- Welcome aboard SeaSHINE! She is a 1987 56' Ocean Alexander Motor Yacht that we plan to take on the Great Loop. We filmed this the day we picked her up. It was a crazy day but we wanted to show her to you exactly as we found her before we started any boomerizing (aka renovating) her interior. Hopefully, her interior -- along with our video-making skills -- will improve over time. Thank you for joining us on this adventure!!!

She was definitely scary big at first but we got used to operating her and loved all the space.
This is a very, very nice boat‼️‼️ As we look to do similar, bathroom (head) size it's not so critical as, to us, we spend the least amount of time in that room on land. Rather have larger staterooms and living quarters. 🤔🤗🙂

Wow..Love the boat guys...it's really beautiful.. and youre right.. it is a Unicorn.. has everything you could ask for a family boat...you will have a great time on the loop..can't wait till you make it "yours" but I'm looking for when you guys decide to take it to the Bahamas..that will be nice trip...I will keep watching and waiting for that....

Few years ago we had a 1991 OA 66' for about 8 years living on it permanently, what a wonderful boat, very nice build and nice at sea.

This is by far the nicest yacht under 60 feet that I've seen. The engine room is incredible. I'm jealous. That boat looks so well cared for. 18 foot beam is so spacious. Best of luck with it. Living on a boat is so relaxing. Sure there is work when living on a boat. but a house has just as much repair work. Keep good records and label date all upgrades and maintenance. Have a maintenance schedule and budget. Surprise repairs are always painful.

Congratulations on your purchase and your docking job! From the looks of the aft flag it looks like you had a beam wind without much to block it. Good thing you have the thrusters. I’ll bet they’re hydraulic as well. Enjoy the Loop, we start ours this Fall.
You are correct! It was a strong beam wind but Mark handled it like a pro. I didn't handle it as well LOL. The thrusters are fantastic and so helpful. Excited for you to loop also!

We have been following your channel for some time now and are excited to see your new boat. We just started watching the recent video and noticed where the boat came from originally. We are from the Seattle area and have cruise to Friday Harbor many times. We were just curious of the cruising history prior to you purchasing it since it’s now in Florida. We love the layout and the size, thanks for sharing.
Hi Jeffery! Thanks for following along. According to our research and the Coast Guard abstract Friday Harbour was most likely for LLC Purposes of a previous owner and the boat was not likely West coast… at least not going back to 2008. ⚓️Mark

I'd replace that stove top with an induction stove top so you have less power consumption issues. Absolutely AWESOME engine room. A consideration for your antennas, adding a mast mounted to the fly bridge deck that you can raise and lower (either fold over or hydraulically raised this way you are NOT unbolting and disconnecting wires which love to corrode and cause huge electrical issues. You guys have a very nice boat. A washer and dryer will go a long way to making boat live easier.
Thank you and great suggestion! We are looking into hinged mounts. With a 7 year old boy onboard, a washer and dryer was a necessity for me. I know my limits. LOL

It really is! She has been extremely well loved and taken care of. We plan to continue that tradition.

You must travel up into Lake Erie and stop by and see Niagara Falls (via a land tour), but will be able to visit our beautiful Niagara on the Lake and tie up at the marina there. Not a bad choice after all. In fact, quite nice I would say! Good space and in good shape.
Now don't get caught in the trap of trying to make it "just perfect"! That will remove the joy of the voyage. Settle with the understanding that noting is perfect in this life and that real joy comes from the road we take and the friendships we make.
Not from the "mine is better than yours" approach. The things we have gives less joy and peace than the voyage we travel and the people we meat while using the Things! Find joy in friendship and reaching out!!! Let your children experience that, rather than the things! A very important lesson for life, is now to be learned....

Love it! Any resources for redecorating? We also are buying a boat from the 1980's to do The Loop and we need some ideas and inspiration on how to brighten the old up.

Don't rush it. Live on it for awhile and what originally seemed like a good idea, may become apparent that it won't work for you. Before you demo, live with it's functionality. You may decide to upgrade rather than reconstruct. Also, it is going to cost more than you thought and planned.
Great boat! Huge living spaces, and the engine room looks really well laid out and equipped. Will you be keeping the black rug with flowers that is everywhere? Amazing master suite with king-size bunk. Super comfortable fly bridge compensates for smallish aft deck. Did you buy the boat in Florida?

It took about a year to arrange insurance. Yes. Definitely difficult no matter what year boat. The older boats just go with a Lloyd carrier.

I am not sure if it is Stratoglass or something else. It is not flexible at all. Whatever it is, it is brand new and just installed so it is great for us!

Thank you! Technically it is a 56 foot Long Range Cruiser model hull number 6 of 12. There is not much information out there on this model. Ours is the only one we have seen of this model.
Did you have trouble finding marinas with so large a boat on the loop?
Nope. We did have to plan a bit further in advance than our friends in smaller boats did but otherwise is wasn’t an issue.
What is the air draft on that thing? Looks tallish for Chcago bridge.
19’2” going to close but should be good with 19’6” being the goal. We have friends that cleared with 20’.🤞🏻

We agree LOL. It was a crazy day and we are just proud of ourselves for getting a video done while trying to do everything else. We are new at videos like this, so it will take us a bit to get them figured out and dialed in. Even then, we are not video professionals nor do we have a team of professionals helping us. It is just us -- two frazzled working parents trying to share this adventure and a little joy with others.
