This score was genius. It evoked the modal and ancient, but cleverly slipped in the cinematic wonders of the chromatic mediants, Wagnarian power scoring, and sublime melodic invention. Basil Poledouris won an Emmy for Lonesome Dove, and 4 BMI Achievement awards. He always served the film with dedication. He totally awakened my love of film music. The waltz in the opening of Free Willy is so sublime, it brings me to tears every time I hear it. If I had known he spent his last years on Vashon Island, I would have swam the Puget sound to shake his hand.
The robocop sountrack has some phenomenal work in it too.

Fantástico, sentir escalofríos en el cuerpo y a la vez llenarse de energía y viajar con la mente en el tiempo. Cuando se logra eso, se está frente a una obra maestra, sublime. Como amante del metal pesado, esto es la raíz, y simplemente es maravillosa.

Glad this ends with my favorite piece of music, The Orgy. It reminds me or Ravel's Bolero, but this is better and more memorable, as it had the right tempo and feel for the scene. Glad that I got to see it being performed by an orchestra. It always amazes me how they can all play together to make beautiful music.

Thanks for sharing. Brilliant and stunning performance. Bravissimo. It's really amazing how Poledouris was able to develope multiple themes in the same music and make them harmoniously work together in such deep. Miklós Rózsa is my favourite composer but not even Ben-Hur can beat Poledouris' Conan, my very favourite score. Thank you, Basil. We miss you.

Tears actually welled up on that last track..one of the best movie soundtracks ever made, and this orchestra is simply outstanding. This reminds me of the very first time I saw this film back in 82'...great memories and a wonderful sound. To Maestro Basil Pouledoris "In Pace Resquisicat".

I'm so glad i found this (Conan is a very under appreciated film and the score i sublime)
It's actually a pretty well acted film, well directed and edited too. Great, moving score, and it is true to itself, it "works", this version of Hyboria. if Arnold hadn't been seen as a slab of meat at the time, it would have been more well-renowned.
@@bbb462cid And the role was just written for him. His lack of acting skills was actually great boon for the film. It is my favorite film up to this day.

Una de las mejores bandas sonoras del cine, por no decir la mejor, ya que la musica era el diálogo de la película. Magistralmente llevado a cabo por la Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, ni más ni menos que en la villa de Úbeda (Jaén), pueblo precioso por cierto.

This movie really grabbed me when it came out. Arnold, Milius, Poledouris, the settings, etc. The story written by a man that never left his home of Texas. He created quite a world, and the movie followed through wonderfully.
Conan was so good because it is a labor of love. Made by fans, for fans. And then, there was Arnold. Such luck as that should never be not used.

Muchas gracias por compartirlo. Está genial. Pero diéz años antes también hubo un homenaje en el que el mismo Basil dirigia la orquesta y desgraciadamente dos semanas más tarde fallecía por culpa de un cáncer (si mal no recuerdo). Faltaron algunos temas como Orphans of Doom, cuando destruye el templo de los gilipollas de las serpientes.

Basil was the best modern composer of our time as far as I am concerned. Everything was unique, no two works sounded alike.
Los reptilianos siempre han estado entre nosotros, la evidencia de esta película es notable, la lucha contra estos seres que vemos o no, para algunos una creencia estúpida para otros una realidad metafórica o real. Conan es representable en el día a día la metáfora es real, y es por eso que su popularidad no debe decaer. La lucha contra uno mismo para mejorar el mañana debe ser siempre desde nuestros corazones.
The reptilians have always been among us, the evidence of this film is remarkable, the fight against these beings that we see or not, for some a stupid belief for others a metaphorical or real reality. Conan is representable on a day-to-day basis, the metaphor is real, and that is why his popularity should not decline. The fight against oneself to improve tomorrow must always be from our hearts.

The secret of steel has always carried with it a mystery. You must learn its riddle, Conan. You must learn its discipline. For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts... [points to sword] This you can trust.
The best lesson from a father to his son.
Conan's father believed that the riddle of steel was in the sword.
Thulsa Doom believed that the secret was in the flesh that wield it.
Conan, at the end, with his father's broken sword on one hand and Doom's head on the other, is the solution to the enigma. The secret of steel is the warrior's will, that subdue both flesh and sword, towards to victory, despite of any obstacle.
This will play forevermore...I'll see to that.
