@@thz6853 i mean they kinda have to be. The sounds from the real life video clips are not really that realistic since normal microphones can't pick up the bass sounds that comes from a 120mm for example. I mean you can feel your whole body vibrate if it's shot at like 20m away

Something to keep in mind is that the microphones/software gaijin uses to capture sound for their game is generally much higher quality than the (usually) amateur equipment/smartphones used to capture the audio samples people usually measure the in-game sounds against.
not only that, but the sounds in warthunder are from a cockpit/ close to vehicle perspective, not far away like in the irl videos, that influences alot the sound that you listen
The acoustics are also affected by the terrain, observer position, and atmosphere conditions
@@BudgiePanic I agree, though the effect is fairly imperceptible at the distances that occur in-game and in (some of) the compared videos. Terrain and weather conditions only become a major factor at (ballparking) 50+ meters, and the position of the camera in war thunder is never more than a handful of meters away from your own vehicle, if not on top of or inside it. And to my knowledge, war thunder doesn’t have a system to play sounds of enemy cannon fire at the distances acoustic changes would be perceptible at, though that would be incredibly cool should they add it.

In all honesty if sound discrepancy was the sole thing to worry about in war thunder then I would be pleased.
Now if only we could get the corrupt devs to stop false buffing two specific nations, and nerfing other nations even when there is publicly available documentation to prove that what they're doing is both wrong, and absurd

The biggest problem the game has is having idealized versions of tanks. Things like production t-34’s would crack at the seems during the war and spall from even minor hits

Its a buggy feature, some sounds use the speed of sound, some dont.
It is on, just because of the capture on the A-10 in spect cam it does not work

Sound in spectator seems to be attached to the vehicle you are spectating, so speed of sound does not work

okay the reason the guns sound lower is Gaijin purposely adding the lower frequencies. most sound recording equipment has a hard time picking up lower frequency noises that the human ear can, this is why our voices sound so uncanny in recordings.
The recording thing isn’t really the microphone, it’s that some extra low pitch vibrations go through your skull into your ears, but never get out into the air. I do imagine that the microphones have some difficulty picking up the highs and lows at such intense volumes, though. Microphone peaking and such.

War Thunder is really missing the little pop when you fire a missile or rocket. I notice that in-game and it makes it feel like you're shooting a big airgun

Some of WT's sound design sounds like they got the best they could. Like rockets in game sound often like the recording was taken from inside the cockpit.
you have to take account for ear fatigue if it was hyper realistic the sound effects would get old quick and you would either stop playing the game or play less often. it seems like they mostly took a hi pass and low pass filter to an acurate reproduction and filtered out some other frequencies to make it more plesant.
@@BassRacerx Maybe, maybe not. I enjoy DCS sounds and from the cockpit it has some of the blandest audio. In ground I see the need to make the gun sounds less realistic to keep interest, but in air, as long as the engine sound is nice, I could care less about guns. Long as its not the Brit 303's. Its grown on me, but I remember being very vocal about my displeasure when I first heard it. Also with war thunders grind state, I don't think anyone is giving up on vehicles because they don't sound good. Accept the A10 and the F16. There are plenty of videos showing their cannons and to me, it sounds like they made their own shitty version.
A lot of them seem to sound close to the real thing which is really nice to have in war thunder. I'd say the worst one is the A-10s GAU-8
Check back in now, it no longer sounds like a vacuum cleaner. I have been playing my a-10 nonstop just gunfighting with it

Id say the a10 sounds fine, the audio in spectator mode doesnt have any of that speed of sound stuff so you’re just hearing it as if you’re close to it, which the gau 8 in wt does sound like a gau 8 up close in real life

People also forget, sounds recorded by devices aren't 100% accurate to what you actually hear. Likely the ones in warthunder are just made to sound like it actually sounds like in real life, maybe a few changes to sound cooler as well

yes and no. The way the majority of cannon fire audio is made is through arranging a series of source sounds they have. They have a library of "punch", "body" "tail" and "mech" components they arrange and tweak to synthesize sounds. That being said though, there is a good number of real sounds they have in the files from a handful of vehicles. They have a public github repository for sound modders that includes all the weapon sounds in the game.
keep in mind that the IRL videos weren't taken with the best cameras and microphones, so IRL they might sound even more close to what we have in war thunder

Actual sounds may be completely different. It all depends on what microphone they were recorded with and with what settings. Most likely, live they are completely different.
a lot of the comparison vids with real life examples are pry taken from relatively cheap cameras or phones, the mics on those are made to record human voices more effectively than other sounds and they tend to have a noise gate to protect the microphones from damage(it's why you typically hear the sounds loudest at the beginning and then normalizes).

I think the Gau 19 or a similar gun was used in Avatar 2 The Way of Water in the 2 scenes where the RDA returns in these massive landing pods, and when Quaritch was being brought to Bridgehead City
FYI, they FINALLY gave the in-game GAU-8 it's depth of distance with a delay of the two brrts.
You do have to realize they sound much different irl though, average microphones can only do so much

Do you have speed of sound enabled in your settings? That can really help sound realism, it just nukes your competitive advantage.
The audio quality from some of these real life clips are mediocre and do not record all the frequencies at equal volume. There is also the problem of audio peaking resulting in a loss of audio data due to bad microphones. We should not expect Gaijin to make sounds close to those from recordings such as these.
The sound in game are similar to RL enough.
The sounds in war thunder are like hearing the sounds in person instead through a video
to put it in perspective, obviously crewmates would be wearing hearing protection while a camera isn’t. It’s be cool if there was an immersive feature where you could choose to hear raw sounds though
The next time place the camera on the ground to hear both A-10 sounds, one is form the bullets crashing, the other one is from the cannon

there are many things about sound that can't be replicated in a recording or a game compared to hearing it live. Have you ever heard the engine of an F-16 on full afterburner up close? Its not just loud in your ears, it vibrates your entire body and the auditory effects of that vibration can't be replicated in a game or any recording of it. Its like being at a live metal festival where the sound waves are short of the level where you get hearing loss and listening it at home at a volume that doesn't get the neighbors knocking on your door.
of course it also depends on what microphone was used to record the real audio
sounds fine, also remember for a game they tend to livin it up a bit to give back more feeling to it. Any recorded sound doesn't sound like it does in person. It, how should I explain... the sound loses weight or body to it so they try and add it back.

hearing through a microphone and couple of speakers is different than hearing it on irl recording it and adjust the sound to whatever you hear and put it on game
The difference is like the difference between a bands live recording and then listening to their a studio recording.

Battlefield 3 sounds are GOATED. BF3 sounds just like the originals in this video. It's been awhile since I played but BF3 knocked its sound design out of the park.
I've been at the poinsett range at Shaw AFB several times during the early '90s. The GAU-8 sounds far more like a diesel engine at high RPM than a gun. But it is a beautiful sound, nonetheless.
Epic Thunder mod makes it much better
yea, after playing since 2016 I only a few days ago got a sound mod (Epic Thunder from a friend) and it's so awesome
My reason for finally getting it you ask? They fucked over the sound of the 35mm KDA's so fucking much... (the gun's on the Gepard/Type 87 SPAAG/Marksman)
Even a firework sounds so much different in a video I don’t think you’d be able to capture the glory of a 120 mm cannon being fired look at how some of the farthest people flinch when it shoots

This is due to the fact that developers always record audio in closed studios, which does not simulate environmental shots as well

In fact, the first one is not M163. It is a K263, K200 mounted M61. M163 means M113 mounted M61.

while maybe a neat experiment, it's difficult to compare a game sound to "real sounds" using a method like this. This is not how these things sound. This is how they sound after being recorded and played back on youtube. Seems like the game devs are doing a good job.
