People live in flood zone, earthquake zones, hurricane zones, tornado zones, landslide zones, wildfire zones...the main thing is to be prepared for eventual disaster when it strikes. It is not a matter of IF but WHEN
I have evacuated from Yellowstone, and Los Alamos NM twice, so three times I’ve run from fire. This looks like it is only the first of the fire concern. The dead trees are now kiln dry and standing. This can burn again. Los Alamos burned twice. The leftover wood is ready to burn. Erosion will cause flooding and mudslides. This is a long game problem.

This is monsoon season where are they ?
The monsoon is exactly what is stopping CA from seeing the rains this time of year as it is a system that pushes in on the Arizona side of the mountains keeping the moisture that would fall on CA out over the ocean. Once the system that gives the monsoon is done the moisture shifts back over CA and they get the fall rains that shift into winter snow that ends the fire season.
Not in California! Our rainy season doesn't even start until late November/Dec. most years and the state has been in a 10 year drought as well. There is rarely, if ever, any significant rain during our summer seasons.
@@laurie1536 Is it really a drought when the area is on a 100 year cycle that moves from wet to dry then back to wet? Need 1,000 years of data to see what the climate is doing and records only go back to the 1860's when the standardized method of weather data collecting was setup and the majority of the old growth trees are gone so just mud and ice cores now that have no built in protection from adding/removing layers by outside process.

There used to be a monsoon season but now all we get is lightning and no rain. I remember torrential rains back in the 90s.

The seasonal monsoon that hits the arizona side of the mountains is keeping the CA rains out over the ocean just like they do every year even if it is a dry monsoon season. Once the system is done the moisture shifts to over land and you get the fire season ending rains that start the mudslide season.
