Meet the Steven Spielberg of Wakaliwood

- Опубліковано 5 лют 2019
- He’s the cameraman, editor and director. He sometimes even acts. Meet Isaac Nbwana, the founder and creator of Wakaliwood, a DIY production house based in the slums of Uganda. With budgets of no more than $200, Nbwana has created viral movies that have put Wakaliwood on the map. Actors from all over the world come to work on Nbwana’s films, which are all inspired by his home in Wakaliga, a slum in Kampala. With more than 40 films to his credit, Wakaliwood has taken Uganda by storm. One look at the finished product and you’ll understand just how special these films are.

These guys make movies with nonexistent budget and cheapest CGI. Yet they still manage to make their movies fun and entertaining.
They really put studios like Asylum to shame.
Because Asylum is just making quick cashgrabs and they're aware of it, this dudes however just want to make a movie for their village and for the people.
I really hope money doesn't control them at some point.

At first I find this Wakaliwood to be silly and ridiculous but when I found out it's whole story from the lives of people in Uganda to it's humble beggining, man I am touched. Ugandan people make us happy with just a tight budget and relishing its silliness. God bless this people. I'm happy for them.
Fun facts - This man grew up during a civil war and had to outrun gunner helicopters with his brother. His film production studio is named after both his grandmothers. Netflix gave him a bunch of nice filming equipment after Who Killed Captain Alex? went viral. He had never seen a movie theater until he saw his own movie playing at a film festival he was invited to. He did all the editing on a really old outdated computer and to work on the next movie he would have to delete the files for his previous film so the raw files for all his films are just gone forever. If you buy one of his movies or merch, he will send you alot of nice freebies and is extremely kind and personalizes and hand makes everything.
These kind of films are so inspirational and they inspire others who have little hope.
