    The mini switches are series/single and the single coils are the ones nearest the bridge. I know this because I bought one and tapped the pole pieces with a screwdriver before/after flipping the switch. Has to be series for both coils due to the volume jump and boost to lows and mids at the expense of highs.

      Having owned a Roscoe V for a time, one pretty sure I'd be underwhelmed by one of these. The R and D that went into the original was extensive, and you could tell. My biggest ever regrets letting that one go.

      Yep… looks just like it. But the neck on the Roscoe Beck 5-er I had was an absolute nightmare- way too thick to be comfortable. Let’s hope these don’t replicate that feature if they make a 5 string!

    Gibson's semi-hollowbodies like the ES-335 and ES-339 have tops and backs constructed of layers (either 3 or 4) of maple veneer. My understanding is that the veneers are assembled in successive cross-grain layers with the top layer having its grain longitudinal to the length of the guitar. The tops and backs are approximately 1/4" in thickness after layup.

  • @Bogmore1

    I got one today, it was delivered on a Sunday! It looks gorgeous and you can't really see the sparkle in the paint on the video, wasn't quite set up properly but it was decent, the neck profile needed a tweak as did the action, but then again I have never had a new bass or guitar set up to the best it can be. The switches just silence the neck side coil, one for each pickup. The old screwdriver tap solved that. No sharp fret edges and the only thing I would change is the Pot covers. I couldn't find the scale length mentioned anywhere but it's 34".

    Sounds like they might be coil split switches by the boost? The bass it’s bass-ed on those switches were three way with series/split/parallel for each pickup…. But if it’s only a 2 way it sounds like it might just be a coil split?
    But yeah, looks great, sounds great, has heaps of configuration and it’s cheap.. what’s not to love.
    Meanwhile fender are still using pay ferro and jacking up prices …

    This is a clear copy of Fender's Roscoe Beck signature model, not the Stu Hamm one. On the RB bass the switches are 3-way and swap between parallel humbucking - single coil (only neck side) - series humbucking, so I'm assuming that they probably do something similar here (not sure whether Soloking removed the series or the single coil option, hard to tell from just this video). Considering how much you have to pay nowadays to get Fender's RB bass this looks like a really nice option!

    "Rose wood" can mean many things- true rose wood, the rose wood we all know and love- is Brazilian and is now unbelievably difficult to put your hands on. It was called rose wood not because of the color but because it actually had a very pleasing sweet fragrance to it- that lasted for years. East Indian rose wood is considered second best- and is also getting very expensive and difficult to get. But- now they call several different hardwoods that have a rich, brown hue- rose wood. So, I highly doubt this instrument has real rose wood on it- not for 250 bucks. It's going to have some other hardwood that has that rose wood hue to it- but isn't really rose wood. If I'm not mistaken the Japanese bought all the Brazilian rose wood from Brazil- not just what they had on hand at that time- I mean all of it. Brazil is not allowed to sell it to anyone but them. And you can bet they're not putting it on a 250-dollar bass guitar. Madagascar rose wood is becoming extremely popular- has a reddish hue to it. They're currently trying to slow down the harvest of it but- it's not working. Ppl are poaching it and apparently the trade is lucrative enough for ppl to and companies to risk imprisonment and/or serious sanction.

      if it's based on the old RB signature, it's series/split/parallel for both pickups. really wish they had the 5 string version as well.

    • @ChaelaThompson
      @ChaelaThompson 10 місяців тому +1

      Oh plenty of basses do, but it's not the ideal position for most bass tones, middle to neck is traditionally more desired for more low end. The bridge pickup is in the same position as a thunderbird and jazz bass bridge placement.

    • @LilSirAxolotl
      @LilSirAxolotl 10 місяців тому

      @@ChaelaThompson interesting 🍯 forgive my ignorance but are basses traditionally more focussed on getting a bright tone to cut through in the mix with drums and a guitar?
      I still wonder why this has a bridge and 'middle pickup' and no neck, if that's where the 'spot' is

    • @TheStratpicker
      @TheStratpicker 10 місяців тому +1

      Sounds like your new to the bass, so I hope this doesn’t sound patronising. Most common basses don’t have a pickup close the neck like on a six string. On a Precision style bass, with just one central pickup, albeit split, if you want a warm full sound, simply finger the strings nearer the neck, and for a more mid-range sound finger the strings nearer the bridge. The tonal range you can get this way is surprising. When used alone, the tone from a pickup close to the bridge is very specific, a kind of nasal sound best suited to certain types of jazz. On my P/J bass, I sometimes blend in a bit of the bridge pickup when I need a less warm sound. Hope that helps.
      @@LilSirAxolotl

    • @TheStratpicker
      @TheStratpicker 10 місяців тому

      Sorry, having reread your question, the bridge pickup on a six string often has a higher output and has a more trebly sound better suited to soloing. That’s not to say you can’t solo on a neck pickup, but that would have a warmer sound. A Fender Jazz style bass, or P/J (a mix between a Precision and a Jazz) will have a bridge pickup.
