    May I ask whether there is a possibility in Zbrush of applying a lifehack I use when sculpting faces in Daz3D? What I do there is I create several plane primitives and apply the reference photos onto them as plain textures, positioning them around the face I am working on for easier comparison as I move around in XYZ space. Would it be possible to insert such references directly into the Zbrush viewport?

    • @Gatz3D
      @Gatz3D  Рік тому +1

      Hello! Yes, you can absolutely import reference photos. There are a few ways to do it.
      If you want to import reference to the XYZ axes, go to the Draw menu, go down to Snap, select Snapshot To Grid. Now go back to the menu below that in the Draw menu again and open the menus for Front-Back, Up-down, Left-Right, and replace the snapshots with whatever reference photos you want and they are locked to the grid. To replace the current shapshots, click the image within any of those menus two times, then go to Import at the bottom of the box menu it gives you. You can turn any image off by clicking it twice and selecting Texture Off in the top left of the box it gives you. You should be able to select any of the images and move, scale, rotate them with the controls in each menu-set. With this method the photos are locked to your Floor view which can be toggled on or off on the menu along the right side of the viewport using the Floor button.
      The next method is using the Spotlight.
      Go to the Texture menu, select Import, choose a reference photo. Now click the texture menu again, click the mini thumbnail of the image you just imported, and right below that is a set of square shaped buttons. Choose the right-most one that says “Add to Spotlight “. Your image should appear on screen with a wheel shaped menu and a bunch of options. Use the menu to Scale, rotate, crop, etc. Press Z to make the wheel menu appear or disappear. Press Shift + Z to turn the spotlight on or off altogether. You can click the image and move it around/place it anywhere on your screen. One last step if you want to sculpt while Spotlight is turned on. Go to the Brush menu, go down to Samples, and turn Spotlight Projection OFF. If you leave it on, it will transfer any color data in your picture onto your model when using the Paint brush, and wont allow you to sculpt.
      Hope this helps! And good luck! :D
      Thanks for watching!

    im so confused at around 2:50 you appear just to apend it right off the nose. did you cut and apend and fix it where the nose is and edit it or is there a way to actually take a prexiting geometry and copy/apend from there

    • @Gatz3D
      @Gatz3D  2 роки тому

      Hey!
      Good question. It looks like I hit Ctrl+Shift+D to duplicate my current subtool, then used the gizmo to scale it down and move it into place rather than appending in a new sphere.
      This can be faster sometimes if your current subtool is a similar shape to the next piece you are trying to create. 👍👍
      Hope this helps!

      @@Gatz3D Question if you don't mind, since I briefly have your attention: Do you ever bring in low poly models from Maya / Blender / 3ds Max into ZBrush or do you prefer to do all hard surface modeling in ZBrush via Topology / ZModeler, etc.?

    • @Gatz3D
      @Gatz3D  3 роки тому +1

      @@zgmg9263 Great question! And honestly, it all depends on the project you are doing. For complex poly modeling I prefer something like Maya/3DS or Blender. Zbrush is unique in that you can create a high poly sculpt of your model and export it to another program for retopology/low poly later. In the end it doesn’t really matter which program you start with as long as you can safely transfer things like UV’s or keep the integrity of your object/topology between programs.
      That being said, I like Zmodeler because it allows for many quick revisions without having to leave Zbrush.
