solid video. Given the variety of people's budgets etc. it might be good in the future to provide some sort of metric e.g. "worth $8 price=I'd only buy this if I had a dedicated deck for it....$15+ this is generically good is absolutely worth your first copy probably a second copy worth $25+=this card is so powerful that it will help you win games and absolutely worth it."

Krenko is amazing.
Krenko is a very boring deck to play and play against. People who play it have no imagination because if someone wants to play goblins they just grab the strongest goblin commander krenko and it’s very boring.

Chromatic Lantern is simply a QOL card. Not needing to think how you crank your lands is simply convenient. That’s why it goes into so many commander decks 😂

@@Barturito It’s just one mana rock in the 99 and I am rarely not happy to pull it. Obviously it doesn’t belong into decks that can ramp in other ways, but in others it’s a usually pleasant inclusion and that’s what counts IMO.

As a card, I will defend Chromatic Lantern. However, I can't justify the $4 price tag for it. If was $1 or less, then it's worth it.

I feel palantir of orthanc is better than one ring in certain decks.
Not only dp you get a card draw, but you scry, you can proliferate the counters, it damages the opponents, and you can recur pieces that get milled.
Love Palantir. Swapped One Ring into my Sauron, the Dark Lord deck from my Lotho deck and slid Palantir into Lotho. Both decks got much better.
@FaithlessLooting I slid one in my mana heavy hidetsugu exile deck, and it is hilarious when they take the damage of 3 titans!
Outside of that, there are so many ways to bring things back in almost all colors.
Palantir is a blast...I've run it in my Eldrazi deck since it was printed and now I run it in Kona. People get scared of it and just hand you cards😄

I once played against a guy who was using Glacial Chasm and he was doing Cumulative Upkeep wrong and no one in our pod noticed because he had so many upkeep triggers. He must've had it on the field for 6 turns and only paid 12 life for it. I will never make that mistake again. That game ended up being like 3 hours
I love chromatic lantern in my decks that run 3 or more colors. I dont rely on it, but it makes my life easier and im never mad to pull it
I guess part of it is cuz my playgroup keeps it cool and casual
Beseech the mirror is like $13 on TCGplayer tho. Like Moxfield is cool, for sure, but not "half the cost" cool.
Yeah, Moxfield by default goes by Card Kingdom, which is notorious for raising the price of singles, which is good for selling cards to them, but as a price guide, not so much.
Thinking for a second that The One Ring would be banned in EDH is foolishness with WOTC at the helm. Even before it would be a stretch
Archfiend of Despair is incredibly powerful in certain decks like Rakdos Valgavoth. Its Wound Reflection on a body that you can do crazy shenanigans like Saw in half (double Wound reflection) and insta win with Heartless Hidetsugu ( everyone lose half their life, now each opponent loses that same amount again) or do massive damage with your beefed up Valgavoth and Kediss Emberclaw familiar (damage one opponent, now all take that damage and Archfiend makes them take it again) or even wheel effects and triple damage enchantments in play (draw 7, take 3 damage per card, 21 damage now take another 21) The card says each end step, including your own, so you don't have to wait for archfiend to go all around and get back to you to get value, all these examples I gave are all as soon as you cast him on your turn!!!
Tibalt's trickery and Reprieve are decent but Lapse of Certainty has been my favorite non blue counterspell so far, putting the card back on top of library has so often felt like straight up countering without downside. Sure they will get it back next turn but if you countered some kind of game ending spell, the table has the whole turn cycle to murder them.
The One Ring really helps my handful of decks that don’t have car draw and need to compete with all the power creep. I absolutely love it and I had better not bandit

I pulled the one ring. The only de k I run it in is queza, augur of agonies. I don't really run it in anything else. Casually don't buy the one ring unless you just want it.
Here is a fun drinking game: find 1+ hour long mtg videos, and take a drink every time you hear the word card. You will be drunk in 10 minutes.

I think I find myself agreeing with a lot of your choices, except the swords. Especially feast and famine.
2+ power and toughness buff
Protection from two colors (if f&f it’s black and green, the removal color and the creature color) which keeps your creature really hard to block, hard to remove, has more toughness and hits harder, on top of it being constant card advantage by way of making others discard theirs, and on top of that you untap all your lands. And that’s just f&f.
So much value on one card, I can’t ever see it not hitting the mark for me personally as long as I have one
Archfiend of despair... you don't reanimator it at the game start, always cast your bad stuff first and then when opponent have less cards go for it. I killed many (reanimated) Valgavoth, Terror Eater just by casting Sheoldred's Edict or sacrifice cards
I realy like descent into avernus but its close to unplayable if a blue player is in the pod since you give thwm mana at the start of your turn 😅.
Chromatic lantern is just another 3 mana ramp spell. It makes it so you don’t have to think about things. It’s the epitome of casual. It’s also great for decks that steal from opponents, Edward kenway comes to mind, and casting opponents spells. It’s solid in four and five color decks too.
Hearing Mia say that Glacial Chasm is $30 good is funny considering I just purchased the gorgeous Modern Frame copy from the From the Vault: Realms for my Lumra lands deck as a “fog” effect I can pull out of the Graveyard. I also own an original copy in my Premodern frame only Jolrael, Voice of Zhalfir deck
Descent into Avernus is boss. You get the mana first, and building in artifact hate means you can take away the benefit from opponents after the first couple go arounds by using some of your treasures to wipe all of theirs.
The One Ring is the most played card in modern. Even more than any lands...
Descent into avernus is worth it for the fun but maybe not the power. I love its effect on speeding up the game and enabling the big plays only possible in commander.

I have Hermit Druid in my Sidisi deck with 12 basics. Still worth it. Hit your land drops, stock you graveyard, make zombies. Win/win/win!
I & most players I know would argue with you about building a mana base being 'not that 'hard'. I'd argue it's the hardest part for multi colored decks. Not saying chromatic lantern is the greatest but it does help & only an newbie would rely on that being the only piece of mana fixing.
The ONLY reason I own a 1 ring is I got sooo lucky that a game stop had 1 bundle left that had it as a promo and was selling it at the originalish of like 55 bucks instead of the 120 bucks.
Not only do I hope they don’t ban TOR, I hope they unban every other cards. Stop trying to take fun away.
I still run Archfiend of Despair in my multiple combat Kaalia, drop this on the 2nd or 3rd combat, it's so good. I've taken out two opponents at the same time a couple times by dropping him on my last Kaalia trigger for the turn.
We know you guys don't like Chromatic Lantern, but how about Commander's Sphere? Similar but really different cards. I think that the Sphere still holds up since you can always sac it for a draw in the mid game. What do you guys think?

While I agree chromatic lantern isn't good enough on its own, I think nowadays there are enough similar effects that if you're running a particularly greedy five color it might be your 3rd or 4th mana fixer?

I spent 50 dollars on a single One Ring and its in my Giada deck because mono white angels struggles with card draw since white likes to draw cards with cheap low to the ground creatures. If i need more i can just proxy it now
Disclaimer on those dragon shield art sleeves, they are a pretty tough shuffle. I loved the art and got some and I'm about to change them out.
The One Ring does not need to be banned. We need to be leaning into Rule Zero and understanding 'maintaining table' and 'keeping things casual' mean different things to different players. Quit banning fun cards or suggesting they be banned. If 'that opponent' keeps winning and won't swap decks, swap tables. Banning cards is rarely a good idea in such a sandbox idea format like EDH. Casual was meant to be casual rules and enforcement with Rule Zero, not low power.

If you want to play at a lower power level, fine, but do not ask me to leave the pod or ban strong cards in my deck if yours can’t compete with the argument of this being a “casual” format. “Casual” does not mean weak!
It’s still a hefty 4 drop to play. Super good, but at what cost? I love and enjoy it but not in every deck at all.
Ok but if most people rule 0 it out shouldn't it probably just be banned to make stuff easier then dedicated playgroups can rule 0 it in.
@donb7519 I've never seen it rule zeroed out. Ever. I guess I play with level headed folks and shops. Rule zero isn't each players personal ban list. It's just agreeing to play decks.
@donb7519 Rule 0ing in a card is basically impossible unless you're in a regular playgroup. Pick-up games at your LGS? Not going to happen.
The one ring is good in every deck but I purposely only used it in my artifact deck. At least it makes some sense ...
removing Age counters from Glacial Chasm with a Scholar of New Horizons turns it from a land that doesn't make mana to one that gets you another land every turn and stays life neutral in Oloro

I'm playing hermid druid in my Mycotyrant deck (i have 8 basics), that's my favorite card of the deck. Very powerful
I sincerely doubt they will ban The One Ring anytime soon, Post Malone dropped like 2 million on it. It was one of the biggest draws that the game has ever had. I think the only reason that they haven't banned it in modern is the optics, having it banned in nearly every format after the publicity of Post Malone buying the card would look horrible for Wizards and they now control every ban list.

Playing Hermit Druid in my Kethis deck that has 4 basic lands in it is so so good.
Necro around $10 is a steal, assuming you havent taken damage when cast that comes to around a quarter a card when drawn to your hearts desire 😅
Chromatic Lantern is a strange case. Every analysis like this correctly pegs it as a poor option for the reasons it seems so popular, that it's not a good way to fix mana and compensate for weak manabases. But in trying to get that message across it's become underrated - or probably the better way to say it is that both sides of the argument are focusing on a misevaluation. I do run Chromatic Lantern in some decks as the last mana rock in, but the purpose is to help produce either exactly WUBRG or filter a lot of mana into one color in 4 or 5 color decks. Especially ones where the commander is one color to cast, but has 5 color identity due to activated abilities. It's a bad card to count on for early game fixing, but it's a decent card if you're using it mid game to help ensure you can activate your commander and especially if helps increase the number of activations, while being an okay early game rock.
I ran it in slivers. The whole deck was geared to produce wubrg asap, and it was a contingency for early game, or specific fixing later on.
I have to say I agree with Beezy's Clever Concealment take and I will have to bite the bullet for at least one more copy. My LGS appreciates you haha.

You forget the #2 reason why the one ring isn't in *every* deck outside of the price: Players are SPLIT about Universes Beyond.
The lord of the rings set has the most 10/10s and 0/10s out of any magic set ever made as far as reviews go. A lot of people don't want to play it, because they hate Universes Beyond.
I verry much doubt the classic fantasy lord of the rings enrages more people than say dr who 😅, especially considering its one if the few universe beyond products that fits with mtg thematically.
I really have to wonder what powerlevel games are being played at that a 5 drop like Avacyn isn't ok.

I love descent into avernus it is one of my favourite cards of all time even though it often leads to my death. It’s insane in my neheb the eternal deck. It really speeds up the game in my Obeka splitter of seconds deck.

The dovehawk definitely has the issue where it's too expensive (real world money wise) for the power level that it's designed for, if I'm gonna buy a 25 dollar upgrade for my token deck, the hawk is WAY down tbe list of options

Have to say I find Glacial Casm and the likes pretty unethical (too strong word though 😂) in casual commander. Nobody will play land removal as silent agreement on sub strong levels so imo it’s pretty crappy to abuse that.

Depending on the build i could see it being decent.
If you go for example athreos (3mana) for a mid power deck then sure, if you instead go for a high power variant like shizou then its probably not great. Either way i hope you pack enough carddraw (not jyst the ecpensive ones)since getting 6 1 drops on the board on time is harder than you may expect.

I hear you struggle w that very fact as you say things like “well if someone handed you a thousand dollars..” you can’t determine what is worth buying without establishing a budget unless you are giving financial advice which I think, genuinely, is not what you are trying to do.
Maybe just tell us “if I were building a deck on x dollar budget”
Or just establish what you spent for most of your decks and then we can go from there.

Glacial chasm in "oloro, ageless ascetic......
One Ring was included in a Bundle Box including 8 packs. Mine I got it for $45 a box. Did not buy any Collector and Draft boxes. So don't complain why it's $80. If your not in front then you must be last. Wait for a year of 2, for a reprint. Not guaranteed that prices will go down. I uses the Sword FF, when I don't have green or somewhat storm deck. All the other notable cards prices are questionable. You have to question, what does it do if it's on play or not. There are some cards that you need 2 or 3 for an effect of one card and is 90% cheaper. But the hustle, to get both into play. Just like meld cards. Until now I never had a chance to meld 2 Angel cards. Card prices is a scam. We love to play MTG that others have it getting dust. We pay the price.

The only thing I will say is yes, people can complain about the price of a card when it’s an extremely pushed card that is made for the company to make money, and I own a one ring. Yes card prices are a scam but that’s on wizards not the people and the people can complain about the lack of reprints and the obvious pushing of the power levels of cards just to make money

Modern is in a healthy place right now and I believe there will be no bans. Most of us don’t think The One Ring is that bad and we know how to play around it. Plus there are a lot decks now with zero Rings winning RCQ’s.
