha), but your passion for bikes has never wavered and to see you pass it on to your son is heartwarming. Wishing you and the family happiness and good health.
Yes it is a little scary to think how much time has passed since we were just kids ourselves. It seems both like yesterday and somehow a lifetime ago at the same time. Thank you for the kind words my friend.
“So you’re gonna wanna take it pretty slow at first.”
BRAAAAP!!!! Zips away at top speed. So much fun! I woulda killed for a bike like this when I was a kid.
Junior is gonna have a hell of a childhood! Damn im envious! Love from Germany.
He's giving me a good fatherhood, and I hope to return the favor by giving him a good childhood.
@@jenniesgaragehope he has the workshop bug . Nothing better than a father son project . Love the look of this bike and sure your son does to 👍
I love watching this seeing a young kid who gets the blessing of riding generational bike. Living the dream that many many other kids were living back in the 70s and 80s
I mostly watch this channel for entertainment purposes. The only UA-camr I watch intentionally and consistently in fact. But the electrical restoration video gave me the confidence and some pointers on how to get all the electrical systems going on my 1981 TS125 project I bought on my birthday. Someone had switched the break and running light on that one too!
Now I am working on a friend's bike and it is a 77 kd 125. I learned where the choke knob goes on the carb, and how to get it really clean too. Wasn't sure how I felt about the carb being stuck in the side, but now I know it's called a rotary engine and you really like them!
Rotary valve engine. A rotary engine is something different, like a Wankel rotary in a mazda, or a rotary plane engine.
@@ChrisBlagdonIsABoss yes. Thanks for clarifying that!
@@benmason1425 Yeah no problem lol, there's a lot of different terms when it comes to vehicles and engines so it's good practice to know specific terms when fixing stuff and buying parts just in case you end up working on something with a weird design, like a rotary valve engine
Good job on the repairs! Comments like yours may be my favorite thing about making these videos. Thank you for posting it. I encourage you to ride the kd125 and see if you like it!
Missed opportunity to have the rocket sticker on the exhaust😂
For a small bike like that 100cc is a good amount of power. That's a great little bike. The fact that it's a '77, and it's in such good shape, makes it even cooler.
Yeah I got lucky with it.
super cool to see yall's son....he's grown from when I first started watching yall about 7 years ago.....that boy looks just like his mama.....thank yall for posting more content , it makes my day.
Thank you for the kind words.
Dude that has to be an awesome feeling for you, Jennie, & your son!
Nice to see you uploading again. Love your videos. I feel like a learn something new every time, while being entertained. Its nice!
Glad you like the videos!
Kid, keep hanging out with Dad. You'll learn more from him than from any engineering or mechanic' course. And believe me, the time spent with your father will be your fondest memories later in life. Cherish those moments.
Ran like a champ! They were great bikes. Glad to see that one in your hands. Camera girl looks bored! And do we all ever miss her skills!
God that brings back memories, wrote the same bike with me and my dad him right now Yamaha 100 I was about the same age as your son. It was great great video.
I'm glad the video brought back some good memories!
What an awesome family moment. I appreciate ya'll sharing this kind of stuff. Reminds me of all the times I spent riding atv's with my Grandfather.
Your son is lucky to have such cool parents.
Thanks! We are lucky to have such a great son.
Having fun with a vintage 2-cycle 👍👍👍
He has really good form for a youngster! Good job! Great little bike for a beginner!
Your boy is a pretty adept rider.. most people would’ve shifted gears coming up that hill around 5:50, but your little man was smart enough to realize that switching up a gear on a hill is a no-no (for anyone wondering, you don’t up shift on a hill cause you’ll end up loosing all your torque and power cause the engine RPMs drop
Fun little bike….I’m restoring a ‘66 Honda s90…I’m having a lot of fun…this was the bike my best friend and I would rent from a gas station in the mid ‘60’s and “tool around” the Los Angeles area where I grew up….nostalgic memories….
Good childhood memories are priceless treasures.
Dang he shot off like a bullet!😃 Love the sound of a good old fashioned 2 stroke. Smooth recovery on overloading the camera's memory card. 👍
SWEEEEEET 😎 Little Bike, Don't Sell It, It's A Collectors Dream
Yeah, it seems like it was taken care of.
Nippy little thing that bike, and I'm sure the pogo stick is living its' best life making noise and not breaking any more kids' ankles... :P
What a good little bike the small 2 strokes are so much fun, your son doesn’t seem to by shy about grabbing a handful of throttle. Hope for a comfortable and faster recovery.
my man is cosplaying as trevor for this video, very nice
Camera perspective feels like you’re flying!
Aye up jennie, that second gear, clutchdrop on first pull away was spectacular 👍👍💪
"That's a great story" 😂
glad you are posting on a regular basis again
Woo hoo Jennies Garage :)
What a sweet little machine!
Great bike runs sweet speedy recovery camera Girl
Good deal! It still rips too. Excellent find
Thanks! Yea it pulls really good for what it is.
I must say, I fucking love you guys
Let the good times roll.
That son of yours is a great kid, so confident and a great little rider, a credit to you both. Any more children planned dare I ask ? Brilliant video as always, thanks for sharing and best regards from Ireland.
Name it after the pogo stick. Roy Burlin
😂😂😂 " The Rocket "
Thanks for the suggestion!
“35-40” hell I think it was hitting 50 in that clip if I’m being honest… love the single cylinder air cooled 100s
Won't be long and you will be struggling to keep up with your son! He will be king of the woods when cut loose on your KDX!
That pogo stick exhaust should give it about 3 hp.
I seen myself in your son when you took it for a ride. Looks jealous and anxious to ride more lol
Good times 👍.... could be a name for the bike, contrasting to hard times
That's a great name suggestion! And it ties in with the Kawasaki slogan "let the good times roll"
Great little bike fun video with the family. Thank you!
that little bike is awesome! looks like fun.
Love seeing you’ve posted a new video. Can’t wait for the next 😊
I love this channel.
Great little bike..
Those exhausts originally had a "stinger" not quite as long as your extension. I took it out as a kid because it made the exhaust note a little throatier. Yours sounds like it's running strong.
I had 2 Kawasaki G5' s (same motor) there was a neutral between every gear! much worse at at full throttle upshifts. I worked at Kawi dealership from 1976-1981. Shift forks and shift drum fixed trouble.....
Excellent bike sir
Thanks!
What a great little bike. Really enjoying your videos again.
Thank you!
Good work Jr! Top Lad!!
Good Job getting it going. Great video!
Thank you!
Cool little Kawasaki :D
Great vid
Thanks!
In 1977 my dad bought me a MC1 90cc street legal enduro model… so similar to the bike. I can that so many parts would interchange. Is till remember that chrome hexagonal has cap like it was yesterday. Someone removed your muffler tip… it was tapered down to about 5/8” hole… really whitened the little bike down… I took mine out too. Like an idiot I ripped all the lights off mine trying to make a real dirt bike out of it… as a 10 year old I wasn’t able to really appreciate what my dad had done for me. Kudos to him, he took it all in stride. Nice work, bike looks and runs great.
I was the same way when I was a kid, taking off the street stuff! Didn't fuss much over air cleaners or oil changes either.
Your videos inspired me to start my own UA-cam channel. Not this account and a totally different topic. Thank you!
I wish you success!!
That Kawasaki sounds mint reminds me of the Kawasaki i had when i was a kid
Nice video as always guys :)
Thanks!
nice ride !!!!!!!
Thanks!
Riding Kawasaki's 50yrs ❤
Great video take care 😊
Thanks, you too!
The wee Kawi gets along just fine. Nice video with the family. Your son is a great young man.👍
Thank you! Our son is the greatest joy in our life.
Yo ,guys great to see you all in another video .... grt day too.... Jake I hope you took along a pic a nic hamper. (Sorry ,too many yogi bear toons).

Wooohoo a new vid! Thanks guys! its a JayGee day!
Great little machine, thanks for the video, camera girl is missed
Thank you, glad you liked the video!
10 out of 10 great video Hope ankle gets better
Thank you!
My 78 KD 100 M has been a rock solid performer in my motorcycle lineup forever.
Perfect camping bike and they can go almost anywhere for pennies of fuel.
The injection system works perfectly. And with modern oils virtually no smoke or wear.
Synthetic gear lube keeps clutch-transmission in perfect condition.
Best O ring chain and sprockets will insure problems free drive.
With proper maintenance they run forever.♾️
Wise words. I think the greatest attribute the bike has is it's small size. As you say perfect camping bike. When traveling, and space is limited, it can fit where a full size bike can't
The bike cleaned up very well. Looks good, sounds good, must be good!
Yeah rides good too. Thank you!!
I can tell from listening, (I commented last time too), that's a 2 kick bike. Choke it, kick it once, choke off, kick it again. It'll fire. In really hot weather or if it's run within the hour you probably won't even need a choke. Try it and see.
I may try your procedure next time and see. I think what happened is, I forgot the kill switch was off and he kicked it with the choke on, which floods it because there wasn't any spark. Then when kicked again with the choke on it just floods it more.
@@jenniesgarage I agree. I think you've got that thing dialed. I just want you to have the glory of having it dialed. LOL
That thing is so clean 👌 great job like always man. Love the videos always a good day when you post.
yeah I got lucky with this one. Somebody took care of it.
It’s a great story
I had that exact same 1977 kd100m same color too. Mine was also missing the front number plate so I mounted 2 fog lights to the front😄. The lighting coils are already there on the stator, there should be an extra wire or two on the harness to tap into (This was back over 20 years ago) Mine was also missing the silencer and it was LOUD
Thank you for the tip about the stator! I was wondering if it had a lighting coil in there!
I had a 1972 Kawasaki H1 500 two-stroke triple street bike. That was also 5 up.
That's interesting. Seems like it would make that bike (more) dangerous. I have heard so much about those old triples, I would like to ride one someday.
That wee thing Flys
The little bike scrubbed up quite well. Nice amount of smoke, oil pump is working. Sometimes old clutches are a tad sticky for a while.
That is true about the clutch. It may have been decades since it was used.
Damn... he just dumps the clutch. Gotta teach that kid to feather just a little bit.
Also My first motorcyle was all up shifting. I have a hard time with those one down four up patterns. It's all about how you grew up.
I talked to him after filming and he said he dumped the clutch on purpose!!
Get well Camera Girl 🙏 we need you 👌
dropped the clutch.. lol... but also.. word of advice.. better put a spark arrester on the end of the pogo stick.. since you are riding around in the forest.
looks like the prefect size bike for him though
Nice.
Little Smokey!
Heh, he dropped that clutch like a bad habit.
Gonna have to practice. Otherwise looks like he's going to be having some fun.
Loving The Jennies Garage Hat, Where Do I Get 1? Your Son Rides Very Good.
Thank you, I will tell him you said he rides good. The hat is a prototype, I'll let you know when you can get one!
I think the mix is a little rich. Or the rings are going. 2 strokes smoke, but that's a little to much.
It for sure smoked more than it should in the beginning but I think it cleared up to what it should be. There may have been some residual oil in the bottom end from sitting. Or maybe some premix left in the float bowl.
Damn, Jake, you almost make me wish to be a dad.
Stop doing it to me, the world is crashing.
I take your comment as a high compliment. Thank you. The thing about life is at any time there are probably myriad of both extreme tragedies and greatest joys taking place somewhere. It is an interesting game.
When l was 129 lbs from working on a garbage truck my HondaCB125 would go 77 MPH down the Interstate highway 🛣️. 77MPH would be fast in the dirt.
I’d honestly prefer that shift pattern on my modern ktm 250 4t.. I honestly don’t even use neutral when I’m riding cause it’s so damn hard to find lol .. I usually just keep the clutch disengaged, but it would be so much healthier for the bike if I could just pop it into neutral when I come to stops and lights.. though, it would be fairly annoying, cause if you don’t keep track of what gear you’re in (if you don’t have a gear indicator) you end up in neutral, and end up having to upshift, exactly like you did at 7:35 lol
Neutral at the bottom. Why, oh lord why? I once tried to race a bike where 1st gear could not be engaged because of a bent shift fork. So, it had neutral at the bottom. Yeah, you don't want to do that. Just trust me. Thanks for the video. I enjoy these.
I had a 1979 KM 100, basically the same bike but with lights. It had the standard 1 down 4 up shift pattern, probably required to sell it as a road legal bike in the US and Canada.
Glad you like the videos! It's a potentially dangerous situation when you are expecting engine braking you just freewheel! Or need to take off in a hurry, only to not be in gear.
I agree that is strange, I also have a km100 (1978) and have wondered why the transmissions are different. Good theory.
@@jenniesgarage Or on a steep hill and expect a downshift to keep you going!
❤
Old Smokey !!
First view!!
He can ride
Dear old Dad what would you of done meeting the Bulls! ah Now that would of made a great video! Well you made it back safely! I recently bought a 1975 Air Head BMW Love it would love to find a 1966 Maybe you could find me one their in California Hmm regardless great video Jake and Jen and Son will the Boy be getting the bike?
Yeah, lousy stinking bulls are everywhere...If I come across a 66 bmw I'll let you know!
We miss camera girl. You do good though!
great famely time .
He need learn some cluch releasing manners, way he release the clutch was so scary😁
I noticed that too! We talked afterwards and he said he was doing it on purpose!
🎉
Another great video. My only criticism is that there’s not enough of them ;)
One question though. How do you get such good sound? I can never hear myself using my GoPro on a chin mount. Also. How do you talk to each other? It’s crystal clear.
helmet audio could be recorded locally and mixed in edit, actual radio audio might not be so crystal, but still clear enough. look at 3:55 on the kids helmet, it is something like a Cardo packtalk or similiar snap on communication device
Glad you liked the video! For the gopros we use mic adapters with a lav mic on the inside of the helmet. And we talk to each other with SMH 10 intercoms.
4th.....Lets go!
when will one start seeing the titles formed as questions, I wonder..(?;)
