Cutting Board amzn.to/36BwNSr
Slate plate amzn.to/2PDehDg
That crab wandering onto the platter was like, "Ayo, what is this divine feast I just came across?!" When you were placing the seaweed on the slate, I was thinking laying some of the sashimi flat would be hard and may not look nice on such a rustic looking style. It was a great call going for the triple rose! Another great video Taku!
Seriously inspiring. One of the most beautiful plates of sashimi I've ever seen and you just improved after a catch and forage! Love how precise and efficient you are wirh everything, even shaking seasonings on seaweed. Really makes me think about being more conscious and attuned when cooking
I like how you dont take us for granted and give us what we want I appreciate you sir 🙏🏾🔥
Taku your one of the dopest people alive , I always get inspired by chefs been watching you since almost the beginning keep up with the great lifestyle
Taku this was one of your eelest episodes to date! That presentation was incredible bro!!! Thumbs Up 👍
These are the types of episodes that hooked me on the show. I love all your content but this ? *chefs kiss*
Foraging videos are the reason why I fell to like this channel, and subscribed. Always get excited to watch them. I live in Pennsylvania so I have always dreamed of going foraging in the pacific coast. I lived in Los Angeles when I was a kid and went fishing all the time in Huntington Beach but never up the coast in NorCal but maybe one day !
Taku been watching you since before 40k subs and love seeing you go back to some poke pole fishing! IDK why but I feel like poke poling is my favorite type of fishing!
Always look forward for these coastal foraging videos! Also, Fort point beers are refreshing! Love ‘em.
The good thing about the Misen knife is the AUS10 steel enables the blade to be ground very thin, while also being able to effectively have 15 edge grinds. This is a big consideration for Japanese knives- the thinner the better. This AUS10 is better than the typical 440C that we see on high quality German and French cutlery. 8” is a perfect size to use a pizza peel for a cutting board if you buy a wooden one.
Taku Tuesday is the best!! All of your videos are amazing. From Alaska to poke poling in California you always make the most amazing catch and cooks around. Love it as always. Always great to watch your vids and wind down after work. 🤙
The part with the live crab on the dinner board was fucking genius. Plz dont stop being you Taku
You definetly convinced me after you said, "that's all MEAT!!"
Bought the Misen fry pan, now my fav pan, and just ordered the k-nife.
Cheers to you and Clammy Gonzales.
Yeeeah! We love the coastal foraging! Thanks for coming back to it!
Glad your back love the coastal stuff
Dude!! I poke poled my first pricklebacks ever this last low tide a few days ago!
Pulled 4 eels out of the same hole.
I shucked them like catfish and smoked them. They were are so good. I love this channel! Thanks for the inspiration. ❤️
Poke poled my first monkeyface last weekend too! Made a nice gumbo
@@chockchoola nice dude, they are super fun to catch!
@@chockchoola gumbo is sounds good, clever.
Hey what color was your prickleback?
I'm up way north California, and the ones I'm catching are light green with oarnge spots.
Thank you for all the hard work that goes on to making this video. I really have miss you doing these kind of videos in our back yard
Miss you guys doing your coastal foraging. Love this! ❤️
Taku, appreciate the effort to go back to your roots! (These kinda of videos are my favorite) also appreciate that fall and the things you are willing to do for us ❤️ Respect.
Taku, only foraging and using just what he needs and creating masterpieces of meals. We enjoying his creations, wishing we could taste and inspired by all his instruction. Tuesdays are awesome ! 🥰🤩👍
Beautiful rose-like eel sashimi with seaweed base featuring little crab friend (17:39). He was already eyeing your catch at 14:45 :D
My man knows how to "sip" on that beer! lol My favorite part of the videos is seeing you pause and take time enjoying your beverage.
Lovely as always! I love your little crab guest for the close up on your food.
Thanks for keeping the drone shots of the spot on the DL, and the spot safe from burning. One of my favs
Well done Taku! I found myself laughing with you when you slipped, and actually said "Get in the bucket" out loud right before you did. Thanks for the vid.
Also, could you do a bigger segment just on seaweeds? Educate us more about them specifically?
Putting the crab on it was so unique 😂
My favorite out door chef. Foraging is how you beat inflation nowadays. Living off the land is a +
hes getting paid to eat off the land. a++
Taku, could you make a video or short on how to make a mango sauce for sushi please? I had a roll recently with some mango sauce and it was great!
Bangers after banger videos!!! 🔥 inspirational
I got a couple of those Misen pans but I want knives. They are kind of out of stock at the moment. The only ones they have are the red handle. Love my carbon pans though. Awesome cookware.
Monkeyface eel is one of my favorites. Cleanest tasting fish I've ever had.
My friend, you killed it with the presentation.
Yes this is magical! Love the travel content but the local foraging is so inspiring! Bay area nativve here!
I bought a Misen Chef’s knife using the link you had before. I do like the knife and use it a lot.
This guy made raw fish look like a flower. and a fish he just caught. Respect.
Been a subscriber for 3 years and always look forward to your videos bro!
Thank you from the Caribbean island of st.maarten if your ever planning a trip down here let’s meet up 🙏🏽 By the way how does that meat taste ?
🌴 it doesn’t matter if your fishing or catching eels there is something about watching a skillful sushi chef take his bounty for the day collecting what’s available and turning into an elegant plate , not only knowing how to make sushi or sashimi, but the art of plating is what makes things so great as we eat with our eyes first ! Great vid as always, ( next vid - bento box foraging 👍🏼)
That plating arrangement was on another level today!!!!
Yum, looks so delicious. Great work and balance on the plating. Wish I lived close to you to try bumping into you and Jocelyn 🤣
I would love to see you do more than fish. Have thought about gun/bow hunting and trapping? Would love to see what you'd cook with wild game.
💛...gotta love the roses among the 'weeds'...
Your catch and cooks never get old! Looked so delicious! What was that on the rocks behind you at 14:45? Looked almost like a crawdad, though I know it wasn't.
Looked like a shore crab, Pachygrapsus crassipes.
Would love to see a collab with someone featured who can make the skin from your fish tanned into leather . Would jive well with the sustainability themes in some of your vids.
Reminder of why I subscribed and became a big fan!
When you fillet fish with your japanese knife it looks much smoother and easier....
Do you have a code for those?
Yes I miss the old stuff please do more. Maybe in different parts of the world.
Outdoor Chef Life: Where fine dining meets "garnish" walking across your plate!
Yes Taku Tuesday is here!
Man!! This channel needs to cross 600 k soon.
the misen knife is awesome. super sharp and make fileting a lot easier
Damn i was literally watching this with nostalgia remembering him harvesting seaweed and hoping that he would, and what do you know.
the poke polling and your foraging vids are very fun.
Let's get that 1 million subs Taku!
I want to see Taku on a cooking competition show. I think he'd absolutely crush it.
Agreed!!! That would be awesome
That wouldn’t be fair for the competition
@@DeathByGelato hahahaha. Right, but it would still be awesome to see
it would never happen that UA-cam money to good.
Last few poke pole trip I butterfly the squid and cut in to ribbon like pieces, mush easier to get wrapped around hook better. Once again Sir wonderful video-
Nice, do u not have to boil the seaweed ever for bacteria ? And the eel dosen't have to be frozen/flash to kill bacteria ?
Also Where's some good spots to poke poll etc at ? 😊 U in mendo ? Thank u for the info
Hey, I DO miss the old stuff. Rock fishing time!
A meal so raw the crab is still moving :^)
Was their ever a thank you video for his trip to the Bahamas? I am surprised their was no final recap and thank you.
amazing presentation taku!
sick throwback style video. love it.
Do a video on you and Jocelyn’s favorite types of beer.
Thanks for the video. There was a little tiny crab 🦀 or something crawling in the Back ground when you were filleting the ell lol
👏awesome, the first video of yours I saw was with the poke pole with chef Hiroyuki. I wanna try this out so bad!
Try coastal foraging in Scotland the laws are very respectful for camping and fishing and all things nature.
Great…now I’m hungry!! And I love my Misen chef knife. Thin and holds an edge.
14:40 smol crab runnin
That was a really fun video. Thanks, Taku!
Bro, a work of art! Just beautiful
Can you do a poke poling/foraging series where you travel to other coastal parts of the states. Be cool to see what other coastal areas have to offered compared to the bay area
bro i've been trying to back off on my comments but whatever you do is always good. I do want you to use all the force you have to push bringing back the otters. they eat like 30 urchins a day, and when I was a kid we used to just stab as many as we could... probably already told you that and that was in like 94. this has been an issue for longer than that. the russkies came over in like the 1500s or something and whacked all our otters for fur hats. similar to seals. we don't have seals they're all fur coats, we have sea lions, the german shepherd of the sea, but we have no seals. good thing I know exactly how to talk to them. I can't spell it but it's basically arf arf arf. i don't know when you come through santa barbara, but in the next few weeks I have stone fruits (mostly apricots and next are nectaplums then next nectarines. the blood oranges and pink lemonade lemons are pretty much always available, and the apples come in in about 2 months, lemme know. I gots small kayaks, like surf style, oh and I got some tatsoi and other seeds for joc if you're in the area drop by. there's actually a nurserey like right next door to me and right off the freeway too for seeds and they're amazing. I'm also about 6 minutes to the beach/pier. It's right next to a hospital too, it is basically a really sweet spot. there's even a park literally like 3 doors down. I think I told you before, you're free to park your van here any time. just warn me so I can clean my bathroom for joc. no worries on the crabs. I have chicken and other things in the freezer and a net. bring more if you want and keep it up with the posting on the seasons and rules etc. people need to know this. love you bruddah, sea you next week
Dude look up some recipes for "chojang". Goes really well with raw seaweed and raw fish and other seafoods.
Enjoy watching your video as always! Nice fishing
Should try it smoked... Here in New Zealand we love smoked eel.
Not sure if I missed it in this video but what size hook and type of hook do you use?
“OH MY GOD ITS BIG. oh my GOD ITS HUGE” hahaha 24 inches! gotta be a human record
Our low tide at Des Moines, WA last week was -4.34!
I loved the cameo of the little crab 😁
Taku, you are gonna lose your shit on the coast of Chile, just make sure to hit me up whenever you're ready to head down there. Loved every minute of this video 🥰✊🏽
Wow that’s definitely different! Great presentation and yea I don’t know if I have the stomach to try that. Those eels are a bit scary and slimy 😂
The music while you showed off your dish was reminiscent or the Japanese ironchef when they would show the dishes s
Cheers to you buddy. The first sip is always the best.
It’s up to you, but there’s a reason that old timers tie a short length of 60-80# mono to the hook, with a loop so the hook can move sround. You get better control of the blenny that way and the bites are more positive; l, better hookups. It’s up to you.
So epic, can't wait for more!
Thanks for giving us an OG style video 👍🏽
Another dope video put out by the legend 💯💯
Would you recommend that knife for sashimi fish or a differ knife?? Please help
That plating game is cray
Classic poke poling, great video!
Taku,
Could that be smoked and used like traditional eel and would
it have a similar flavor?
Cheers,
Rik Spector
I’ve caught and tried prickleback a few times and to me it doesn’t taste nearly as good as rockfish. The chewy texture is one reason but the other is it always tasted like it was peed on. No matter how quickly I bonked and bled or how carefully I prepared it. Anyone else have the same issue?
Catching that eel was brilliant...took a bit of patience but well done Taku!
I love the radish pods they are so delish
Throughout the chaos of the last two years, your channel has been such a beacon of light! Thank you for the amazing content and for your positive outlook!
Would something like Korkers RockTrax cleated overshoes help prevent falls like that one around 2:20?
Taku for the next Iron Chef competition! 🙌🏽
Damn, right b4 you slipped, I said to myself hope he doesn't slip and wham🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽 glad you were ok
That baby crab on the plate was awesome
Does anyone know where this is??? I'd love to explore on my own, but I'm time limited these days. Taku?
Taku is like level 99999 on cooking forage fishing hunting food .. only thing I haven’t
Seen him do is bake yes ! Exactly bake sweets do some and please shout out my name subscriber when you were still working lol
