I am an Air Force Veteran born on June 28th, the day that Operation Red Wings took place . Peter Gabriel's version of Heroes at the end Lone Survivor moved me ! But when my neighbor across the street who just became an American citizen viewed the movie and heard the song , he literally came over crying and thanking me for my service . To all of those veterans that gave the ultimate sacrifice and to all of those still serving , I say thanks to you as well .
I liked this song in Stranger Things, but the first time I heard it was the ending of Lone Survivor. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a war movie based on a true story. The song plays as it shows real pictures of the people who died. Every time I hear this song it gets me chocked up :( Such a good song
I think this song in lone survivor holds alot more weight then stranger things and i love that show. I just feel this song is more appropriate for them. These men died during operation red wings and the story is just amazing. Look up marcus latrell motivational speech and u will be blown away.
THis song holds far stronger in Lone Survivor. As they play a slide show of the fallen soldiers and their families, their spouses, their pets, doing what they love as they were younger and even grown up. The heartache this song brings even to this day. God bless all those who have served
I'm here because of that ending a family friend Kieron Hill died while on patrol near Garmsir in Helmand province in May 2009.He was a Lance Corporal with 2nd Battalion the Mercian Regiment
I remember seeing a free advanced screening of Lone Survior in the small theater that was on the military base we were stationed at. I was surrounded by service members, and the entire movie had a very profound effect on all of us. And then the movie ended, and this song began playing, accompanied by the pictures and names of all the fallen service members from the movie. Suddenly, every service member around me, all around the theater, stood up and saluted their fallen brothers. It was one of the most emotional and beautiful things I have ever experienced. Peter Gabriel, thank you for this wonderful tribute to the heroes of our nation. If you're reading this, and you serve, have served, or will serve in the military, thank you for what you do, from the bottom of my heart.
Inspired by the sight of Bowie's producer-engineer Tony Visconti embracing his lover by the Berlin Wall, the song tells the story of two lovers, one from East and one from West Berlin. There's something I've been wanting to talk to you both about. I know this is a difficult conversation, but I care about you both very much and I know that you care about each other very much. And that's why it's important that we set these boundaries moving forwards. We can build an environment where we all feel comfortable, trusted, and open to sharing our feelings. _Feelings...Jesus..._ The truth is, for so long, I've forgotten what those even were. I've been stuck in one place, in a cave, you might say. A deep dark cave. And then, I left some Eggos out in the woods and you came into my life and for the first time in a long time I started to feel things again. I started to feel happy. But lately, I guess I've been feeling...distant from you. Like you're...you're pulling away from me or something. I miss playin' board games every night, making triple-decker eggo extravaganzas at sunrise, watching westerns together before we doze off. But I know you're getting older. Growing. Changing. And I guess, if I'm being really honest, that's what scares me. I don't want things to change. So I think maybe that's why I came in here. To try to maybe...stop that change. To turn back the clock. To make things go back to how they were. But I know that's naive. It's just...not how life works. It's moving. Always moving, weither you like it or not. And yeah...sometimes it's painful. Sometimes it's sad. And sometimes...it's surprising. Happy. So you know what? Keep on growing up, kid. Don't let me stop you. Make mistakes, learn from 'em, and when life hurts you, be as it will. Remember the hurt. The hurt is good. It means you're out of that cave. But please...if you don't mind, for the sake of your poor old dad, *keep the door open three inches.*
Whenever I heard this song, I always thought about when they found “Will” in the water. Now all I can think about is Hopper’s note. This song really adds a very powerful, emotional touch to those scenes. They wouldn’t have the same effect without it. Edit: I saw someone point out that this is the song that played when they found Will’s fake body in the quarry. We thought he was dead, but he wasn’t. Maybe they added this song to foreshadow that Hopper is also alive.

Lone Survivors is one of the best films. Tribute to the fallen soldiers in Afghanistan. True Heroes, this song keeps their memory going 🙏 I’d give anything to trade their place, this song chokes me every time.
This song should be at least twice as long, it is nowhere near long enough for me. Peter's vocals create such an incredibly moving atmosphere and sadness in this cover. The climax of the song is executed so perfectly.
I saw David at the Greyhound Croydon 25th June 1972. The following Sunday, Genesis appeared, fronted by Peter. Greatest venue in the country back then. ❤
Agreed.... And by the way, I don't think Hopper is dead. If you watched to the very end, I think he got transported through the upside down to Russia and is now in a prison cell.
I'm a little overprotective of David Bowie songs. I often react with outrage and offence when someone/some people cover a Bowie song and make a mess of it. But this... This is beautiful, and touching, and powerful, and emotive, and amazing. Thank you.
This song plays an emotional cord for me in general not cause it was played on a TV or movie but seriously listen to the words...so beautifully spoken.
I don't think any other song on this planet can touch my heart as much as this song can. I absolutely love Peter's version. Also I cried so much at the end of stranger things s3.

Dear Mr. Metcalfe. I don't know if you will ever see this, but your work on this song is extraordinary . Along with the work of artists such as Samuel Barber and Max Richter, this is some of the most inspired string arranging I have ever heard. The transition at 2:40 is genuinely breathtaking. Many thanks...
Former Genesis lead singer Peter Gabriel offered a short, simple tribute to the late David Bowie on his Facebook page on Monday, sharing his cover of Bowie’s classic single “Heroes.” “Heroes, for me, was always one of the great Bowie tracks,” Gabriel wrote. “It is heroism in the face of oppression and desperation; it’s something triumphant despite the desperate situation.” Gabriel’s version of the song, originally recorded in November 2014 eschews the original’s guitar-driven melody for an orchestral approach, and has become part of his live performances, including his appearance at a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall that same month.
+Franklin Elias This song has always hit my heart and bring some melancholy to my mind. Then I watched Peter Gabriel perform this and cried. I love Bowie and love this song even more now that he's gone. But if there is anyone to redo this, its this awesome artist. Be well my friend. :)
This song makes my think of friends I’ve made along the way, friends I’ve lost… People I wish have never passed away. Friends that make me remember good times. That I wish I would have again. All them hurt and feel good at times. Memories are both painful and beautiful

_Feelings...Jesus..._
The truth is, for so long, I've forgotten what those even were.

I dare add a 3rd just as chilling and powerful. The Pines by Lead Belly covered by Nirvana and renamed Where Did You Sleep Last night.
@@nicocrestmere9688 Although The Pines/Where Did you Sleep Tonight is a traditional folk ballad, so the true authorship of that song is muddled and unknown even before Lead Belly... same with House of the Rising Sun. Another fantastic one was Jimi Hendrix covering Bob Dylan's All Along The Watchtower.
Another is changes by Charles Bradley

That's because it is Peter Gabriel. Only other person that has the same vocal range to pull this off in my opinion would be Midge Ure!

Former Genesis lead singer Peter Gabriel offered a short, simple tribute to the late David Bowie on his Facebook page on Monday, sharing his cover of Bowie’s classic single “Heroes.”
“Heroes, for me, was always one of the great Bowie tracks,” Gabriel wrote. “It is heroism in the face of oppression and desperation; it’s something triumphant despite the desperate situation.”
Gabriel’s version of the song, originally recorded in November 2014 eschews the original’s guitar-driven melody for an orchestral approach, and has become part of his live performances, including his appearance at a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall that same month.
+Franklin Elias This song has always hit my heart and bring some melancholy to my mind. Then I watched Peter Gabriel perform this and cried. I love Bowie and love this song even more now that he's gone. But if there is anyone to redo this, its this awesome artist. Be well my friend. :)
