The Doors were among the most controversial & influential rock acts of the 60's, mostly due to Jim Morrison's lyrics & voice. They had a lot of great songs such as "Riders On The Storm", "Love Me Two Times", "The End", "Break On Through (To The Other Side)", "People Are Strange", "Light My Fire", "L.A. Woman", "Hello, I Love You", "Touch Me", "The Unknown Soldier", "Love Her Madly". Sadly Jim Morrison died in 1971 at the age of only 27 but left a great legacy of music.
Yes I agree I'm a drummer and actually play a lot of the songs you listed...And with only 6 studio albums and 1 live album in 5-6 yrs their brief career was a burst of uncontrollable energy and inspiration 🤘🧐✌️
Doors were among the best American 60's - 70's bands. Hard to go wrong. They were elevating rock and roll, so in that respect they were a progressive band.
Besides being a singer and songwriter, Jim Morrison was a poet and incorporated that into his lyrics. The Doors were an influential band of the late 60's and early 70's. Other songs - Riders on the Storm, Light My Fire, Break on Through to start with.
The Doors' most iconic song is the one that put them on the map: "Light My Fire." If you react to it, make sure to do the full seven-minute version. There's also "Touch Me," which gives off a Vegas vibe.
Jim Morrison is unfortunately apart of the 27 Club 😢 this talented incredibly sexy man died at only 27yrs old. One of the greatest Rock singer-songwriters & frontman in history. The Doors are the first American band to receive eight consecutive certified gold LPs. Jim was inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & he continues to be on every list of greatest singers of all time. While the Beatles, Elvis, & Rolling Stones, Beach Boys doing their thing - you had the music of The Doors igniting the youth & scaring the hell out of conventional people who weren't ready for his lyrics & on stage presence. Jim was mesmerizing - sexy, surly, wild, & mysterious. When the Doors appeared on the Ed Sullivan show they were told they had to change a line in their hit song "Light My Fire" about a girl gettting "higher". Jim being his typical bad ass self ignored the request & sang the song as written. They were subsequently banned from the show 😂 as if Jim cared. His musical influence, clothing style, & attitude helped usher in every major Rock band of the 70's & beyond. Light My Fire Break On Through (to the other side) L.A. Woman Riders On The Storm Love Me Two Times People Are Strange Love Her Madly Hello, I Love You
@raymo6795 Thank you so much for leaving a message 💗 how sweet of you! I still watch everyone's videos but I took a lil break from my typical comment like this. Jim inspired me today 😂
"We'll get some more Doors on the channel if needed." Yeah, The Doors are always needed :) Other big hits include Light My Fire, The End, Riders On The Storm, .... so much more.
I saw the Doors twice second time I was right against the stage I could literally almost touch Jim's feet. The band I'm in now we do quite a bit of Doors covers.

The interesting thing about “being driven by the bass line“ as you mentioned, is that there was no bassist! The Doors used a couple of different bass players in the studio, but during live performances (like the one you listened to here) keyboardist Ray Manzarek played the bass parts with his left hand. If you noticed, there were no left hand chords being played. I’m sure you will get many suggestions for songs. Way back when we used to say that when it came to listening to the Doors you could just put an album on the turntable and drop the needle anywhere and not be disappointed!
Best rock band ever, full stop. The baritone voice and songwriting of the enigmatic front man Morrison backed by the brilliant musicianship of Manzarek ,Krieger and Densmore.
B&B. Love the reaction - they are in the Mount Rushmore of classic Rock. Light my Fire was the sound track of 1967. The singer Jim Morrison is a very deep layered artist. The epitome of a Rock Star. Live fast Die young
The Doors had their beginning in a chance meeting between Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek on a LA beach . Jim , a poet and UCLA student was writing down some poetry . Ray a musician telling Jim that he could put his poetry to music .
I grew up in that era and watched last night The Doors at the Hollywood Bowl 1968 and was reminded how astonishing this band was. Minimalist drum kit, complicated arrangements by times with very little cues given between band members ie very tightly rehearsed, great songs Wow
This Band was so unique, as they seemingly could play many different styles of Blues, Rock, and stuff that had no name to describe it. Jim Morison was such a different cat. One of only 3 members of the infamous "27 club." Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix being the other two members. All died at the peak of their stardom in the same era, at the age of 27.
Jim Morrison could also have a really rich smooth tone when he wanted to. One of many examples, and one of my favorite Doors songs, is their hit Don't You Love Her Madly.
🔥🔥🔥 FIRE! An iconic singer., band and song. Jim was one of the best! Many very good songs l. Light my FIRE, Love me Two Times, Hello I Love You, Touch Me. LA Woman, Moonlight Drive and more.
I think you will also like Waiting For The Sun. I particularly like the Moog- like sound that Ray gets on on this track. But its apparently a distorted organ.
This looks like his Dec 10 1967 concert at New Haven, Connecticut. He was arrested after a cop caught him making out with a woman in a shower stall then maced him when he refused to leave the stall. Although he apologized after realizing he had just maced one of America's biggest rock stars Morrison was not happy and verbally abused the officer during the instrumental break of "Back Door Man" (via Please Kill Me), triggering a riot as cops charged the stage and tried to arrest the frontman. He was then charged with inciting a riot, indecency, and public obscenity. He got arrested a lot. Several while on stage.
The doors have many great songs. As the other comments are mentioning, however, riders in the storm is unique. That is the last song the JIM recorded before his death. The production of that song is a masterpiece And well, worth your time to do a reaction.
My friend, there are no bad choices as far as the Doors are concerned. There catalog is one of the strongest of any group and they are arguably one of the greatest if not the greatest American rock band of all time. Thank you for taking the time to listen and getting other younger people to listen.
I would strongly suggest that you listen and watch their live TV performance for "Touch Me". It's a different sound for them, but it's a very popular song. Know you both would love it!
One of the seminal rock/blues/jazz bands of the '60's-early '70's, very influential. The studio version of this song is better, but it's fun seeing how the Doors caused mosh pits before mosh pits were a thing. Vocalist Jim Morrison is, sadly, a member of the "27 Club", having passed away of a drug overdose at 27. Thanks for your reaction.
Yes this was a live song from the Absolutely Live albums...Im a huge Doors fan and as a drummer I enjoy playing a lot of thier songs...The organ player Ray Manzerk was a classically trained musician as was Robby Krieger the guitaist and Jonh Densmore the drummer was a Jazz trained player... Morrison was not a trained musician but was very gifted with words and deep philosophical themes and the other members created an evil carnival-like musical palate for Jim's poetry and lyrics... Unfortunately bc of Jim's wild life style uncontrollable personality and repeated runs ins with the law including the FBI made his life a whirlwind and ultimately contributed to him becoming a memebr of the 27 Club Thx for the vid ✌️🧐🤘
The instrument you're asking about I believe is a Hammond B8. It was about the only portable, full-keyboard electronic organ. You'll hear it in a lot of the music from around this time.
When I was visiting my brother in San Francisco way back when, I could always tell when it was gonna be a partyin' kind of day 'cause somewhere around 5:30-6:00 A.M., he'd start BLASTING this tune. Kinda like reveille on steroids, LOL!!! Great tune, great reaction!
Great reaction! The Doors were one of the bad boy groups of their time. Jim Morrison was an undeniable vocal and musical talent, but his flame burned brightly and was snuffed out way too soon. They have many great songs - Light my Fire, Riders on the Storm, People Are Strange, Whiskey Bar and others.
This is in fact a live version of the song recorded not long after the studio version. The unique bass sound is due to the fact that the Doors never had a bass guitar player on stage. They used studio players on all their album’s except the first, but for live shows Ray Manzarek played organ AND keyboard bass at the same time!
THE END is where you need to go with the Doors. It is one of their signature songs from the first record. The Doors believed that art is long. And it is in their extended music that you find the best of the band. Their singles are good radio to draw your attention, but songs like, WHEN THE MUSIC'S OVER LIGHT MY FIRE, from the Ed Sullivan Show gave us a sneak peak into the power and energy the band would unleash on the country the next few years. THE SOFT PARADE from the Soundstage Performances, L.A. WOMAN, RIDERS ON THE STORM leave the deepest impression. And while Jim Morrison gets the most attention, the other members, Ray Manzarek, on the keyboards, Robbie Kreiger whose lean, sinuous sliding guitar was the perfect accent for many songs, and John Densmore holding down the the beat with perfect percussion should not be overlooked. They are a Quartet that brings both the carnival and the carnal to eerie life and explores the desolation of the human condition on soundscape of ideas both new and old. The Doors were one of the first bands to establish the longer narrative in music using the album format. To bring a more mature story to the structure and writing. Is everybody in? The Doors are open. Enjoy the journey.
Definitely a live version of this song, the studio version is awesome as well. Their biggest hit song, my all time favorite of theirs, is "Light My Fire" the extended version about 7 minutes. Sadly the lead singer, Jim Morrison, passed away at the age of 27 in 1971 a few months after Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin all members of The 27 Club. Sorry to report.
This is one of The Doors' more bluesy songs. If you want to react to another song of theirs, I recommend "Riders on the storm". It's slower and moodier but still great.
I'm a long time big fan of The Doors; saw them live in 1968. If you want to hear a good sample of their music,"Light My Fire" is a must. Rider On the Storm", "People Are Strange", and "Touch Me" are good wat to show their wide range, which is rock, blues, and jazz.
Really glad you enjoyed The Doors. The band was active from 1967 to 1971, and then the lead singer and front man Jim Morrison quit and suddenly died, and sort of fizzled out. Back in the late 1960s there wasn't the delineation of music there is now. The Doors music was Rock [Dylan was folk rock]. The Doors had several hits. I would suggest Crystal Ship. Riders on the Storm, Hello I Love You, and LA Woman. But if you want something longer try The End, or When The Music is Over.
🤘🏼❤️🤘🏼 hey guys, I love the channel. Love, the Contin!! Just a little FYI, the baseline on most of their music is played by the organ as they did not have a basis! Great pianist/organist Ray Manzarek.❤️❤️❤️
This represents The Doors and the times. I was a teenager at this time and the music around the world was pyschedelic blues. Doors, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Jopelin, Ten Years after… sorry if I missed any. The authorities were out in full force trying to control these live concerts from language and crowd control, Jim was taken off stage by cops and jailed. This was before computers. Concerts were the big thing. Loved every minute of this….and yes this was a typical concert and the Police were busy arresting people including Jim Morrison.
FIRST TIME??? 😮YIKESSSSSSSS! OH YEAH, YOU NEED TO DO MORE DOORS PHIL AND SAM, LED BY THE LEAD SINGER GOD REST HIS SOUL ☹ ( JIM MORRISON ) THE GEAT AMERICANNN POET😊 HE WAS ONE OF THE THREE CLASS OF 27 PHIL AND SAM, DIED AT 27, THE OTHER 2 WERE : JIMI HENDRIX & JANIS JOPLIN, ENJOYYYYY!
Definitely a live recording over a video that seemed to only show the chaos that Jim Morrison inspired. My first rock concert was The Doors, just before the album this song was on was dropped. Interestingly, since you noticed the bass, the group had no bass player. Ray Manzarek, the keyboard player, used to provide the bass sound. On this song, I remember the band using Lonnie Mack, a famous guitar player from the 50's, who opened for them, as the bass player on this song. The group's most iconic song would be Light My Fire. Hardcore fans of the group loved the long songs, The End, When The Music's Over, and Soft Parade above all others. Morrison, unfortunately, is a member of the 27 club, passing away Spring '71.
My favorite Doors song. Their signature song is probably "Light My Fire." "LA Woman" "Love Me Two Times" "Love Her Madly" and "People Are Strange" are others to name a few.
Light My Fire was their first hit song. I suggest the longer album version. Some instrumentals were removed from the long version for the short AM radio hit. Also, Doors concerts were crazy. I suggest the studio versions
The band with no bass guitarist, everything comes from keyboardist R.M.; love their live albums because some of the songs are longer and musically more interesting. It's best to proceed somewhat chronologically, then you can hear the development; i.e. start with the first single and at the same time US No.1 Light My Fire, then Break On Through etc.👍✌
When you get the chance check out the Movie. It stars Val Kilmer as the Lizard king and Meg Ryan is his squeeze. There's a bit part for Billy Idol in it too. FWIW Val sings the songs himself. I think he did a great job and it really tells the story as closely as possible. Just so you know they didn't have a bass player. Ray Manzarek played it on his keyboards. My favorite Doors song.🤩
Jim Morrison, the lead singer, was one of the best front men in the business at the time. The only one who could compare to him was Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones. The band played all kinds of music that wasn't mainstream at the time, but they made it poplular. They incorporated a lot of blues and jazz into their music. One of the group's best songs was the last one that they recorded before Jim went to Paris and died. That song was Riders of the Storm and featured some of the best jazz piano playing ever made in Rock 'N Roll. Their keyboard player, Ray Manzarak, was brilliant in that song and you have to react to it. The Doors made some of the best music in the late 1960s. Too bad that Jim left us so young.
Start with the first album and go from there. I can't think of any other band that can take you on the journey the Doors can. The music is Acid Rock Blues which includes Jimi Hendrix, 13th Floor Elevators, and other great psychedelic bands that all seemed to come together in 67.
I have always liked a lot of Doors music. I own a great collection of rock bio's and dvd's because I wanted to learn about life, music, politics and what it was like to be in that scene. When you read these books you learn so much more than just the band and the music. If you like The Doors or just want to increase your knowledge of a different era (i'm 57) I would recommend getting a copy of "Jim Morrison Life Death Legend". Any book you find about a band/singer, producer, tour manager, record company exec is going to be entertaining. Esp the 65-90 era.
The Doors were one of two of the best concerts we went to a 68. It was at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Arizona. The announcer introducing the band messed up the names. Morrison interrupted and corrected in his usual aggressive smart ass way. Lol I think it was during the song Fire some up front we're throwing sparklers at them. But the band didn't mind. Lol It was then at the Coliseum that Radio Kaos (cool name) recorded them. Around then Radio Kaos also recorded Cream there as well. If I remember right the concert tickets were $3. Minimum wage was like $1.30, gas .30 so.... They did get in trouble after the concert as they rode the Tramway across the fairgrounds cursing and spitting down at people. But there are many articles in papers and magazines referring to that concert as great. Don't have a favorite this would have been one, along with Riders on the Storm. Most everybody suggests the typical I would give Songs from the Wood or if you like Mozart, listen to their cover of Bouree. As for Iron Butterfly. Seen them one month earlier at the ASU Activity Center. Like the Doors it was a sellout. oversold would be more appropriate. As there was no room. The drummer was second time through on his solo for In-a-god- ta - da- vita when he passed out knocking his drum set everywhere.lol I'm pretty sure they were all tripping. The audience was. And you can hardly see the stage through the heavy pot smoke.lol Those were the days. And to think I was mostly country music and lived on a ranch. Lol Thanks "the memories of an old man are the Deeds of a man in his prime." ✌️🤠🏞️🐂
Jim was heavily into drink by this time and it was tough to get him into the studio to record. One trick they used was trying to get a hooker for fellatio in the recording booth, ......his girlfriend Pam stepped up and helped out.
You were talking about the baseline. Interesting fact about the doors is that they quite often didn’t use a bass guitar. A lot of the time the bass that you’re hearing was actually being played by the keyboard player. Great band couple of other suggestions I would make are a LA woman and love her madly, but they’ve got a Lotta great songs so Whatever you end up doing, there’s a good chance it’s going to be worthwhile. Most people think of Jim Morrison when they think of the doors but I’ve always love the way the drums and the keyboards work within the music it just seems more complex than it is in a lot of bands.
I have a suggestion for both of you. Director, Oliver Stone directed a bio of The Doors with Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison. Movie gives a snapshot of The Doors during the crazy days of mid 60's to early 70's when Jim sadly died in 1971 at 27 as he joined infamous Club 27.
The Doors did not have a bass player, the bass line was provided by Ray Manzarek, the keyboard player, with bass pedals for the most part. Really noticeable in their first hit, " Light My Fire." Later on in their career they did occasionally use a bass player while recording, I believe...
Great Reaction!! Have you heard the Door’s song “Touch Me” Guitarist Robbie Krieger wrote this one, and he originally called it “Hit Me” allegedly because his girlfriend had a propensity to punch him in the head. One You Tube video has them performing the song live on the Smother’s Brother’s TV show in 1969. If you look at Krieger during this performance you can see that he has a monster of a black eye, which likely occurred courtesy of the girlfriend. But it is a great song (made #2 on Billboard if memory serves me right). Cheers… Mark P from Canada.
The Doors envoke so many different moods and vibes in their music. Song to song are different and the studio versions are produced to a high quality, which I know Phil would find impressive.. Riders on the Storm and L.A. Woman are two of my favorites and either would be great to react to.
When it comes to the Doors since you’re not familiar with them starting with this one wasn’t a bad choice. It’s good to start with their lighter stuff and then get to the heavier ones. Like “Light my Fire, L.A. Woman, or Break On Through “. The keyboard is an electric organ. This was commonly used by groups from California in the 50’s up to the late 60’s. This then influenced groups in England also. Like the Animals and then Deep Purple. This was because they didn’t have synthesizer’s so the choices were unamped piano, electric piano, organ, electric organ. For rock bands it wasn’t fees-able for them lug a actual piano or organ around so this would limit their choice to electric piano or electric organ till the middle to late 70’s when the synthesizer finally came out.But certain bands that are known for the use of the electric piano organ still use them because it’s their sound such as Deep Purple.
The Doors in the 60s, and CCR into the 70s, were the biggest bands in the US. There were others that were close, like the Beach Boys, Eagles, Jefferson Airplane, Three Dog Night, etc. Many in the second tier. If you really want to expand your consciousness, try 'An American Prayer', by Jim Morrison. Poetry in music. Oh, and Door's songs 'Strange Days', 'Riders on the storm', and 'Crystal Ship'. And 'Waiting for the sun'.
Great version of this song by Elkie Brooks. You talked about the bass The Doors didn't have a bass player it was all done by Ray Manzarek on the pedlles of the keyboard.
One of the greatest lyrics in music history: "Well, I woke up this mornin' and I got myself a beer the future's uncertain and the end is always near"
One of Jim's girl friends wrote a book and she wrote "he actually got up and got himself a beer".
@hannejeppesen1809 It was alcoholism which killed him, no matter the conspiracies
@@toddhellyar4167 I agree
My favourites too!

@@sharkdog111 And I'll add Hyacinth House which I really think is an under rated gem by The Doors.
Think we're going to try LA Woman next!
@@barsandbarbells2022 that sounds great that's from their final album La Woman can't wait 🧐🤘✌️

Light My Fire and Riders On The Storm are by far their 2 biggest hits.
No roadhouse blues are there big hit then light my fire and riders on the storm
@coolbreeze5741 LA Woman was picked as favorite song from the Doors but this was in the late 70s.
Don’t forget “Touch Me.”

“Break on Through” and “The Crystal Ship” are two great ones to check out

When I was visiting my brother in San Francisco way back when, I could always tell when it was gonna be a partyin' kind of day 'cause somewhere around 5:30-6:00 A.M., he'd start BLASTING this tune. Kinda like reveille on steroids, LOL!!! Great tune, great reaction!
Good choice to start The Doors! Love the reaction.
I first heard them in late 68-69, my older brothers records. Probably the first rock music I ever heard....thanks guys
Light My Fire. It was the top rock song in the Rolling Stone poll for at least ten or fifteen years.
Never can go wrong with the Door's. Always 🔥
Their singles are good radio to draw your attention, but songs like,
WHEN THE MUSIC'S OVER
LIGHT MY FIRE, from the Ed Sullivan Show gave us a sneak peak into the power and energy the band would unleash on the country the next few years.
THE SOFT PARADE from the Soundstage Performances,
L.A. WOMAN,
RIDERS ON THE STORM leave the deepest impression.
It's slower and moodier but still great.
.....this was a live version. You can tell by the applause. I would suggest the studio version, although this one isn't too bad audio-wise.....
It's hard to tell sometimes when they list "official video". We prefer studio ourselves!
I'm a long time big fan of The Doors; saw them live in 1968.
If you want to hear a good sample of their music,"Light My Fire" is a must. Rider On the Storm", "People Are Strange", and "Touch Me" are good wat to show their wide range, which is rock, blues, and jazz.
been a while since i heard some "doors" or "the doors"? thanks a trillion!!!
I think they made a good choice by listening to this song and the video for it. It's a good song to start listening to The Doors.
I like how you used the video version that I love. ❤
Stupenda e non solo la canzone. Ciao dall'Italia.
Great band loving the music ❤❤ got to have The Jam " going underground " the legend paul weller cheers guy,s from uk ❤❤
"The future's uncertain, the end is always near" . Just about sums it up.
Touch me. Not to touch the earth , love her madly are a must
Light My Fire was their first hit song. I suggest the longer album version. Some instrumentals were removed from the long version for the short AM radio hit. Also, Doors concerts were crazy. I suggest the studio versions
“Light My Fire” by the Doors.
The singer, Jim Morrison, is a member of the 27 club.
Start with the first album and go from there. I can't think of any other band that can take you on the journey the Doors can. The music is Acid Rock Blues which includes Jimi Hendrix, 13th Floor Elevators, and other great psychedelic bands that all seemed to come together in 67.
Good tip, always do their album versions. Very best quality 👌😊
Checkout The Crystal Ship, End Of The Night...
Also try The War on Drugs - Thinking Of A Place...VERY excited seeing your reactions to this baby! 😊
"L.A. Woman" song and album are a late 60's icon.
There are no bad choices when it comes to The Doors
I have always liked a lot of Doors music. I own a great collection of rock bio's and dvd's because I wanted to learn about life, music, politics and what it was like to be in that scene. When you read these books you learn so much more than just the band and the music. If you like The Doors or just want to increase your knowledge of a different era (i'm 57) I would recommend getting a copy of "Jim Morrison Life Death Legend". Any book you find about a band/singer, producer, tour manager, record company exec is going to be entertaining. Esp the 65-90 era.
The kings of dynamics -- Great highs and lows
The Doors were one of two of the best concerts we went to a 68.
It was at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Arizona. The announcer introducing the band messed up the names. Morrison interrupted and corrected in his usual aggressive smart ass way. Lol
I think it was during the song Fire some up front we're throwing sparklers at them.
But the band didn't mind. Lol
It was then at the Coliseum that
Radio Kaos (cool name) recorded them.
Most everybody suggests the typical I would give
Songs from the Wood or if you like Mozart, listen to their cover of
Bouree.
As for Iron Butterfly.
Seen them one month earlier at the ASU Activity Center. Like the Doors it was a sellout. oversold would be more appropriate. As there was no room.
The drummer was second time through on his solo for In-a-god- ta - da- vita when he passed out knocking his drum set everywhere.lol
I'm pretty sure they were all tripping. The audience was. And you can hardly see the stage through the heavy pot smoke.lol
Those were the days.
And to think I was mostly country music and lived on a ranch. Lol
Thanks
"the memories of an old man are the Deeds of a man in his prime."
✌️🤠🏞️🐂
This is from 1970=71. About a year to 18 months later Jim's heart gave out in Paris.
Jim was heavily into drink by this time and it was tough to get him into the studio to record. One trick they used was trying to get a hooker for fellatio in the recording booth, ......his girlfriend Pam stepped up and helped out.
The Audio is from the DOORS Live. double album.
Yes more Doors. They have lots of great songs. Jim Morrison used to get arrested for some of his lyrics and was even banned from a state, Florida iirc
Great choice, cheers
I wish you would do the studio version first so your first impression would be like our first impression. Studio versions are almost always the best.
Probably the best to start with the Doors.
Jim Morrison past away in a hotel Paris France in 1971 he was 27 years old RIP
There's an excellent version by British group Status Quo on their Piledriver album from 1972
Great Reaction!!
Love the Doors; usually people would start with "the End" or something also of the Doors; but great starting song, check out L.A. Woman.
Riders on the Storm is an amazing Doors song
Great version of this song by Elkie Brooks. You talked about the bass The Doors didn't have a bass player it was all done by Ray Manzarek on the pedlles of the keyboard.
Other top songs by The Doors; The End, Riders of the Storm…..Light My Fire (their biggest hit I think). All very psychedelic sounding.
Break on Through is my favorite!
