You... have no effin clue how insanely helpful and encouraging this video is. I'm a big fan of the little tips/terminology lessons peppered throughout. 💖
@@decadent.potato I did it. I stripped the seams of a shirt that no longer fit during the day on Saturday. Around 11pm I started the process of planning/pinning. Around 5am I finished. One gusseted shirt, complete with a taper from the beginning of the side to the pit-seam, then again from there, down the sleeve to the cuff. The cuffs were removed, dissected and extended (by 1"). The extension both matches and aligns with the gusset. Yes, the cuff extension was completely unnecessary, but It makes for easier rolling up of the sleeves with the added fabric. Because of this post, I was able to wear a dress shirt to Father's Day dinner the following day instead of slumming it in a hoodie. I'll be posting the shirt photos on Twitter. Thanks again for this fantastic video. 😎
I just got into thrifting and I felt so bad that I couldn’t really find anything that really fit me but I just believed that I could figure out how to make it work. Thank you very much for this video!
Ladies! Thank you! I thought I was the only one who needed gussets for a comfy fit! I have had fun just adding agusset of the same color but in a pattern. I have even mixed two patterns of fabric in the same color. Confession - I've even done florasl gussel in a plaid shir - but exact colors - so cute!! Money saving and creative.
I really enjoyed watching you add fabric to your dress, I just added fabric to a shirt I really liked I thought fit me when I bought it at the thrift store but it was tight…. it was a little nerve-racking to do it but I did it and I really enjoyed it thanks for your channel
WHAT A CHARMING ,AND BRILLIANT YOUNG LADY. I WAS THINKING OF DOING THIS TO SOME BEAUTIFUL SKIRTS I HAD BOUGHT AFTER BEING ON MEDS ,THAT MADE ME GAIN 40 LBS., AND THEN LOSING 60 FROM ILLNESS, HAVING THEM TAKEN IN AT THAT WEIGHT, WHICH WAS TOO SMALL, AND TELLING SEEMSTRESS TO CUT OFF EXCESS. AFTER BECOMING HEALTHY WEIGHT,THEY ARE NOW TOO SMALL. YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT TEACHER. A SORT OF ENGINEER. I CAN DO THIS! THANK YOU!
Excellent video! Thank you so, so much! I will practice on an old/raggedy t-shirt first, since I am not very good at sewing - yet! :) My son has 3 custom made t-shirt from special gigs, the dryer machine shrank them. We cannot find those anywhere else to order/buy. And they are black t-shirts, so - it will be a piece of cake getting it to match! Be well and cool ♥
This is perfect. This is exactly what I have been looking for !!! The pandemic has caused me to have a baby bump and I am not happy !!!! I have taken apart 2 dresses at the side seams ..... now I need to find some fabric to match ... or not match !!!!! Thank you ......
Wonderful video.....Helpful. Looking at this to know how to make a costume bigger for a local theater group. I have sown a lot, but never had to make things larger.
Wow, beautifully done! And so well explained. Watching this after a 3 hour midnight sewing sesh was an interesting coincidence, too! :) Such a unique style and a cool, soothing voice. Just got yourself a new subbie =)
Can you do a gusset and also add a colour block if a t-shirt has also become too short as well as too tight? Even doing the gusset will definitely give me more wear out of some favourite tops!
You’re adorable & are an excellent teacher! 👍 I paused the video to sub your channel! 😊 I’ve got a broad back and shoulders, which means that I can NEVER find anything off-the-rack that fits me. 😢 Everything is either too tight in the back or too big everywhere, so now I can buy things that are a little too small for me, and insert gussets into them! Yay!
Thank you so much for your comment! It is so frustrating when the store bought sizes just don't fit. So Im glad this trick will help you! You could do the opposite too, buy a bigger shirt and take it in where it is too big.
@@decadent.potato True...I *could* buy bigger. I guess it’ll depend on which requires less work. I’m under 5’2”, so when I go larger, the sleeves are often too long, as well as the torso portion, so it’s almost like I’d be constructing a new garment. I’ve got/had multiple garments, though, where it looks cute and appears to fit perfectly, until I try to raise my arms or bring them forward-as in your vid, I felt like I was Hulking out...lol. I just need some extra room at the top...about 2” - 4” around my traps. I have a cute winter coat that I thrifted, and it’s perfect everywhere except the upper back. If I feel like I can gusset that area and do it well, I’d be SOOO THRILLED! It’d not only look good, but finally be comfy, as well. Here’s to a cute wardrobe FULL of thrifted finds that fit like a glove! 🧤
Definitely start by learning your machine. There are lots of online resources, search for tutorials using your specific machine. If your machine has other stitches learn about them and test them out. Practice sewing common seam allowances, 1/2" and 5/8". This is a relatively simple project, but searching simple starter projects and try sewing something! Sewing is all about patients. I still make lots of mistakes, but with perseverance you can fix them and make something amazing. Goodluck!
You could look for a similar flannel pattern or just find something in a similar colourway, blue or white. Or go crazy and do a contrasting flannel. And the rest should be the same steps. Goodluck!
Constructive criticsm: While I really appreciate your presentation & your skill set, I struggle with your volume levels (too low), even when using ear buds for more volume. I just want to suggest exploring higher volume levels. Everything else is great!
My mom always a triangle shaped gusset. But yours is a good idea

I followed this tutorial and it helped me make a shirt bigger. And the best part is it looks so professional.
Thank you so much.

I think a solid is kind of severe. Try a tiny print : floral, plaid, stripe - the more creative - the more designer

Just what I was hoping to find for a discontinued shirt - I could only find it available two sizes smaller!
2 sizes smaller? No problem! Glad this helped ♡
I wish I could sew that well.

Well there you go. In Australia it's spelt selvedge.
I have a similar jacket , is there a way to do just the sleeves ?
Thank you 🌹

Can you Help me with my blouse and my blouse fit to close and I need to open the van can you secure video on how to extend your brow sleeve
Why aren’t you using the IDT on your Pfaff?
You are freaking adorable! Also thank you for the knowledge miss hulk.
How do you do this with a blue and white flannel?
You could look for a similar flannel pattern or just find something in a similar colourway, blue or white. Or go crazy and do a contrasting flannel. And the rest should be the same steps. Goodluck!
I really want to try sewing by upsizing clothing items
Cool!
I need to do for a coat. Sleeves too tight, and I am getting buff.
It will be a little tougher with the lining, but you can do it!
👏

While I really appreciate your presentation & your skill set, I struggle with your volume levels (too low), even when using ear buds for more volume. I just want to suggest exploring higher volume levels. Everything else is great!
Thank you very much! I will increase the volume
Could I do this to a coat?
Yes, it should work just fine with a coat. You would just have to do a lining as well, if the coat is lined.
Please lose the background music. Content nice.
Jesus christ clear your voice madame.
That was a pretty ugly fabric. It would have been better with the black trim or something cool with graphics.
