This was quite the unexpected upload. Great video as usual exposing the start of the new of guard/perimeter superstar treatment. Never quite to this extend of course.
Drink Me Look I think Jordan’s the goat but I didn’t for a long time. I do think he still benefitted from a quick whistle in the 97-98 season. You couldn’t even touch him if you were a younger more athletic player without the refs calling a foul.
that would be the last year of jordan, in the thinking of many. The new rules were not designed to Jordan, were designed for the post jordan years. It was going towards the end of an era, and the NBA needed new stars, with the average score of the matches that was collapsing, the movement was in danger. Without the new rules, none come close to 30 today. Only a new michael jordan
No, that rule that eliminates impeding the progress of a player face up to the basket directly helped jordan...that was always a staple in jordans arsenal, to face up in the post and take his man off the dribble...they could no loger use their arm to help stay with him. And all the rules post jordan was to punish isolation players and give a fighting chance to teams defending shaq....they wanted the ball to move and the game to be more fluid, not for players to go 1 on 1 isolation
@breadandcircuses8127 look up jerry colangelo...he explains it all very well, and he was in charge of the Phoenix suns at the same time he was on the nba rules committee Thats how they got a headstart and knew how to build up a roster to best handle the new rules...the 7 second or less pace and space was born

@jaranarm You once made a comment about the players posting great numbers AGAINST Jordan in 1989 when he was their direct defender. Do you have it in your repertoire? Thank you.
7 років тому+4
May be this is true but Jordan is still the best player ever. And they changed the rules very well so jordan could drop 40 pts ate age 40. funny
The point is the officiating was clearly biased towards Jordan getting foul shots on phantom calls in the final game so that the scoring title would be out of Shaq's reach.
Judging by these comments I'm suddenly under the impression that 99% of Jordanites either weren't around when he played, have a poor memory, and/or are incapable of critical thinking.
Whoa interesting and truthful video Jaranarm. Now about that Wilt one....lol. With his athleticism declined and not getting to the basket at will like his earlier years, somehow he set a personal career high in FTA's out of the blue in his Final season..... .....yeah we all can clearly see why lol.
@@jaranarm pfft, I'm the furthest person you'll ever find from being a "Jordanite". I dont consider him the GOAT like his worshippers do. Hes only the greatest SG ever. But there are a couple of the top 5 Centers ever I would take over him on my team without hesitation. For once i was giving you a compliment and fully agree with the sentiment of this video.
Heheh. Nice video. The scoring race with Shaq is exactly what I had in mind when I said Jordan probably wouldn't have won those last scoring titles without the games being rigged for him. The funny thing I remember in that Nets series was that in Game 3, either Gill or Kittles tried to intentionally draw a foul on Michael Jordan and the announcer Hubie Brown just laughed and was like c'mon, they're not giving you a foul on Michael Jordan. Cheating for Jordan was just a way of life.
Pretty sure the league knew the Bulls would have difficulties in the first round, especially with Jayson Williams on Rodman. In the regular season Jordan shot only .418 overall against New Jersey, yet the Bulls still won every game (with the Nets missing key players and/or having foul trouble). Makes you wonder if the Nets were allowed to play their game they may have pulled off the biggest upset in playoff history. But this wouldn't suit the Bulls dynasty's goal of having an unblemished record of first round sweeps. They made sure of that starting with Game 1.
Rule 1) Moving back the 3 point line: How does this benefit jordan vs Shaq? Rule 2) Cannot use your forearm against offensive players.... This benefits quite a bit more shaq than jordan. To defend such a big player like shaq the forearm is key. If you defend a guy like jordan like this you will simply have no reach for the jumpshot. Rule 3) doesn't benefit anyone. just makes the game a little more fair. So people don't call timeout when going out of bounds. Rule 4) would be the only rule that might hurt shaq.
Moving back the 3 pt line spreads out the floor a little more, which allows more space. This would benefit Jordan more to get inside. The no forearm rule is for offensive players FACING the basket, meaning this would also benefit Jordan more. The rule regarding illegal defense prevents defenders from zoning at the wings, which would also free up Jordan. These rules were clearly meant to give an older Jordan more room to operate anywhere on the floor (except the refs abused them to cheat for him as seen in this video).
Did you even watch the video? The rules were made in 97 and helped keep his stats up that year despite him shooting worse than the previous year. He didn't even announce retirement until after the season was over.
Not even close, not even as a playoff foul. And I don't think you want to be talking about pushing fouls when it comes to Jordan. He pushes Cassell into a screen yet Cassell was the one given the foul. Jordan did a similar move to Craig Ehlo in the 92 conference finals.
I'll go through the 3 game series and find some foul calls that were pretty soft. I said it was a pushing foul. it clearly was! refs are inconsistent! that should be the title for this video.
It was certainly inconsistent. With a minute and a half remaining in the 4th quarter in Game 1 and the Nets up by one point, Gill comes behind Jordan to block his shot and gets all ball but gets called for another shooting foul. You could see Gill genuinely surprised at the call. Didn't include this in the video.
@@jaranarm all superstars get unfair treatment. Look at todays league bron and kd def get more fouls calls than they should. U barely touch bron and he’ll write a letter to the commissioner asking for the refs to help out more. I didn’t watch jordan play in real time but I’m sure it was the same way.

Weird how modern fans always mention zone but not the 3 second defensive violation (circa 2001), the handcheck and physicality ban in 04-05 that resulted in the largest increase in scoring from one season to the next since the merger, the no charge zone, the flagrant 2 and the massive spacing created by all the 3 point shooters on every team that EVERYONR benefits from, even the guys who can't shoot threes. It has NEVER been easier to attack the basket than it is right now in the NBA, and with MJ you're talking about one of history's greatest slashers.
