No I agree, there's no world in my eyes where ketchup is a sauce but mustard isn't. They have virtually identical consistency and uses, so they should both qualify. Mayonnaise, maybe not, but it's also not *that* far away the more I consider it.
@@unexpected2475 I seriously would call neither of the things said in that round a sauce, except for the tomato sauce. But then they said tomato sauce and ketchup are the same thing, so I really can't agree with any of the answers there.
sauce is: “a liquid, cream, or semi-solid food served on or used in preparing other foods.” The definition of a condiment is: “a spice, sauce, or preparation that is added to food to impart a particular flavor or to enhance its flavor.”
The star wars argument doesn't matter anyway, because the answers don't have to be right. If the question says "name a famous trilogy" and 3 people say "chicken" then chicken gets the point. The common answer doesn't have to be a correct answer.
I know this is old, right, but as a chef that's super bugging me: Yes, mustard is indeed a condiment BUT what is a condiment? Thanks to this episode, I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of time during the past month debating the requisite properties of ‘sauce’. Conclusion: mayo and mustard are sauces when applied to hot dogs or burgers or the like, but condiments if they’re a dollop on the side of a plate, ergo English/Wholegrain/Dijon etc are condiments but American mustard is a sauce. Is a vinaigrette a sauce?? What about jams and preserves???? I mean, they’re condiments, but Cranberry sauce is basically a jam that’s called a sauce, what about mint sauce, or apple sauce?!?! Where does one draw the line and OH MY GOD I’VE SPENT SO LONG THINKING ABOUT EFFING SAUCE!!! 😂😂
tbf to adam even if mustard isnt traditionally a sauce, the stuff most people buy these days comes out of basically the same bottle as ketchup so id argue its a sauce
Congratulations! The stupid throwaway gag of Keith Reindeer complaining about the union won you a subscriber after you nearly killed me with laughter for some reason. 10/10, not disappointed in anyone but myself.
This game is kind of the opposite of a childhood game we used to play in Denmark. You write on a paper a bunch of categories like country, male name, female name, car brand, food, etc and then someone chooses a letter. You then have to fill in all those categories beginning with that letter and time stops when the first person has filled all categories. You then get a point for every category where no one else wrote the same as you. Filled many recesses in my day.
I’m absolutely supportive of mustard and even mayonnaise being sauces. For me it’s just the consistency and usage that matters primarily. Goopy and goes *on* the real food to add flavour? I’m happy calling that a sauce. Are some condiments not sauces? Absolutely. Does that mean they can’t be both? Nope. Also, intense debates about meaningless topics like this are what makes board games great 🥳
Mustard is a sauce/condiment. It's so bizarre that this is being questioned lmao. Also, her saying that the reason it isn't a sauce is because of how its distributed is just... Mustard isn't just bought in a jar(although I've never seen anyone buy it like that, but that can just be depending on where you're from), Mustard legit comes in bottles as well, just like Ketchup or Mayonnaise or Barbecue. When you go to restaurants or a food truck you're even asked "what sauce?" and they proceed with said option. And depending on which country/area you're from, the choices in sauce grows or dwindles.
Mustard is a sauce and a condiment, condiments can be sauces, spices, or other accouterments, added to enhance a dish, so unless its raw mustard seed or mustard stems its a sauce

@@unexpected2475 Imo, mayo comes in a bottle like ketchup or mustard, and you squirt it out, so it's a sauce
@Schilani Yet the definition of sauce, is "a condiment or relish for food". Plus, sauce is literally a synonym of condiment.
sauce is: “a liquid, cream, or semi-solid food served on or used in preparing other foods.” The definition of a condiment is: “a spice, sauce, or preparation that is added to food to impart a particular flavor or to enhance its flavor.”
I love this specific group dynamic. It's the BEST for this type of game. The game itself sounds super fun but played by this group? Chef's kiss.
Agreed. This was such a fun video. I was laughing for nearly an hour straight
The star wars argument doesn't matter anyway, because the answers don't have to be right. If the question says "name a famous trilogy" and 3 people say "chicken" then chicken gets the point. The common answer doesn't have to be a correct answer.
It's great to see Tilly back!
I know this is old, right, but as a chef that's super bugging me: Yes, mustard is indeed a condiment BUT what is a condiment? WELL my friends: The definition of a condiment is: “a spice, sauce, or preparation that is added to food to impart a particular flavor or to enhance its flavor.”
So Adam was right and I can stop having an aneurysm.
Basically, all sauces are condiments but not all condiments are sauces
Today we learned:
Jacket, coat, and anorak: all entirely different things.
Pasta sauce and ketchup: same thing.
Absolutely insane
Don't want to be that guy but, tomato sauce = ketchup, pasta sauce contains different items compared to tomato sauce.
(I live in Australia so it might be a commonwealth language thing).
@@D0JES In the US ketchup is really the only word for that condiment. Pasta sauce/red sauce/pizza sauce/tomato sauce/marinara are all very related words for thinner, less vinegar-based sauces.
@@archivist8523 Same in the UK. Tomato sauce and ketchup aren't the same, and there are a good bunch of other tomato based sauces that aren't called tomato sauce or ketchup. They just look like they don't know a lot about kitchen stuff (i also wouldn't call mustard a sauce but a spice or condiment. If i say mustard sauce i'd reffer to a mustard based sauce like honey-mustard dressing)
@@tchuxferenczy8669The problem with saying whether mustard is a sauce or not is that there are so many varieties some of which are sauces and some of which are not.
57:47 ADAM!! You just referenced my favorite show.
Been real pumped for this one.
The chaotic energy in this episode is awesome! Chef's kiss to that!
37:17 I don't care what wikipedia says, mustard is a sauce. mustard seeds are a condiment, but mustard in its "yellow sauce" form is a sauce.
saying mustard isn't a sauce is like saying penguins aren't birds because they're not called penguin birds.
Someone else said it first - but damn, every guest you have on is so great. Love every episode!
Edit - so proud of Tilly putting LotR as her trilogy answer
really loved the end jingle/montage
Sully is correct about how you should open presents, stocking before lunch and family and friends after lunch
I definitely put mustard on chips by the way Rosey and I recommend it to anyone! Especially that French's squeezey mustard
genuinely dont think ive laughed harder at this series than at rosies insistence that sauces are only sauces if they have short hand sauce nicknames
I love how unnecessarily rowdy this was!
Alright, that discussion about sauces was just amaaaazing. Y'all were ready to fight over sauces and I love it!
This episode is pure chaos and I love it
Congratulations! The stupid throwaway gag of Keith Reindeer complaining about the union won you a subscriber after you nearly killed me with laughter for some reason. 10/10, not disappointed in anyone but myself.
Can’t wait to see Tilly play BotC. She’s great!
There's a version of that in the UK as well, some letter and category combinations were problematic as a kid. x:x
I want Peanut Butter Laurie time to be such a thing I love it!
All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others
We need more Tilly! She's wonderful!
Mustard is a sauce and a condiment, condiments can be sauces, spices, or other accouterments, added to enhance a dish, so unless its raw mustard seed or mustard stems its a sauce
