    🏄 A BIT ABOUT ME ☕️
I don't call myself an author because I don’t believe in labels.
I believe that story is art - that it's sacred, and that it is and has always been a force that changes and shapes our world. That's why I write, and that's why I create videos (even co-produced an environmental film). I consider the world my home, and enjoy submerging in unique cultures nearly as much as I love submerging in the ocean and riding the waves. I am the author of the young adult urban fantasy series The Blood Race, and am currently working on several new series's. Though I can be hard to find, I am easy to reach (and very fun to talk to) at: kate@kaemmons.com

This is so true! It is so important to embrace your creative work for what it is and know that as long as it is a reflection of your heart and soul, it is already perfect!🥰❤️

I have felt like this my whole adult life. I am 50 yrs old now. I am trying to see my writings as not perfect, that it will never be perfect. I just hope one day I can have my many writings to be published, a life long dream. I constantly feel my writing needs more, more perfection, that it won't make sense so I keep tweaking, editing, and more. I hope I can change this way of thinking. Thank you Kate.

In the song "Midlife Crisis" Faith No More says "I'm a perfectionist, and perfect is a skinned knee." I subscribe to that philosophy, perfection is most easily found in a mirror.

As someone who loves to write stories and is clinically diagnosed with OCD, you have no idea how much I needed to hear this. As always, you're a sweet soul, Kate. Thank you for imparting your knowledge with us. 🩷💫🌸

My favorite video, and also the theme of one of my stories.
    BEAUTIFULLY expressed. Thanks, Kate! Namasté.
Finding meaning is vital. Perfection is unattainable, and therefore unrealistic. Improvement over our previous selves is the best we can possibly hope to attain. We are more than just things that produce. We create, and that doesn't always mean we make visible progress every single day. Sometimes, the way forward is to step back, or slow down, or pause for direction.
This hit at a perfect time. :)

Loved this video, it really reignited the idea of writing and art just being playful and joyful, no pressure needed. And in terms of book writing, I’m young, never written a book, tried and failed immediately because I wanted everything to be perfect and it wasn’t. This time around, a year later, my mindset is so different. Plus some person of wisdom on UA-cam said something like “The first draft of a book will always be perfect, because it’s only purpose is to exist.” And I love that. Keep spreading positivity, it really helps so many people! ❤️

Loved that your proposed counterpoint to perfectionism is "this childlike play." It prompted me to realize that that's what perfectionism really does-it sucks all the fun out of creativity, turns the glorious and chaotic and whimsical act of creation into something rigid and boring and beholden to others, and if we're not having fun while creating, then truly we have lost the plot. This video was excellent. I almost felt as though you were looking directly at me (not just at the camera, but at _me_) at various points. Thanks so much!

Oh wow... I was literally JUST writing and struggling with thinking 'must be perfect! Must be perfect!' And then this video pops up! 🤩 My best ideas always come from play too. Not muscling to find the right solution.
I do have a question though... sometimes I'll get a flash of a scene in my book but that's not the next upcoming scene that I'm supposed to write. But the inspiration will be there to write it. Sometimes I've made myself wait to write it and then kind of wish I hadn't 😅. Should I just go with whatever inspiration I have for whatever scene in the moment? Or stick to the timeline?

Perfect doesnt exist per se, in Latin per means: per, through, By, for, with & (fect) fecto or facto means: Done. Together you must look for Perfecto and you get the translation: Complete. So my intuition tells me this is a construct of our definition as a society of a word or saying in another language that we took to another level, nor good or bad, just what it is. And that hundreds of years ago meant simply Complete, as it Done ! So in purity of the word when you finish something you can say its perfect. Thanks for sharing Kate

    I have a different approach:
Something I said in high school: perfection is an objective that you cannot attain. You should strive for it, but you’ll never get there. This is particularly for me, trying to be more realistic and learning about the psychology behind cartoons. Aesthetic realism runs contrary to cartoonish reliability. The more detailed a face looks, the less I associate with it, whereas a smiley face often invokes a reaction. :)
This was emphasized during college. (Traditional) Animation emphasizes how much time you have to work. The more you linger on a shot, the more difficult it becomes to work on others, so you have to moderate the level of details for an entire scene. At some point, you have to release the product.
Think of it as a race: the perfect score is zero. How many people are capable of that?
