  • Welcome to this Pedals & Patches series video on the Replicator Junior by T-Rex. There was the original Replicator pedal, Eurorack module, Junior and now the D'LUX too. What you'll see here is applicable to them all and the use of many other tape echos.
    Pedals & Patches is a video series where I explore guitar FX pedals in creative studio environments, with synths, modular and instruments across the studio all with an electronic music leaning. I'd love to know what pedals you're using with synths and in the studio, let's chat in the comments!

    And thanks for the interlude showcasing the mechanical noise. I'd always assumed my (new to me) full size original Replicator had a fault so this has given me reassurance that actually all is well 🙂

      it felt important as things like that always come as a shock when mechanical gear like that is new to us.

      @@DivKid This is true, the RE501 Chorus Echo I had 30 years ago was just as noisy (mechanically) but I put it down to age. I sit my Replicator on a bed of acoustic foam, it reduces any vibrations through the table top at least.

      ah thank you that's kind. To be honest tape echos are usually a device I can play very little into and be very happy with. I really do love them, but it's not going to be for everyone, certainly the more grungy ones like this.

    I didn't expect it to be so low-fi and I love it! I don't know why I assumed/remembered they stopped making these a few years ago. Now that I've checked I remember seeing the Eurorack module some time ago.

    What's the top right Serge panel at the end card? Does it really have Ciat Lonbarde circuits, ir. the AV Dog? Do you know where I can find this?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 місяці тому +1

      The last patch?
      Anyway there's 5 Serge panels. A programmer sequencer built by Finlay Shakespeare and his BPoOT guise (beautiful pieces of outdated technology), then a mk1 Edelweiss panel which a panel Ralf from Random Source designed the module choices of but the boards themselves are all CGS inside. Then there's the Benhayon Percussion Synthesizer which is like a Ciat Lonbarde Plumbutter based on the open circuits by Peter Blasser, this was a panel made by Finlay again, then the top two are the DIY homebuild 73-75 panels.
      Fair whack of info, happy to take any questions.

    What’s that modification on the Boss DM-100?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 місяці тому +2

      good find, though it's a massive knob that's hard to miss! It's a chorus rate mod. When you put it in the chorus mode it's preset, this breaks out the modulation of the BBD rate onto the knob. I didn't do it, it came that way from the previous owner.

    • @PWMaarten

    Which is better eurorack or desktop pedal

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 місяці тому +1

      "better" isn't a word I'd use as it's subjective and needs more detail than just picking one over the other.
      They made a pedal and Eurorack version, some improvements happened in the mechanism I believe with this version (Junior) and they've made improvements (they say) again with the D'LUX version that's now available and that has new features too.
      I got to try the Euro version (long time back now, 5 years ago I think) and I didn't feel the CV control added much and this version has plenty of modulation from he wow and flutter of the tape anyway.
      So if we rephrase to which version would I get ... I get the latest D'LUX pedal.

    I’ve got eurorack version of this and it sounds really really wobbly. TBH I thought it’s faulty but your one sounds about the same. Quite expensive module

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 місяці тому

      were you wanting that level of character (to be positive), lo fi (good or bad) etc?
      Sounds like that wasn't the case. I really like it, but I am into that sort of thing and some of my tape echos (that need a service, but I'm leaving them as degraded grunge machines) are similar. I went on a tape binge though so like having multiple filters I enjoy it as one of a few tape flavours in the studio.
      I believe the first pedal and euro version were updated for this version and updated again for the new D'LUX pedal version.

    • @andypandy321
      @andypandy321 2 місяці тому

      It’s almost like it’s got too much of the character but then if it was clean sounding there wouldn’t be much point of buying it. Digital delay would work just fine. This module definitely has got lots of character and maybe I just haven’t yet figured it out fully and the best modules to use it with
      BTW, what’s your favourite eurorack 303 module ?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 місяці тому

      Yeah it's definitely intense and unless older tape echoes are a thing you've tried I think it can catch people off guard and just be too much as you say. Ultimately digital emulations are great, don't need maintenance and are often stereo. I like having options for both of those.
      I like to patch "303-like" things myself out of all sorts of things. But specifically for the 303, a Stepper Acid sequencer from Transistor Sound Labs and the X0X Heart (got one sort of recently) is a great combo.

    D-Seed II by Joyo. found on amazon. super cheap, stereo with a lot of effects. Best cheap pedal ever. Of course, a Canyon by Electro Harmonic, and a Boss Rv-6 foreReverb. The SoundStudio gets happy :) My hack is to stereo the D-Seed with Mavis and M-32 going into it and stereo out goes into SS mixer. The last 2 l/r inputs on mixer gets the Dfam and Subharmonicon. I also patch Mavis into the Subharmonicon and thats all folks! Thanks for all your work and inspiration, Ben. Once again, after i watch your videos, i go play with the gear. Good gear, not "Bad Gear" (yes, it's a Florian reference :)

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Місяць тому

      I remember seeing the D-Seed some time back. I used to teach guitar and a few of my students had Joyo pedals, I used to play with a guitarist who had a Joyo pedal American something pedal Fender amp style tone to it which was decent.
      Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad I can inspire playing with your gear, that's wonderful. All the best!
