Hearing Majel Barrett’s voice as the D’s computer absolutely broke me. I stared at the screen for a good 20 minutes after that. My heart…
Honestly, one of the best moments!
Absolutely broke me. Actual tears . Genius stuff.
The line is actually lifted from an episode of TNG. But the thing about hearing her voice again that has been rolling around in my mind is this: before her passing, she recorded a library of phonetic sounds so that the productions that came after her death could still use her voice as the computer. Considering that and the amount of recordings they have of her voicing the computer for three shows and a variety of video games where she provided the voice of the computer, using A.I. tech, they could basically recreate her voice to create new lines if they wanted to and bring her back as the voice of the computer again.
I worked alongside Majel at conventions back in the 90s. She was the most wonderful human being I’ve ever met. My friends and I, who all worked at volunteers at these conventions, all loved her so much ❤🖖🏼🥲
According to a fairly recent interview with her son Rod, the recordings they took before her death weren't actually good enough to work with the technology that was available at the time. But even just within the last year or so, A.I. has come so far that it might be viable again. It's definitely still on his mind.
I watched that last 5 min over and over for an hour right after it ended Then when I woke up i watched that last 5 min for like a half, then went back to sleep. When i finally woke up for the day, watched it again 3 times in a row and I was crying. It was so moving. I was a kid all over again. This was star trek and the hopefulness I felt when I was a kid.
For the record, Geordi thought getting all the ships together was a bad idea. No one listened to him. Now his babies are Borg.
It reminded me a lot of the 2003 Battlestar Galactica series, where Adama held the old-school line on networked computers and systems but was overruled because he was just a crusty old relic, and then the Cylons were able to incapacitate the entire fleet and only the old-model Vipers and Galactica were able to resist the effects.
When the saucer lights came on and showed the 1701-D I started openly crying. It was like coming home.
I think everyone is so emotional because we’ve been seeing all of these weird, dark starship bridges for years now. Seeing that familiar, brightly lit bridge was like stepping out of a cave and into a bright sunny day.
It’s Star Trek’s “Chewie, we’re home” moment.
You weren't the only one 😆
I never thought i would see a well lit starship bridge again. 😋
OMG SUCH a good episode. I lost it when I saw the Enterprise D, and Majel Barrett's voice was icing 😍😍😍
Damn Right.
Like probably everyone, I had goosebumps at the end! 🥰
Big time!
I knew he would eventually call her Seven by the end…
I just… didn’t expect that it would literally be THE end… for him. And he went out fighting. Dammit.
Rest In Peace to our favorite dipshit from Chicago, Captain Liam Shaw. You will be missed.
But in his passing, we get a glorious resurrection: the final missing member of the family.
And it was well worth the wait.
I figured he'd say it in the final episode or something, but yeah, not as he was dying.
@@LezbiNerdy I thought he might retire and leave her a retrofitted Titan as the USS Seven-of-Nine.
Y'know, this is going to seem incredibly nerdy, but when this episode aired, I went and checked Memory Alpha (The Star Trek wiki) to see if it had anything to say. Previously, under 'Status' it had 'Destroyed over Veridian III in 2371.
But by that point they had already updated it. "In Active Service as of 2401"
It was only until Episode 10 came out and she was re-retired in 2402 and installed at the Fleet Museum. But it still made me misty-eyed.
I’ve seen this scene so many Times and every Time I have Tears in my Eyes. I grown up with this Lady. I was so sad this ship was lost in Star Trek Generation and lost Data in Nemesis and now all come together in this beautiful ship . Omg so many Days till next Friday
I know the feeling 😁.
When I saw the Enterprise D, I was cheering! I felt like a kid again, watching the ship flying, the crew setting a course to wherever...so beautiful!
It sounded like the borg queen was the same one from First Contact
I think gathering all the ships at one point was part of the changeling's plan. I don't think a Starfleet that hadn't infiltrated would come up with such a stupid idea.
His name was Captain Shaw, and he was a good man
Something someone pointed out, even though it's just a stock recording, the computer sounds so happy to welcome back Picard
That's Majel Barrett as the computer, her first name is pronounced like "May-Gel"
Thank you! I've never known how to say it!
@@LezbiNerdy it has to be from CHAIN OF COMMAND 2 where Picard returns and Jellico is relieved
@@mem1701movies I agree when Jellico was transferring command back to Picard
I'm digging the floating head approach. :D Especially the best approxinations to your actual facial expressions. lol
The voice from the Borg Queen is the voice from Alice Krige who played the Borg Queen in First Contact and Voyager. I hope she will appear in the final episode. I also hope that Janeway shows up and kicks the Borg Queen's ass one last time.
Alice Kringe didn't play the Borg Queen in Voyager, that was Susanna Thompson.
@@privatecaboose250 Alice Krige played the Queen in the Voyager finale.
@@ChrissonatorOFL ah ok
@@privatecaboose250I think she came back for the series finale.
I think I had a nerdgasm! 😉
Every fan had that here, my friend.
@@mysterion3182 Facts.
21:28 Because there's finally enough light to see it.
I think the Enterprise D is the most beautiful ship they've ever created for this franchise.
So after seeing your reaction and final thoughts:
This is a tribute to The Next Generation, but I also think this is going to be a hand-off to the *Next* Next Generation, so I feel that while the Enterprise crew will certainly have a big say in what happens, I feel like the young characters will ultimately come through to save the day. I'm thinking Jack using the connection to turn the fleet against the Borg, or at least weakening the connection enough for everyone else to come to their senses. I'm guessing Picard goes to the Borg cube and finally is like "you're my son" and that flips Jack into being able to turn things around. At least that is my gut.
We also need time for some wrap up too (like, what happened to all the Changelings? What happens to the ship and the crew? etc.). I feel like one more episode isn't enough but I guess it'll have to be lol.
Edit: noticed that at 21:14 in your reaction, the camera pan of the bridge looks a lot like the initial camera pan in Encounter of Farpoint I think
The reunion with Enterprise D saved the episode for me after the letdown of the "red door" reveal. So there was NO mystery after all. The villain was Borg all along; we simply didn't want to believe it.
The Borg may have lost their mystique over the course of TNG and Voyager, but season 2 of Picard was them getting assasinated as a faction. So I'm happy they're retconning it.
Well think Terry wanted to redo the Borg. Because season 2 writers and some other star trek shows turned Star Treks best villains into irrelevant characters. So Terry is going to give the Borg the justice they deserve!!
@@MrGrownman455 I don't think Terry Matalas chose the Borg as the villain. It's an expensive show, and it wouldn't have been green-lit without a multi-season blueprint. It's more likely that Terry might have inherited the blueprint from the people who pitched the show to Amazon in the first place. If you see, the 3 season lineup of a Data continuation, Q, and Borg are a perfect fit for a Picard show which no studio executive would have turned down. It's the operational aspects that Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman botched in the first two seasons. Data's daughter season was poorly conceived, while the Q-led season was forgettable. Terry has certainly done a better job building season 3. However, the failures of the first two seasons, particularly the unnecessary appearance of Borg, cast a shadow on season 3 too. Had they not overused Borg so much, the reveal, even if predictable, would have been far more compelling.
@@sankalp6872
You mean pitched to CBS not Amazon.
13:21 you are the only you tuber I’ve seen that actually is doing a reaction. Every other you tuber is doing a review lol. And this sucks because I can watch Starwars reacts, GOT reacts, movie reacts. And yours is the best. Well done @Lezbi Nerdy 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Oh you should check out Bodi -- (UA-cam channel: Just Some Bodi's Opinion), he does a LOT of Star Trek reactions!, including Picard)
Something to note - if you look closely at the leading edge of the saucer on the lower side and look "back" aft, the saucer section it is still bearing scars of the last fight it had as its original full self
Your reaction to the Enterprise D is by FAR my favorite. I just found your channel and I hope you do more TV/movie reactions in the future.
🎶 something's up with jack! something's up with jack! 🎶
I was starting to suspect it was the Borg earlier in the season. The voice whispering the line "connect us" started to point me in that direction and the hints sprinkled in after that seemed to confirm my suspision. So as you can imagine, I was very happy with the reveal, and soo pleased with myself I nearly dislocated my shoulder patting myself on the back😁😁
LOL, be careful with that!
Something I completely missed is Jack’s hallucination while washing his face was filmed nearly identically to Picard’s nightmare in First Contact. Both scenes were even directed by Jonathan Frakes!
Resistance is Fertile
I see what you did there.
Maybe I should start believing in fate? I'm not kidding: I watched Best of Both Worlds yesterday and today on a rerun in German TV, and now this? As long as I don't hear voices and don't see a red door....And Shelby came full circle: Ambitious as she was, she used the Borg to skyrocket her career. And the Borg ended her.
The lack of empathy for shaw is troubling. A lot of lipservice is said towards the handling of trauma, but when it comes to dealing with actual people with PTSD, it's sad that people can't see past the asshole that the tramua created.
So, okay... someone who has trauma from, say Desert Storm, if they are racist to a Middle Eastern person, and refuse to call them by their name today, that's okay, cause trauma.
Right. Got it.
@@LezbiNerdy empathy goes a long way. And it matters the most when you have it for people you like the least. Otherwise, it's just selfish, lipservice.
@@idleeidolon And so of course, no empathy for Seven for having someone refuse to use her chosen name because they have issues stemming from something that happened 2 decades ago.
I do have empathy for him. But if, over the course of 2 decades, he hasn't learned to treat people who were not even involved in the incident that caused his trauma then it's now a matter of him taking responsibility for his own attitudes.
Like, I find this a troubling thing to be like "no, his trauma means that he's allowed to treat people like shit and we must all just be okay with that."
Everyone is traumatized by something. Everyone has shit in their history. We need to try and treat each other well.
New time viewer. It's so cute watching your cute disembodied head watching the tv. Heh.
by the way how did you made that 3d Head moving like your actual head? did you made it with an program you have to pay for? because i was thinking to use it for some of my videos. And one more thing: do you know, that the "correct computer voice" as you call it is actually Majel Barrett roddenberry? so its Gene Roddenberrys Wife who plays lewxanna Troi and acts as the Computer Voice of TNG and Voyager.
Don't remember what the rest of the episode was about, nor do I care. We got our girl back, as well as our computer space mom back, and that makes me happy 😄
Computer Space Mom!!!!!
The show is a victim of its own success in.a way. I know you didn't love him like I did, but a Seven of Nine-led Titan show is only interesting to me. A Shaw show would have been appointment viewing. Hope they bring him back a few times in sci-fi ways. #superhelpfulmirrorshaw
I’m here for Star Trek:The Next Smooching Generation.😹I joked over on Twitter that we’d see the return of Control(Ariam’s red eyes in season 2 of DISCO) or Worf battling Borg Attack Tribbles before episode 9 aired. I really wish it’d been Pah Wraiths, or some other shadow entity like the ones seen in the Temporal Cold War, but we got the Borg…again. Maybe Jurati’s collective will show up to help in the last episode? Just a thought. Loved your reaction as always, and here’s hoping the next episode is as good as the last ten minutes of this one!😸🖖🏽💫🌿🌌
Amazing review! thank you :)
I'm honestly kind of a B-tier Star Trek fan. I watched the original as a kid and liked it but never loved it. I watched TNG off and on but I've probably seen fewer than half the episodes. Watched a couple seasons of Voyager before dropping it. Only a handful of DS9 eps during its original run (but I finally watched the whole thing during the pandemic and it was great). Seen all the movies. So I've seen a lot of Trek over the years, but it's never really been near the top of my fandom list the way it is for some.
That said, watching someone with a nearer and dearer emotional attachment to the series just FEEL ALL THE FEELS with each new step into nostalgia-land was a delight. I recognized the Enterprise D and remembered it had crashed, but seeing it again for me was more like "that's cool, about what I'd have guessed - the old 'get an older version of the [whatever tech] that the evil aliens can't control' " instead of the ZOMG-IT'S THE ENTERPRISE-D! SO MANY MEMORIES! that you enjoyed. Majel (pronounced MAY-jull as far as I'm aware) Barrett's voice on the computer sounded familiar and if you asked me whose voice it was I probably would've guessed it was hers, given how many times she voiced the computer, but I don't have the same resonance for just hearing that voice like you.
I love your enthusiasm and it was very touching to see how moved you were by the things they pulled off in this episode. Let's hope they bring it to a great climax next time!
That was Magnificent!
Only the star drive section was blown up in Generations, the saucer section crash landed on Veridian III but was still able to be towed away at the end of that movie (as Geordi says, to preserve the prime directive and prevent the inhabitants of Veridian IV from eventually finding it when they eventually achieve spaceflight and travel to Veridian III). Geordi got a star drive section from another de-commissioned Galaxy class ship.
Makes sense, the saucer section did come down more or less intact.
I'm an effing mess right now.
Are you going to review and watch season 2 of Strange New Worlds this summer?
Hi, @Lezbi Nerdy! My name is Dan! I’m a very positive person and I want you to know that I LOVE YOU!!! You are a wonderful person and you should always be proud of yourself! BYE!!!
Also, you’re the first! I plan to spread as much positivity as possible because Earth can be a tough place! BYE!!!
That Voyagerish ship is NCC 1701 F!!!!!! AKA ENTERPRISE F!!!!!!!! Enterprise F MAKES ITS FIRST EVER CANON APPEARANCE IN STAR TREK HISTORY, IT WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED BY A FAN FOR STAR TREK ONLINE GAME!!!!!!
my neighbors heard me scream i think. My childhood with my brother watching every week to TNG. GOOSEBUMPS/COLD CHILLS.....
You're early! XD. Also apparently your thing about "Borg DNA" wasn't actually that far off! lol. Can't wait to see this reaction...
yeah! I didn't have to teach an evening class today, so i wasn't as burnt out!
I can't stop rewatching your reaction cause
1) It's fun to see someone else react to this legendary episode, and
2) Watching your head almost literally explode multiple times is hilarious
I'm glad you enjoy it!
If they destroy it, hopefully it will be under more worthy circumstances than those Kilngon sisters.
I always find it amusing watching reactions like this, it always gives away so much of the reactors' true morals and ideals. sometimes it's not pretty
I have no idea how to take this, lol
This season and episode in particular is some of the best Trek to ever Trek.
the voice isn't mom.... it's mommy 🤣
We need Janeway and 7 together
That is the one thing that's been hinted at all season that we haven't seen yet: Admiral Janeway
D vs F
One borg cube is dangerous enough to take out a small armada
when i saw the borg cube, i literally shouted: "again?!" not here for it. and even more not even a little bit here for them rewriting picard's brain abnormality as oh actually this great man is not just human and therefore vulnerable but all along it was his greatest enemy that almost took him down. the savior of humanity can't just be a sheepherder; he obv must be a long lost prince. great men are not just humans
love it
Okay, my prediction. Jack has control of all the new drones. The Queen will roll up to Earth in her cube. Picard will show with the D. Jack will have to pick a side. He'll side with his parents, and free all the Starfleet crew members. An EPIC space battle will commence between the Borg ship and all of Starfleet.
Star Trek gave the fans what they wanted. Star Wars robbed the fans of the original cast all being together
This episode had huge New Battlestar Galactica vibes somehow....
I liked what you mentioned at about 12:20 about the Borg queen being so weirdly intimate. That was a lot of the eerieness of Alice Krige's performance as the Borg queen in ST: First Contact, the truly seductive quality that she exuded to the ST regular crew (and doubly so for Data).
princess weekes just released a great video on how the jedi suck bc they are down on anakin for loving his mom - but ppl should visit their moms!
Hey the set got me!! I was 10 when the D was destroyed in Generations and seeing it again now at 38, I blubbered I’ll be honest 🥲🥲
"it's fictional" 💀
the " D "....
Ist das jetzt die neueste Verarschung dieser bescheuerten Welt, animierte Comic-Köpfe als Kanalbetreiber?
Off Topic: We need a 7 of 9 trek series to carry the show bloodline of the current trek. We got Strange New Worlds prequel, Disco (which is ending soon) Future trek. Prodigy as animated current trek. We need to carry on the current trek line and 7 is perfect!!!
In Latin textbooks (and some ancient Roman signs) the macron over vowels lengthens the vowel; in Classical pronunciation, vöx would be rendered 'wokes' with a little lengthening on the o. Church Latin would have it 'vokes'.
Antimatter fireworks 😊
The computer voice has to be from CHAIN OF COMMAND
Wait so season 3 of Picard basically has forgotten the last 2 seasons? Because didn't the new Borg queen become their ally at the end of season 2?
Looks like the old Borg Queen, exiled and alone, is making her comeback against the new one.
Let’s be honest I was disappointed it was the borg but I think that’s Alice Krige’s Queen😊
It sounded very much like her. And she was Locutus’ “friend”. IMDb list another actress though.
@@rapunzl347 could be someone else is standing in as the person in the scene but I'm pretty sure it is Alice Krige's voice
It was Alice Krige. She came back to do the voice
@@200wattstudio8 thanks. That’s so cool!
HIS NAME IS LIAM SHAW! Bah! (lol)
ENTERPRISE D!!!!!!!!!! THE OG ENTERPRISE D!!!!!!!!!!! THE OG ENTERPRISE D SET!!!!!!!
Vindication! My episode seven comment quite close me thinks.
Liam Shaw captain of the uss titan a
plese dont destroy the enterpris d at the end
Why are you so emotional about a set.....because it's not just a set, it is the Enterprise NCC 1701 D....it's home for this crew, and for the fans who grew up with TNG....the heartbreak we felt watching her on Viridian III, yet here she stands, reading to fight an old foe, ready to do what needs to be done.....and she has her crew, her captain.....her family.
The Borg never stood a chance.
jack doesn't have a plan! they tricked ppl into thinking he's smart bc he has smart parents & a british accent. but they also cast a pretty boy who looks like kirk - and uh oh he's dumb like kirk! i know i just said a controversy, but kirk isn't smart - he's brash & lucky
So no one cares that the excelsior was Elnors post?
i didnt like it. why have a juartir borg if the borg is going to be the enemy again
I did not know she passed that makes me so sad.
love it
