Whenever I watch these videos, I have to commend this guy for being so confident. Every time I hop on a set, I theoretically know how to play but I don't get to play very often so I get awkward and it looks and sounds unsure of myself but this guy just goes all in and doesn't care.
Great video. The 5 cowbell strikes around 1:25 seems a little to good, they're even, controlled and has a nice finishing touch to the solo. It has to be a dead giveaway, the guy is a legend obviously!
The "Triplets Guy" video prob stayed up because the presentation looked really good. Even a non musician can look at the drum solos and say "that looks bad" But Triplets Guy's video looks like an actual lesson to your average non musician *Edit* OhMyGosh it got better
My first "drum kit" was a box-style electronic kit with 7 pads and 2 pedals that looked like keyboard pedals. If you look up the Medeli DD308, it looked pretty similar to that, but it was somehow older and less good. I got this from a Goodwill for $50, and looking back I was probably overcharged. It didn't come with sticks, so I just took some plastic clothes hangars and cut them to the approximate size I felt was appropriate. I had not played drums prior to this, ever, nor had I ever taken lessons of any kind. I cannot remember the particulars of how I played on that very first day, but I can tell you that if I had been forced to create a video about playing a drum solo... It would have been at least as good as this one was. And that's not a compliment to my day 1 skills, since they were ass.
For anyone interested, I ended up getting gifted a pair of sticks and I used that kit for years. I used dumbbells to pin down the pedals and milk crate as a frame to put the kit on top of, and a folding chair was my drum throne. It was not very glamorous, but neither was my life at the time. The reason I started playing was to learn Dream Theater songs, and so I played along to their most difficult tracks, which is like learning how to drive by racing in the Daytona 500. I have since upgraded a few times, and my latest electronic kit is the Donner DED-200, which is compact and quiet enough to allow me to play in my apartment. I can indeed play most Dream Theater songs now, although my tastes have moved towards composing my own music. It will only ever be a hobby, but it sure is a fun one.
Ah Ryan Larson, aside from a killin drum set player, he’s also a great bass player, conga, and maraca player. I hope those videos haven’t left the internet for good.
You can tell he's most certainly an expert because of the spiral staircase leading up to what one would only assume to be his lair.....perhaps he might have used his free hand to do a little painting of said spiral staircase after it's completion and erection......and you most certainly have to admire him for the professionalism he displays here by using the charts he so aptly places on his snare to help him accurately complete his rhymic journey that he has graciously documented for all to enjoy.
Keeping in mind the circumstances under which she wrote & recorded them, I'd love to see you examine Helen Wiggins' drum parts on the Shaggs' "Philosophy of the World" album, or at least the cult classic track "My Pal Foot Foot."
Time is such a random concept. Remember the band supposedly follows the drummer, so who are we to say that this solo is so far out of time that it crossed the international date line.
Good morning Eric! I know the vlogs probably take a lot of work, but I think a lot of people would like to see how the commandants own is operating during covid. It doesn’t have to be a vlog even just talking about it maybe? I don’t know how interested you are in video suggestions 😅
I marched with a dude that went to school with that guy. Apparently he’s a really good jazz saxophonist or something like that. But was absolutely so narcissistic that he thought his saxophone jazz talents will just transfer right over to drums no problem. He really does think he’s a master percussionist and that his drum instruction vids are actually useful 😂 when these vids of his first came out I thought it was a parody joke of some kind. Nope. He’s dead serious.
I haven't heard of Expert Village sing H3H3 did a video on them back in the day. This is a great video brother. Keep doing what you are doing, your stuff is awesome!!!
It's so funny how when you put in "ExpertVilliage drums" in a google search, it comes to links where people have commented on the bad videos and of course, their posts all show that the videos have been deleted. Guess expertvillage decided to clean up all the bad stuff.
