In the 1970's I lived in a very small South Dakota town in South Dakota and listened to the CBS Mystery Theater on WNAX radio. I really looked forward to these outstanding radio plays!

I have all ways loved,. EG Marshalls,.. Mystery Theater, ever since i was in my twenties..Now, that ill soon be sixty years old,. i enjoy it much more ! Sometimes,. i feel Television nowadays, has sort of ruined my love for entertainment..Every time i switch on my TV,. it seem to be the same old repetitious subjects. I'm especially referring, to zombies! With programs like Mystery Theater,. more room is left for your imagination. And,. as a writer,. this is important to me !

As a kid in Fairbanks, AK I was a regular listener of this show. Until the local station changed formats. Oh, how I missed it! That creaking door, and the original narration. "I'm E.G. Marshall." Yes you sure are, baby.
    Thank you for uploading these.

Many old time radio shows are available in different formats on otrcat.com. Depending on the show, I can get 40 hours on one MP3 CD for my old MP3 player for $5. These are nice to listen to, except they are not portable. Or at least I don't know how to download to my phone etc. Better here because they are free.

I was in 11th grade and had to be in bed by 9pm. I was hard to wake up on school mornings hee hee. So I went to bed but i hid under the covers with a flash light and my radio tuned to this very station! Love it! EG Marshall was the best!

Cold winter nights...time to pull the bedclothes over you with ghost stories and fantasy! Perhaps two radio play ghost stories I’ve produced AND a brand new mystery listed on my channel “Claude Chabot Presents” right here on YT AND a radio fantasy comedy, “A Trip to the Moon” starring Joyce Randolph of The Honeymooners, which features Larry Robinson, who, as a child actor, actually worked with Orson Welles. Here’s the link: ua-cam.com/video/Hex2ltykNTM/v-deo.html--Claud. If you don’t want to click the link just search “Claude Chabot presents” on UA-cam.

Interesting link about this great show on Wikipedia. The actors were paid a surprisingly low $73.92 per show. Writers made $350 per show.
Sadly, Moorehead died of cancer only 4 months after she appeared in this.

Today is the *45th* anniversary of when CBS Radio Mystery Theater made its debut. My father was 16 and my mother was 12 at the time. 🤓
EDIT- 3:15 P.M.: *finishes video an hour and 30 minutes later*
This was the second episode of the show that I listened to. The first was "The Summer People". I listened to it on October 25, 2018, the day after the *43rd* anniversary of when it first came out.

i'm sure - well, pretty sure - that the date is meant to be 1947, not 1974. :))
i'm not 100% sure because sometimes these shows were re-broadcast, and True Value Hardware is STILL a viable sponsor!
i thank you very much for uploading these shows. i was raised on re-runs of these old shows, but now i can listen to them whenever i like! :))

No. The 1974 dates are correct for "CBS Radio Mystery Theater". There were 1,399 episodes aired from 1974 to 1982.

1974 is the correct date. Hyrum Brown (I think he was behind this) was trying to revive radio drama as a viable entertainment option and CBS radio gave him a platform to do it from 1974 to either 1980 or 1982...and Sears was behind a completely different attempt at reviving radio with a different format nightly, on a different network (I think it was Mutual, but that could be way off)

No, this series was created and directed by Himan Brown in 1974 for CBS radio. This is the very first episode they ran of it on January 6th, 1974 and was written by Henry Slesar not long before it was recorded and then broadcast, so no, even the script is not from the 1940s.
