Queen is probably the best monarch engine in the game but more of just a really good card than standalone best Q, I like it because generally monarchy helps speed up games and encourage combat
Some cards for you to consider where you said, there aren't a lot: For J: Jetmirs Garden, Jin-Gitaxias(Progress Tyrant), Jhoira, Weatherlight Captaion, and of course, the Crim special: Jwari Disruption For V: Vandalblast, Viscera Seer, Valakut Awakening, Veil of Summer, Victimize, Volcanic Island, Vorinclex For X: I would only add Xenk from the DND Movie For Y: Yawgmoth''s WIll, Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow For Z: Zopandrel, Hunger Dominus, Zur the Enchanter
I'm probably too late, but I'd love to see a budget A to Z, everything under $1. Most of the cards on here are $10+ and I think it would be fun. Thanks for all your content!
Surprised to not see a couple of honorable mentions at least : J - Jetmir's Garden or Jin Gitaxias P - Pir's Whim or Parallel Lives Q - Questing Beast T - Teferi's Protection or Toxic Deluge V - Vandalblast Z - Zaxara or Zealous Conscripts Fun to see the thoughts though, I bet the research was annoying for this one 😂
I loved this so much lol. And even though I should've seen the Moxfield ad coming... I did not. I also love when Beezy nitpicks himself. He even did it about a wheel of fortune reference. He just can't help himself!
Honestly the more lands like command tower the better. I’m all for it. How boring is it to break the bank on lands every time you want to build a commander with 3 or more colors
True! Obv the NitPicking Nerds think the oposite. Why? The more expensive cards being sold, the more money they make. The guy in the video tends to downtalk 0.50 cent cards vs 45$ cards. Obv Diabolic tutor is amazing if that is the black tutor to hand you can afford.
No, it's terrible take. Being forced to play around the mana you can generate is the thing thats supposed to keep multicolored decks in check. So It's a good thing that the most powerful/expensive lands aren't printed everywhere because not only it would make multicolor decks even stronger, but also it would overall drastically increase average power-level of games.
@@DONBA32 In almost every case you will be better just by casting some basic draw spell than playing diabolic tutor. There is no need to play it unless you play combo deck where you NEED some specific pieces to win or you are in situation where grabbing specific card is the only thing that can save your ass... But its still much, much worse than Demonic Tutor.
Jace, Wielder of Mysteries would be in a LOT of decks if Lab Man and Thassa's Oracle didn't exist (and it's still in some). The fact that Thoracle is ridiculously broken doesn't mean that Jace WoM is a bad card.
I run Humility in my Legend of Arena Emblem Tribal deck and let me tell you if you see that card I'm about to win. There are few creatures in the deck and the part that matters most about them is that they're wizards so it is basically an asymmetrical effect.
I would have said Storm the Vault for the S runner up. With the myriad of ways you can make treasure, food, clue, and blood tokens, it’s really not hard to have 5 artifacts. Tolarian Academy with the added ability to tap for any color if your opponents end up getting rid of all of your artifacts is pretty bonkers.
True, but budget commander is better because it's much more varied. You don't have access to the top of the pyramid, so you're always looking at a wider base with more specific nuance that will suit your synergies.
Definitely not the best but a good card for J I would say is jester's cap. Being able to search one of your opponent's libraries and exile three of their win cons, combo pieces or just best cards is really good value.
Growing Rites of Itlimoc is pretty much strictly better than Cradle at least in a vacuum. For one, the land side can tap for mana even if you don't have any creatures on the field.
Growing Rites carries a significant condition to meet for use, though. Cradle on T2 with a mana dork can get you considerably ahead on board.... It's not a bad card, by any means, but Cradle is better under most board states.
@@aldotrioksidi some of us cracked ours from packs, my dude... Cash price is only a consideration for those who are late to the party. That said, if the copies available were comparable, Growing Rites wouldn't even be close in price... It would probably peak at a crisp $100-$150, and just kinda hover there. Like I said, not bad, and actually quite good, but definitely not as good as any of the lands in Cradle's cycle.
@@andrewamann2821 Yes? The card's worth doesn't change whether you pulled it back in the day, bought one these days or found one from a crack in the asphalt. Still, the point was that the backside of Itlimoc is strictly better than Cradle and it's well worth using. It you can have two cradles, that's all the better, but it's still a decent alterative. It's also a card that can be used in budget builds to great effect, which you can't do with cradle.
@@aldotrioksidi I find it kind of ironic that you're so hung up on the cash value, when proxies are approximately Free.99, when my whole point is that the mechanical cost for entry, flipping the card, with Growing Rites is what makes it worse than Gaea's Cradle. There are only a handful of possible board states where Cradle is.a blank, and most of those are going to preclude transforming your Growing Rites to begin with, because it's dependent on maintaining a board until the end of your turn. The same can be said for Storm the Vault, when compared against Tolarian Academy... It has the advantage of not being a blank card when it's primary use case isn't met, sure, but if you're building to play with it, or slotting it in because you can capture a decent amount of value from it, those edge cases are negligible, and playing the card still carries an opportunity cost far greater than the one carried by potentially giving up a land drop. The flip side may be "strictly better," but that's only if you ignore the fact that you can't play the flipped side of the card from functionally anywhere, without some really obscure setup ahead of time. Also, mathematically speaking, it's not likely to hit parity with Cradle for mana production, even with the first mana ability, although it might get close, but you're still going to be fighting with a timer to do it, because that flip clause is still present... Cradle recurs for instant value off of a Crucible of Worlds effect... Getting Growing Rights back from the yard is a lot more involved, and still sets you back a turn to flip it, and there's really no getting around that.
J's honestly aren't that bad. There's all the Jaces (Even though Wielder of Mysteries and Vryn's Prodigy are the only two good ones), Jetmir, Jaheira, Jhoira, all the Jin-Gitaxias's, and prolly a few others that I can't think of
The One Ring? Nope. The Great Henge is just straight up better. TOR is great at giving insane card advantage, but it has a negative effect of life loss to balance that. Unless you are abusing it or running it in some sort of life gain build, it can really tax you heavily for the cards you draw. TGH also draws you cards, but also ramps your mana, gains you life, AND buffs your cast creatures. All of that with NO negative effect. Simply better.
The one ring goes in any deck...and it's 4 mana and gives you protection and you can bounce it. Great hedge is great, but you're cracked if you think one ring isn't better in more decks.
Questing Beast and Queen Marchesa seem like pretty deec Qs...

For Z: Zopandrel, Hunger Dominus, Zur the Enchanter
Missed Yawgmoth's Will as the best Y card. Its the original underworld breach and basically ends every game its played.
And if not the best card then it would have won as runner up against any Yavimaya land
G for Grave Titan!
To nitpick a bit, I’m pretty sure Command Tower does not make mana in colorless decks, so it doesn’t quite go in every deck with no downside?
You are correct
Scrolled to find this in the comments as soon as he said that it goes on every deck
Consider us nitpicked
Xyris, the Writhing Storm is a crazy card that does so much even in the 99 - would definitely be up there for me in the X category!
I use it in my deck always pulls the win if not answered🤣
Akroma's Will for A is my pick
It's a criminally underrated card.
a good card but the "Arcane Signet" goes into all multi color decks
@@wadewilson5712More versatile doesn't mean stronger though, but yes, Arcane Signet goes in pretty much every deck as colorless ramp.

Moxfield ad at 29:10 as a stand in for the letter M.

For J I got Jodah, the unifier. Kind of specific but really powerfull in it's deck
For A, no mention of An Offer You Can't Refuse? Maybe it's not #1, but I do think it's good enough to mention as one of the best.

Questing Beast!

My other good J card suggestion is Jegantha.
It would be fun to do this for each card type methinks. :)
How much do full time youtubers make? Jake and Joel are full-time, too must be like $10k+ usd a month...
J is for Joraga Warcaller: what is better than a lot of elves? A lot of BIG elves
Do we get a tier list of best first letters?
Damn M is gonna be a tough one: remora? Mana drain? Mana crypt? Mental misstep?
Would love for y’all to do this again excluding mana producers
KCI combo is so great i use it in Necrons and now its in Science! With Liberty Prime at the helm as my commander.
Note: command tower, like Arcane Signet, is a blank card in colorless decks.
What about cards that start without a letter. Numbers or symbols?
Is that Grave Titan in the Reanimate art? Fitting since Grave Titan is the obvious best target for Reanimate.
Command Tower does NOT go in colorless decks (think Arcane Signet).
21:16 Thinking about J: Jetmir’s Garden? Jeska’s Will? Jhiora?
Humility + dovescape + ethereal absolution = death by 2/2’s
The Busy World of Richard Scary slapped.
Q for questing beast gets around one ring and tefaris protection
Jeska's will fpr sure and jeweled lotus I bet :)
What did Mia mouth for the letter D? BZ was sitting right next to her and couldn’t catch it :(
