Watching your videos has inspired me to attempt and fix the loads of slightly broken electronics in my house. Just went and bought the ifixit set. Thanks for helping me find a new hobby; I’ve been searching for one.
Nice fix Mate... I live in Jacksonville Florida which is where Lynyrd Skynyrd hails from and I am good friends with Darlene, Johnny and Donnie Van Zant ( Ronnies siblings) and they would be proud to here you singing "That Smell " Well done mate... excellent sleuthing work and repair. Kudos
Thanks Ron. Wow, that's so cool that you know the Van Zant's! I'm a massive fan, so please pass on my regards (not that they'll have a clue who I am 🤣)
What a fun idea for a channel! So interesting to see him take on such problems and just have to troubleshoot it on his own with no guidance or instructions. Very fun and clever. I love how he said “come on!” and “get in” when fixing a device in the same way my British friends say that when watching football (soccer).
This is the exact fault I have with mine that I also bought “untested” so I will be following along diligently! Already have my chip on the way (plus a spare for when I inevitably f it up 😂) thanks for your thorough video !
I remember when Mr. Steve only had a couple hundred subs and would reply to every comment… Insane how he got so popular in a short amount of time, happy for him!
Hey man. Nice video and nice rap song. I can tell your channel is going to blow up from the audio and video quality. I remember when fry's had the PS1 classic on promo code for $40. I wish I would have gotten two or three of em. (And the ps tv which I did buy but it broke) wish I could mail you it and have you fix it for a video but I guess I'd never get it back then huh 😃
I just bought one of these from Facebook marketplace and met the guy selling it. Untested,1 controller, no power supply. Worked perfect when I tested it and I only paid $15 USD.
Well done Steve but you have more balls than me l wouldn’t have taken the chip out of your good one just to see if that was it but you did good 👍 😊and merry Christmas 🎄
Maybe you are interested in the RTS5482 chip (USB hub) for PS Classic mini? I bought three pieces, replaced one in my console and it helped. I have two pieces left, one stays in stock, and I can give you the last one.
Always wanted to get hold of some broken mini console from ebay or a 8 bit console from wish that looks line a nes or something. Just to gut it, put in a rasperry pi 3b and make it neat looking
You are insane to risk your working one like that, but I think your insanity is why we love the channel. In a couple months when the new chip comes in I guess we'll see if you can now get your original one working again.
what's the brand off the heat camera, where did you buy it ? Love your channel and i'm still learning to do repairs also. keep up the great work. Greetings from a big Fan :)
nice job man. So good to see people fixing electronics rather than throwing them in the trash over a cheap an easy fix. what type of flux are you using? It looks like it pours out pretty tacky. I might want to pick some up.
It's not a cheap and easy fix for someone with no experience in electronics repair, none of the needed tools, no replacement parts, and no idea what's wrong.
I was actually worried about the way you did it because you didn't check the capacitors when the chip was off. So if it was a shorted capacitor that blew out the first chip, it would have blown out your replacement one.
Yep, it is tricky because if it was on anything but a power rail it would draw normal power until the new chip was added and it blew out the pin (and rest of chip) and shorted it out again.
I bought one of these things brand new for $20 USD on clearance. It's still brand new in the box to this day. I do suppose that makes mine untested as well, though.
You know your doing youtube well when they dump adverts on your video every 60-90 seconds. Another great video, I would love to try what you do but no space or money for the equipment you use. I guess I'm stuck to watching your videos broken up by adverts. Maybe someday I can follow in your footsteps, your videos surely inspire others as they do me. Keep up the great work.
This is usually set by the YTer themselves. Either that or they don't bother changing it after YT does it automatically to their vids. (don't blame them for old vids but new vids should be kept up with)
Mine went faulty, same symptoms. I had a powered usb hub connected to one of the controller ports. The hub went faulty, the power surge took out the Realtek chip 😢
If they change the BOM (Build of Materials) for ICs (usually) they change the version of the board. Sometimes that means if they use (for example) Hynix memory chips rather than Samsung they change the board version so that they know which versions they are dealing with. It allows for metrics on which boards come back and for what reasons.
I just bought a broken PSClassic with a burnt RTS5482 chip, I am going to try rework it and replace the chip on my channel but inevitably I may have to bin the whole thing if I can’t repair it. Will see once the new SMD IC chip arrives 🤞
Incredibly brave(?) to take that chip off the working one and hope the other board isn't overall faulty and fries your chip... I don't think I would have!
I don't know if you check these later but apparently these are pretty easy to mod or whatever to turn into great little emulators of games from several years ago+ and probably get a lot more use out of little things like these
The untested lie reminds me of going into a Pawn America once. They warranty all electronics for x amount of time. BUT there was one corner where they had a shelf of miscellaneous electronics that had a sign that said "All work but sold as is." Yeah, sure they do.
All of my untested listings also state that there have been no repairs attempted so hopefully that puts the buyers at ease. Also if I sell a for repair/parts item I will disclose if a repair has been attempted.
eBay's prices are completely ridiculous. I've bought one of these locally (Belgium) for €30, a couple of months ago. It was like new and only needed me to install the custom firmware to turn it into a capable emulation box. I cannot believe that people are selling faulty items for these prices...
Typically if you see a crazy price for something, it's more likely that's what people are PAYING rather than what they're selling for. You can only blame yourselves, eBay sellers just price things based on recent solds, so...

But I picked up a lot of 5 consoles from a yard sale last year, and the master system and og Xbox didn't include cables. So I just sold as is. Both buyers got lucky and they worked!

"Untested" means "Broken", "F***ED" or "I had a go myself and now it's even more broken", well that's what I've usually found...
