    Love your first video. We are the new owners of a Jefferson 53. I will be 81 years old at the end of this month. We are moored at Roche Harbor Washington and have made a video called relaxing in Roche Harbor. The video will show you that everyone needs a larger boat ! I may have missed the type of boat you have bought. My wife and I have a lot to learn and that’s why we bought this boat at our age. Someone told me that a schedule is the most dangerous thing about boating. Be careful on your three day weekend trips. Good sailing and I look forward to your next video..Pat

    Don't worry about your children. The best years of my life was when we all lived on my father's boat. It was not year round it was from May until September of every year since I was born. Those were absolutely the best years of my life and trust me your children will be thanking you as they get older they will complain as all children do But when they look back on their life they will be thanking you

    Oh we weren't sure about you guys but you got us with that bit towards the end - reassuring yourselves about how little time you had with your children, how the weeks at home just disappear - all of that makes the inevitable stress and financial worry (which seem to never go away with children however successful we are!). My wife and I remind ourselves we want to live an adventure story - and even the most tame children's adventure stories have at least MILD PERIL :-).

    As young and as good-looking as your family is, you will find that starting and keeping a list of chores and prioritizing learning operational systems and or functions will serve you well. Your boat is a huge blessing and gift but every blessing has a shadow (learning curve). I love following your progress. As your confidence increases, so will your ability to sleep through it all.

    We lived on our boat all sumer with the kids. I had the luxury of being able to take summers off and we traveled. It was the greatest family memories. My oldest daughter is now 43 and misses the boat more than anything and she wants to see her three kids have the memories we created, secret is my wife and I are sick or the motorhome and it's lifestyle and were buying another bigger boat this summer.

      Wahoooo! That is super exciting news. I've always been curious to compare boating lifestyle to RV lifestyle. Guessing its hard to go to RV after boat. But probably much less stressful being in an RV than on the water.

    ✋✋ Question.... The most important cargo ::: Where are the Sea Cat's???
    You guy's have me excited for you and when I find mine .... Woohoo 🎉🎉 Mrs. cracks me up she is going 90 mph but needs to remember something very special from horse racing " Pace makes the Race" take a minute sit down,look around breathing deep, then go just sit out on the Bow.... Look around, smell the air, listen.... You don't hear the mad rush of city life... Mark on the other hand is cool as a cucumber.... ......
    The kids are awesome, I hope as time goes along you will interview them, kids don't sugar coat things....
    Safe travels and 🙏,

    Funny, my wife had the same obscession with taking on water. We took on a bit of water on day 3 or 4 and EVERYTIME we came aboard she would go straight to the galley because there was a a small hatch for storage and it was the bottom of the bilge, so the first thing she would do is check her hole to see if it was wet and she did that for 17 years, never missed once.

    I love your honesty which is rare on boating Vlogs. As for the panic, it’s natural. As an old salt, the only thing that I can tell you is to practice your close quarters handling in different conditions (but nothing crazy). Knowing how your boat handles takes practice and you must put in the requisite number of reps. Something tells me that you guys are going to have an amazing time. I will be watching with both joy and envy.

    Big learning curve, seems overwhelming, but you will feel confident and comfortable and relaxed much faster than you believe now! The first 10 dockings are extremely tense, the next 10 are tense, the next 200 are (mostly) pieces of cake. Please know you will be traveling in waters where Sea Tow help is within minutes, where help is always reachable by VHF channel 16, and the waters are mostly quite benign.
    Also, you are on a well-made, hefty, very safe yacht. Enjoy!

    What a hoot. We bought our last intending to take it to Alaska immediately. One year later, she's ready! Your boat looks mostly squared away already though. One favorite lesson to share, "every sound is sacred." It's really worth knowing the noise made by every pump, buzzer and clank, & always know why. One time I was filling the fresh water, and getting ready to leave it and go to breakfast. I heard the some pump running. Why? Who cares? WRONG. The freshwater tank outlet hose had popped off, and we were filling the pacific ocean with freshwater from the dock hose, through our bilge pump. Glad I noticed because I don't think the pumps would've won.

    Just saw your channel, good luck with the boat looks like a nice boat and I prefer the old timers, maybe because i'm one! I did the loop 20 years ago, but requirements were different, was a boys trip, 3 friends, we bought a 46 ocean sunliner just to do the loop, did it in 5 months, one summer. I'm sure lots has changed in the last 20 years, from my experience plan the shortest time on the Mississippi, it's got high banks for flooding and it's like riding in a ditch you can't see over the sides, marinas we're far and few between and mostly old barges cabled to the bank, with the exception of St. louis has a beautiful marina. If memory is good, got off on ohio river to cumberland to tennessee tom bigbe, that's much nicer then taking the mississippi all the way. Safe travels it's a great trip, may possibly see you on the water ways. now a days on a 58 viking mostly between florida and new york.

      @TheBoomershines  2 роки тому

      Love that you did the loop 20 years ago! What an amazing trip with your buddies I bet you had. We plan to get off the Mississippi as soon as we can. Perhaps we will see you. What is the name of your boat?

    • @franklake8931
      @franklake8931 2 роки тому

      @@TheBoomershines concrete evidence, I had all the charts from the trip, threw it all away last year, would have loved to give it away, I went before digital charts, old school paper and compass. gps was a new thing and cartography was in beginning stages, I would have loved to extend the trip, we did it fast, wives and family home, 5 months is a long time away from home and business. did take a break and left the boat in Alpina Michigan. Thought we were doing a good thing by leaving it under cover floating inside rather then out in sun. Lesson learned there are a lot of spiders inside under a cover in the summer in Michigan. Were still killing them in St. louis and spider crap stains gel coat black with spots. Your in for an adventure. In my entire boating experiences, the great loop, it used to be called the great circle, has been the high light of all trips.

      Cheers mate! Great to have you aboard. We know how in in theory we will deploy our tender, but we have not done it yet. Basically hook it up to the crane on the flybridge called a davit and lower it carefully over the starboard side of the boat and try not to damage it or the boat or freak out that the boat is leaning. It has to be don e in a space where there is enough room to the side of the boat of course. We will definitely film the whole process. Thanks for watching!

We bought our boat last summer in St. Petersburg, FL, and I was at the local West Marine store so many times {sometimes three times in one day}, I was on a first name basis with everyone at the store, and they even offered me a job there. A little water around the rudder stocks and shaft seals is normal. As long as it's not coming in too fast. That's what the bilge pumps are for. Do you have "high water bilge alarms"? If not, they can be installed easily enough.

      Thanks Dennis! You will be in the same “boat” before you know it! Enjoy the anticipation as it is half the fun! Our marine insurance agent was Russell Jamieson with Risk Strategies Company. Good luck!

    Just subscribed. I'm looking forward to your adventure. Hope it's an exciting and harmonious time for you all.
    Would be handy if you stop whispering though, as we can't hear what you're saying when you do!

    Love your videos! So real. One question about your process of buying. Did you have issues with insurance and if so why?

    • @TheBoomershines
      @TheBoomershines  2 роки тому

      We have all the info you want on previous episodes where we discuss at length the insurance issues along the way. To answer your question… insurance is a tough part of the process. You must have prior experience to go up to a boat length more than about 25 feet.

    Yall have the right attitude. Just stick with it. 6 months from now I bet if you watch these first few videos I bet you say that was nothing. Remember running the boat slow is pro.

    I can only imagine what you guys are going through. The only thing _I_ can directly compare it to is buying an actual house (NOT a condo or something similar) for the first time.
    .
    As far as attire on the boat, as long as you don't shock the kiddos then a crop top and short-shorts are perfectly fine!

    Check put Victoria from Nautistyles, she has the best functionl women's wardrobe. You can see what she wears. She is on boats all the time doing shoots and she lives full time on her boat.

    stop the stress Packing glands are so posed to leek when running sitting still no, how long have they been there age is a thing ! repack do rudders to .end dock not good, more sleepiness nights as for the MAC that has took care of the boat for 10 plus years well have expectations on that, second opinion is always good.Learn the boat it will teach you and u tube is a good thing to find out about stuff. be aware though not all is told you are no longer in a house 20 min showers do not exsest wet down soap up rinse,your journey is about to begin but not started yet . take her out learn her see what she can do and do it, you need back up fine, but do it your self. Learn the throttles bow thrusts see how she handles .First date at the drive in movies will you take her home and kiss at the door or shake hands.

    I’d like to discuss what seems to be a theme of your boat ownership experience: panic, anxiety, stress… As a yacht owner and a mental healthcare professional…. Just kidding! I’d be freaking out too! See you out there and I’ll try not to back into you!

      I am confused LOL Do you mean "cruisers" not "cruises"? And if so, are not all cruisers also boaters? What is the difference? Thanks for the intel :)

    Change of wardrobe did you say? I think I see captain hats , smoking pipes, lots of stripes, with bright orange life vests.... On second thought don't listen to my wardrobe advice.
